My fiancé and I were driving up from Chicago to Michigan wine country for the day and stopped in for brunch along the way. Food was great and so was the service. Order the breakfast sandwich, it's amazing! My fiancé ordered an omelette and enjoyed it too. The cinnamon roll is awesome as a starter. Enjoy!

We were directed here by locals after a 5K when we were hankering for some breakfast. There were 8 of us, and while the center of the restaurant had multiple tables with 8 seats, the waitress didn't seem to know how to handle a party that large. The service was insanely slow (almost an hour for our food!). The WiFi was insanely slow and barely worked. The food was decent though.

We were directed here by a local. Said they had home made corned beef hash as well as home made biscuits & sausage gravy. Two of my weakest points. Wife had a one egg mess. Eggs, hash browns, sausage, mushrooms, onions, cheese & probably a few other things mixed together. It was great. I had 2 eggs, corned beef hash, biscuits & sausage gravy, sausage patties. It was all so good. All home made. No canned stuff. Store was very clean & wait staff was great. We will return.

Came here in hunt of homemade food, not canned. Corn beef hash and sausage yummy!! And jams are all homemade. Service was great. Met the owner enjoyed the place, gave suggestion on getting coffee from roaster.

This is Buchanan, so don't be expecting a fancy breakfast. That being said, this place is fantastic! Friendly service and fair prices. Can't ask for anything more.

Was camping near by and felt like a prepared breakfast after a night of camp fire booze. Found this place, and the decor is fun. Staff was good, but not exceptional. No complaints but no praises. I had a pancake special but seemed like it was phrased poorly. Was expecting a banana pancake, but there was no banana flavoring anywhere to be found. I asked about it, and the waitress was sure it's in the batter... They were still tastey but not exactly what I ordered. My fiancé had an omelette and said it was pretty good. All in all, decent food at a decent price. I'd put it above Waffle House, on a good day.

I've been coming here for couple of years but I may not be coming back again. This time we sat on one of the two tables outside where we have eaten numerous times before. Got some food and we're just enjoying the morning. Then another couple with a puppy came and sat on the other table next to us, few minutes later our food came out and after that some short little lady came out and got after the couple of sitting at the other table saying that "we don't actually serve food out here, and if someone is doing that they are doing it out of kindness of their heart" she said it kind of rudely and walked away. And here we are stuffing our face with food OUTSIDE! So the couple with a puppy looked around and left. So this lady basically sent customers away. Way to go. After this I will probably not come back here. If you are not going to serve food outside then DONT HAVE TABLES SETUP. or at the very least have something on the door or table saying that there is no food outside.. but moreover it's two tables couple of people .. give me a break, plus the tables outside are actually less distance from the kitchen than even the middle tables in the main room.... Anyway i hate when places and/or people get all crazy on their customers.. so on principal i will probably going to look for something also in the area.. The food here is fine.. decent breakfast food decently priced.. but this last experience has me looking for alternative.

The biscuits and gravy were fantastic! We were camping at nearby Fullers and this was a perfect spot to have a hearty Sunday breakfast.

Best homemade corned beef hash EVER. Some of the best breakfast food around. The decor is cute too, and the service is always friendly. I make sure to stop at the Back Door Cafe whenever I'm in town.

I'll never go back. I visited for a late breakfast on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, with my teenage son. We live in Buchanan, and have eaten at every local restaurant many times. But this was my first visit to the Back Door Cafe since the prior owner Danielle K. sold the restaurant some months earlier to new owners with new servers. With only three occupied tables when we entered, my son and I ordered very politely with smiles and please and thank you. The sole server was in a foul mood, and took well over 20 minutes to pour me a second cup of coffee; meanwhile she filled everyone else's cup at every other table but mine, twice, and ignored my very ordinary and polite gestures to be included in her two refill rounds. As the restaurant was basically empty, it was obvious she was declining to refill my coffee intentionally, but there was no obvious reason. It was just bizarre and uncomfortable. When she finally agreed to pour me a second cup, she did so very rudely; so rudely that she intimidated my son, and he left the restaurant with his meal half eaten. After my son left and I asked her why she was acting the way she had, she told me she knew she and I wouldn't get along just by looking at me when I first came in! I'm a rather ordinary person and was wearing very ordinary clothing; I have no idea what she was inferring. Then she told me I had been rude to her the last time I was in, even though it was my first time there since she began working there. I had never seen or met her before. When I told her I wouldn't be back, she replied "good." They love me at their competitor Hill Top, where I eat often and tip big. I'm always very polite, friendly and generous to service people. I've never had such a problem at any other restaurant anywhere. This server should be ashamed. Stay away. She'll surely spoil your meal.

Tucked in what seems to be an abandoned strip of buildings, you can find the Back Door Cafe. Small town food with many options. Overall a simple menu with few flavor variations, but good food nonetheless. I recommend the cinnamon rolls to anyone.

Great place! Delicious omelettes, biscuits and gravy, and homemade apple butter/ grape jelly. We weren't thrilled with the coffee (too weak for our liking) and wouldn't recommend the steak (unseasoned/flavorless), but otherwise, I highly recommend this place! MUCH better than the other breakfast place in town!

Breakfast for one or a group, this is the place! They are very friendly here and more than willing to meet special dietary needs. The corned beef hash is the best I've ever had but with the Egg Messes being so great, it's hard to choose!

Our shop is just up the road and we try to stop in for breakfast when we can. My wife loves their homemade cinnamon roll with real walnuts infused. This isn't your typical heat and serve operation. They make everything in house. The prices are really good...
