Seriously, someone could rate this a 4 star? The menus need to be wiped off. Am gluten and egg free, but fruit is always an option? I should have posted a photo of the old grapes and some melon that looked like it had been in the refrigerator for 3 days at least. Finally, a trip to the restroom that looked (and felt when I opened the stall door) like it had been wiped down with the same dirty water over and over. I can't see what the fuss is about. The place needs a good clean and a make-over. There are so many other places that are so interesting in Birmingham without spending a lot of money.

This place still rocks! Same excellent and consistent Coney food - best I've tried in the region.

My all time favorite greek/coney restaurant. The large special salad comes with best homemade greek dressing I've ever had. The size of salad is huge and we always have leftovers for next day.

The hummus is tangy and good. The chicken Philly pita is a winner. Good service and good diner atmosphere. One of the better "coneys" in the area.

Best Greek Salad on Earth. Quick and cheap. Best coney place.

My friend and I went after our movie around 8:48 pm. I personally didn't know that they closed at 9 (what coney place closes before 10?). Our server was AMAZING. She made sure that we got what we wanted and didn't rush us. BUT the manager honestly made me mad. She kept making sly remarks about how she wanted the waitress to "stop saying 'take your time'" and dismissed these young girls who just wanted fries at about 8:52 p.m. I completely understand that she had probably been there all day but don't be rude about making people leave. Your official closing time is at 9PM so act like it. Other than that, I have no complaints. My wings were AMAZING :)

I absolutely love this place. Great coney food, great service and CLEAN! I've been many times, but this last visit was review-worthy. Bringing my 10-month old, the waitress was wonderful . . . Brought him oyster crackers, which he loved! Now even my babe is a fan. See you soon, Greek Isles!

The table was sticky, the tuna sandwich was dry, the fries were overdone, the coffee was weak (in a diner!), and they had a no-substitutes policy for breakfast meat when my veggie wife asked for fruit instead. But our sever Tina was very nice; she snuck my wife some fruit and made sure my daughter got extra chocolate chips in her pancakes.

I have been to this location several times over the last several years; but not since I've been a Yelper. I came recently with my sister and the experience was less than good. Firstly, God help you if you show up at lunchtime. The place is packed, barely standing room, angry servers weave through people and grumble all the way, and it's REALLY loud. It was an ADD nightmare and I felt like there wasn't enough Concerta in the world to help me concentrate. Secondly, our server was unfriendly - like brusque, not nice and generally unavailable to us. I couldn't get a refill if I tried. In fact, all employees I came in contact with were unfriendly. I can understand a busy lunch can be stressful, but it's just not a nice atmosphere. Thirdly, I ordered a greek salad with chicken and asked if I could have it chopped and her response was, "they won't do that." The whole time my sister and I just looked around in awe at how crazy, loud and unfriendly it was. I probably won't be back.

Love love love this place. Have been going for years. Yes, it's loud and super busy at lunchtime - but that's because it's so damn good. They offer all of your basic stuff that you'd expect - plus raw juice, which is pretty cool (they have an actual juicer right there and will juice veggies and fruit to order). My favorite is the greek salad. They offer a "regular" Greek dressing and a low-fat Greek dressing. Both are DEELISH. The place is in Birmingham but leave your stilettos and your attitude at home. This is a true, bare bones coney so go enjoy!

I've been coming to this place for years and it is definitely a classic. It isn't going to win any Michelin Stars, but they give you solid coney/Greek/standard diner fare for a reasonable price within walking distance to Woodward and downtown Birmingham (literally 50 yards from the Palladium movie theater). Perfect place to grab a low-key meal!

If my review was based on the food and service I would give it 5 stars. They only get 3 because they will NOT give you the wifi code. PU-LESE, really? There are so many other places I can go who will let me use their wifi. Bye bye Greek Isles.

One of my favorite places, ever! Classic diner. Great food. The owner is there all the time & he really cares about customers.

I'd always seen such huge crowds in this place, and I was hoping this was justified. Well...it is ok. I tried the spinach pie, Greek salad, and tzatziki. The spinach pie was lots of spinach with little cheese. It was just fine, but not spectacular. The Greek salad (with the pink dressing) was pretty average, though the beets were nice and thick. The tzatziki was par for the course. The service was sort of snarky and curt. The maitre'd-ish sort of guy was not friendly at all. But it was quick, for what it's worth. They acted like they were slammed even though it was not busy. This is in stark contrast to those Coneys where they treat you like family. If you want spinach pie after seeing a movie at the Palladium, well, fine. But I wouldn't recommend driving out of the way for this. It is, however, a HELL of a lot better than Leo's!

So you know that feeling after a long weekend ...that dull headache and slight dehydration that has you craving bacon and orange juice. You go to your fridge and it's empty or you don't have the energy to scramble those eggs and pull out your frying pan. Well, Greek Islands to the rescue...err at least to satisfy your craving for breakfast! Greek Islands offers standard Coney Island fare, ranging from flaming cheese to piping hot coney's to pancakes and omelette's. The food is good and even though the place is usually packed, with two entrances you can almost always find a seat. I would have given this place 5 stars but our waitress was less than stellar and the parking is sparse (there's a structure next door and street level parking surrounding the building).

One of the best Coney Islands around. Their Grilled Chicken Pita is great-maybe the best I've had in town. The pita is thin and grilled to an almost crispy finish, the chicken is tender and juicy and I usually nix the mayo and sub in their Greek dressing which is also some of the best anywhere. Superb food and great service.

What a place !!! .... Sooo cozy !!... A very friendly staff... Delicious omlettes ...great tables by the window... Not to speak abt the lovely people of Birmingham visiting the place... Worth every cent !!!

Oh Coney...how I miss you. How come Michigan is the only place that can give me good Coney Island Grub? Every time I am back in Michigan I must eat here at least once. Their greek salad dressing the best in the area. I could eat it with a spoon. It is good on salad, french fries, to dip your sandwich in...it is good on everything!!! My sandwich of choice? The turkey melt. Simple yet so tasty. They are SUPER speedy...I mean by the time you are done ordering your food is on your table. Can't beat that. I am already counting down the days until I am back home for a week...i wonder how many times I will hit up Greek Islands! Can't wait!!!

Definitely the best coney spot in the area. Breakfast, coneys and Greek entrees are always good. Greek salad with chicken is the best around. I've literally bought their house dressing to take home with me. It's very flavorful and not oily like other coney restaurants. Staff varies, but generally very polite. Weekend evenings it can get a little crowded with middle/high school kids going to the movies, so be prepared. I was one of them once though, so try to give them a break :)

Service was slow, inattentive, and almost rude. Food came to the table still frozen in the middle. Instead of replacing it they took it back and obviously microwaved it. Food tasted lousy, definitely very low quality ingredients. And the final cherry on top came much later that night when the FOOD POISONING set in. When I called the next day they hardly even seemed to care. I guess a convenient location means you can serve unsafe food and not care? Low quality is one thing, but clearly someone is violating some health codes back in the kitchen. Eat here at your own peril.

Meat grapes leaves are huge and awesome. I usually get the regular greek salad w/ chicken. Great pepperocinis.

RUDE AND SLOW. Over 5 min before someone said hi to me. Watched my waitress sit in a booth to talk to her friends before talking to me. Ordered a coney and was told "you just ordered the most disgusting thing on the menu". You are a coney island! That's what I want! I've never had this experience EVER IN MY LIFE. Never again.

  • Jason S.

This is really hard to review because after all, it's a coney island. How bad can it possibly be? Rather than tell you what's good or bad about Greek Islands, I'll just rate the local coney islands (Oakland County) from best to worst: 1. National Coney Island (coney perfection) 2. Leo's Coney Island (an old favorite, but not quite as good as National) 3. Greek Islands Coney Island (not bad and truthfully its almost a tie with Leo's. Its kind of like a Ford/Chevy debate... both are good, but its a matter of personal preference). 4. Kerby's Coney Island (chewy hot dog casings are gross) 5. Athens Coney Island (terrible chili) I don't have too many bad things to say about Greek Islands. I just happened to grow up eating at Leo's in Birmingham, so that's my favorite between the two Coney Islands. On the other hand, Greek Island's has a Greek version of Da Vinci's Last Supper, except Zeus is eating coneys with the other Gods, so that's a +1 over Leo's. Take that for what its worth...

S - is for the smile I get when it's time for Greek Islands M - is for the many good dishes there are to order (besides the Small Special) like Tzatziki Sauce, Chili Cheese Coney, Chili Cheese Fry, and Chicken Finger Pita A - is for the grade they get for cleanliness! They even wash their menus! L - is for Large Special - a good deal if there is more than one with this order! L - is also for Low Fat Dressing. It's totally fabulous. S - is for Saganaki - OPA! P - is for pita. Ask for it steamed!! E - is for extraordinary: put some Tzatziki on the steamed pita and then some salad (with the dressing) - Perfection. C - is for coney. They not so surprisingly, have fantastic ones. I - is for the only person who is allowed to eat my salad A - is for always. Greek Islands is always this good L - is for L-O-V-E. I promise, the Small Special is made for me and you!!!!

Okay, sure, a coney is a coney is a coney. And to be honest, I didn't even have a coney here. But this place has the feel of an old school diner or lunch counter -- which, if you've ever been to a real one, you know they're pretty darn cool. I stopped in here for a quick lunch, and, being on a diet (well, at that moment, I was) I was looking for something healthy. The classic "light plate" (or something along those lines) might sound unappealing to some -- it was a grilled turkey patty and a cup of cottage cheese -- it was heaven to me. The turkey patty was realllllly good! Okay, so maybe that's because it was grilled on a flat top covered in grease, but hey, what're you gonna do? And the cottage cheese was fresh and good quality. But the real reason Greek Islands charmed me was the fact that the man sitting next to me struck up a conversation. That kind of thing can be annoying, but this guy was really friendly. We bantered with the waitresses, who were also really friendly, and I came away from my lunch feeling... I don't know... connected to humanity or something. Like, hey, people don't suck. And maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see myself getting that feeling from a Leo's or a National.

Hmmm. Had high hopes for my first experience at Greek Islands. Our neighbor in Birmingham swears its better than Leos. Sorry. That hype didn't live up. I went there with my mom, dad and husband. My dad and I both ordered gyros. Meat was good. Pita was fresh, but the cucumber sauce was tasteless. My mom ordered a grilled chicken pita. The chicken strips were plentiful, but tasteless. What's worse is that it wasn't even warm. When we brought this to the attention to our waitress she said, "Oh, don't tell me. The cooks only yell at us." What? She advised to talk to "the guy in the light blue shirt." So, I took a moment when paying the bill to share this with this alleged manager. I explained we enjoyed the gyros, but that my mom's chicken pita was tasteless and wasn't even warm. It was like he took offense to it. Whatever. There's plenty of restaurants to choose from in Birmingham. Goto Leo's Coney Island. Their food is consistently excellent. Leo's Greek Salad includes kalamata olives. Greek Islands didn't have any olives. Anyhow, hope this review is helpful. Its not my intention to bash any restaurants in Birmingham. I live here and want the downtown to flourish. But if restaurant managers aren't receptive to input from their patrons, they won't get my business. Happy dining.

Every city in Michigan has a coney, and well..Birmingham has two. It's great for a quick bite (and emphasis on quick, its like they know what you want before you order it) before the movies, or for a night cap. Inexpensive salads, sandwiches, your typical coney fare. And Sarah is right, their dressing is amazing, the perfect blend of spices and tartness.

A Detroit staple, the coney island is a rare breed. A good one is even rarer-er. The choices seem overwhelming: National, Leo's, Kirby's, etc. etc. Thankfully, you've stumbled upon the best coney in the area. Or at least it's Yelp! review. The Chicken Greek Salad ("Special") is very good and the notes on the dressing are accurate: it's good but I wouldn't venture to say homemade, all natural or anything like that. I'm sure it comes out of a big industrial tub. But the tub's good. I grew up frequenting National Coney Island and I ate more Hani's than any sane teenager should. They were my favorite... and G.I. just scooped them. Greek Islands has the best chicken pita, available in grilled or breaded chicken, it's tasty as it gets. Great lunch spot, quick and efficient, friendly staff, breakfast anytime. Said simply, my favorite coney.

This is still the best coney island in the area. The Chicken Greek salad is the best. I could almost eat this every day.

Been going here for a very long time, and this is THE BEST Greek restaurant in Birmingham. Now I know, that's a pretty good rating, but they deserve it. When you walk in the door, you can go seat yourself, and then they show you the menus (which they WASH, for all you germaphobes). YES, they have stereotypical Greek food, like coneys, gyros and Greek salads. NO, it's not boring and mundane and it DEFINITELY is special and different.

I love their Pastitsio. Great greek salad. Great coney! This place is a staple place to eat in b-ham.

  • Toni C.

I walked into this place thinking that it was going to be just like any other Greek coney place and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have more actual Greek food on the menu aside from the usual Greek salad, spinach pie and Gyros. I got some Mousaka which was very good. They have a meat and vegetarian version. They have a few other Greek entree's and a selection of apps aside from just flaming cheese (which I do love don't get me wrong). I'll be wanting to go to the movies more often now just so I can go here before hand.

They have fast, friendly service. The food is good and the prices are really reasonable. You can have breakfast anytime which is a plus for me.

Why is there a Coney Island on every corner in Metro Detroit? I don't think other cities are saturated with so many heart attack inducig Coney Islands. Greek Island has an acceptable grade of grub. It's not the best food I've ever had, but it's probably one of the better coney islands. It's clean, and the pancakes and french toast are especially good. The perk is that it's a total B'ham scene - great for people watching especially when the douche bags come from church on Sundays with their ill-behaved brats!

If you went to Birmingham Schools or anywhere in the surrounding area, then you should know of the FAMOUS "Greek Islands Special." The greek dressing says it all, but note: if you have a date later that night... lay off the dressing because you WILL be burping up garlic for a large portion of the night. Since the good old days, prices have been rising, but that's the price you pay for the prime location in the heart of Bham. Lunch hour can be a little hectic, but it never takes long for a seat. If it looks like it may be an eternity until you're seated, think again. You typically get your food in 10 minutes or less... and boy oh boy is it the special goodness.

Best lemon rice soup in the Detroit metro area. Green beans are fantastic. Michigan Greek salad is awesome.

This place is my "in a pinch" location when the Pancake House has that hour wait. Food is okay (although I recently had an omelette there and it was nearly burnt). Pancakes were ok, etc. Overall it is an ok spot.

I come here often with my always-hungry kids. They eat what they're served without whining (hurray!), and I can find vegetarian options so I don't have to whine either. This place is speedy, and the location is great.

I've eaten at Greek Islands a hundred times over the last five years. The ingredients are fresh and the service is great. It's one of the best deals in Birmingham. Get the special salad.
