Certainly one of the few places to eat in the Allendale area. Lots of TV screens and Keno to enjoy. As far as the food goes it is pub food. The entrees are terrible. I ordered fajitas and they were still swimming in oil. On another occasion I ordered a burger that came out to me raw. The manager then proceeded to tell me that we have different ideas of what "medium" is. The burger came out two minutes later scorching hot with my bite still taken out of it. Service is usually terrible expect a few minutes after getting seated for you to order your drinks. Friendly staff but they are not good at what they are supposed to do. I tell myself I will never go back but it is one of the few choices in Allendale. Now I only order drinks and stay away from the food.

Good location. Food OK, service spotty and management indifferent. I understand they have an 'unwritten rule' that the waitresses should be tipped 25% regardless of the quality of service-- Too many other places to spend one's time and $$.

They have a great outdoor seating area. We tried it today with a group of 7 of us. They were very accommodating and do have call ahead seating. Our waitress wasn't the best and we waited FOREVER for our food. Thankfully it was nice outside and we got busy talking otherwise I would have gone and talked to someone sooner. I didn't look at the time when we ordered, but based on when we were seated and when we got our food--we waited at least 30 min. And another big group who arrived after us got their food before we did. When we finally got our food, it was pretty good. The burgers and sandwiches looked the best and that is what I would recommend. Average prices were around $8-$11. We will go back again but hopefully have better service.

Stopped here yesterday after soccer training at GVSU. Start to finish the experience was poor. 4 of us ordered salad. Each ordered a full size salad but it wasn't enough food. I had to order some sweet potato fries to bridge the gap. When the fries arrived, they were cold. Another person ordered a side of bacon after her salad wasn't enough too. This time the bacon was barely cooked. My husband ordered a portobello sandwich no aioli, but of course it came with it. Not sure what's going on here, but save your money and time and eat elsewhere.

Two times now we've had a less than five star experience. The food is always pretty good but the service pretty much sucks. The problem isn't all the fault of the waitresses although they aren't the sharpest. They have some new system I guess where the person taking the drink order may or may not be your server. I'm not sure if the waitstaff even know what's going on. So plan on ok food, mediocre service and obviously confused and overwhelmed waitstaff. And why are there three girls at the hostess stand?

A college fave. Still solid and great value. I graduated from GVSU in 2006 and spent plenty of time at Main Street Pub during my college career. Service was very attentive aand friendly. A decent place to go. Fun karaoke. Food is not always consistent, but never bad - specifically the roast beef and chicken dingers. One reviewer mentioned 'local kids looking for a fight'. In my 5 years of going there I have never seen anything like this...so this might have been a rare event for Main Street. One thing that could use improvement is that Main Street turns over more bartenders than McDonalds.

The Pub is a great place to go in Allendale. What I like about it is that it seems to cater to both the college crowd all the way to Grandma and Grandpa. They really have something for everyone! They have a bar area that can be a bit louder and a regular sit down restaurant area. The food is all great and priced well. You can have anywhere from a soup and sandwich to a burger to prime rib or a burrito. Tuesday nights are karaoke and there is a lot of fun to be had. There is a lot of really talented people in the area! We go there regularly and will continue! Great place to eat!

My favorite thing about The Pub is how close it is to GVSU. This makes it an easy place to go after moving your little sister into college or when parents come to visit you at college and take you out to dinner, especially because it isn't too expensive (it is possible to get out under 10$ a person if you don't get soda). The atmosphere is nice enough and the food is equally proportionate in its tastiness/size to price ratio. The waitresses are nice and usually do a good job. It's not a place I rave about, but it is somewhere that I have gone to a lot for decently tasty food.

Tired of Applebees, Friday's, Bennigan's, Ruby Tuesday's, and Chili's but don't want to stray too far from the comfort that is the all-American restaurant/bar menu? Ever wish you could go back and re-live a little bit of that college excitement in a somewhat lively atmosphere with a young wait staff? Like moderately priced food with decent portions? Then have I ever got the place for you. Main St Pub located right in Allendale by GVSU. It's basically a cookie cutter with all the good qualities of the above mentioned restaurants and an environment all its own. The interior is something like a toned down version of Applebees with about 8,000% less junk on the walls and a little bit more class. For those who are looking for a bit more busy place to get their grub on, you can walk past the dining area and go seat yourself in the bar... complete with big screen televisions, a digital jukebox, pool table, darts, and a fully stocked bar. The food is pretty standard fare, but it's all done incredibly well. Burgers are burgers like anywhere else, but the Blackened Chicken Pasta Bake and the wraps they offer seem to be a few steps ahead of the game to some of their competition. Everything on the menu is clearly spelled out as far as its ingredients goes, so if it sounds like it's good... then chances are you'll be satisfied with it. Everything I've had here is pretty good with a few exceptions that weren't so bad I actually remembered what they were (sorry!). But why does it get four stars? The "late night" specials that start at 9pm on most nights. Each night of the week one menu item is given a price cut and served up like royalty. Tuesday nights you can score a half pound burger for only $2.99! Adding fries is only $0.50 more! Try that at any other "real" restaurant. Tremendous values like this will easily raise this place's value in my eyes any day. The service here is usually spot on as well. If you're a regular, you can count on that extra special attention, so long as the hostess at least recognizes you - apparently they pass the word along. Of course, if you're an average Joe walking in the service is nothing spectacular, but it's pretty good for being run by a bunch of college students. You can't ask for too much more, honestly. Reasonable prices, slightly above average food, and your pick between a slightly noisy bar or a more relaxed dining area make this place worth multiple visits. The late night specials are the ultimate cherry on top of this brownie sundae to me, as I know it gave me some great memories with some good friends through my college career. As one of the original bars around for the ever expanding Allendale area, it may not be the best, but it gets props for starting things off on an extremely good foot.

One would expect a strip of restaurants just outside the GVSU campus, but unfortunately good dining options are limited in Allendale. Stopped off at Main Street Pub for lunch today with a group of coworkers and was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of room to find a place to sit down and eat. Our server was professional, knew the specials by heart, and checked back periodically with our table, but not that annoying pestering kind of attention that some servers give. I for one dislike servers who try to "chum up" to you...just bring me my food warm with a smile and we will get along A-OK. I ordered one of the lunch specials which was a chicken wrap with romaine lettuce and two kinds of cheese with a side of fries...definitely would order again. The menu had a variety of options for any diner. Plenty of plasma TVs on the walls no matter which direction one sits, however not a wide variety of sports were airing...get satellite and bring in some international sport events. Easily can accommodate single dining or groups. If you are in the mood to party a bit, take a look at their extensive shot menu...some creative ones.

We were pretty hungry after a drive from Chicago to GVSU to drop off our daughter, and didn't want to wait til we got to Holland to eat. This place looked promising. It seems nicer than a "college pub" and has a neat, large patio area. We sat out to enjoy the beautiful day, and were the only ones out there for most of the time we dined. The menu was extensive- it all looked good! I opted for the spinach chicken salad which had walnuts, apples and blue cheese on it, as well as the raspberry viniagrette on the side. I couldn't wait to dig in, but was disappointed in the lack of flavor. I can't explain it, but there really wasn't any significant flavor to any of the ingredients. It was just kinda bland. Hubby had the grilled chicken sandwich with roasted red pepper hummus- and he, too was disappointed. We seemed to have 2 waitresses, as one was in training- so every 3 minutes one of them came by to see if we needed anything. At first I thought it was nice, but it got old about 1/2 way thru the meal. Overall, it was a decent place. Maybe one of those places where visiting parent's can take their student when they are in town, but nothing fancy.

This place can handle big groups. Came for a hockey tournament in the area. We came here as a team for lunch in between games. The food was good. The service was great. Our mites got ice cream sundaes and chocolate milk with their meals. All for one price. You can't beat that!

Very average bar/restaurant. You can picture the food you are served appearing very similar just a little more frozen when it's dropped off by the food service delivery truck. Drinks are again ok. It's like an Applebee's without the national chain budget.

I spent a lot of time at the Main Street Pub during my college years. It's the place to go on a Friday or Saturday night for drinks with friends late at night when you don't feel like heading downtown. It's also a place where you can bring your parents and sit down for a nice dinner. I always enjoyed the portabella sandwich or the BLT. I did try some of their entrees, and was never impressed. Stick with the pub food. The fried pickles are also delicious. They have pool tables and darts in the bar, and karaoke on a weeknight. It's a great place to gather a group, and we spent a lot of birthdays here. After moving away to DC, I'm shocked by the value for the food. $6 for a dinner is nearly impossible to find here in DC unless you're eating fast food. It's make me homesick for the Pub some days. Even when we come back into town, we still usually wrangle a group together to meet at the pub to reunite for food, drinks and fun.

Breakfast. Sundays they have a breakfast buffet that is fabulous. Decent price, great food. Made to order items and all the traditional stuff we love, like bacon. We went back for Dinner another time because I enjoyed Breakfast so much, it was pretty average, The food was ok, the decor was ok, the serve was ok. Nothing I would drive across town for to get, but if I was down the road and hungry I'd probably stop in.

The menu boasts "famous meatloaf" and being a meatloaf lover, I decided to try it. It was HORRIBLE. First off, it wasn't even a loaf, it was about 5 or so crumbles of meat mixture topped with canned gravy. The potatoes were dry and also covered in the salty canned gravy. I ate 2 bites off my entire plate and couldn't eat anymore because it was disgusting. I should have just thrown my $10 that the meatloaf cost straight into the garbage can. The soup that came before the meal was bland as well as cold. The server was also bad and didn't know anything about their menu. My husband asked what kind of local beers they had on draft and she had no idea. She asked him to name some so she could see if any of the names sounded familiar. My husband's meal was fine- the fries were good (even though there were only like 12 of them) and his gyro tasted like it had been frozen, but still OK. We were extremely dissatisfied with our entire dining experience and will not return to the restaurant ever. Worst $30 ever spent.

Tuesday night burger special is quite the deal. They have a lot of other weekly specials going out too--worth checking out. The food is pretty good. Nothing too special, but definitely a step-up from the bland-tasting food at Applebees. Food prices are decent. There is a regular dining area with booths and a bar with maybe 10 TVs, a pool table and a pay-per-play jukebox. The bar area can get a little smoky, but it's by no means the smokiest place I've been. The Pub is a popular spot for 21st birthday parties--mainly because (1) it's close to campus, (2) there's a bus stop on the adjacent corner and (3) it's not age-restricted to 21+. Be forewarned, though: if you're not getting something on special (and they do have some decent specials during the week), you'll pay a fairly high price. Not that it's in the "unreasonable" range, but it's definitely not too cheap. I asked my server how much she thought a pint of Guinness would be; she guessed $3 and offered to check for sure before getting it to me. I said that that wouldn't be necessary and told her to go ahead and get the Guinness. It ended up being $6. As I said, not unreasonable (actually, somewhat standard), but also not cheap. Tip: check their website for their specials before planning your night to go. P.S. For dessert, get the chocolate chip cookie (and yes, you'll only need one--it's plate-sized). It is the BOMB!

This restaurant has good American food and the prices are very reasonable, since their target market is college students. I went here after a Grand Valley basketball game, so it was packed and the service was slow. I got the grilled chicken wrap and a brownie sundae, both were delicious. The atmosphere is great for families or college age kids. There is a sports bar and on certain nights, karaoke. The Pub has a large selection of food on the menu ranging from seafood to fried pickles. A good pick, overall.

Good food, great prices, great service. We took our family out after church on Sunday and really enjoyed it. We want to go back since we only looked at once side of the menu and want to experience the other!
