Excellent no frills joint worth a stop. A 7 oz lobster roll in a lightly buttered roll with a bowl of their spicy lobster stew was exceptionally satisfying. Named lobster and lobster, a steal for $19.99 considering many spots charged well over $10 just for a bowl of chowder. Polite, clean, quick and courteous. This past Sunday meal will certainly ensure the "wicked good restaurant" makes it into regular rotation.

Amazing fresh seafood and priced right! Very pleased with this roadside seafood restaurant. We had the fresh fried clams to start you can order them by the half Pint or full Pint. Amazing and fresh not you frozen clam strips that's for sure. My girlfriend had the Naked Lobster again a great choice very fresh it is prepared without mayo. I had the Lobster Club it was very large triple decker sandwich with two sides. Great place will visit again.

This place was excellent. We stopped here on our way up to a wedding in Rockport. The lobster rolls were great and the service was amazing. Becky may be the nicest and most helpful host we've ever had at a restaurant. She gave us tips on local scenic spots and even directions to avoid some construction on the way to Rockport. We were so impressed with Captain's Fresh Idea that we brought some friends back the very next day. Highly recommended.

The fish tacos are wicked good. The blueberry soda super fun. The kids menu comes inside an I Spy book so you can enjoy your great food while your kid seeks five white bunnies and four and twenty blackbirds. Did I mention the service is awesome? So is everything else about this top notch joint.

This was a great place to stop on our way out of Maine. Recommendations to forego the wait at Red's and stop at Captain's were, from what I can tell, a great tip. We tried the lobster quesadilla, fried haddock sandwich, clam chowder, and the kid's hotdog meal. The clam chowder was yet another incarnation of the ubiquitous soup, a medium thick broth most likely made of cream and clam juice with minced clams instead of whole and cubed potatoes. I didn't particularly care for this version, the proportion of clam juice to cream gave it a very strong clam/fishy flavor that I found overpowering. The lobster quesadilla, however, was fantastic with big chunks of flavorful lobster. The haddock sandwich was also a hit, not greasy or over breaded, and was a hefty slab of fish. Service was quick and friendly. They won me right away with a giant cup of coffee that was never empty. Loved the cup so much I bought the mug to take home. Mug was $9 and the whole meal was likely the least costly of the restaurants we visited in the coast.

Not sure what all the raves are about. We stopped here because of the positive reviews and were not at all impressed. The lobster roll, as most lobster rolls around here was good, but nothing to separate it from others. The full belly fried clams were a little too heavily breaded but fine, and the steamers were pretty poor...overcooked and not tender. Service was efficient and friendly and prices OK. Way too many choices in this region to give it a second visit.

During our recent vacation week in the area, Captain's Fresh Idea was the only restaurant that we chose to eat dinner at twice (our son chose it for his birthday dinner after we had been in earlier in the week). Their 7-oz lobster roll special is outstanding; the absolute BEST in the area -- juicy, sweet, flavorful lobster meat and plenty of it, with just the right amount of dressing, served on a buttered, pan toasted roll. So delicious from first bite to last! We ordered our lobster roll platters with their homemade potato salad and homemade pasta salad; both were deliciously fresh and homemade, like ones you'd get at a great summer potluck dinner. To our delight, we were each were given two (!) very generous scoops of the potato salad. Our son's fried clam strips were also fresh and flavorful -- again, the best he'd had in a week of eating out at various local restaurants. Service is very friendly; we feel very at home and welcome at Captain's Fresh Idea. There is no ocean view but the sun porch is quite pleasant and gives you distance from Route 1. We've recommended Captain's Fresh Idea to local friends and family, and we look forward to our visit next summer!

So as we were driving up Rt 1 to Rockland to start our Maine trip, we decided to stop here for lunch, because we had been up at 3am and were starving, exhausted, etc. I checked out YELP, which I often do, and was happy with our experience here. YELP delivers! For lunch, I had a cup of clam chowder and a lobster roll with a glass of Shipyard Export Ale. The chowder was very good with large clams in it, and felt like just the right consistency. The lobster roll was excellence - large pieces of lobster - almost too large ! - and light on the mayo, etc. I had a small, so it was on a toasted hot dog bun. Initially, I was skeptical about this, because I thought: lobster on a hot dog bun? This is odd, but it really worked. The woman who served us was one of the owners, I think, and she was very nice. She encouraged us to come back on our way back down to Portland. We didn't, but this is a place I'd stop by again. When we first got there, we were the only folks in the place, but I think our flashy car (Black Nissan Altima, yeah! :) ) attracted attention, because half a dozen cars were there by the time we left. Yes, we draw a crowd wherever we go.

We gave been going to the Captain's Fresh Idea for at least seven years. It's a simple diner on the east side of Highway 1 in the northern part of Waldoboro. If you like lobster & steamers... This is the place ... Lobster, corn & steamer (clams) dinner: $17.00 ... 2nd lobster $7.00. The lobster was firm and sweet and the steamers fresh and delicious. While these price are market ... and may be higher (or lower) when you go, Fresh Idea has been the best deal on a lobster dinner for all the years we been going there. They also have a killer blueberry crisp with ice cream and whipped cream. Closed mid-October to mid-May.

If you are looking for a good local restaurant, here it is. Family run, mom, dad and daughters are super nice. Hilary especially is super friendly. Even took pictures with my dad. Too funny!! Lobsters are really good!!! Ask for the blueberry soda on draft. Yum! Hopefully dad-Gary has whoopie's available for you. I'm bringing 2 back to California!

Tried this place out for the first time based on previous Yelp reviews. Completely disappointed!!! Our first clue was that the parking lot was totally empty 7pm on a Saturday night. We walked in and our server, although very nice, had a stained shirt on. I ordered 3 of the 3 tap beers and they were all out. So I got a Budweiser.... Blah... My girlfriend ordered a Pinot Grigio which tasted like flat Asti Spumante... So I wanted a boiled lobster and they "sold out today". Right.... You're in Maine. You can't get more lobsters??? But they pushed the "naked lobster roll" which looked good, did not look worth $24!!! So I finished my beer and we went to another place that we've had great luck with. Maybe we caught them on an off night. But never again.

This place isn't much to look at, but the food is amazing and the couple who own and run it are delightful. The lobster roll is, without a doubt, the best I've ever had, and for a very fair price. You cannot go to mid-coast Maine and not eat here!

Great food! Loved the lobster club-perfect ratio of bacon-lobster-mayo-delicious bread! The blueberry soda was yummy. The dessert! Wonderful blueberry crumb cake ala mode.

Just been trying to do the Maine thing and asking the locals about good places to eat. Gotten some really good suggestions, including one from a couple who has lived here for 25 years. Yes, the place they suggested was very good, and I was going to place that one at the top of the list. Captain's Fresh Idea just blew that other place away. The large lobster roll was too big to pick up by hand until I ate some of the chunks of meat off the top. Big chunks. Clam chowder was as good as any I've had, but the lobster roll was just over the top. Wife had the naked lobster salad, came with big chunks of lobster all over the top. Sadly, they didn't have the blueberry crumble that everyone else was talking about - had to settle for blueberry pie, which was homemade and really good. If you're looking for a fancy, overblown restaurant with linen tablecloths, this isn't it. If you're looking for that out of the way, undiscovered hole-in-the-wall gem, Captain's Fresh Idea suits the bill perfectly.

At 5:30 pm when the famous Moody's a few miles away had a long line and only one seat at the counter, I finally got to try Captains Fresh Idea remembering it on many passes as Wicked Good Restaurant, which is also in the sign in front, and that brings up one of my few complaints: Captains Fresh Idea needs a fresh name or maybe it should just go by the Wicked Good Restaurant. So there was one customer and when I asked the waitress about the burgers he held up a half-eaten burger with a big smile and nod. The burger was indeed good, the slaw was tasty, not mayo-laden glop, and my wife's lobster salad was piled with healthy hunks, though the salad was the ordinary midcoast Maine variety, long on iceberg. Mayo and yes Miracle Whip are heavy accompaniments in these parts and this is the rare place that blessedly stints on both--in fact the 'Naked Lobster Roll' is just lobster on a roll with melted butter on the side. Will stop again, no matter what's happening at Moody's.

Best lobster rolls and friendliest restaurant in ME...Really! Just picked up four lobster rolls yesterday for myself and the family. We've been steady CFI customers for over 20 years!
