Just north of Drake's Island Road is Big Daddy's Ice Cream. You'll NOT be disappointed, I mean, COME ON! It's Ice Cream. Many choices, soft serve, hard pack, go ahead treat yourself. It's hot outside, you need a treat so order a cone. Sizes are huge, price is OK, and the staff is cute!

My family has been coming here for years. All of their flavors are worth a try, especially the pistachio walnut or chocolate walnut. Everything is creamy and delicious.

Big Daddy's is great! First off, I loved how they had several different low fat and sugar free flavors to choose from along with all of the regular flavors that they had. Next, I loved how they have not only small, medium, and large sizes to choose from but they also had a baby size that you could order. They also have a variety of sundaes, shakes, floats, and other good stuff. I got a baby sized cup of sugar free black raspberry ice cream, I know...boring right? It was great though and to be honest, it really wasn't that small! You really couldn't tell it was sugar free, the black raspberry taste really came through quite strong. My husband got a sundae with a butterscotch sauce on it and wow, was that good. We both loved it! The place had a steady stream of folks coming in and out of there but the line moved quite quickly. It has a fun friendly vibe in there although what on earth is with the deer head on the wall? It is rather odd to be enjoying a nice cup of ice cream while sitting underneath a deer head! Fun place to check out if you are in the area.

So so so tasty! Not too sweet perfectly creamy and a good sampling of flavors. I got the peanut butter cup and choc chip cookie dough and my boyfriend got the cherry choc chip and coffee oreo. All were tasty and the staff gave very generous portions. Highly recommend this place!

Definitely the best prices on ice cream in wells, and a very good selection, but a question. How cn you sell ice cream sundaes and not have maraschino cherries???? They didn't run out--they just don't have them period. That's the highlight of my ice cream sundae experience and something the owners should definitely rethink. Charge a dime or fifteen cents for one like the place down the streeet--people who love them that much won't care about the small fee and would be eternally grateful!

After reading the review about the assortment of sugar free flavors, I finally decided I had to take my family there. I can't have sugar so I was very excited to try this place out. We drive by it every weekend and based on the very cool name I always wanted to stop. It was "ok" at best and as far as the sugar free goes there were only 2 flavors. Boring! It was decent ice cream and the sizes were good, not expensive but not cheap either...

Three words: Salty. Carmel. Crunch! OMG! I've been a Big Daddy's devotee for many, many years. Creamy, rich, delicious homemade ice cream. But this new flavor, Salty Carmel Crunch, is insane. I'm obsessed. IIt's a lightly carmel flavored ice cream with flakes of chocolate and bits of pretzels mixed in. Not too sweet, not too salty, and a perfect balance of creamy and crunchy. Beyond amazing. I could eat it every day. Also highly recommend: Coffee oreo, peppermint stick, and coconut... But first try the Salty Carmel Crunch.

The best on the coast! Tried a few others, keep coming back here. Big servings, excellent sorbet and sugar free ice cream, too! Love it!

Ice cream was a-okay. Rum raisin tasted more like vanilla with a few raisins. Good, creamy texture though. We also had a waffle cone (which was delicious) filled with pumpkin ice cream. Not the best pumpkin flavor I have had, but it was quite good. Fun place to stop at. Think how much you like it depends on how good the flavor is.

Big Daddy's has some pretty good soft serve and hand packed ice cream, although they are a tad limited on the flavors and toppings available. Nothing spectacular, but definitely will hit the spot if you need your fix. They have a large private parking lot and their is plenty of counter help to accommodate the customers. There are a bunch of picnic tables in front for your ice cream enjoyment.

Oh man. SO GOOD. I've only tried their flurries (Reese's peanut butter cup all the way!) and HOLY CRAP. Homemade for sure, and so, so delicious.

Stopped here at the last minute. Had pumpkin cone. It was excellent. Prices were also very reasonable. Advertised as all homemade...no doubt about it. They also serve steamed hot dogs didn't try these. Def worth the stop!

Great ice cream flavor selection, but had to have the Maine blueberry. Glad I did, as it was amazing -- creamy and smooth, and really flavorful with lots and lots of whole blueberries throughout. I stood outside under the awning during a short sun shower and downed the whole thing, thoroughly enjoying every lick! The servings are good sized -- a small was a perfect snack for me. The only comparable Maine blueberry ice cream I've had is from Gifford's, and I think Big Daddy's beats it by a small margin. Good stuff!

This isn't JUST ice cream - it's SUPERIOR ice cream in taste, texture and flavor selection. It is a must for anyone vacationing in the area. I have spent a week on Drakes Island every summer for most of the past 4 decades and I can't remember the last time I didn't have at least TWO Big Daddy's Banana Splits. They do it right - old school. Peanut Butter Cup is a peanut butter-based ice cream (that's huge), they have a separate Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. Banana Chocolate Chip is another great flavor to throw into their INCREDIBLE Banana Split (2 or 3 scoops). Just get it...DO IT! Coffee Frappe is heaven. Pumpkin, Mocha Chip and Grape Nuts are among our family favorites. Whatever the flavor - I challenge you to take one bite, but before you do, try to remember the last ice cream you ate and ask yourself, did it seem creamy? Was it creamy enough to make you say something out loud like, "Wow, that's creamy!" Big Daddy's will. Enjoy!

Good, cheap ice cream?! Sign me up!!! This deliciously rich and creamy ice cream will have you coming back for more! Those who have read my previous posts will know how much I love ice cream. Well, I've switched over to frozen yogurt and I've got to say that I was impressed by the selection here! I go for low/nonfat varieties and Big Daddy's delivered a delicious chocolate chip cookie dough froyo that was simply irresistible! I also got a taste of an ice cream sundae made with coffee ice cream. Mmm!!! I tried the Maine blueberry as well- oooooh man good! The prices are exceedingly reasonable, too! I got a single scoop (big though) for under $2!! The place has both an inside and outside window. In the summer, around dusk, I recommend going inside. Those who wait outside run the risk of renaming this spot Bug Daddy's. :-)

Amazing ice cream. Try the pumpkin it's phenomenal. My husband had the black raspberry and it was equally delicious. Be forewarned that portions are HUGE. My small was approx 3 scoops!

There is nothing like homemade ice cream during the summer in Maine. I love Big Daddy's so much I am sure I'd even eat it in winter during a snow storm, if they were open. All the flavors are good, but my personal favorite is the Reese's Pieces Ice Cream with peanut butter and hot fudge on top. Also, check out the ice cream pies to take home. They will put together a 'doggie dish' of bottom or the freezer scraps (sans chocolate), if you ask.
