Driving home from up north my friend pipes up in the back seat "not saying I'm hungry but are there any pasty places on the drive home?..." "No Bonnie, we've made this drive a million times, you will get Taco Bell if you behave" Ten minutes later we roll through Cadillac and I spotted this joint and basically grabbed the steering wheel out of my boyfriends hands so we could make the quick turn into here. Pasties are the ultimate symbol of Michigan up-northness to me and these were great. We got the veggie and beef- PLEASE- get the gravy with them!!!! The gravy's (gravies?) were both great, one was a beef based one and very rich and thick, the other was chicken based and super creamy. The veggie pastie was my favorite because it was packed with a bunch of different vegetables. They are served hot. They have a few tables set up to eat in or you can carry out. Although I will miss my annual baja chalupa- this spot has definitely replaced Taco Bell as the new food staple for driving to/from up north. Can't believe I had never noticed this place before- I even took a punch card with me!

This place is great! The pasties are super fresh (we watched them being made). I liked the dough on these pasties more than the others I have tried. There was a lot of meat in the filling, and the gravy was very tasty. Super, super, super clean. The restaurant, the bathroom and the open kitchen all appeared to be spotless. The staff were friendly and the owner came out and had a chat and explained the process, and how many they make etc They sell frozen pasties to go - my only regret is that I didnt buy a dozen to go. HINT!!!!! After you have had a pastie, drive across the street and buy your fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese etc - it was all very good.

Simply wonderful when it is cold out and you are looking for comfort food. Excellent crust, great filling, tasty gravy. I prefer the chicken, but they also have two other flavors. They have a selection of baked goods, but the apple dumpling is a special treat. If you call ahead you can frequently pick up a small quantity of frozen pasties to take home and have on hand. Gravy is available too.

Yum that pasties were great here. The crust was nice and flakey just the way I like it. There were three tupes to choose from beef, chicken and veggie. I also had the side of coleslaw and gravey which were good too :)

Excellent pastie, bringing old UP British traditions to the lower peninsula. Love it!

I was surprised to find a pasty joint so far south of the U.P. Mr. Foisie must be from up north because this was the real deal. The pastry itself was delicious. Highly recommended!

I'd never say this to a Yooper face-to-face...but I think Mr. Foisie's Pasties are the best I've had in Michigan, including the UP. All the flavors are good, but I'm partial to the chicken and veggie. The pastry crust is outstanding -- substantial enough to hold the filling without being tough or heavy. If you're a pastie newbie, be advised that these are substantial meat pies -- definitely shareable. But do try Mr. Foisie's if you're vacationing in the area.

Tried a beef pastie and an apple dumpling. The dumpling was really good. Now I have never had a pastie before so I have nothing to compare it to. The crust was good and flaky. The filling was ok but didn't have much meat it in. The gravy and the sour cream were a good addition. I don't like how they direct people across the street instead of having a bathroom for customers, especially when it looks like the door off to left may be a bathroom, with a sign about why they don't have one. Nonsense, work it out. May be best to get stuff to go. My grandma comes here often and likes it. She prefers the chicken pasties but they did not have any today

Decided to try a pasty to make the trip up north complete. Had the beef pasty with a side of gravy. The pasty was piping hot and the server was polite. Could use some juice or tea drinks but otherwise was great.

We didn't make it as far north as Traverse City but I asked around and was advised to try Mr. Foisie's for pasties a bit further south, and I'm really glad we did! We stopped in and got a couple veggie pasties for lunch, and drove round to some of the many picnic tables on the water to enjoy. They were perfectly spiced, and a great combination of vegetables, with a perfect crust. We went back and got several frozen to take back to my family. I would definitely recommend!

I grew up on Pasties and These are good! We had the beef. To me it was the right mix of meat and veggies. If they had carrots inside they would be perfect to me. That is how my Grandmother made them. I really wanted to try the apple dumplings but they were out.

Meat, root vegetables, and gravy entombed in a delicious shell of bread. Who doesn't like pasties?! Throw a little hot sauce on there and your good to go. I come up to Cadillac for work at least twice a year, and every time I stop here to pick up some frozen ones to take home. My favorite is the beef. The ingredients are nice and moist inside and the dough is never over cooked or dry. If you're going to eat them fresh, be sure to eat them in the store or outside in the sitting area. DO NOT TRY TO EAT THEM ON THE ROAD! I did that once and made a huge mess! Meat, tubers, and ketchup everywhere! Of course, I scrapped it off my shirt and pants and ate it. Waste not want not. The staff is super friendly. So if you're looking to take a bulk batch home, pay them the same courtesy, and be sure to call ahead and place an order.

I always enjoy a good pastie, and Mr. Foisie's hits the spot. Maybe it's the combination of not being able to find them everywhere or a sign that your "up north", but whatever it is, it works. I've tried the beef and veggie pasties here and the veggie one is the winner for me. It has a lot of flavor and when combined with the chicken gravy, it's perfect.

Amazing and the best I've had. Freshly made with potato, onion, carrot, rutabaga and either beef chicken or vegi. Worth a side trip. Gravy offered as a side along with coleslaw a slice of homemade blackberry pie. Fresh apple dumplings also available along a number smallish cookies. Love!!

So good. A MUST HAVE if you are up here!

I recommend this place for sure. I went at 2:00 in the afternoon and thought I might get a dry yucky pasty. Not so. The beef pasty was very well made, and there was a lot of filling. The dough is awesome and not all chalky and heavy like most other pasty shops. I did have to bust mine open and add salt and pepper, but I like a lot of salt on my food. I know, I know, that's not healthy, but I cheated on my diet for this place, so I was going all out!! Go here, get a pasty, you will not regret it.

The small unassuming place is really good . We were surprised to find veggie pasties here and that too so tasty . The owner was very friendly and suggested that we try the sour cream with our pastie and that combination did work. The place is very clean and has a great feel about it. Judging by the people coming in and ordering pasties , it sure is popular.

Wow, great pasties. Restaurant and bakery is clean, staff friendly and helpful. Veggie, chicken and beef options. You can get fruit pies as well. It's nice to have a pastie place this good in mid-Michigan.

Oh, pasties...I love them. Hearty, easy to freeze/transport/bake later. (look Ma, I can cook!). It's basically a sturdier "pot pie" that does not require bake ware. So as I sat on the 131-S detour through Cadillac, I spied Mr. Foisies and thought "dinner!" Surely. Picked up two frozen, and by the time I was back in Chicago, they were ready to bake for a few minutes and then be consumed. Choices: Beef: chopped flank steak, potatoes, rutabaga and onions in a pastry shell. Chicken: Just like the beef, except with chicken! chocolate chip cookie: Very soft, homemade. (yum) no-bake cookie: ate it before I left the parking lot. Ooops. (love) Total with a bottle of water: $13. Not bad! Not the best pasties ever (that award still goes to Cousin Jenny's in Traverse City), and admittedly we did not have the correct condiments for full enjoyment (sour cream, please). They were pretty bland, but did the trick...and no real complaints. Service was hometown sweet...would I stop again? Sure, if the detour takes me there. Those no-bake cookies are worth it as a stand alone. mmmmmm.

Pasties smelled good. Got a pumpkin cream cheese roll and it was worth the stop.

Pasties - the ORIGINAL "fast food"! Great hot or cold or buy frozen and bake them yourself! I recommend hot, with butter, salt and pepper - NO GRAVY, no catsup!

Mr. Foisie's Pasties makes some of the best pasties I've ever had! I have always had the vegetable pasties, but they also have beef and chicken pasties and apple dumplings. I really recommend the vegetable ones. My family, who has had the beef ones in the past, said that they prefer the vegetable ones, which are great. They have an outdoor seating area which is nice if the weather is good, but no restroom.
