Adorable little place to get breakfast/brunch/lunch! Very homey-lots of cute hen decor. The staff is very friendly and treats you like a regular! I came with a group of 11 and they made no fuss about it, we're very kind and happy to seat and serve us! LOVED the hash browns, they were extremely delicious, all the dishes were fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend the home-made bread, it was fluffy and delicious, there's a 50 cent upcharge for it but it is more than worth it. Great spot, I hope to be back soon!

What a great eclectic, cozy place for breakfast. When you first walk in you are greeted with all types of hen or rooster decor and a huge shelf filled with cookbooks. There is a special shelf for repeat customers for their coffee mugs. I am always up for a different restaurant, and this certainly fit the bill. Reasonably priced breakfast food with great ambience. I especially liked the grilled from-scratch muffins. My niece recommended that I ask for my muffin to be grilled and I complied. What a great twist, you get a crisp buttery muffin that fills your mouth with bursts of flavor! Now I only wish I lived closer so I could have MY coffee mug on their shelf!

Great food! I went in for breakfast and ordered the Florentine eggs Benedict, and was very happy with it. The place is small and has an old feel to it, which I like. The wait staff is also very good. I would definitely go back!

The Hen House Cafe opened two months ago in the former Black Bear Cafe space (half the space was sold), serving breakfast and lunch. The head waitress is co-owner of this cafe. The atmosphere inside is very homey and very cozy, walls painted bright yellow with classic country decor on the walls, plus a small TV above the counter area. There's table seating and stool seating at the counter. The breakfast menu offerings include egg dishes, bennies, a variety of 3 egg omelets, pancakes, French toast, waffles, crepes, breakfast sandwiches, homemade hash, homemade breads & muffins, and breakfast sides. Downeast Coffee is brewed here. The lunch offerings include sandwiches, wraps, subs, burgers. hot dogs, chowders, soups, and salads. Daily specials are posted on the board. The prices are fair, most dishes are $4.99-$9.99. See the menu on FB at facebook.com/media/set/?… While driving through Springvale very recently, I decided to check out The Hen House for a late weekend breakfast. I arrived here around 1:00 PM, a half hour before closing time and the place was fairly busy with most locals here. I sat myself at an open table and a waitress arrived and offered me coffee. The Coffee ($1.25) was brewed just right. Roland was also helping out and took my breakfast order. I ordered the Mexican Omelet ($7.99) served with home fries and toast. The food was served in under 10 minutes. The omelet was HUGE and thick which was a soft & firm circular egg (blended with greeen peppers & onions) and folded over & stuffed with homemade chili, tomatoes, & melted cheese, very small cups of salsa & sour cream on the side. The omelet was very filling to eat and the chili was very hearty with big chunks of ground beef & plenty of kidney beans. The home fries were lightly grilled and seasoned with salt. The homemade buttered wheat toast ($0.50 additional) was very good. Overall, breakfast was very good and the portions were good sized. The service was okay on this visit, as the staff was more focused on trying to get ready for closing, restocking & cleaning tables. I finished my first cup of coffee in the middle of breakfast, but was not offered a refill during the meal. I did ask for more coffee after I finished breakfast and settled up on the dropped off check and a fresh refill of coffee was given, just what I really needed to start up the rest of my day in Maine. Back in town and had to stop in to my favorite cafe. As usual the service was awesome, food was excellent and prices still reasonable. They've started a new cute service for regulars, coffee cups with your name on them, hope I can get one. Really, you won't be disappointed.
