Great breads and muffins. They have little bits of the day's special on the front counter to entice you and it truly does entice. I only make it out there about once a month but I always buy more than I can reasonably use (the spinach feta bread is yummy!) but I discovered that they keep well in the fridge. Currently, I've got the Cinnamon Swirl and Cheddar Garlic in there though the Cinnamon Swirl won't be there much longer. By the way, they slice the bread for free.

I've been a fan of their bread since I tried them last summer at the Birmingham Farmers Market. This morning I tried one of their muffins and a bar thingy that was loaded with fresh blueberries. They were both amazing and I am going back tomorrow to get the exact same ones!

Absolutely fantastic bread. Better than Zingermans and a little different too. If you are thinking of visiting, make the trip. You will not be disappointed. The staff is fun and friendly and knows a ton about the product. This store is under newer ownership and from what I've tasted they are a much improved store.

Great Harvest Bread is one of those places that makes moving to a new town feel like home. Although it's a chain, each GHB I've ever been to has a small-town feel about it. I've been to their bakeries in Bozeman, Montana, East Lansing, and Burlington, Vermont. Great Harvest makes the best honey wheat bread I have ever tasted. And it's good no matter the location you visit. The breads are made from whole grains and simple ingredients in an earnest, wholesome, low-tech way. The resulting loaves are superbly dense, filling, and full of amazing flavor that is downright delectable when toasted and buttered with real cow's milk butter. Although I often use it to make sandwiches at home, I love taking the honey wheat bread, which I get thick sliced, and using it to make French Toast, or to grill it and brush it with a mix of organic honey, real butter, and a dash of orange zest. It makes for an amazing snack with some fresh fruit. Their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are also amazing stuff. The employees at this Birmingham location are incredibly sweet, and the bakery has a lovely open floor plan so you can see the whole bakery. Be sure to ask for a sample of any of their breads in display with a large tub of real butter. And for those hygiene freaks among you ... the whole place is sparkling clean. I'd eat off the floor. Yes - it's that clean. :-) If you want amazing bread - venture no farther. You've found grain heaven.

I've never before been this excited about bread! I work across the street from here and a co-worker and I usually go for daily bread runs. I never thought that regular ass bread could be so delicious! The staff is friendly and if you ask them what's in the bread you're eating they know it exactly. The only thing I don't like is that the bread flavors get rotated daily/monthly so your favorite type may not be available when you get there.

This place is GREAT. I've completely stopped buying bagged bread at the grocery store and rely solely on Great Harvest Bread Co. every week. The employees are always in a great mood and are more than willing to help you out & give you free samples. Their bread is reasonably priced, as well. Definitely recommend this place for all your bread buying needs ;)

My British genetics predispose me to love bread so much it hurts. The wafting scent of a baked loaf emerging from the oven immediately kicks out enough endorphins to raise my mood several notches. On a bad day or a terrible week, just walking in here has the effect of loosening the tension in my shoulders. Great Harvest Bread Company is a regular fixture at my beau's family dinners and picnics, and I was inducted as a devotee with their buttery challah, their cranberry- and cherry-studded buns, and intriguing combinations like cinnamon swirl. They do traditional loaves and specialty seasonal and holiday flavours, and I have yet to find one that failed to hit the spot. Black Irish soda bread for Saint Patrick's Day is just the thing to go with a hearty stew. The decadent pesto cheese loaf makes the perfect pairing for al fresco Italian dining. Honey wheat is an all the time treat, and Great Harvest would make a convert out of Cookie Monster for his new favourite snack. If we had one in Ferndale, I would roll in there every morning and come away clutching my prized loaf like the crown jewels of the Netherlands. Loaves range from $4 to $8, including free slicing with every purchase. Take advantage of the time to glance through the pastry case and ogle the giant rice krispie squares, tarts, and selection of muffins and dessert bars. My secret weakness, enhanced by intense cravings and hunger, are the cheese sticks. Just one won't satisfy you, and unlike Lay's potato chips, the consequences for eating several include a long nap and groans of satisfaction. The friendly staff will happily ply you with samples of their morsels of the day. Be sure to try any of their seasonal offerings, as some are simply sensational and may change your purchase decision. Why get a dark wheat loaf when you could have something bursting with Michigan fruit or nuts? I might drop a star for their hours and how fast they sell out. Don't come in the mid-afternoon or else you shall be left with the remnants after a hungry crowd in the know trots through. Try calling ahead to reserve what you want if you know you can't get in until 2:30 PM onward. Mornings on a Saturday can be a complete madhouse. But then, it's not GHBC's fault they are a victim of their own delicious, delicious success.

Oh my word- the salted, caramel, oatmeal cookie is the most ridiculously delicious cookie invented. It's thin, chewy, density appeals to my teeth while the mix of sweet and salt appeals to my taste buds. A+

This is my favorite Great Harvest location in the metro-Detroit area. I like the friendly employees and I also find that their bread and baked goods selection is the best.

My favorite bread place. They have bread out so you can taste the flavor you're interested in. Fresh, great bread.

Gluten free bread is NOT gluten free!! Made on site and in same pans as gluten products. Get off the band wagon so you don't make people sick!!!

ummmm....how can I be the first person to review this place? Have you been there? It's a utopia of fresh baked bread, hippies, the most scrumptious muffins and magical morsels called "Savannah Bars". There are always samples of the breads they make daily (there are the basics they make daily but special ones too), every person working there wears their tie-dyed shirts and yoga pants well while maintaining a laid-back, friendly approach to helping you pick the perfect loaf of bread. They also offer me a dog treat every time they spy our crazy puppy waiting for us in the car. I should also mention that this particular GHBC is located next to a bagel place that makes excellent bagels but some of the worst baked goods I have ever had. I don't know if that makes their oat bran muffins with fresh blueberries in them 1000% better, but it can't hurt. So the bread is amazing, the service is great but why do I really go there? These amazing gifts from above called "Savannah Bars". You have a crumbly brown-sugary platform for tart raspberries, peaches and other fresh fruit that's been baked on top. They are simply AMAZING every time. Whatever bread you are eating, it is woefully inadequate compared to what they're making. Skip the grocery store next time and pop in to the Great Harvest Bread Company (and grab a Savannah bar if there's one left!). (P.S. They're not open Sunday's so don't get desperate for a muffin and go next door!)
