Tubby's is awesome. We detoured to Wayne (on the way from Boston to Bar Harbor) based on a RoadFood.com listing. They have a mess of great ice cream, along with lobster rolls and hot dogs. Hot dogs! Foot long beauties hanging off the ends of grilled buttered buns. While we were waiting for our food, they offered "tastes" of ice cream - each "taste" was two or three bites of ice cream in miniature wafer cones. This meant I got to taste licorice ice cream, and peanut butter, thereby saving the ginger for my post-hot dog delight. It's totally worth a detour.

What's the question? Whatever it is, the answer is yes. Is this the best ice cream in the world? Yes. Is it worth driving from Baltimore to middle of nowhere Maine for? Yes. Have I ever considered buying a 20 gallon jug of the chocoreo? Yes. Have I gone more than once in a day? Yes. Have I gone for lunch and dinner and gotten ice cream both times? I'm not super proud of it, but YES. The ice cream is amazing, obviously. Chocoreo is my favorite all time ice cream / frozen yogurt / gelato / anything dessert. It would be part of my last meal. The lobster rolls are also phenomenal. Get the melted butter on the side and go to town (there's no city for hundreds of miles, you'll have to settle with going to town). Not in the mood to spend the big bucks on the lobster roll? The cheesesteak, grilled cheese, and footlong hotdogs are also all great for different appetites. Basically, try it once and you'll agree: the answer is yes.

A solid lobster roll. Buttered New England hot dog roll packed with delicious, fresh lobster with large chunks mixed with smaller pieces. The person at the window was friendly and helpful. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars to me is the price. At nearly $18 for a lobster roll that's no bargain and only for the person who really wants one. Otherwise, excellent and recommended.

Not much to say, this is my favorite without exception lobster roll. They make their own roll which is like a giant piece of toast, perfectly designed to hold you lobster. The ice cream is also excellent, home-made deliciousness!

Amazing lobster rolls! My friends and I were staying in Leeds and we drove over here. Pure perfection! Also they have pumpkin ice cream during the fall. I'm not a fan but my friends got some and they loved it. The wait can be a little long but it is sooooo worth it.

For the best, freshest lobster roll anywhere in the area, this is your place. It's an outdoor stand kind of place with picnic tables seating. Mostly it's popular for their creative ice cream selection, but they recently reduced the number of flavors, which is too bad.

Almost every day in the summer is a Tubby's day for our family. The ice cream is fine, but don't get the hot fudge. Get a babybear size, it is what most places call a regular.

I'm so surprised that no one has been up here to review Tubby's. Now i know it's in the middle of no where, but it's seriously worth the drive little Wayne, Maine. Tubby's has the best lobster roll I've ever had. Perfectly grilled and buttered roll with only a touch of mayo, and a huge pile of clear meat lobster. No lettuce, no tomato, no celery...none of that crap. This is as pure as you get. They also have lots of other tasty sandwich choices if you are not a lobster fan. Their chicken salad is awesome and so it their cheese steak-- all on that buttery grilled bread. You can't go wrong. Then you get to top off that meal with the best ice cream you'll ever find at a little take out stand! You'll get to indulge in flavors like tree hugger (maple and oats, and other yummys), naked i screamith (sweet cream), and my personal favorite Peanut Buttah!!! It's the creamiest and most delightful ice cream you can get. You don't really even need to have a sundae. Taste it pure in a cup or cone, or if you really want to, get their home made chocolate sauce that's to die for. Go there on a nice day and sit out by the lake. This is strictly outdoors! The perfect way to spend the evening! Skip Red's Eats for a lobster rolls and take the ride to Wayne, ME-- you will not be dissapointed!

went to the Winthrop location. First of all, the flavor signs are completely illegible and tell you almost nothing about the ice cream flavor itself. The "witty" sayings are just obnoxious, too. I got a shake made out of the 2009 B.C. flavor, aka Burnt Caramel, and it was absolutely disgusting. They need to dial down the burnt flavor 20 notches. I was expected a caramel flavor that had been a little over-cooked and crispy, but this tasted like someone took caramel ice cream and then dumped in a bunch of scrapings from the charcoal grill. Also, I went inside looking for a restroom. Right inside the door was a little hostess' stand and I could just see the first table of the dining room around the corner. The sign on the hostess' station said to wait to be seated, so I waited there, hoping a waitress would walk by. After five minutes, no one was anywhere to be seen. Then, a waitress came out of the kitchen carrying orders for that first table. After giving them their plates, she disappeared back into the kitchen without even acknowledging that my brother and I were standing there. We waited a few minutes more and then gave up and left. Gross ice cream and lousy service. Would not go there again.

Their website claims they have the best ice cream in new England, but they are seriously mistaken. This place was some of the worst Ice Cream I've ever ever had. Mad Martha's on the Vineyard or J.P. Licks are two places that would blow this place out of the water. I didn't try any of the other food, but it's definately not worth the trip for the Ice Cream.

Tubby's is a real find, an oasis in the middle of nowhere. Worth a 50 mile trip for both the ice cream and the lobster rolls. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because some of the flavors I've tried have been of far less quality than others, so it can be hit-or-miss. But they are very friendly about letting you taste any flavor so there's no reason to get stuck with a stinker like I did. They have a new branch in Winthrop now so it's not quite as far to drive, but heading out to the lake in Wayne is what we usually do.

i prefer the one in wayne instead of winthrop but winthrop is closer to the place my boyfriend has in Maine so we usually go to winthrop. their ice cream is good.. nothing out of this world and the signs dont usually tell you what type of ice cream you are actually getting... id prefer a description of the flavor instead of a witty saying but maybe thats just me. their hot fudge sundaes are ok... the hot fudge at winthrop isnt hot and has a gritty weird texture to it. at the winthrop one they also dont have a lot of flavors to choose from at any given time so that limits what you can order which is a bummer. their lobster rolls are AMAZING though... big chunks of sweet fresh lobster meat with very little mayo on a hot grilled buttered roll... mmmm heaven. i had 2 rolls in the matter of 24 hours.. they are THAT amazing. their sweet potato fries are also delicious and the fried pickles have a good crunch to it. i would come back for just the lobster rolls but not so much for the ice cream. the doggie ice creams (bow wows) are adorable and the dog thoroughly loved his. its just vanilla soft serve with a dog treat in it but he LOVED it. i would go to the winthrop one for lobster rolls and wayne for ice cream!!!
