Words cannot describe how much I love this place. I have visit Maine and this area for the last 10 summers as I have worked here and came back to visit camp friends for some of the summers too. Stepping into this place gives me a flashback of, what good old America used to look like, which is an experience in itself for a Danish girl like me. The cute little area, where you can buy stuff from the Maine/New England area, is so well combined with the area where you eat. I love that it is kept in the old diner style, where you can either sit at the counter or at tables if you are a large group. I would not be able to count on two hands how many time I have been here to eat - this place is wicked awesome and the staff is great, lovely service. The food is very good too, real America breakfast and coffee. I especially love the blueberry pancakes and the omelets are fantastic. I would not change a thing about this place - I love that it is a little "old" and rusty. I only have great memories from this place. Last visit was last week and I will be back for sure

Melby's is legendary! Belly up to counter and chat with the wonderful staff, or grab a table with your friends and family to enjoy a big ole breakfast or hearty lunch/dinner and you won't be sorry. Be sure to have some buffalo - either breakfast sausage or a burger, the pizzas are also delicious. Mosey on into the store and you can find just about anything you could possibly need - souvenirs, camping supplies, groceries, rental movies, liquor, lotto, freshly baked pies and so much more! Spend a hour here and you'll quickly realize this Melby's is the heart and soul of the community - everyone knows everyone and they are warm and welcoming. Its the place to come catch up, have a nice meal, grab the paper, hear the day's news and grab any supplies you might need.

I will start with the positive. Breakfast is great, service at breakfast is stellar. Bacon is to die for and Paul & Kay the owners are very nice. Which is why they get 3 stars. We went for dinner and the service was a completely different experience, the 'waitress' was miserable! I got scallops ( which I asked if they were fresh not fzn and was told they were fresh) that were Luke warm at best and it was very obvious they were previously fzn. I wouldn't have gotten them had I known. So after I asked her why they were not hot, she replied all long faced 'they can throw em in the microwave' ummmm no thx. Oh yeah the cole slaw was brownish and clearly yucky. No one tried to rectify the situation at all, instead another loooooooong faced worker came out and glared at me multiple times. Seriously? Whatever I'll go back for breakfast..............maybe.

Best breakfast, bison burgers, onion rings, and just everything. The best. We always take out of town guests to Melby's and they are blown away at the quality and quantity of food not to mention the timeless Maine general store feel. There is nothing like it. And the pancakes? For gettable bout it.

Great Traditional Maine Breakfast!!!! Homemade bread for toast. Wonderful eggs. Homefries that remind me of my Mom's. Paul and Kay, the owners, are great people as well.

Locals & tourists alike gather at this great "old-school" eatery with an extensive menu. Breakfast is downright amazing, from huge omelettes to the delicious biscuits & gravy with sausage made by the owner. Try elk or bison burger for lunch. Many daily specials.

Wonderful breakfast. Best biscuits and gravy I have ever had, and I have been to the south. Great place to buy a "Wicked Pissah" T. shirt.

What a serious disappointment this place was for my family and I. We were on our way back from Rangeley, and instead of stopping at a fast food joint for dinner, we decided to stop in here. Their home made bread is amazing and we were all craving grilled cheese. It was a Sunday around 5:30. The place was busy but certainly not packed. We sat ourselves at one of the many empty tables and waited, and waited, and waited a little longer for an employee to even show a glimpse of a sign that they noticed we were there. The waitress asked as passing by if we were ready to order and we said yes. She said she would be right back, and never returned. Instead she chatted it up with people that came in after us and sat next to us, then proceeded to and set up 3 other tables with silverware and place mats (all 3 tables also arriving long after us). As mentioned before, we were in the midst of a long ride home, and wanted to get their eventually, so we decided to go to the counter and order to go. Well the employee was less than impressed with us leaving our seat to order to go and had an attitude as taking our order. Then told us that it would be 25 minutes for our grilled cheeses. Looking around we could not determine why this would take so long, since most of those seated before us had their food. We had waited since the children were hungry and there really was not another place nearby. We sat down and waited, and waited some more. Watched another table be completely ignored and the staff being what I consider to be unfriendly to nearly everyone. The vibe here was just strange. It was very local heavy, and that is cool, but the service was simply horrible. To make matters worse, while all these people were waiting, there was a staff member sitting at the counter eating. I have worked in the restaurant industry and remember that I ate when I could, not when things are busy, and definitely not ignoring everyone around you. I have eaten here once before and did not get this feeling, I honestly do not feel its worth my effort to return. The only reason I give 2 stars is because the bread was sooo good.

Usually come here with my family every year while we visit Lake Kezar. Decided to stop by for dinner this year and we were pretty disappointed. Food was awful, service was equally as awful. The girl that took our order was brain dead, had absolutely no clue what she was doing. The guy in the kitchen looked like while he's not cooking he's out back chopping wood, maybe even some plumbing. Seriously, no gloves while handling food? The guy had dirt all over his pants and his ass crack was hanging out. I get the place isn't a 5 star restaurant but I know this guy would take better care if he was preparing food for himself. I ordered eggs and he even screwed that up! They weren't cooked, which is insane because I love runny eggs. The only food I would suggest buying from this place would be anything fried, only because it requires little to no skill and there's a 50% chance they won't screw it up. Just rampant stupidity at this place it's almost funny. Not sure what happened honestly, we probably won't be back.

Great local place! Wonderful big breakfasts - make sure to try the corn beef hash! Not to mention the fluffy buttery delicious pancakes. For dinner the buffalo meat is fresh and juicy. The buffalo burger is top notch and the shoe string fries are as good as they get. Some days they also have a stellar buffalo chili. This is a quintessential place to go if you find yourself anywhere near the area.
