Amazing!!! My son and I were in town for a hockey tournament at the Artic Edge. We wanted something quick but not the usual stuff. I had the Italian on a hard roll and my son had a cheese steak. They were both great.

I really wasn't impressed. I had driven by the location multiple times and couldn't wait to stop by for a sub sandwich. It looks small and non descript on the outside and the inside is no exception. It's small and kind of shabby. Not a lot of seating (just a counter with a few stools). The options are kind of odd. You start off with picking the layers of meat and cheese you want. I selected one layer of meat and cheese. I'm honestly not sure what kind of meat it was and I wasn't offered any other option. They asked me if I wanted a hard roll or soft. I selected a hard roll but should have gotten soft. They added lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and peppers. I asked for the sauce on the side and I am glad I did. It was on the sweet side and I ended up only putting a little bit on. A sandwich and drink was close to $7. I didn't think there was anything in partciular special about it. Flavors were ok. Other than the sweet sauce, I thought it was kind of bland. Service was ok to say the most. Their hours are very limited (I think only open to 4 or 4:30 during the week) which doesn't make convenient for dinner. I don't think I'd make another stop.

OK; let me start by saying (Subway, Quiznos and Tubby's) don't even come close.......when it comes to old fashion subs vinne's is the place. From the fresh brioche style buns (soft or rustic hard) your choice......to the fresh deli meats. Theses sub's are filling, and flavorful.....just a good old fashion cold cut sandwich. I also tried the chicken sub, while good......I would've liked GREAT!!!!. The sub is worth getting, but I felt it needed more chicken less lettece. Now "I AM" comparing the chicken sub too "Haz Subs & Salads" Fort St. Downtown Detroit......but back to Vinnie's......at the end of the day its a nice filling sub, add a single bag of Better Made chips and its a great lunch. My over all experience was a 8 out of 10.....the only reason I couldn't rate it a 10 out of 10 was the young lady forgot to put my Italian dressing on the side for one of the subs. After I asked if it was in the bag..........

If you're looking for an authentic, tasty, quick Italian sub, look no further. Vinnie's has been around forever, with it's black-and-white police car out front giving all those travelling Michigan Avenue ample reason to touch the brakes. Well you're already slowing down, swing in and get a sandwich. The sizes of the Italians are progressive with 6/2, 10/3, 12,3, and on and on. The upper number is layers of meat, while the lower number denotes layers of cheese. Get it loaded with tomato, onion, and peppers and you won;t be sorry! Try some of their salads too, like potato or antipasto. They're home made chicken soup is straight out of Grandma's kitchen. This is a small local place, so please support them. Pay attention to the limited hours though. They do take plastic now with an $8 minimum.

I had a tast for some food but I wasn't sure actually what I was looked for - so I decided to go somewhere close to my job since I only have a hour for lunch. This is a small place (inside) but the guys serving were very friendly - when i walked in I was totally lost. I never been there but there prices wasn't bad - think the highest sandwich was $6.25. I decided to go with "ITALIAN SAUSAGE" sub which was topped with green peppers and onion (I think it had some sweet sauce the vegs were cooked in) and you have choice of two types of bread: HARD and SOFT. I went with the soft. The only thing I would suggest - Maybe suggesting or asking if there were anything else I needed; chips or fries (I dont even know if they serve fries - Lol!) and maybe add more mean or split the sausage the long way; it felt like the bread over powered the meat. Definitely quick serve - I was out less than 5 mins and yes I'll be take to try some more.

Italian, on the hard bread is the way to go (for me, anyways). Fast, friendly service, they don't skimp on the meat or toppings...my only complaint, is they are not closer to me! This is my favorite Italian Sub! My mouth waters just thinking about it:)

Great service & great sub! I just tried chicken sub with Italian dressing it was delicious. My husband had a 5/2(5 meat/2sides) Sub is huge but healthy with fresh ingredience!

Came here for the first time even though: a) I like Italian subs a LOT. b) I've lived in Canton for a year and a half now, and c) I go to the Jimmy John's across the street about once every other week. It's just that this place has only lunch hours and i'm usually in Ann Arbor while they're open. But luckily, I had a meeting earlier in the day, so I was free for lunch and decided to try this place out. Vinnie's is a nice little sandwich stand overall- not a ton of places to sit, but friendly nonetheless. I got a 10/2 which seemed pretty good, not too small, not too huge, Italian sub, fully loaded with the trimmings. I ended up paying about $10 for a side of potato salad and pop too, since I had no cash i had to get to the $8 limit. No biggie, just one of those things. The sandwich itself was delicious. The soft roll isn't really soft, it's chewy with the nice bit of crunch on the top. I don't think i'd go for the hard roll as crumbs would go everywhere. The potato salad was good, nothing too standout about it. The sandwich was a star, but i think i still prefer Dibella's in Ann Arbor simply because they have sweet peppers and the bread is more substantive. But, for a Canton lunch when the other choices are fast food and coney island, I would definitely come here again to try some of the other sandwich options.

I've been twice, and i've been hooked. In my two visits with my brother we've sampled a 10/2, italian sausage, and a cheese steak. First two on soft roll, latter on hard roll. Sub 10/2: Seemed like the right balance of 'dam lotta meat' to 'i don't wanna die' from meat coma. Just a simple, traditional, no fancy biz italian sub. Their bread, and house dressing just kills it. For the simpleton this is a win. Italian Sausage: The sausage combines sweet notes with savory juices that are set off with a kick of spice in your mouth. This ain't t no sausage for the weak. I like that the peppers and onions weren't cooked down until soft mush, but their large size with the rough chop made them unwieldy on the sandwich. Instead of a nice bite with all flavor components, i just chased around with nibbles as the peppers tried to slip away. Cheese Steak: Rocked this on a hard roll, never looked back. The beef is stewed and taken out per order and drained. It's velvety meat glory that is perfectly accompanied by *IMO* lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini, onion, house dressing, and pepper oil! I'm craving this right now!

Old school Italian deli to the max. Great customer service, great Italian subs. The sausage and peppers are amazing also. Prices are reasonable for the size of the food. Get there early cause they close early. Usually eat there once a month . They will always get my business.

Best Italian subs around and their chicken noodle soup is pretty good too. Service is fast and courteous as well. Beats all the chains easily

I have been passing by this place for years and i thought it was closed down, until i read yelp and seen that this is a early bird/lunch hours place. So i came here for lunch the other day and here are my reactions to it: I got the 6/1 (should of got a 10/2) on a soft roll and it was great, probably the best Italian sub i have ever had (slight advantage over jersey mike's). I also had the steak and cheese on Hard roll and it too was great. However its more italian beef style sandwich (minus the sweet peppers) and by judging it on that scale, it can go neck to neck with any chicago italian beef sandwich and be one of the best. They only have 5 sides (potato salad, antipasto salad, olives, pickles, and small bag of chips),and maybe 20 seats total in the place. Overall, very good place, and my go to when i want a italian sub. P.S. Love the dressing and the bread

I went here because I'm absolutely IN LOVE with Vinnie's Hamburgers down Michigan Avenue near Beck Road. I was not impressed. Matter of fact - didn't like it at all. I do notice, though, that quite a few of the reviews give it 4 stars or more so maybe I'll give it another chance. Not sure, though, because there are just so many other places that are good from the get go. As far as I'm concerned, if you want an AUTHENTIC Italian Sub, you need go no further than Gonella's on Outer Drive near Pelham.

  • Irwin F.

The Italian subs are solid but not spectacular. I need to try the steak and cheese upon my next visit. Worth a try for sure but I have had a better Italian sub. The service is great. Very polite, quick, and they thank you like they mean it.

I was disappointed! My friend invited me a sub it was good , I decided to go back and buy a sub I went got my sub ate half of it going to eat my other half and found a hair , I decided to give it another try same thing found another hair I was disgusted with that place , never going back or will I recommend it

  • Athena D.

Can't say I'll be back soon but staff very friendly & welcoming. Very limited menu without the authentic sides of an Italian sub shop. (we just moved from the East Coast and expected what we're used to in such a place) No veal parm, no stuffed hot peppers (those hot little gems of sharp provolone wrapped with prosciutto in olive oil), no meatball subs, etc.... I had the sausage with peppers and my other half had the steak/cheese sub. He didn't care for his but ate it out of pure hunger. I gave him the other half of my sausage. Oh well.

Well, kind of a mixed review here. I've drove by Vinnie's nearly everyday for the past 8 years, to and on the way home from work. It always was before they opened at 7am, then at 5pm, after they closed. However, since 2011 started, I've been starting at 6am and finally had the opportunity to stop at Vinnies. I was impressed by the friendly counter people and the old fashioned feel of the building. I got 2 subs, the 5 & 1 on a soft roll with italian dressing and loaded for the wife and a 6 & 1 on a hard rool with the spicy dressing and loaded for me. I also got 2 cups of the Chicken noodle Soup and a side order of the olives. I loved my sub and thought it was very tasty. I go to Gonella's by my work and thought that Vinnies was a notch better in my opinion. The Chicken Soup was a nice compliment to the sub, and had a nice flavor and spice to it. The olives were superb, and had a nice bit of zest to them. My wife, in contrast to my review, wasn't to impressed. She seems to like the "BIG BOX" type of sub, for example, Subway, Quiznos, Tubby's... I like the Mom & Pop's type subs... She thought her sub tasted "musty" and didn't finish it. I finished it however, and didn't believe it tasted "musty" at all. She didn't care for the Chicken Soup either... So, although if it was me alone, I'd rate it a 4 Star, but instead, have to rate them a 3 star with my wifes review. I thought the prices were very reasonable and will definately stop at Vinnie's again soon, of course, not with the Mrs...

If you grew up Italian or around Italians then you know what a good sub tastes like. And Vinnie's is the place to go to get one. The Italian, steak, chicken, and sausage subs are all delicious. As is the broth in that delicious chicken soup. The dressing is what really puts their subs over the edge. I tend to get an extra sub with the oil on the side just so I won't have to pick just one when i go there. A great family run business who are more than welcoming. I moved to MI from NY 15 years ago and Vinnie's is the only place out here that I've found with subs that bring me back to that area.

I'm definitely a fan of local sub shops (Dan's in Farmington Hills... Ricky's in Dearborn... I'm looking at you) and Vinnie's is no exception. While I could put away two #9's at Jimmy Johns, the 10/2 Italian on soft bread at Vinnie's is pretty substantial, and reasonably priced at about $7.50 with everything and tax. Every time I've been there, it's been the same woman behind the counter, and she's been very friendly, almost like I've gone to my friend's house as a kid, and his mom just gave me a sandwich. The Italian sandwich itself is pretty great. I mean, the taste is like someone just came back from a Kowalski deli, stopped at the bakery, and grabbed a bottle of Wishbone Italian dressing to make you a sandwich. (Yeah, I'm not 100% sold on the dressing) Where it gets a little disheartening is the pricing. Want hard bread instead of soft? $0.30, please. Want onions, tomatoes, and peppers? That'll be another $0.30 (even if you only want the onions). Too expensive? Not at all. But I'd rather they just charged everyone $0.30 more than the basic price. Better yet, make them all $0.50 more, and skip the $8 minimum charge for credit cards.

Nice simple menu with a great ordering style. Staff are awesome and subs are some of the best I've had. The dressing is worth the drive in itself. This is the only sub my wife will have. Love the place, love the food & love the folks working there.

Dream sub shop! This is how it is supposed to be, down to its own ordering language. "10 loaded hard." Thats how you say it!

Very good subs. I typically get the 6 and 1 Italian sub, and I haven't been disappointed yet. I tell everyone about this place. The guys are always friendly to me, so I keep coming back. Keep it up!

I have been reading the good reviews on this place for a while, but never had a chance to check it out until this past Saturday. Our subs were made quickly and we were in and out within 5 mins. I really liked the wall seating in case you wanted to eat inside. I had the chicken sub (which they made a little spicy) and my gf had the steak sub. Everything was really good and seemed really fresh. We are definitely going back when we have time.

I've eaten food from here a few times and I must say, I love this place. One of the times we've ordered food, it was for a party and we ordered a gigantic 5' sub. Our office loved it. Now, if you're looking for something fancy, then this is not the place for you. This is a very simple, old - fashioned sub shop. The service is always friendly and the food is simply delicious. I will definitely continue to swing by. Beware, you can miss it if you blink, so look for the old fashioned police car sitting out front.

Yum! I got a few Italians to go for James, my dad and I. I could not stand cooking one more meal, ugh. Subs are popular with all of us and we are living as a group between two domiciles so it seems as if I am constantly cooking and/or cleaning. Vinnies is also handily located between both places, yay! Onto Vinnies... There are few things in life I relish as much as a sandwich concoction, when done well it is a completely happy meal in itself. Vinnie's does it very well indeed and at a reasonable enough price that adds to my overall pleasure. Big thumbs up for the Cantoro's bread, a great sandwich has to start with top notch bread. The versatility of the sandwich, as you can get seemingly any ratio of meat to cheese you can think of, is terrific. Whatever you want, however you want it and multiple options for everything. Italian dressing or spicy sub sauce? Soft or hard bread? Whatever works for you. The meat was tasty with good texture, cheese was the real deal. Together we created the perfect sub combo for me, not too much cheese, plenty of meat, peppers and veggies and not too much spicy sauce (I hate drowned) but enough to make it all meld into delicious perfection. The first bite was followed by that happy sigh when you find the right flavor combination made just for you. It was zippy and satisfying, filling but not overwhelming. The subs were well wrapped, appropriately marked and nicely packed up which prevented drips and confusion upon passing them around. I don't think any of us were at all less than blissful consuming these sandwiches, in fact my picky husband can't wait to get more. I hope the general love is not due to all of us being glad to eat something I did not cook. Yeah thats a good excuse to go back, I need to know for sure it was not desperation deliciousness...

Like many others, I've driven past Vinnie's hundreds of times; however it was always after closing (4:30 PM). Today I was home for lunch and decided to give them a shot. Italian subs are one of my favorite sandwiches and I do not like your typical chain sandwich shop Italian sub. Vinnie's specialty is as the name implies, the Italian. They sell them by the meat/cheese ratio, e.g 5 layers of meat to 1 layer of cheese, etc. I had a 10/2 which worked out to be a decent ratio, slightly more filling than the run of the mill sub. You can get a regular Italian roll or a crusty one. I had the hard roll with the works, lettuce, onion, and peppers plus Vinnie's sauce (their Italian dressing) and some hot pepper oil. It was exceptionally good, it took me back to my days past on the docks in Napoli! My wife had the chicken sub with ranch dressing and she really liked it. We also got a large container of the homemade chicken soup which was also very good, with seashell macaroni, chunks of chicken, onion, celery and carrots. The total bill was $20 which I think is reasonable for the quality of the food. They also have a well-reviewed cheese steak and some other sandwiches. Some sides, but no fries, etc. It's a really nice change of pace and I shall return to Vinnies!

  • Brenda M.

Delicious homemade Italian dressing. Yum. The service here is top notch, and everything is so fresh. The building isn't much, and smells kind of "old", but the yummy hard roll and tastiness of the meat and cheese makes up for that. They do accept credit cards now, but have an $8 minimum.

This place opened before I moved out of Michigan - in 2006 so I think Dick H needs to check his dates (spelling too). I've been there around 15 times. I now live in Los Angeles but still often crave a Vinnies sub. The people there are so nice they let me run a tab once because I didn't have cash (which is, like Dick H. says, a pain), I felt like Norm on Cheers. Really good hot sauce, meat, bread and peppers. Another bummer is that they had strange days and hours of operating. I give 5 stars because it's a family run business that has a great product with friendly service.

    (5)
  • CrapulentMoose ..

Hands-down the best Italian sub I've ever had anywhere. I like how you can order the ratio of meat to cheese that you want, whether on soft or hard bread, and then choose between the two house-made dressings. I also like how the subs come wrapped in heavy butcher paper, so nothing soaks through even if the sandwich has to chill on the car seat for a little while. Service is always quick, straightforward, and friendly. Vinnie's is no frills, but they manage to put a perfect sub in your hand every time for a very fair, if not cheap, price. Come here and you will not be disappointed!

Vinnies is an unassuming, but quality little sub shop along the major cross section of Michigan and I94. I have literally driven by the multiple incarnations of this place but never was motivated to go. Well, with the original owners back and firmly developing their food empire (Vinnies burger stand down the street.), I finally found an excuse to go. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by how bright and charming this place is. The staff was nice enough, and walked you through their menu. The cold subs are measured by layers and start with 5 slices of meat and 1 slice of cheese to the mammoth 20 something slices of meat and 5 slices of cheese, which I can't even imagine eating. I found that the sub was pretty respectable, well priced, with a variety of decent quality salami, ham, pepperoni and provolone. Nothing here was gourmet, or particularly authentic hard core italian, but satisfying none the less. The sandwiches are topped with two different home made dressings which could be zested up with spices at the counter. The 10 and 2 I had definetely stuffed me for 6 dollars. What was a surprise to me was one of their hot subs, the steak and cheese sandwich. This is one of the closest things to a chicago italian beef I have had in a very long time with juicy thin sliced beef soaking in it's own dark and rich au ju. Granted, they don't have giardiniera, (I'm half tempted to bring my own...) and will only give you a side of ju to pour on top but it was delicious. Anyway, due to it's limited hours, this place is only accessible for lunch, but if you find yourself in this direction and hungry, it's definitely worth a bite.

One more reason to support your local businesses. It's *that* good.

  • Uzie E.

All the cold subs I have tried have been great, especially the Italian. You have a choice of bread, either hard or soft, I have only tired the soft and it's perfect for this type of sub. The meat and cheese is thin sliced and tastes fresh. Now for the bad, the "Steak" Hoagie is not of the same quality as the other subs that I've tried. I think it is Steak-Umm or something similar. It has a odd smell and taste, not something I can recommend. In fact, I could not finish it. It would be nice if they had an authentic Italian Beef Sandwich. See my Wise Guy's review for an example of a true Italian Beef. The prices are fair and they now take credit cards. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. I will definitely be back when I have a craving for a great cold sub.

Wow. This is good. I've been in the area for years now and didn't think to try this place. Someone recommended it to me as I wanted a good local sub-shop. 1st impression walking in: small yet with personality. 1st impression of woman behind counter: small yet loads of personality! :) The customers were talking about this "Turkey Delight" sub and harassing the woman that it should be on the menu. She commented that it will be soon. I was curious. I got it. Best decision ever! Turkey Delight - Turkey, swiss, mayo, onion, tomato, lettuce, mild peppers, italian sauce and their special hot oil. Huge. Cost: $6.30 after tax. They do take credit but only over $8 (which is probably easy if you get a cookie and pop or maybe just a pop). They also take Discover..which is a 50/50 with small businesses. Needless to say...I'm going to be a repeat customer and most likely with guests!

Grew up in Jersey- Italian by heritage. This place is fantastic! I call it a hoagie- it rivals mine. Brought my 4 kid's in first time, most customers were truckers, consturction workers ect.- they brought cookies and brownies for the kids- nice touch. Back in Canton for the first time in 5 years- Vinnie's is a must stop.

Great hometown sandwich shop and friendly help. Meat is pre-sliced in store. I've tried the Steak & Cheese and rate it as better than average. Figure on 6-inch sandwich that will leave you filled.

Small simple menu means quick (slightly surly) service. The veggie sub has cheese, stewed peppers & onions, plus lettuce tomato and onion. Could have used mustard or mayo. I was not asked if I wanted condiments, so I don't know if they have any! The peppers were really good, not cooked too long so they still had some bite. My only question is why a hard roll is 30 cents extra even though it's smaller. Are they harder to make?

The only thing I would suggest - Maybe suggesting or asking if there were anything else I needed; chips or fries (I dont even know if they serve fries - Lol!) and maybe add more mean or split the sausage the long way; it felt like the bread over powered the meat. Definitely quick serve - I was out less than 5 mins and yes I'll be take to try some more.

The Italian subs are solid but not spectacular. I need to try the steak and cheese upon my next visit. Worth a try for sure but I have had a better Italian sub. The service is great. Very polite, quick, and they thank you like they mean it.

Italian, on the hard bread is the way to go (for me, anyways). Fast, friendly service, they don't skimp on the meat or toppings...my only complaint, is they are not closer to me! This is my favorite Italian Sub! My mouth waters just thinking about it:)

Oh well.
