Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

We ate here when visiting with family and they were raving about this place! They said that everything they've gotten was great. We got the gnocci, chicken piccata salad, spinach ravioli, and canneloni, all pretty good italian food. The place is cute and feels homey. Super good service! The only reason it is 4 stars was the price is slightly more than we would've liked. Definitely recommend!

They apparently got really 'busy' when we got here. It took a server at least 15mins before they decided to help us out. We were hungry so it seemed like eternity. It's a small place so, having 4-5 full tables is pretty busy apparently. 2 servers..another one ended up helping us out. Anyhow, I was craving cannelloni..it was pretty good, cheese was a little rubbery inside (the middle was a little bit creamier) but I liked the flavor. Their bread appetizer is really good. I like the atmosphere..quite cozy. We got sat in a corner..which I like..but, it's odd that they had one chair practically in the doorway of the patio.

You are always welcome here!! We love to sit outside, when the weather permits. Old world Italian fare. Homemade with love!! Jil and I are hooked on the Marguerita Pizza and chopped Cobb Salad. Peronni Beer on tap. Please save room for the excellent homemade desserts!! Please note they are closed on Monday. Large municipal parking lot adjacent (rear) of the building. Street parking, but you may have to walk a bit.

This family owned business made my everyday evening, something magical. A smile and friendly hello as I walked in was the greeting of good things to come. I enjoyed amazing atmosphere and even more amazing dishes and a glass of wine.looking forward to returning!

My entire family love Buon Gusto. It's our go to restaurant when we can't decide what we want to eat. It's a nice little mom and pop place, very cozy seatings inside (don't expect too much elbow room). You can smell the delicious marinara when you first walk through the door. My husband's favorite is their lasagna, and my favorite is Sicilian salmon and anything with their marinara sauce. Entree comes with either soup or salad. Their minestrone is a simple broth with veggies and beans, very light. All dishes are made in house, and they are very accommodating if you have restricted diet.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon for dinner. My husband and I shared the sampler platter. We found the food to be just OK, but felt it was overpriced. The $3.50 side salad was like a small plate of salad from a bag. I wish I could report that the food was small quantities because it was such good quality but that was unfortunately not the case. There are much better options on main street in Brighton that are comparable in price but much better quality if you are looking for Italian food.

Never been to Italy but this place had me thinking I was in Italy. It simply blows away every other Italian restaurant I've ever tried. I can't go to other Italian places anymore after eating here a few times. Everything is made from scratch and they use the best, authentic ingredients. The owner is super nice and from Greece if I'm not mistaken. In 3 words or less, Amazing Italian Food.

Gluten free choices. So my daughter could eat. But then The noise level was such that we couldn't have conversation at our table The food had no taste though my daughter said hers was alright The waitress forgot to bring us bread said she was distracted then she came back and asked us if we still would like it. Didn't bring my daughter soup or salad never asked her which she would prefer. Menu stated she should have received one Not an overall wonderful experience

Pretty good. Very quaint place, but sound does travel, especially with children. The butternut squash was delicious, not too sweet. It was just a nice, overall experience. I would return again. Nice and casual ambience.

We came in a Friday night with no reservation and waited for three most worthy 15 minutes. The service was excellent, the food was even better. We love that the chef came out to every table to ask if everyone was enjoying their meal. We came back a week later, same thing. We love this place!

Good Italian food, great location... Awesome service. Prices are a little steep but what you expect really from a restaurant in this location. Their lemon cake is to die for. Absolutely the only really memorable thing about our visit there and likely the only reason to motivate us to return... But it will.

Great little family-owned Italian place. Prices are very reasonable and service is great!

I give a star because we did get food. My husband, son and daughter stopped in to pick up a take-out order. Although long time Brighton residents, we had yet to try this restaurant. My son finished a long hockey practice and was craving Italian so we were glad to have a local family restaurant. My husband is friendly, a business owner, and just very interested in all people and their stories and hard work. He asked a man there if he was the owner, hoping to start a nice conversation, a nice relationship as friends or diners. "I pay the bills." Was his response, but not with a smile or anything lighthearted. He was irritated. He proceeded to bring up the order with no further conversation, acted like it was a hassle to get plastic serveware or napkins, and initiated no further conversation. Just told my husband the ridiculou$ total for a single serving of extremely bland spaghetti with meat sauce (I have seen the owner buying the same ingredients from Gordon foods that I buy, my sauce is much better.) Will not go again, hope this guy figures it out. note: my starving hockey player son would not eat the spaghetti, said it tasted like nothing.

This restaurant is wonderful!!! The drunken shrimp was unbelievable. Also the lobster raviolli and chicken parmigiana. The service was so so wonderful. The owners were so attentive and we had a large group and no one was unhappy!! Wonderful wonderful place!!

A very quaint place with real Italian food. I was lucky enough to come on a night where they were serving braciole. The dish was absolutely delicious. Our party of six was treated like family. They all enjoyed their dinners. My daughter had an Italian soda.. delicious. Talked with the owner about my dish... she told me how she makes it. Can't wait to go back. Make reservations, small amount of tables.

Ate lunch for the first time at Buon Gusto on a Friday. My wife and I split the eggplant sandwich and a salad. The bread brought prior to lunch was too dense, and not much taste even though sprinkled with cheese. The chicken/nut/cherry salad was good, but the chicken was not very moist. The sandwich was just OK. The décor inside was cozy, and service was good (even though the waitress was brand new and was not able to answer many questions). I am sure we will give this another try for dinner some time, but not very impressed this first time.

This is the cutest little authentic Italian Restaurant I have ever been too! We had a group of 20 and the staff was super accommodating! The food was awesome and came quick. The food presentation was excellent and so so so good! Last but not least, the prices are excellent! We will definitely be back!!

Awesome family owned restaurant. The momma cooks everything from the soup to desert. On my visit I had the stuffed shell special, turkey chili, and tiramisu cheesecake..... All was divine! Can't wait to go back!

I was glad to find this place (we were there during Taste of Brighton) since several of the other restaurants seemed overpriced by comparison. I was charmed by the interior and mom and pop feel. The son of the owners greeted us in the booth on the street (nice guy). The kids meals were inexpensive and huge. The taste of the salmon with tomatoes (forget the name) was good. The caesar salad was blah. What turned me off completely were the 10-plus bones in my salmon. It took some doing to keep going after the 2nd or 3rd (I didn't want the hassle of complaining and my fiance had eaten a good part of it,) I didn't complain but I did want to draw the owner's attention to it. He was pretty unfriendly and said, "Oh, he forgot some bones, it happens." The bones were on my bread plate. He got me a new bread plate. I'm sure others have had good meals there--I just won't go back.

You know when you've had something delicious? When you are still wanting more days later... My husband and I checked out Buon Gusto during a recent date night. The small, intimate patio and reasonable prices drew us in more than the other spots in Brighton. While we only sampled two things on the menu, they were excellent. We tried two of their pizzas -- the Margherita and one with olives and artichokes. Both were true Italian-style thin crust pizzas. They were AMAZING. I like to consider myself a Margherita pizza snob since I order them almost anytime they are on a menu. Well, this one may be the best I've ever tasted! I put the entire 12" one down with no problems. The ingredients were fresh. Not your typical cheap pizza joint mozzarella - this stuff was the real deal. And the basil clearly was grown in a garden. So. Freakin. Good. But that isn't even the best part. We got a LITER of Pinot Grigio for $16.50! That was about 3.5 glasses of wine for both the hubby and I. We almost always get a bottle of wine when we go on dates and this was by far the cheapest we've ever seen on a menu. Please note we are on a budget and not wine snobs so I'm sure it was a cheap bottle. But still! $16.50! Deal of the century considering the glasses were $5/$6/$7 otherwise. I only marked them down a star because there was some confusion among what appeared to be the owner and the hostess when we walked in. He was incredibly rude to her, which was very uncomfortable for us. (Restaurant people: Do not yell at your staff in front of customers!) But other than that snafu, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back for more.

1st time visiting. Salad was a bit wilted - picked out the floppy stuff. Pizza was very good. Lasagna was OK. Service was pretty good, too. I'm not crazy about the cramped dining room, but some people like it (my wife and daughters did not). 1st issue was a long wait to pay the check. The server finally came back saying that they are having issues with the credit card machine and it'll be fixed soon. Another long wait and finally she said that they couldn't fix it and could only take cash. I didn't have cash, but I was willing to walk to the ATM a couple blocks away. Unfortunately the owner never acknowledged the problem or apologized or offered a discount or desert or whatever. Just ignored us. My issues -#1 wilted salad, #2 walk to ATM without acknowledgement, #3 my wife and I both got sick later that night (we shared lasagna) girls were fine with pizza.

Came here once after having just moved to Brighton. We sat on the tiny little patio off to the side out front as we brought our pooch with us. Service was prompt and the waitress was nice. Overall the food is just meh. Tastes like something anyone could cook at home. It's definitely gotta be one little old lady in the back cooking stuff she was raised on. Nothing was bad, but nothing was outstanding. If you're in the mood for decent Italian on a budget, this is your place. They've got some desserts you can just walk in and order too. Props to them for friendliness; once I ordered from another restaurant and realized I forgot to get ranch. I walked across the tracks from our condo and they hooked me up with a cup of it for 50 cents without looking at me like I was insane for asking.

I have been going to Buon Gusto for years and it reminds me of my mothers kitchen. It is a small corner bistro reminiscent of many in Italy. It is family owned and operated. Mama cooks and Papa runs the store and the kids help out too. Most if not all the food is made 'a la carte' and they will customize it to your heart's content. If you don't like what's on the menu just ask, I am sure that they can make something that you will enjoy. They typically feature specialties from Mid to Southern Italy and Sicily. Portions are large and generally a good value. Much better and less expensive than the two neighboring fancier Italian restaurants on Main Street. The biggest drawback is the size of the restaurant. If the patio is closed it is sometimes difficult to find a seat inside. Definitely save room for desert the Italian pastries are wonderful!
(5)N C.
I've given them 4 stars because the food is amazing. I tell people, of all the Italian restaurants on Main Street (and there are a lot) BG is the best. BUT.... And it's a big one... The service has gotten VERY slow. Although we tried to be patient (because the food is that good) the people seated behind us got up and left.

If I ever wanted to give 3 1/2 stars, this would be the time. Buon Gusto is amazing inside. The decor puts you in a different world. It's really nice. If you didn't know any better, you'd think the street outside was in a quaint Italian town. For that, I give it 5 stars. But....the food.....it IS good. But it's not great. I will go back, and I will enjoy it. However, some of the dishes can be rather...cater-ish? In other words, I have had some meals that tasted like catered food. But....the food...can be great. I have had some meals here that were unbelievably good. If you are in the mood for Italian, and are tired of wherever it is you go, give Buon Gusto a try. You won't be disappointed. If you are, I give you 1/2 a star. If you're not, come back and write a 4 star review :)

We have been going here for years - absolutely love their Sunday brunch. During good weather enjoy sitting outside on the side patio. Also I had them cater my parents' 50th anniversary -outstanding. Everyone complimented the food.

I ate here recently for Sunday brunch while meeting up with two dear friends. The service was really warm and friendly. The food was good, but not kept very warm, so the french toast was a bit hard. Honestly, I was not there for the food, but for the company of my friends. The warmth of the staff would bring me back to try their Italian dishes during another visit to Brighton.

Great Italian! I love the ambiance, The squash raviolis are to die for!!

The restaurant has a great traditional feel to it, with great food, service, and atmosphere. Its downtown Brighton location is in close proximity to the boardwalk that runs about the water, which is a nice bonus. The food there was quite good. We only had the one dish, sharing it between us. They presented us with some bread, oil, and vinegar beforehand. It was nice to tide us over. Also went well with the wine. Speaking of which, their Pinot Grigio was very impressive. It was very smooth, flavorful, and went quite well with our carbonara-like dish. I owe it to myself to find out just what they served us... The staff is friendly and, perhaps all the better, very helpful; my girlfriend and I ended up splitting a dish per their advice. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and it was a busy night, weekend of the blues festival. We didn't wait to be seated, though we couldn't sit outside. I was happy nonetheless. The decor is very...traditional, a bit rustic. Though I have no experience in Italy firsthand, the restaurant is nearly taken out of a picture. Cute little corner place...I'd really like to see it in the early summer. Buon Gusto was a very pleasant surprise. I'd heard good things about it, but the actual experience surpassed what I'd read. The price is reasonable and the feel of the place is excellent. I look forward to returning.

Fantastic. Am from NJ where Italian restaurants rule. Best I've been to!

This place it GREAT if you want some amazing Italian food. The owners are very friendly and super personable. If you have special food preferences (gluten-free, vegetarian) they will do their best accommodating you. I love to come here in the spring and summer and eat outside on the patio. You really should save room for dessert too as they have some of the best (i think daily made) desserts. They also have a Sunday breakfast buffet! This is a downtown Brighton must visit!

Buon gusto serves the best authentic Italian food in the area. There is something for everyone at any time. The quality of the food can be measured by the kitchens preparation! It's a family run restaurant and you can certainly taste and feel the love. The desserts are fantastic. napoleons and canolis are my two favorites and those are made from their kitchen as well. Grab a panini for lunch, enjoy an espresso on your break and indulge yourself with some delicious classic dishes for dinner with excellent wine. Buon appetito!

Family-run Italian bistro in downtown Brighton, Buon Gusto is highly recommended for folks looking for huge portions. The chicken parmagiana and fettucini were drowned in a delicious marinara, and unfortunately due to the large portions, I wasn't able to try any of their desserts. Next time.

A colleague and I discovered Buon Gusto on a recent weekday afternoon. We were in town for business and found ourselves hungry for lunch. We walked up and down Main Street and settled on Buon Gusto because their menu featured gluten-free items. Our server was excellent and pointed out the items on the menu that were available in a gluten-free version. We eyed the salads, Lasagna, and Gnocchi and became even more aware of just how hungry we were. Not wanting to fill up too much at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, we decided to share the penne pasta in meat sauce. The kitchen gladly obliged and served us two individual salads while we waited for the pasta. As she served the salads, the server--unprompted--made certain to emphasize that the vinaigrette dressing was house-made and, therefore, the kitchen staff were able to guarantee that it was gluten-free. The iced tea was homemade and delicious. We were fortunate to have landed a corner table on the patio where other prime-time lunch diners still lingered while enjoying their coffee, conversation, and a pleasant afternoon Our gluten-free Penne Pasta dish arrived promptly - the parmesan cheese on the side per my colleague's request. (Yes, she's admittedly high maintenance.) No sooner had we devoured our entrée than the proprietor arrived at our table to ask how everything had been. Sylvia introduced herself while wiping her hands on her proverbial chef's apron. We told her how much we had enjoyed our meal. She was proud to share her cooking stories. We were a receptive audience and before too long we were sharing the names of our favorite local shops for buying gluten-free ingredients. We learned of the subtle differences in preparation of the gluten-free traditional versus chocolate Tiramisu. After a few more exchanges of mutual appreciation, Sylvia excused herself to return to the kitchen to get ready for the dinner service. We left Buon Gusto with full bellies and a carry-out serving of the chocolate Tiramisu. We decided that we'd be back soon with bigger appetites for dinner and a little bit more time to linger with an Espresso.
