definitely the rudest waitresses... also the wifi is somewhat stupid to get on... have some variety in local brews but not too much... the food is ok though... also the indoors setting is pretty nice for a sports bar...

Great atmosphere...tons of TV's! The shish kabobs were amazing, as was the broccoli slaw! Much better than any of the chain restaurants in the vicinity. The featured "Michigan" items are excellent as well.

I come to the red ox quite often. They have really good food, phenomenal pizza. They have these amazing bread sticks that aren't on the menu, you have to ask for them. Make sure you get the cream cheese dip with them. They also have an excellent beer menu, and a decent cocktail menu that includes martinis and specialty drinks. The only issue I have with this place, and the reason for the 3 stars, is the service. The hostesses are never friendly. They never greet you when you walk in, usually I have to say hello to them after getting the blank stare from them as if they have no idea what I've come for. Every time we come, our waitress sucks. The wait staff usually lacks personality. Last time we went we had a girl who literally did not smile one time or try to be the least bit personable. She did the bare minimum, checked on our food and drinks. She was average. The girl we kept getting before her was brutal. She would literally not even check on us after serving us, but just walk by us and check out our table and make her own decision on how she thought we looked. If our drinks were half full she wouldn't stop over. The only waitress there who is any good is Tara, you should ask for her if you ever go. She is super friendly and makes you feel completely welcome and comfortable. The worst part about this place is the manager... at least I think he's the manager. He is a 40ish year old dude who wears tight shirts and has spiky blonde hair. He is extremely arrogant and rude. He refused to turn the hockey game on their main TV by our table because "that TV is only for music videos". I've never had a restaurant refuse to turn a channel on a TV before, especially when a major sporting event was on and we couldn't see it from where we were sitting. Will continue to come back for the food and drinks, but don't expect any exemplary service from anybody except Tara, if you're lucky enough to get her as a server.
(3)Mike S.
Ok service forgettable food decent prices when you can't remember this place and you work down the road that says something. The beer selection is fantastic lots of Michigan beers which is always a bonus. Bells hopslam , lagunita's sucks, griffin claw norms raggedy ass IPA

I just tried this place for the first time this evening. I ordered the "Grilled Chicken Cranberry Bleu - Crisp mixed greens, topped with grilled boneless chicken breast, tomato, cucumber, red onion, sun dried cranberries, gorgonzola crumbles and sweet roasted pecans. Served with our house made orange cranberry splash dressing" It was not good because the pecans had a thick candy coating that tasted strongly of maple and the orange cranberry dressing tasted like marmalade. I had to discard the pecans and the dressing and box up the salad till I came home and added slivered almonds and raspberry walnut vinaigrette. The service also wasn't very good. The server shrugged when I said I wasn't happy with the salad and she walked off, She didn't return until more than a half hour later with the bill and carryout containers. She didn't refill my drink or offer a refill. Later after the bills were paid and my colleagues and I sat there chatting, a man (perhaps from management) asked us about the quality of our meal. I complained regarding the dish and he apologized for it. I don't think I will be back. The other offerings on the menu didn't interest me either. It's not that it was bar food... it just wasn't anything exciting or special. I would put this restaurant in same category as Applebees or Fridays... but not as good as those even.

The Manager Joe Church is always very accomadating and helpfull. The wait staff is fantastic and definite professionals. My favorite bartender is Jon Rice. He makes the best drinks in town and is a great conversationalist. Great food and atmosphere. Worth checking out for sure.

This place is one of my staples due to location, beer selection, and a really good pizza. It's an all American bar and restaurant that offers everything but not everything is worth ordering. Here's what they do well: pizza, killer killer breadsticks with garlic cream cheese, beer selection, chicken kabobs, burgers, and their Cuban sandwich. It's mostly a sports bar with a flowing waterfall wall behind the bar, shuffleboard, keno, and a large covered patio with fire pit. It's good for happy hour, dinner, lunch, getting together to watch a game. It's terrible when it's karaoke night or a live band is playing. It can get annoying. Also right across the street from Oakland University and close to the freeway. Really can't go wrong with Red Ox for all your drinking and eating wants.
(3)Kelly O.
I've been here enough times recently for work lunches to give this a well-earned 3-star review. This is a big place outfitted with flat screen TVs all over the place. There is ample seating if you have a large party. There's also a shuffleboard table which is pretty cool. They have an awesome selection of beer that rotates, highlighting many of Michigan's local brews. The food generally sucks, unfortunately. It's just not good, and sometimes bordering on bad. However, the club sandwich seems like a safe bet... And I hear the pizza is good. Maybe I've just made bad choices? Service is friendly and it's a pretty fun place to hang out. I think if they improved the food quality a bit, it could sneak up to a 4-star place.
(3)Nadia M.
It has a great variety on the menu and at the bar, but was dissapointed in the quality of my food. I got the veggie panini and it was way to greasy to eat. It was all bread and cheese, barely any veggies. I had to pick it apart to eat. The spinich dip has a weird spice kick to it, I think it's horseraddish, I didn't like it. My mom got the fettuccine alfredo and added shrimp. To add shrimp it's a $6 up charge... which is pretty high for a bar and the shrimp was tiny and barely any in there. My Grandma got the rueben, and said it wasn't all that. Everything was ok, not good or great. The atmosphere and service is what kept this rating decent.
(2)Alex M.
Great bar/restaurant with plenty of seating both inside and outside. I always pick a burger off their specialty menu which is $10 (with waffle fries). Their pizzas are also fabulous and I plan on getting another one real soon.
(5)Saeed D.
They have lots of space but the night that i was there most of the tables where empty. I had one of the worst burgers of my life here. But the service was good and the waitress was very nice. Full bar and a normal selection of beer.
(2)Sharon M.
It's a nice place. Very reasonably priced and the food is fine. I've been there a few times for book club. I'm just not really excited about it. In fairness, it may be for a younger crowd. Lots of TVs and music. hut B the food is kinda mushy heavy and the furniture not so cozy. Meh for me.
(3)Daniel C.
Good food. Great selection. Pizza is very good. Empty, so it's easy to get a seat, but I don't see this place staying in business because it's off the path where people go. And, the food isn't amazing.
(3)Bill B.
I went here today for a team outing. This is a review for the food only (they had lots of beers but I didn't try any). I liked the broccoli slaw (nice balance between the broccoli, noodles, minced veggies and spices. The vegetable panini was pretty OK; the asparagus pieces were the highlight, the rest of it just melded together (mildly tasty but not the best I've had). The waffle fries needed work (or maybe they were just not my style). They weren't really warm and they were a bit too far to the chewy side of the crunchy and chewy continuum. Small food criticisms aside, the Red Ox is a good sports bar choice in the area, preferable to some other surrounding ones.
(3)K C.
This place was great at one time !!!!! I use to go there a lot but the menu needs to change somewhat. If they do this would be one of the best sports bars in a 15 mile radius .They burnt my salmon twice in a row but they did take it back . Oh ,Well !!! Cooks come and go. The ribs are good but not great .I've had better burgers at dive bars but they're better then some of the other so called sports bars in the area .What can I say that it's a sport bar not fine dinning but I'm sure you can find something to your liking. They do have (some) good food on the menu .Wait staff comes and goes ,so take it with a grain of salt. What you'll find here is a quit dinning area and a very large sports bar area with t.v.s everywhere with a large collage crowd. Music on Tuesday and Thursday by a great one man band and music and the weekends by some of the best local talents. Now that I've moved I truly missed the place burnt salmon and all.
(3)J D.
The service here is fast and friendly. The live music is usually good. The outdoor seating by the fire is amazing. Solid beer list. Other cocktails are pretty pricey. I've tried a few of their appetizers and the selection is good but none of them are stellar tasting. Generous portion sizes though.
(4)Brian L.
Great bar with a nice, friendly atmosphere. The nightly specials are usually a pretty good deal. The beer selection is good, not the biggest around, but still a decent size. The food is great, far better than the usual type food you find in a place that's more bar than resaurant. The kitchen stays open late as well, so there's food still coming out a 2 in the morning.
(4)Mike R.
Nice beer selection. Mediocre food. Hamburger with a stale bun. Cold fries. Mushy sweet potato fries. Wife's Cuban panini was excellent, however.
(3)Ryan D.
The waitress ashley was sooo snooty. The food was not bad at all... The atmosphere not bad at all... The crap service wrecks everything.
(2)Christine S.
I love Mondays!! Want to know why?? TRIVIA!! They have trivia night here every Monday night and I just love it. They also offer a pitcher of beer and pizza special as well. The waitresses have all been great and we have never had a bad time here. They have numerous beers on tap..just don't ask for a Black & Tan (it's yucky, they don't know how to make them). If you place in trivia, you get a gift card for Red Ox so that's a bonus!
(5)Mike H.
Great sports bar. Good for beers with friends or taking the family during the day. The staff is friendly and attentive. Wide variety of food options, good salads and sandwiches. Best thing, they get the general manager involved with any food allergy questions. My son has several allergies and they thoroughly reviewed the allergens and gave us food options for him.
(4)Amber L.
Amazing staff! I go in a lot for lunch with my husband and 6month son. They are very nice and friendly. The food is amazing. We always order burgers and waffle fries. The prices are very cheap for amazing food!!
(5)Matt S.
Good food and beer list. The trivia (Quizzo) is not as good as Sporcle, but still fun.
(3)Kris R.
This was my first time at Red Ox and I went here with coworkers on lunch and we waited almost an hour to eat. Our waitress was semi attentive and okay for handling so many folks at once. But her support staff was beyond rude.. And really they left me with the worst taste in my mouth. The seaters were laughing and whispering like they were in JR high and the wait staff who brought out the additional trays were rude beyond belief. I asked one of them to take away a plate and she said "who me?" like she was too good to carry a plate back or something. To her credit, my "real waitress" stepped in and asked me what was wrong. I put real waitress in quotes cause I'm sure she has to share her tips with the rude beotches. My food felt like it had been sitting a while which is probably true since the whole table came at once. All in all, for the price, there are a lot more customer friendly places that I will be going instead of the red ox.
(1)Rose O.
Food was, ok I guess. Some craft beer, sorta a little pricy. Our server wasn't attentive, the bouncer accused me and my husband of having fake IDs just because mine says 5'6 and his is 6'2, apparently I don't look 5'6 (I adjusted wanted to be rude back and say I'm sorry are you my doctor, would you like to measure me)..and was kinda rude to us the whole time. I have not returned because of all things your service should be good. Maybe it was just a bad night. But, I will not be returning.
(1)Molida K.
I went there once and I don't think I'll be heading back. I didn't think you could mess up a simple grilled chicken salad with cranberries but apparently you can. The chicken had zero flavor. It tasted simply like plain chicken breast thrown on the grill and sliced onto the salad. The pecans were overly candied and there were zillions of dried cranberries within the salad. The dressing tasted like orange jelly. Imagine eating candy on top of lettuce with bland chicken throughout. The menu did not have anything interesting to choose from. Service was friendly but very blasé.
(2)Russ H.
Great higher end sports bar/tavern/restaurant. Great menu, network tavern games, and a friendly staff. Décor is nice. Does not have a divey bar vibe. Great place for drinks after works with folks from the office. Sometimes has a younger crowd as it's across from Oakland University. Good burgers, and a menu that goes beyond the standard bar snacks. Suitible for full dinner and have lots of space. Ideal for events.
(4)Michelle M.
Red ox is a great sports bar for stopping in after work with friends looking for a happy hour. The food is decent and prices are ok, menu is ordinary sports bar fare. Awesome beer menu, about 40 craft beers. The Monday trivia makes it easy to park it and stay awhile.
(4)Tricia S.
Not great for burgers. Ordered burgers and sweet potato fries and Cesar salad. Salad was drenched in dressing, burgers bland. Beer was cold and good selection. Fruit flies. Fast service.
(2)Phillip B.
Good drink prices.
(3)Amanda W.
Great sports bar for a long lunch. Stopped here today for lunch while in town for work and was pleasantly surprised. Although the service was a little slow, the food was good. I had the French onion soup which was a little too salty, but the Waldorf salad wrap was delicious. I would return to the restaurant the next time I'm in town for work as long as I'm not in a rush.
(4)Nelson R.
This was just average for an out of towner. Food was standard and prices were decent. On Thursday it's definitely a hot place to go after work and is great for people watching and listening to any conversation but your own.
(3)Courtney F.
Red Ox has some OK deals on domestic beer and apps and that's why we occasionally pop into this place... but the craft brews are always way over priced... We were craving a burger the other day so we stopped by this place cause it was close... had to grab my own menu off a table... waited a long time for a server.. waited a long time for drinks... then waited a long time to order... (and a long time to me is a LONG time being I'm a server of 11 years myself with A LOT of patience!) Got our burgers only to discover they are frozen flat tasteless patties... The fries were the best part (waffle!) and even they were soggy. :( After our meal we were asked if we would like another round of beers (both were an inch from empty), we said no thank you that should be all. annnnddd.... we didn't see our server for another half hour... i take that back we saw her cleaning tables... but never came over to our table... finally she was zooming past us to wipe other table nearby and we stopped her and asked her kindly for boxes and the check... an HOUR later after eating and our bill was done we got our check and paid... All I have to say is thank god they had buzztime trivia... on the PLUS side the atmosphere is very nice. They just need better food and better service!!!
(2)Dianna D.
This place was quite lively when my colleagues and I stepped in to have a dinner after work. The decor is very rustic and Halloween-y (this coming Monday is the 31st), and it's cool that they serve Octoberfest beer during the Octoberfest season in Germany. Food portions were very generous and not bad tasting and overly greasy as expected by all bar food. But that's not saying much considering I had the beef salad. Although the BBQ wings were good beer food, I would say! Not the best-tasting batter-fried chicken I had though. Wait staff was great about everything. I would come back another day to try the karaoke or dance party (Wed and Fri after 9pm, respectively)
(3)Rachel E.
I don't even know where to begin. I came here with a group of girlfriends on a Friday night for drinks and dinner. It took 30 minutes to get our first drink and 25 minutes to get our second drink. Our waitress didn't even take our order until she brought our second drinks - needless to say, we were ready to go, but decided to stay and eat. The food was pretty good, but we were so mad at that point it didn't really matter. Two & a half hours later we each had two drinks, dinner and paid our checks (after another 20 minutes of fixing the mistakes on our checks... many were charged for more than two drinks, some missing their entrees, etc.). Sure, it was a Friday, but that's no excuse for the beyond poor service.
(1)Yachin H.
Surprisingly flavorful bar food. We got the pork tenderloin. It came with apple walnut chutney garnished. My boyfriend loves the broccoli slaw which I would call it asian slaw. Oh yea, the service was great too!
(4)Mrs. And Mr. G.
Poor service, the waitress is rude, the burger not good at all, small quantities , won't come back for food, might for a drink only
(2)Lauren S.
I think this place is great! I come here more for lunch/happy hour now but I have some fond/blurred memories of ridiculous (sometimes embarrassing) nights here in college - so this place will always have a special place in my heart. First, the food is always good! I've never had something here that I haven't liked and their appetizers are great - I love the fried pickles, in particular. (Also, their garlic cream cheese with their bread sticks is disturbingly delicious.) Their drink specials are pretty good and the staff is friendly. The acoustics aren't great in the bar area, it can get kind of hard to hear but they have plenty of tables and I like that there are a lot of TVs with transmitters so you can set the audio to a particular TV. Their outdoor patio is really nice, though. They have a fire pit that sits high enough to be surrounded by bar stools, which I think is pretty unique. Also, the tables all have nice big umbrellas to keep you out of the sun and heat.
(4)Chris M.
We enjoy Red Ox. Went there 2 hours ago as a matter of fact. I always sit on the "non-bar" side and there is not a hint of smoke. May be different on a busy night, but we've been there at least 10 times and it's never been a problem. Good food at a very good price in my opinion. My favorite is the Italian Panini for $7. Yum!
(4)Debapriya S.
way too hurrying even without a big crowd... tye bouncer was somehow verifying a gov issued id... not sure what kind of crowd comes in here coz of which there is such a cross check.. inside tye waitresses are in such a hurru as if the customers are wasting their precious time orsering... well doesnt make sense? i couldnt make any sense either....
(1)Gordon P.
We had our yearly college reunion/Christmas party here this year. Food was great, drinks were great, prices were fair enough. They had a band. Place was full and fun. Lots of cougars. Awesome place.
(4)Dave S.
The Ox is a decent place to stop in with a few buddies after work, which I imagine is the case for a majority of the patrons. Either local business people or Oakland University students. I will say I much prefer the Utica location. It is much bigger inside, has way more TVs and is really broken up into 3 sections where as Auburn Hills only has 2. The Utica restaurant also has a solid patio when the weather permits. I thought the food was priced appropriately. Sometimes sports bars can get a little out of hand but Red Ox was fine. I went with the jumbo burrito which was surprisingly decent. I wasn't expecting much and it might not be a typical order for this type of restaurant but for some reason I needed Mexican no matter what the cost. It turned out to not be a bad decision. The set up was a little lacking IMO. The place is pretty much broken in half with the left side being sit down tables and the right being the bar with all high tops. They had trivia and the speaker boxes so you can listen to whichever game you want, but I think our vantage point was lacking. It appeared like that might have been the case for several tables given the rooms configuration. I think Red Ox wins the Walton/Squirrel Rd corridor going up against TGI Fridays, Palm Palace, Applebees, and BD's Mongolian BBQ in terms of a spot to go after work, grab a quick bite and have some drinks or watch a game.
(3)Mark H.
I've been to this location of the Red Ox 5 or 6 times now, and I don't really agree with the reviews here. First off, a couple of people complain about it being a smoking establishment, but they have a huge non-smoking room and that is where I sit and I've never smelled smoke in there. After May 1 2010 it isn't going to make a difference anyway, but I don't really blame restaurants for allowing smoking if they have generous provisions for us non-smokers. Our party has had the specials, the burgers, and a few other things, but the perennial favorite has been the chicken pot pie. A nice sized dish with pastry dough on top, browned and fresh out of the oven. If you like pot pies, definitely give it a try! They also had an insert in the menu with "Michigan" items that are a way to "eat local." I really like that concept and hope it becomes a part of their permanent menu. On my last visit, it was 7:30pm on a Saturday night and the place was at capacity, took under 10 minutes to wait for an open table. And the service has always been fine, regardless of how busy the place has been. I guess we've been luckier than some of the other reviewers. Good for medium to large groups, and the outdoor seating is a real treat when the weather agrees. Bottom line, we've had several visits and (knock on wood) have been really pleased. I'll be back for sure.
(4)Rob B.
This place is just ok. Yes, they have lots of TV's and lots if different brews. But it's very very smoky and the service is extra slow! I sure won't be visiting this place again.
(2)Robert T.
Plenty of beer choices, but just a typical chain like sports bar. I mean, my expectations are low when I come to to Troy/Auburn Hills, so this place is a repeat for me, but I'd go somewhere else if I had more choices. Not bad, but nothing special.
(3)Ryan S.
Pretty run of the mill bar/ grill spot. If you want to linger with and beer and hang out with friends this place is pretty good. The food is not bad, I recommend the BBQ Chicken Pizza.
(3)Jason R.
wall to wall flat screens, a waterfall bar, and a fantastic patio make this place a great spot to catch the game. Happy hour now starts at 2pm! the outdoor patio has a fire pit as well as propane heaters for chilly Michigan nights. Inside can be smokey, but the cute female wait staff make it worth it....
(4)Mike S.
This place may be more appropriately called the "Red Ass Tavern" for all the attitude we witnessed there. We stopped in for a quick bite before a concert at Meadowbrook and we floored with all the irritated people at the front door. Customers, hostesses and waitresses were all at each other's throats over seating, sections, reservations, pushing tables together and all the other seemingly regular logistics that are common in a bar. That aside, we were seated and were promptly ignored / forgotten about for about 25 minutes. After all that, the beer was cold and the food was average. I don't plan on stopping in again...there is a Buddy's Pizza down the street.
(2)Sam H.
Go here all the time. Usually very good food. Attractive, friendly staff. One of my favorites.
(5)Bob B.
Red Ox has consistently treated me well. They have great food and service. I recently visited and bought 2 Red Wings pint glasses for $3 each there also! They are great! I've had all sorts of there food and think its wonderful. Their fries are thin cut style which I could do without, but other than that, Red Ox is great. The location isn't bad either. It's only a few miles from The Palace of Auburn Hills so going to a Pistons game after makes life easy.
(4)Dan T.
Typical, large steak, chicken wing, sports bar. Nothing special, nothing exciting, ......
(3)Peter K.
Slightly upscale sports bar/restaurant. I enjoyed the trivia. Food was decent -- nothing noteworthy. Beer selection was pretty standard -- not a lot of non-mainstream beers to choose from. I wouldn't come back here for one reason -- they allow smoking inside. I'm from a more civilized city (New York) which has banned smoking at all bars and restaurants, so it was a bit of a shock to see people smoking inside. I don't really care for having to breathe in something that will kill me and make my clothes smell terrible.
(2)Patrick R.
I was here for the republican debate and a Ron Paul rally. I was surprised at the food. I didn't have much. Just some Chips and salsa (both homemade), some really awesome breadsticks with a cream cheese dip, and some spinach dip. Everything was good and fresh. Prices were solid, and the drinks were flowing. Dr. Paul showing up at the end in the packed beyond capacity house. I'm interested to go back and try some entrees.
(4)Lauren M.
This is a decent place for happy hour drinks, but I don't think it's a great spot for an all-night event. It's too bad, because it's a big facility with lots of space. It's mostly filled with Oakland University students or business patrons, which is great but kind of cuts down on the ambiance of a sports bar. Plus, the college students can be really rude. On our visit, a group came in that smelled as if they came from a clambake. A really big turn-off, and actually caused us to leave. The food is pretty good, but the drinks are overpriced and they don't really seem to have a lot of specials. The waitresses aren't the best, but they're friendly enough.
(2)Jay G.
First visit today and I must say I was impressed with the service! The four of us sat at the bar the bartender was very attentive and helpful. Just had appetizers, but they were prepared just as asked. Nice location for a quick bite before an event at the Palace.
(5)Chris M.
Been going here for years and always been pleased. Recently though, a little less than pleased, waitstaff was not very attentive :-/
(3)Nicole W.
Nice, well rounded restaurant. Some great food: chicken pot pie Some OK food: fajitas (not a ton of chicken, chicken caesar salad, specialty pasta (good sauce and veggies, mediocre pasta) Very nice service, quiet, and HUGE portions (hellllllo, dinner tomorrow!).
