The food was decent (my lobster roll was delicious, but the kids' didn't like their meals much) but a bit overpriced. The waitress was very nice though and gave us a terrific recommendation for things to do on Deer Isle.

Nevermind the fact that there are a limited number of restaurants in Stonington, we happily ate lunch and dinner here in one day. Great service, solid, traditional New England meals. Great to watch people if you can get a window seat.

Got to hand it to the ladies over at the Harbor Cafe, since they were able to seat and handle our party of about 20 all at one table without a hitch! The brassy ol' timer guided the new-girl waitress and both worked together to get the job done. Plus decent food at a good price. I'm impressed!

If I could give this place NO STARS I would. We walked in for breakfast on a Saturday, and it wasn't too busy for a weekend- just steady. The waitress was annoyed with having to seat us, why I don't know. She made us wait to be seated when tables were open and then told us to sit on one side, then another side. We sat down, and waited ... And waited...and waited. No coffee no menus -nothing. She wasn't too busy to sit two other couples down after us and get them menus and their drinks though. It was clear that two well dressed, clean cut people from out of town, looking for breakfast-- were not welcome here! So we walked out!!! I hope this review costs them business from tourists because they deserve to lose it!

Stopped in for a bite in mid August. Lobster roll was comparable in taste to any other place but cost less, around $11 (lunch special). We also indulged in two enormous slices of homemade strawberry rhubarb pie. The crust is divine. If only you could mass produce this stuff. I'd come back for more if only I didn't live 10 hours away.

Food was okay once I got it. Service wasn't great don't expect much and you won't be let down.

This is the ONLY place open regularly, and they know it. Had a lobster roll, $14 and very fresh. Don't try to get fancy here. Get sandwiches, a yummy muffin to go (pricey but fresh!) and you will get your food when they have time to get it to you. Service was...well I got my food. This is not a place to get picky. They endure tourist season, go easy.

Harbor Cafe... a bit of a mix review.... more like a 2.5 star to me. We actually went there twice during our stay at Stonington... simply because no other restaurants were open (closed for the season). The food there is borderline decent, not too bad, not great. I actually find some of its entree slightly pricey for the type of food served. Per the waitress' recommendation, i tried their lobster stew the first time I was there. That actually, in my opinion, was one of the worst dishes I've had there. The portion was pretty big, but when she brought it out, it looked like there was a full stick of butter floating on top of the soup. I couldn't believe how much butter was in the stew. I also tried their lobster roll, which was a bit small for the price charged. The second time we went there, I tried their haddock sandwich. That was a pretty good value as the fried fish was huge (way bigger than the bread given). I was a big fan of their wings up until the last piece I ate, which was also the biggest piece, was raw near the bone... ewww. So, some good, some bad. When there are no other choices during off season, you eat here unless you want to cook.

My meal was okay; my husband's was not. I had the surf and turf and it was very good. He had a lukewarm fish chowder and a tuna roll. The shrimp in my surf and turf was well-cooked and very tasty and the steak was average. The chowder was tasteless and my husband had stomach issues the next day (was it from the chowder? I don't know). We had to wait a bit to be seated as it appeared there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant.

5 stars for breakfast from me. The choices were varied, the portions are huge and the food is hot and served promptly. Overall a great breakfast at a reasonable price with excellent service.

Well, although no one else seemed to like it, my husband and I did. It is a place that is more of a dive/diner and when you walk in, you expect decent food, but nothing fancy. First of all, our waitress was a bit cranky, but we thought it added to the experience...it made us laugh :) The haddock sandwich was dang good (fried and GREAT tartar sauce) and the seafood stew was quite tasty! It needed salt, but no biggie as the salt is on the table to use :) My club sandwich was VERY good and not over stuffed, as they tend to be. It was a cute place, with good food. Now, I didn't try anything else, but my husband and I LOVED the items we had. So, if you are in the area, get the haddock sandwich, club sandwich and the seafood stew :)

This place is "no frills" all the way but fits in perfectly with a working lobster harbor like Stonington. We ate here during a one night stopover and, if you like your lobster simple and unadorned, this is the place for you. My garden salad was made with crisp, fresh greens and my twin lobster special was just as I hoped it would be. At $19.99 it was quite a bargain compared to what a comparable meal would cost at home. My sides were just so-so but with the abundance of lobster in front of me, I didn't need them. My husband enjoyed his stuffed haddock and, even though I'm not usually a dessert person, I joined him in some delicious, on-premises-baked pie. If you're looking for a "dining experience," go somewhere else. But if you enjoy tasty food where the locals eat, give it a try.

I visited this place twice while I was in Stonington and I thought it was a great little cafe, much cheaper than other places in town. It has a bit of a local diner feel. Good service!

Breakfast is diner food. The western omelet is extremely cheesey. I asked for very well done hash browns and they came barely cooked, twice. The service is fine and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is quaint.

We went here a couple of times. What's good about the Harbor Cafe is that it's open often, and if you know what to look for, you'll get a decent meal at a fair enough price. First time out we had success with the chowders and lobster rolls (competitively priced at $11 each). The service was low key. No-nonsense but decent. On our second visit we made the mistake of getting the sea food dinner. Literally EVERYTHING on the plate was deep fried (not listed on the menu), and we got a bit ill unfortunately. Sadly we went back for lunch and the 3rd time wasn't the charm... Lobster rolls had large pieces of shell in them and the clam chowder was more like mud soup with potatoes and 4 sad little clams... All to the tune of $40... Avoid this joint if you can!

I only went there for breakfast, but the food was decent. Once seated your food is served prompty with decent proportions. One thing that bothered me: I have a child with disabilities and when I asked for a booth (there were plenty empty), I was directed to take a table. I didn't want to explain my child's disability, but experience has taught me that booths are safer for my child and other patrons. Instead of clearing a booth, the hostess continued to set tables for 15 minutes until she finally figured out I was willing to wait as long as necessary for a booth. I shouldn't have to explain why I prefer a booth for my child: if a customer asks for a booth and there are empty ones, clear it and set it.

Small but efficient cafe in the heart of this intimate fishing village. We were a big group without a reservation and they did a good job with us but I would suggest calling ahead. Menu is quite extensive though we stuck with burgers, subs (meatball) and haddock sandwiches which were very good. Haddock sandwich was an exceptional bargain at $6.99. Fries were thin and crispy - regular and sweet potato. Not much to choose from in town so we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food, reasonable prices, and speed of service.

The Harbor Cafe is operated year round in an area full of business that are only open for the "season." The Harbor Cafe is where the locals eat most, breakfast, lunch or dinner. However they are not the only ones eatting here. Tourists, visitors and summer people are just as welcome as the locals. They have a large full menu, much like a dinner with great muffins and donuts cooked on site. The prices is good, the service is effective, and the food comes out in good order. During the peak of the season this place can really get busy, they handle the rush well... they have two dining rooms.

Have been there for 4 lobster dinners and one breakfast. The breakfast was good but typical for a small restaurant. No complaints. But the twin lobster special is the best! Sit in the window and look out and the Stonington Harbor which I think is the prettiest coastal town in Maine. Visit there every summer from Michigan. Going back this year and the Harbor Cafe is on the list!
