It was hard to give 3-4 stars. I love the nostalgia of everything that is Sanders and its proud Detroit heritage. The Sundaes, the ice cream, candy and Bumpy Cake. The stores and their soda fountains disappeared ages ago. Glad they're coming back. The service is slow at this location.

After getting brunch, we wanted something cold to satisfy our souls. Saw Sanders and decided to give it a try. Can't really tell if it's more expensive compared to Stone Cold, Oberweis, or any other Dairy Places out there but they for sure give you bigger scoops than anyone else can. Tried the Bumpy Cake ice cream and it was delicious! So good that I finished the whole one scoop that I ordered and that is interesting considering that I never finish all of my ice cream. But this place is cool. Has a retro feel to it and you can also purchase souvenirs and all sorts of chocolate in this store. Worth the check out.

I really love Sander's Chocolates so I came here to pick up some gifts for a friend. While I was there I also treated myself to some pistachio ice cream in a waffle cone. To my dismay it tasted like frost bite. The ice cream was obviously old. Just stick to the chocolates!

After having brunch next door at Mad Hatters Bistro, we decided to go to Sanders for some ice cream. The bumpy cake ice cream was delicious! I got a cup and couldn't manage to finish it because I was so full. Service was average.

I have no idea why this place has such amazing reviews. We had the most horrible experience. There was no coffee in the coffee, just milk. And so much sugar. The cups were dirty. We had to drive to Tin Hortons to satisfy our coffee craving and a quick fix. I don't think we ll ever go here again.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon. I like the location of this store. It is in the center of Birmingham. You can sit next to the window seat where you can see people walking by and enjoy the sun when the weather is nice. This place offers chocolate, coffee tea, cake, ice cream, etc. I chose to order the chocolate mint ice cream. I LOVE IT!. I can really taste the freshness of the mint flavor and the chocolate chips are delicious. It is not too sweet nor too creamy It is just right. The places also offer other flavors including bumpy cake, rocky mountain, rainbow, vanilla, etc. I would definitely come back for the quality of ice cream.

You have to try a Sanders Candy Malt store in Michigan! The one in Birmingham is right in the tourist area off Old Woodward. You can access souvenirs like mugs, and many collectibles. Goodies like cakes, chocolate (all sorts and sizes) , candy, coffee, specialty drinks, ice cream, smoothies, and so many other Malt shop items. The feel and vice is retro and the quality is great, we always enjoy our visit here and the unique platform Sanders offers.

Who does NOT love a good old fashioned hot fudge sundae? We popped in here on a wonderfully temperate Saturday afternoon to stock up on some Easter candy when I heard the carmel sauce beckoning to me. Being an obedient and loyal Sanders junkie I of course obliged and shared a wonderfully scrumptious sundae with my husband. Neither of us were hungry however neither of us left a drop in the dish. Yum-o!!! I highly recommend a sundae with a mix of both hot fudge and caramel. You can not go wrong with that marriage. Why not 4 stars? Service was nothing special. The girls behind the counter were pleasant but nothing exceptional. I was also disappointed that this location did not offer a military discount. The one in the mall did. The least you can do is discount the hot fudge for the men and women who valiantly defend our country, right? Nonetheless the sundae was still fabulous and you can count on us returning!

Yay for this location! So happy to see Sanders making their way back into so many neighborhoods. Always a pleasure to see another new location (like Great Lakes Crossing as well!). Popped in here on a Saturday night after dinner nearby and had a glorious treat. I felt like going kind of simple and went with the basic one scoop sundae with the extra dark chocolate fudge topped with whipped cream and a sprinkles. I'm not going to lie--sometimes whipped cream makes me happier than ice cream. It's just so light, sweet and creamy! As for the ice cream--I've always been a huge fan of Sanders ice cream. It's just rich enough and smooth but not terribly sweet. Coupled with the slightly bitter chocolate fudge and I was in heaven! My friend and fella got themselves one of their special sundaes--an opening day sundae topped with their version of cracker jacks. So great as well! It's not a huge space but they have a decent amount of seating. We went on a chilly day so it wasn't packed in there but I can see it getting mighty crowded on a warm day. Plenty of their chocolate treats and caramels to take home as well (boxed and otherwise), jarred fudge, plus--BUMPY CAKE! Next time I will definitely be getting one to take home. And a hot fudge cream puff to boot. Yessssss. Huzzah! So happy to have you around town, Sanders!

Yay!!!!! Sanders has been a Detroit staple for over 50 years!! Cream puff hot fudge, malts, candies everything the "old" locations had EXCEPT sandwiches and soups... God I wish they would start serving food again! The owner of this location is the nicest person in the world!! It's exceptionally clean, the staff are all super nice and I love that your looking at the candies and they ALWAYS ask if you would like to try them before you buy it!!

I don't know when this Sanders location snuck into downtown Birmingham, but I'll gladly rejoice its presence. After a recent dinner my friends and I took it to the streets to find a delicious dairy dessert. I have had a fondness for Sanders since my childhood (as I'm sure many Michiganders have); from Bumpy Cake to their unique hot fudge sauce, there's something magical about Sanders. Being a Friday night, it was remarkably quiet evening in the shop. Perhaps the unattended teenyboppers that generally take control of the downtown Birmingham were still stuck in their B Grade comedy entertainment at the Palladium? After perusing the ice cream cases the flier for the Pumpkin Pie Cream Puff. I was sold. I have a profound weakness for seasonal foods. And delicious things--it was a match made in Heaven. Served with a paper cone of ice water (just as I remember from childhood visits to the one in Grosse Pointe--now the Caribou), what more could a boy want? Especially since the soda jerk (not really a jerk) was ever so kind to use half hot fudge and half caramel on my sundae. Picture it: a fresh cream puff sliced, filled with a scoop of cream pumpkin pie flavored ice cream, topped with whipping cream, hot fudge (and caramel!) and a cherry. The Sanders store had refrigerator cases of a variety of their patented Bumpy Cakes and several gift boxes of hot fudge and chocolates, including their to die for Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Caramels. There was also a lovely display of foil wrapped chocolate Turkeys. I won't lie, I kind of wanted to take them all home with me. What's more fun than a chocolate turkey? I made a personal note to include Sanders as a place for a quick gift chock full of local flavor. And yet still the best part of the trip was picking up the brochure that Sanders offers a tour of their factory! Apparently in 2002 Sanders joined forces with Morley's Chocolates and they offer a tour at their factory out Hall Rd and Garfield way. The tour allegedly includes an 18 minute video and 20 minutes in the observation hallway and most importantly free chocolate samples. I cannot wait to go. They had better have Schnozzberry wallpaper. And oversized gummy bears.* *I am aware that Sanders and Morley's have no connection to Willy Wonka, but I'd like to imagine they'd keep up with the competition, I mean, who wouldn't?

YUMMY! For Michiganders, you know Sanders-delicious rich hot fudge and caramel and the famous bumpy cake. Here you can sit at the counter and get ice cream, cake, coffee, desserts, candy, or any combination of the above. They also sell boxed candies and full bumpy cakes. My husband and I enjoyed the Bumpy Cake Bliss with vanilla ice cream, sanders carmel, on top of a big piece of bumpy cake. Satisfied my sweet craving indeed! One of the handful of Michigan things I really miss!
