I don't understand the fascination with Panera. Yes they have a lot of options (especially if you are not a vegetarian) but it's a chain and it's not completely "healthy food". Plus price is average for what you get. They have decent soups (I like the tomato) and the veggie sandwich is standard and unexciting. Oherwise I would expect much more vegetarian selection and more variety in flavors in the vegetarian options. I'd give Panera as a chain three stars because they should do more for those who are vegetarians and especially more with labeling items for those who have food allergies or concerns such as gluten sensitivity. I found that their website is way below average for other chains in making this information easily accessible. This location is nice because it's well lit and has a lot of space. The service here is average but not rude. There are a lot of great options in the area so for me I'd only go here if we have a large group that wants a comfortable environment to sit and chat.

This Panera Bread is fabulous! I'm always greeted with a smile by the order takers and the entire staff is so friendly. The food is absolutely delicious--I wish they still had the autumn squash soup--perfect blend of sweet and savory. The chicken caesar salad sandwich is also part of my regular order (even though I don't think they list this on the menu). The lobby area is perfect for chatting, working, or people watching and the free wi-fi is always a plus. I'll be a regular for sure. Keep up the great work!

This Panera location is usually pretty good. I go here before movies at the Palladium or Birmingham 8. Panera is not my favorite chain because it's pretty expensive, but the food is always good - I get the cuban sandwich w/ no cheese or mayo (to save some calories) OR the Asian chicken salad. The pick 2 is good also, which I sometimes get - with the cuban sandwich and chicken noodle soup. I was here last Monday and they were running out of TP in the bathroom which wasn't great, but I've been here multiple times and that's not usually the case. I'd like to try their new pasta entrees but they're like $9.99 for a large or $8.99 for a small, which is a lot, IMO.

We went there at the closing time on a Saturday night and got great service even if they wanted to lock the doors behind us. They had food put away but served its with a smile. Now that's good customer service. And i love the food there. It is fresh and good for you. Very home style. Recommend greatly.

Been here twice, and both visits had been awesome. My husband and I left each time with a feeling of wanting to be back there again sometime real soon, very much attributed to the friendly team of employees with their all-time great service and of course their consistent food quality, all reasonably priced. We had tried the roasted turkey and avocado BLT, asiago roast beef, roasted turkey artichoke and the bacon turkey bravo so far. They were all perfectly made each time, and having the "You Pick 2" is always a plus - more options! We had frequented other franchises elsewhere, but this by far the best Panera for us!

I would love to be able to comment on the food or service, but I can't. I spent twenty minutes of my lunch break circling three blocks around the restaurant looking for parking, to no avail. My entire break was a waste. This place might be convenient for lunch if you work in the area and are able to walk there, but since the building lacks dedicated parking this is not a place you can drive to for a quick bite during lunch.

Great food, Dumb staff! It's a chain so it's pretty consistent! The bathrooms are filthy and it's not really that clean inside

While I do not go to Panera because I am looking for something fantastic, I am never let down eating here. It's my go to place in downtown Bham when I'm unsure what I want.

Okay, this is a STUPID alert. I purchased a bagel and paid 1.37. Twenty minutes later, I went back to purchase another one. My card was declined (me thinks not with $1700 in the account and confirmed by my bank). Tried it again on another machine declined one more time. I went down the street, withdrew money (but wait my card was declined) and paid cash. I inquired to the management regarding how their machine works regarding card swipes, etc. He mentioned that as a safety measure to the card customer, if the individual comes back and the dollar purchase is the same as the previous one, then as a "safety measure" that transaction is not honored. However, he stated where a customer increased the dollar value of their purchase, then the transaction is honored. I told him that was the most stupid thing I ever heard. So folks, make sure if you got back to purchase another bagel, make it two instead of one or the card swipe will decline your card. Utterly stupid.

Yeah i know most ppl know about Panera's but i have to show my love for the place. ;-) Its located right across the street from the COSI on Old Woodward Ave in downtown B-ham. Since i work in downtown Birmingham this place is my safe place when i just can't think of anywhere to eat and nothing is sounding good. I know I'm going to get a great sandwich and for a reasonable price. I'm a sucker for the Chipotle Chicken (All-natural pepper-mustard chicken, smoked bacon, smoked cheddar, tomatoes & ancho-chipotle spread). The service at this Panera is always top notch when i go (which is one a week). Since i seem to always order a panini, i like mine grilled well. So i ask them to leave it on a little longer and they do!

This Panera location is great. I've tried two entrees there: chicken soup in a bread bowl (excellent! And piping hot!) and a toasted bagel with cream cheese (also amazing)! Their orange juice is the best orange juice I've ever tasted! Ever!

I'm a big Panera fan because their food is consistent, there are healthy choices and I can get my work done somewhere other than home. I particularly enjoy this Birmingham location because they have a couple outdoor tables and it's nice to sit outside and people watch.

Great for lunch on a weekend, but know that it's a kid magnet, and therefore can be a little noisy. Reasonably priced. Love their paninis, their greek salad, and their creamy tomato soup. Also like their "pick two" option, where you can combine a sandwich with a soup or a salad. Also am a fan of their iced green tea (pretty sweet, but I like it)
