Will definitely come back! Atmosphere is very cool and definitely unassuming from the outside. Very rustic and northern michigan like, complete with moose antlers and bear skins on the walls. All of that is helpful in keeping little kids attention and they loved it also! Food was good, nothing spectacular but I didn't expect that. We came for breakfast so not sure how the lunch or dinner food is. Just a cool place that is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. Very friendly staff also!!

Located in the old Sam's Joint in Alaska/Caledonia, The Bowlegged Moose welcomed us in with open arms on Christmas Eve, but left something to be desired with the food. First, there was some confusion with the menu; we were given a lunch menu but based on everything we heard, their signature items (like the ribs) are on the dinner menu. Our server graciously agreed to take orders for several items off the dinner menu for our meal. Maybe it was these special orders that threw the meal off, but several plates came out cold, and needed to be reheated. The soup and salad came out with the meal instead of beforehand, causing other dishes to get cold. My husband's taco plate was incredibly salty but for the sake of time, he ate it instead of sending it back. All that being said, my Blu Moose burger with blu cheese and aioli was tasty and the Chicken Salad my sister in law ordered turned out to me a winner. My fries were on the lukewarm side but were otherwise nice, and a delightful surprise was when my burger came out on a soft, warm pretzel bun. I'd like to give the Moose another try when we have a smaller dinner party in hopes that the food quality matches the hospitality.

We stopped by for dinner now that they are open in the evenings. It's a big improvement over the old Sam's...clean, bright and cheerful. The menu has lots of options and both our meals were good. DH had the sausage sampler and said it was tasty. I went for a cheeseburger, since their Mackinac Island burger joint is so popular. I was not disappointed! Yum! Finally, the prices are very reasonable. We will be back! Update: have now eaten here several times. Can recommend the Rueben fritters appetizer (yum!) and also the half BBQ chicken dinner. Overall, it's a good neighborhood solution when you don't feel like cooking. Not fancy but good, basic food.

My husband and I just ate here for the first time tonight and it was a great experience. Great food, quick and pleasant service, very tasty and hot food and a nice, old fashioned atmosphere. Looks like an old saloon inside. A great and welcome addition to Caledonia. We will be returning!

Great to see this place open . We went there for breakfast . Very good menu with lots of options . The service was great and they worked together to make sure we were taken care of . While there we looked at the dinner menu . Good to see gluten free items called out. Nothing fancy about the decor , but a nice alternative place to visit

We went here for lunch but they only were serving breakfast which turned out to be very very yummy! I had their western omelet and my husband had their big breakfast which was more than enough for him to share! Pancakes were huge and filling! Waitress was super friendly and attentive ! Love this place!

Great atmosphere! Ribs were awesome; staff was very nice! The "old church" feel is pretty cool!

Went to breakfast this morning expecting same old same old...eggs, meat and toast. The menu is not large at this time they are waiting to expand until they get there liquor license from the state transferred over. Right now they are only opened for breakfast and lunch. I had the south of Alaska scramble with rye toast my husband had the breakfast burrito with churizo. Both dishes came with a homemade salsa that was perfect. The staff was on top of the coffee and wanted to know if everything was good. We will be back for diner when they open that up. The parking is a little strange as there is parking on both sides of the building. They are still renovating the interior at this time can't wait to see what they do with some of the old features of the building.

Yum. Very good food. Cool atmosphere. Pretty good beer specials. Had the rattlesnake burger. It had a pretty good kick. It was nice being on a pretzel bun too. A little stingy on the fries though. My wife had a burrito and it was good sized. The price was very reasonable especially for kids.

Great place. The outside is not representative of the inside and the food. The indoor atmosphere is nice with a northern theme and the food has not disappointed me. I would go back anytime.

I had a bike race in the area and wanted to try something new. I saw the reviews of this place so I had to try it. We had lunch here but the waitress recommended the corned beef skillet. WOW sooo good. We were asked a couple of times by different people if everything was good so I felt they really cared about customer service. Loved the decor in this remote area. Will go again when I am in the area.

We've been here twice - partly because of the location (We're in Alto), partly because of the great name and partly because of some interesting menu items. Between my hubby and I, we've ordered the Jalapeno chicken alfredo (thin sauce, good chicken, nice kick, good idea but lots of room for improvement), the Pan grilled tilapia (flavorless, poor texture, don't bother), the Reuben fritters for an appetizer (order these! Super delish), and a couple burgers (average but fun topping options). I haven't tried anything on the Mexican side of the menu; it seems so incongruous to the overall "flavor" of the place. I might if there were some fun twists to the standard fare. The prices are fair and I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for better quality. Some of the servers are inexperienced but they make up for it with their genuine friendliness and desire to please the customer. The owner?chef? swings by the tables and that's pretty neat. I'm going to try the Mighty Mac n' Cheese next time. I'll happily bump up to 5 stars when their food is of higher (and consistent) quality and when they have delicious vegetarian options. You can find their menu at their facebook page.

Had my retirement party there this weekend. Everyone there had a great time. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Thanks to Sharon and her staff. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We have had both breakfast and lunch there and usually take friends. It's a great place to kick back, relax and chat.
