The decor was modern and nice. Upon arrival the waiter was very friendly, but ordering process not explained and he wasn't very tentative (never refilled water, rarely came near table to be flagged down, wasn't clear when explaining things). The food was good overall. Good variety on the menu. The chicken tempura and veggie tempura were delicious- light and crisp. One member of the party had a sushi burrito. They offered different flavored soy paper wraps. The size was bigger than Taco Bell burrito, smaller than chipotle burrito. Apparently it was very good. Prices were pretty standard for the area and not overly expensive. Aside from the lacking waiter, my only real complaint was the seaweed wrapping in the rolls. I eat sushi regularly and have had it at many sushi restaurants in the city. Never had a problem with the seaweed anywhere. At Haru the seaweed wrapping was so tough, it wasn't easy to chew. I literally started choking on the first piece because of it's toughness, and had to remove the seaweed wrapping from all other sushi. The soy paper on rolls were better, but when they weren't cut to the exact size of the bite, they got chewy as well.

This restaurant was located in a strip mall near Panera and Applebees. It's a very small restaurant which fits about 40 people. Interior is very modern and clean. Price wise it's a tad more expensive, but the food was delicious. We ordered two spicy tuna handrolls with fried shrimp tempura - very good! Dol sot bibimbop - ample amount of meat, veg and egg. Presentation of meal was excellent and you get a side of gochuchang sauce. Tip: leave rice in bowl for a few minutes to get extra crispy rice. This was $15....tad bit more expensive than Korean restaurants I have visited. I would definitely have it again. Only negative was our server - he never seem to be around. We needed an additional spoon or refills on our drinks and we had to wave him down. He did apologized for it. We felt bad for the table who sat down by us and he had forgotten about them and were easy to order.

Very modern, cozy restaurant with delicious sushi! We started with shrimp shumai which was a bit of a small portion- only 4 in the order. They were tasty, however, and came with a mildly spicy sauce. We had a roll with tempura shrimp, avocado, and crab salad, which was tasty and fresh. We also had the Fire Crunch roll, which had a nice portion of fresh, cubed spicy tuna along with eel and crunchy stuff (little pieces of tempura?)- this was also very good overall, although it was a touch salty for my taste. We shared one of the "burritos"- a large hand roll stuffed with fresh fish, avocado, tempura shrimp, lettuce and a spicy mayo. Sounds really busy, but it was well balanced and very hearty. To drink my wife had got green tea and I had iced green tea, which was hand made with matcha in a tea steeper; really nice and very tasty. The service was also good, as I embarrassingly spilled a large glass of ice water all over and my waiter was there in an instant helping me clean up and replacing my soggy napkins, plates, and chop sticks! I was very appreciative.

A 10 out of 10 no drawbacks just great service amazing, fresh food, prepared perfectly. It is absolutely my favorite sushi restaurant in town. I go at least 1 every two weeks, and have never had a bad time.

I was so excited to hear that Haru Sushi served sushi burritos. There was a decent amount of burritos to choose from and the portion was generous for the price. I ordered the Fire Crunch burrito and thought it could have used more spicy tuna. Overall, it was pretty good and I would order it again. I also ordered one of their special rolls. I think it was called the Haru Roll which included bulbogi in it. The flavor was great. They cut their rolls in pretty big pieces. Wished it was in smaller pieces but it didn't stop me from eating it.

Ordered a sushi combo (California roll with 5 piece nigiri) to go, and omg it was delicious. The chefs really do not skimp on the cuts whatsoever, and I really appreciated the fish-rice ratio. The California roll was tastier than expected, they put a layer of fish eggs on top which was nice. Also, the house salad dressing is my favorite! So glad this place is close to home :)

There are some 'authentic' menu items, but most of the menu is based on pushing the envelope of Japanese sushi. The service is good, as is the food. I found the salad to be delightful and the unagi was stellar. We will be back to try the other items, but haven't found any thing to make this my top sushi joint for the Grand Rapids area.

Worth paying restaurant prices. Tiger roll and dragon roll, both good. Nice modern ambience. Good place for dinner/lunch with friends.

Very good sushi! It's probably my second favorite in town, behind Maru. The creativity of their rolls is just a little behind for me, but their prices are more reasonable than Maru's. For a veggie like me, they have a good selection of veggie rolls with some delicious tempura. Their fried tofu appetizer was also AMAZING. Their sauces are delicious with lots of great flavor. The meat eaters we went with both got hibachi (it's great they have that as an offering for those who don't want sushi!), and they had lots of colorful veggies - they said they were very happy with their emals. The acoustics are a little loud, it was a bit difficult to hold a conversation with a full house on a Saturday. The service was awesome, though - he answered our many questions about the menu with a smile! For a five star review, I'd be looking for more creative and flavorful options for veggie sushi and a little less noise. Other than that, the food is awesome and I'd definitely recommend Haru to anyone in the area looking for some good Japanese good.

Very nice lunch spot. I got smoked salmon and tuna nigiri and the smoked salmon tempura roll. Bill: $18 and change Clean and casual Nothing blew me away. It was a nice place with good sushi. Perhaps more trips will increase my opinion. One time is seldom enough to evaluate.

The food was pretty good; the only reason not to give it a four star is that the waiter brought the main course before the miso soup and the salad and the place wasn't busy; also the restaurant smelled like a strong fish odor; I know its a sushi place but you can't have an unpleasant smell while you are coming in the door.

Unlike other sushi restaurant, Haru looks like a cafe or a trendy restaurant in a big city. I love owner's taste of dishes and decoration. Not only their looks but also their dishes are extraordinary. Shish is always fresh and rice is also well cooked. I could recognize they use good quality of rice. If you aren't a big fan of sushi, you must try roll with tempura and rice paper, udon (Japanese noodles soup) or mixed rice. They also show us a certain level of quality which I hardly can find in a city of midwest. So I regularly visit Haru to enjoy high quality food even crossing the city from kalamazoo to grand rapid. It is a two thumbs up restaurant!!

AMAZING! Very high quality ingredients. Terrific service and attention to detail. Volcano roll is amazing if you like spicy foods and the Mochi ice cream has forever changed desert for me! LOVE THIS PLACE. The owner Jay seems passionate about his business and the sushi chefs are all on point (an Asian gentleman named David rolled ours)... The dinning area is a little small so if you have a large group you'll want to get there a bit early But you'll never get sushi anywhere else.

Very creative sushi selection and friendly staff. Our favorite this visit was the Muenster--a roll topped with spicy crab salad and Muenster cheese.

This place is a gem! The quality of the fish is outstanding and the rolls are creative and flavorful without being crazy over-the-top. The restaurant itself is pretty small and cozy. They have a long bench type seating with throw pillows on one wall. They always have some fun takeaway or table decoration. One time there were little gumball machines, and another time I got a gummy worm with a bookmark at the end of my meal. Definitely not something that I would come to expect, but a nice treat. The sushi at Haru is seriously some of the freshest and most delicious. I make a point to visit all sushi places, because I love sushi so much... and this is my all-time new favorite! It's worth the drive (from downtown GR for me). I recommend it all the time.

My fav sushi spot besides Ju. Small, convenient, close to me location wise. Very cool vibe. I don't feel intimated going in to eat by myself. I always get the same server, Jordan. He has the best personality and makes the experience top notch. Everything I've tried is really good. I like the spicy crab roll with extra spicy mayo. Reasonably priced. When I'm there by myself, I'm always out for less than $10 as long as I don't order a speciality roll.

Ate here on a Thursday at 5:30. We thought it would be a quick dinner with the kids, but it took an hour and fifteen just to get our food. The food was just ok.

Thank goodness we didn't order a meal before trying the appetizers and rolls.. 6 rolls, Edamame.. Simply incredible. Great food, great service, perfect portions.

I go to Haru whenever I'm in town. I love the dragon roll and I could eat their California rolls for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Delicious. I love that you can do online ordering and go pick it up. They are very fast but everything turns out beautiful and yummy!

Excellent food! I had the chicken katsu bento and my husband had the sashimi sampler. Beautiful presentation and great portion size for the price. Definitely one of our new favorite Japanese spots!

Come here all the time. Probably the best sushi in the area in my opinion. I have yet to have a roll I didn't like and I've been through at least 50% of the sushi menu. Their other menu is quite delicious as well. But the sushi chef is an absolute artist. Not only is the food amazing, but so is the presentation. And on top of it all the staff is always amazingly amazingly kind. I can't recommend this place enough. I feel like is has one of the more unique dining experiences as well. The venue is small and cozy and extremely well decorated. You won't be disappointed. If you like sushi, give this place a try!

Really glad we found this gem! Husband and I have been twice in two weeks now. I thought Maru was the best sushi in GR, but their service has really been lacking the last few visits. We decided to try Haru instead and love it! I think the prices are quite reasonable for sushi and I really like the atmosphere.

I originally stopped on my way back east to grab a quick bite at Panera, but detoured next door to Haru instead. Best decision I've made all day. The sushi was SO GOOD! It was fresh and delicious and very well-made. The restaurant itself was small and clean and the staff was all very friendly. I made a note to self to stop here again the next time I pass through this part of the state. Highly recommend!!

If you are looking for a luxurious sushi restaurant, this place may not be your choice. But you are looking for a quality sushi and cozy atmosphere in western Michigan, this is the place for you. I have been to every single sushi restaurant in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek area and I can tell this Haru Sushi is the best of the best. You really would appreciate the quality of sushi. Rice is perfectly cooked with right amount of seasoning, which gives the perfect combination with fresh fish. Fish are fresh and quite large and thick compared to any other sushi places. While Some other sushi restaurants give thin fish over large amount of rice, this Haru sushi is quite opposite.

Great nigiri and maki! The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is friendly. The restaurant seems a bit out of place being in a strip mall. Seems like a place you would find downtown GR or in Eastown. Definitely worth a try. I recommend the Red Dragon Roll and the Izumi-Dai (snapper) nigiri.

This was recommended by several people and online sources say the best sushi places are 1. Maru 2. Haru 3. Tokyo Grill Tokyo Grill is way better. I felt that the rice in the sushi at Haru was really dry. My initial bill was around $43 which would have been way less at Tokyo Grill. After I lieft, I found that they overcharged me quite a bit, and so I had to go back in and complain. They gave me a refund and charged me for the correct amount, and so I lowered my tip a bit. I probably should have given them a $0 tip. I was told the Sushi chef used to work at Tokyo Grill. You would think he would know how to make good sushi.

Not the greatest prices but for Japanese food I've seen worst. There was a ton of takeout orders while we ate there but everything from seaweed salad to sauce accompanying BimBimBap was top notch.

Easily the best sushi within a 20 mile radius of Kentwood! I eat here as often as I can!! Tempura rolls are amazing!

Had an awesome experience at Haru when I went and visited with a friend. The vibe of the restaurant was very inviting and cozy, and the people that worked there were kind and welcoming. We came in a bit dangerously close to their closing time (sorry!) but they didn't even bat an eye. The sushi and nigiri were great and reasonably priced! Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious, inviting, no-fuss option for sushi in this neighborhood.

I'm torn between a 1 or 2 star rating here but am going to give the higher one for now. I was pretty damn disappointed with my first experience here. I've heard rave reviews from many people including the wonderful food and incredibly friendly staff and service. My experience was much much different. The food- pretty good! The service- zero. My waitress seemed like she was annoyed that she had to wait on me and had the personality of a rock, didn't crack a smile the entire time. I ordered the miso soup, house salad, and 2 rolls. The salad was gorgeous but I was kinda bummed that the ginger dressing wasn't anywhere near as good as I've had elsewhere. However, I got a small bit of the Haru dressing and mixed the 2 and it was decent. The miso soup was fine, same as anywhere. My rolls (Crunch Munch II and veggie tempura) were great! However, I was incredibly irritated that my rolls (which are served warm and meant to be eaten that way) were served literally 2 minutes after I received my soup and salad. There was only one other couple in the restaurant.... they should have waited until my firsts were finished to serve the sushi. Apparently the sushi chef was in too much of a hurry to go back to his own meal at the back table. Again with the service, I had to ask twice for a water refill, for my bill, for a to-go box and then sauce to go with it. C'mon. Oh and one other thing- another sushi chef (?) walked in and by me several times. I smiled each time and didn't get even a hello or smile back. What is with these people? Like I said, disappointing. I'll stick to my go-to, Maru!! The one 5-star part: good music selection and beautifully decorated!

Wow, what a gem! Very nice ambiance and decor. Great service. Food is excellent- very good quality and HUGE portions. We ordered the sashimi bowl- fabulous. Their specialty rolls are very good; very big though, keep that in mind when you order.

Very good hibachi and bento. I'm not a big sushi fan, but I tried some tempura sushi and really liked it. I'll definitely keep visiting Haru.

Not only is the sushi the best in Grand Rapids, but the atmosphere and the staff are incredible. Haru is perfect in every detail, the decor is well designed, the presentation is top notch, and the food is extremely fresh.

Cool setting. It's a small place, maybe ten or eleven tables. Ordered Iceland volcano roll, tuna tattake, and some various nigiri. I've eaten sushi for twelve years. I've NEVER had nigiri that big. Tasted good too. On top of that, pricing is pretty darn good too. The rolls were slightly above average.
