We have been coming to Famous Dave's since they opened and loved it...not so much anymore. We've given it three more chances to not suck and guess what? It sucks. The host was awesome, really nice young man. Our waiter whom we've had twice now is rude and really could care less whether he serves you or not. Got our order wrong, dumped a drink in my moms lap and didn't even offer a towel. Actually turned around and left our table. The food was terrible. Ribs were dry and over cooked. Brisket was rubbery and dry. Chicken was fatty and gross. Now owned by Dunkin Donuts' owners....stick to coffee, you don't know nothing 'bout BBQ. We won't be back

Oh man what a disappointment. We were looking for some quality BBQ around the area and stumbled on this one actually. I had heard some good things about this place and even had some at a Portland Chamber event that I attended that they catered that was pretty good. We stepped into the restaurant and first impression was not a very good one. There was no hostess for almost 5 minutes and we just stood there looking to be seated. We were then flagged down by what seemed to be a manager and they took us to seat us. So, first we asked to sit in the lounge area where there are some TV's and they said yes with a huff and a puff. We then saw that they had outside seating and asked if we might be able to sit out there and they told us no because there is no one else out there. Wait, what? The weather was nice and sunny and we can't sit out there because there is no one else out there right now? This was simply because the bartender didn't want to have to go outside to serve us. So, then we wanted to dive into some good grub because we were starving. When the bartender came over to ask us what we wanted to drink after reading the extensive drink specials in mixed drinks and beer selection. When we answered water and a soda, she looked like her cat died and she even rolled her eyes. Throughout the entire meal, we felt that the tender was taking more time flirting with the three dudes sitting at the actual bar then she did us, the water ordering couple who wont make her any money ;) We then ordered the burnt ends for a dessert to get the BBQ rollin' And they took about 20 minutes to come to the table and then they were really not all that great when we did get them. My wife got the brisket that she liked and thought was pretty good which is why we gave it 2 stars here with this review. I got the ribs and they were almost meatless. I was so surprised and think they might have been working on the bottom of the barrel of the ribs (although it was the beginning of the morning). One of the cool things is the fact that they do have an assortment of delicious tasting sauces at the table that my wife and I had a great time trying and diving into. Just wish that they incorporated some of that flavor blasting in with the food itself. I guess, as I lived down south in Georgia for a while, where they have BBQ coming out of their ears, I can't expect too much from Scarborough, Maine but I did think that they would have more here. Famous Dave's is a national chain that does have certain standards that you would think would translate to the service and the food at all the restaurants. I wish we had a better experience here. If they could work on their attentiveness, service and flavor in the food, it might have been a better experience. So, with that being said, I don't think we will be back to give it another try.

This place was just ok. I got the nachos with pulled pork. They were not what I expected. You pretty much had to eat them with a fork or spoon as they cover the top of them with lettuce and some kind of dressing, so it's almost impossible to just pick up a chip and eat it. The top was very cold, and all the hot stuff was underneath. It was super salty too. My husband got the brisket, and it tasted like roast beef. We had to get up and get the BBQ sauces ourselves. Probably wouldn't go back.

For a long time this was one of my favorite fast food places. Rumor has it that it has a new owner and already I can see a change for the worse. Drinks are weak, food quality is down and staff morale is not good. I hope the new management figures it out soon before I decide not to go at all anymore.

Being decidedly full of seafood this week I decided to try this place. Back home we can get the sauce but there are no restaurants. After deciding what I wanted from their website I visited. This location has a to go order door, so I went in there. Fella behind the counter was very pleasant and after ordering he said it would be about 15 minutes. For dinner hour on a Thursday, I did not mind. I ordered a combo with traditional wings and Carolina pork. About five minutes later I had my order and was out the door, pleased. The food was pretty tasty. The pork had a nice smoked flavor and the serving was ample. It was really tasty, almost to the point of needing to add extra sauce was superfluous. Those that complained of the food being too salty obviously do not understand smoked flavor. The wings could have been a little more crispy and they could have given you more than four. The devil spit flavor sauce was just spicy enough but not overpowering. I was particularly impressed with the coleslaw. It had just enough bite to it that I did not need to add pepper as I usually do. The corn muffin was also pretty tasty. They also provide additional packets of sauce on a self serve basis if you need extra. Nice. Overall, good place to visit for BBQ. I will go again when I return to Maine in the spring. Four stars for the small wing portions that needed to cook just a tad longer.
Went for lunch today, Sunday, seated right away with two little ones. Great waitress understanding the needs of 2 young ones and 4 hungry adults . Thus service was great and the kids enjoyed their food. I can only comment on my wife's food, pulled pork sandwich which was tasteless and soggy. I make my own and she is spoiled I guess. The fries were great! I ordered the 1/3 St Louis Ribs and one meat side, Memphis Rib Ends. The ribs had no meat on them and little taste . But the rib ends were meaty, tasty and fantastic. I doubt if we will ever try them again .

Great BBQ food with enormous portions. Wait staff are always courteous and efficient and prices are reasonable. Carry out options are great, especially for their corn muffins

Service is slooooow. We went there for our 5th anniversary lunch and did more waiting than eating. Our appetizer and toddler's meal arrived quickly. However, we were then left waiting for almost an hour for our entrees to come out, with no apology or explanation from the staff. And when our entrees finally came out, they were not served at the same time. My husband got his meal first. How romantic for an anniversary dinner! We like Famous Dave's food very much; however, the service at this location needs some serious overhaul. We had been planning to use them to cater an upcoming party, but today's experience left a bad taste in our mouth. Definitely won't let them ruin another special occasion for us.

We stopped here on our way home from an ice race, so we were tired and starving. We needed a good meal to recharge us for the rest of the trek home to Connecticut. The inside of this place reminded me of a Red Robin. The five of us ordered a plate of nachos and the All America BBQ feast. It was more than enough food to feed all of us. The food was pretty good. I wasn't blown away, but I was happy and most importantly completely full.

I was planing on relaxing dinner with 3 other friends and couple of beers, thought their snacks will be perfect for it...well, not so quick. They decided that my Maine ID (issued 2 years ago) does not look real (I am 29 by the way, thanks for the compliment). Manager got involved, we waited for her attention for about 20 minutes and she brought her verdict: i cannot trust it, it does not look real. She was provided with other picture ID but by then, apparently, i was not trustworthy anymore (or they are just doing so well that can drive customers away like nothing else). She explained to us that they had issue recently, somebody end up being a set up.... I was wondering how is that my problem? Well, they made it mine. Luckily my friends were nice enough (and frustrated by then, with the attitude and avalanche of random legal words), that they got up and suggested to try other place. Now, guess, when we are coming back for relaxing, stress free dinner there?;)

Famous Dave's was cruising for a three star Yelp review, but the manager on duty secured them a solid two stars. Here's the low down: We came in a little road weary and plenty hungry. We were seated promptly, our server was great and had us drinks in no time. We ordered the rib tips to start, and they were ok. The amount of cartilage in the majority of the pieces was a little overwhelming, and in the end there was not a lot of meat to be had in the dish. No worries, though, and the mains had arrived. My chopped pork was a little bland, but with some of the sauces on the table, it perked up. My corn on the cob, however, was so water logged that it was soggy - not a crisp or crunch to be found. So imagine my surprise when I realize that the centre of the cob was frozen. When our server came back to check on us, I let her know that the corn was soggy/frozen. She apologized and asked if she could get me anything else. I asked if I could simply have the bill adjusted, and she told me she'd have to ask her manager. The manager came over in a huff, repeated my story to me, and said to me "well that's strange, I wonder how it could be soggy and cold at the same time," in a tone that implied I was lying. No apology. Just a straight up hand-on-my-hip cop-an-attitude interaction that lasted all of 15 seconds. I was floored, but at least she made it even easier to decide to cross Dave's off of my stop-in-a-pinch list.

Famous Dave's has the best BBQ of any chain restaurant I've ever been too. I'm glad to see that more of them are opening up across the country. Their smoky flavor is perfect. You have your choice of several traditional BBQ sauces, sweet, spicy and everything inbetween. There are many sides to choose from, the beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese are all favorites. The cornbread is excellent. I am partial to the pulled pork and ribs. They make great wings too. Enjoy.

This is one of the worst BBQ joints I have ever been in. You can tell that whoever has dropped the ball. We knew we were in for it when other tables around us complained about everything. That and the server was first day on, obviously. She didn't know how to upsell or pick up used items on the table such as empty beer bottles. She would just leave us there for 20 minutes at a time and seemed not to care about getting a good tip. It was strange. The "manager" also could barley do her job. She assessed the problems but did nothing to fix them. The food, oh yeah, the burnt end sandwich. Cubed meat on a roll is not good idea for when you pick it up it just falls apart. The meat was definitely burnt, and fatty and just not that great. The brisket was overly salted and fatty. The beans wasted like straight from a can, no smoky flavor at all.The only items that I didn't hear a complain about was the chicken and the fish. Was not impressed by there 700 awards I must say. They have a LONG way to go to bring this place up to par

I've been to a Famous Dave's location near Buffalo, NY a few years and enjoyed it so I was pleasantly surprised to find this one in Maine on a recent visit to Portland. I'm a born and raised New Englander so I'm not a BBQ aficionado as many southerners are. Nevertheless, I like Dave's far above all the other BBQ chain places, and with slim pickings for BBQ in New England, Famous Daves does a really decent job. I've enjoyed everything I've tried there (ribs, pulled pork, brisket) and I like the variety of BBQ sauces at the table. I just wish there were more locations in N.E. as this is the only one. Very decent food and the servers were attentive and pleasant... what more can you ask for?

I did not have a good experience, when I stopped to Famous Dave's in Manchester NH a number of years ago. So though after seeing a ad on tv to give a try with my 2 sons who love to eat 22 and 18.. So we stop into this location. We got seated right away. We started with the BBQ Nacho's.. .. Everything tasted very processed.. Not much meat in this appetizer.. skippy at best For our meals we ordered combo plates for our meals.. Not very impressive.. everything tasted as it was heated up out of a can from the baked beans that were not very warm to the meat on our plates that tasted salty and all of the bbq was very sugary .. very processed. You can tell that not much prep is going on in this kitchen. With so many better places to eat in Portland I would give this place a pass.. Not sure who is reviewing there food on the tv commercials.. And for those of you giving this place hi reviews on here.. I feel for you as you have been missing out on some great places to settle for this...

Famous Daves signature brisket, what it is known for. Well, if you like your brisket served luke warm, dry and no flavor. Then this is the place for you. Oh, by the way. They charge $4.00 for a 12 oz. bottle of Bud Lite. Twice as much as any Bar in town. Go figure. But I must say, the pork is good. And the sides are ok too. But hey, you can get sides anywhere. I went there for the beef......I was disappointed.

I don't do chains, but where else in Maine can you get BBQ? Anyways... our waitress was a very sweet lady, I think Sue? We liked her. The food was okay, the only thing I would say that was SUPER delicious was their corn bread muffins UNFFFFF (happy noise) was just so yummy. I could have eaten a dozen, or at least tried. Their roast chicken in their All American feast was the most fall apart piece of meat we had that night Moist, tasty and good. Their chopped pork good, a bit dry to me though. Their ribs were good, but not GREAT. I have this image of ribs melting in my mouth.. no melting here. The least best thing we had were the short rib tips or whatever (the app). It just didn't taste so pleasant overall, but it was nicely covered up by the many sauces they have. Their mac & cheese is OK. Too much stuff going on with the corn AND jalapeno. One or other please. It wasn't cheesy enough for me after you add the corn and jalapeno everything just kind of mixxes and no distinct cheesy goodness for me. I don't like slaw, but I liked theirs, enough mayo, sweet, nice, cold and crisp. their potato wedges are standard, as is their onion strings. I agree to someone else saying their corn is boiled to death as it was a little wrinkly looking. We had tons of leftovers. I wouldn't say its a great meal, but it was okay, and the price for portions are pretty good. Their drinks are strong, or my mom is a super wimp. She needed a little siesta after her 1 mudslide. Oh since we were first time comers to Famous Dave's the manager actually gave us a free bottle of sauce to take home. I thought that was pretty nice. Overall, very friendly staff and service which made the overall experience a lot better.

Have been here a few times traveling on 95 in Maine or visiting cabelas. Ribs and brisket have always been tender and juicy. No complaints on that. Mac and cheese is very good side as it has a little spice to it from jalapeño . Beer at bar always ice cold.

Two visits in 1 week may be all you need to know about our liking Famous Dave's. First visit was a weeknight, arrived around 6pm. No line, no waiting. Our server was nice and willing to answer questions from this BBQ joint skeptic. (I'm not much for ribs or wings, although DH and his buddy are). We enjoyed our meal - the guys both had 1/2 portions of ribs, I did a salad. DH's buddy grabbed the check so I don't know what the total was, but I'd say it was ok. 5 days later and DH and I stopped by for noon lunch. Short 2 minute wait for a table (party ahead had a bigger group so host had to take extra time to push two tables together, thus our wait). We had a different waiter and he was awesome. Brought out some BBQ chips so we could taste the various sauces. He was also good at mentioning "add ons" but not pushing them hard when we said we knew what we wanted. Today it was all about the ribs. DH and I split a full rack. The price for the rack was good ($25 and that includes 2 sides), but the cost for icetea ($3.50 each) and an additional side ($2.50) and a very small portion made those prices a bit too much.

My wife and I were excited to unexpectedly happen upon this Famous Dave's in Maine after having dined at FD's many times in Minnesota, as well as in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before they flopped there. We were even FD's stockholders in the past. I ordered the Georgia chopped pork and beer battered cod with broccoli side. The pork was HORRIBLY SALTY and barely edible. I was very disappointed. I did a Google search "Famous Dave's salty" and was amazed at the many similar comments. Why are they not listening to their customer's feedback? The price and the service were good but the food was so bad that I may not ever go back.

Yes, I know, it's a chain restaurant. But in my opinion, it's a damn good one. We come here each time we visit Maine; it's definitely a crowd-pleaser. I can only speak to the "Feasts" (and the wings) on the menu, because it's the only thing we've ever gotten. According to the menu, the "Feast" feeds either 2-3 or 4-6, depending on which portion size you order. Last night, my family of myself and three men got the larger feast, and we left with a doggie bag of two meals. It's basically a bbq sampler: chicken, pulled pork or brisket, bbq beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw, steak fries, corn muffins, ribs...I think I covered it all! We started with wings - pineapple something-or-other, advertised as being the second hottest on the menu. They lived up to that, in my view, but my stepson thought they were more on the "medium" side. So long as you're not a vegetarian, there should be something in the "feast" for you. But if you're a vegetarian, don't come here. The waitstaff, through its attire, is unapologetically unwelcoming to vegetarians, carrying such slogans on its shirts as "Vegetarians are welcome...to eat elsewhere." It's cute and part of the chain's charm. My only complaint? The service is pretty slow.

So my brother and I stopped by this place after visiting Cabella's. Oh my gosh was the food here amazing! Service was very nice. We were seated extremely promptly and we were served water, upon request, immediately. The waiter came by every 5 to 10 minutes to make sure everything was alright and kept us in high spirits! Let's move on to the food! This place is famous for their smoked and BBQ ribs. My brother and I ordered half a feast for around $35. This was half of the feast order. What we got was half a country-roasted chicken, 6 ribs, fries, coleslaw, 2 cornbread muffins, pulled pork, and some other side order I do not remember. The full feast was like $55, and double all of this. They let us switch out the coleslaw and other sides for 2 sides which we wanted (Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Mac and Cheese). The ribs were amazingly delicious, although it is sad to say they did not have much meat ;[. I enjoyed them, you can definitely taste the smokiness. I wish they did have more meat though. The chicken was amazing. It was just roasted chicken; the meat was juicy and easy to pull off. There was lots of flavor and it complemented the order very, very well. The Mac and Cheese was rather disappointing I'd have to say. They were very cheesy, but was not sweet at all. If you like sweet mac and cheese, definitely do not order this. The Mashed Sweet Potatoes was a very delicious dish. I would order this again 10 times out of 10! (Side dishes were all $2.50 I believe, but 2 of them are free with the half feast) The French Fries were thick, salty, crispy and amazingly delicious! After I was full with my meal, I could not stop eating this!! Must eat~ The Cornbread Muffin was delicious. It tasted just like any other cornbread muffin and was very satisfying to drink water after eating one! It's very filling, so definitely save it until the end of your meal haha. The Pulled Pork was scrumptious, juicy and very easy to eat! I probably would not have ordered it just alone, but it complemented the feast very well. I gave them a 4 star, because the value was okay (my brother and I couldn't finish the $35 half-feast although we are two individuals who eat a lot.) The ribs were scrumptious, but I wish they had more meat!! All in all, a good experience, and a little heavy on the wallet.

I'll go with the 3 stars but would prefer a 2.5. Service was just fine. Food was good and not so good. I quite liked the ribs; they had a good smoky flavor and came off he bone quite well and the seasoning was tasty. The chicken was also a highlight as it was moist and well cooked. I think the win here is the chance to test the variety of BBQ sauces. tangy, sweet, spicy, peppery, mustardy, a combination of them, etc. My personal favorite was the Texas BBQ sauce as it had a peppery taste to it. Not spicy hot but a tiny bit of heat. The beans were pretty good. Also their BBQ seasoned chips were good. The medicore include the hush puppies, the boneless wings or whatever they are called, the brisket, and the slaw. The bad was certainly the corn: overcooked and boiled not grilled. I'd eat it again but go straight to the chicken and ribs! However, I've had better and if I knew of better in Portland I'd go there.

Chain restaurant or not... this place is amazing. The St.Louis ribs are sensational. I've never had ribs this good before. The smoked brisket is tender and delicious. I wish they provided you with some sort of roll or bread like so many other restaurants, but they more than make up for it in the quality of the food. And the portions are generous as well. Definitely in my top 10 dining favorites!

I'd heard tons of people rave about this place, and I love me some BBQ, so I headed over one Friday night with my BFF Jill ( in actuality her name is Maria, but that BFF Jill commercial kills me every time!) Anyway, I was really not impressed. It took almost 30 min for us to get our drinks. Yes, just our drinks... apparently they were having issues with fake IDs, however we're both in our mid-20's, so what started out as an ego boost, quickly grew to be quite an annoyance. Our IDs were passed from one person to another and another, with no progress being made. I guess no one knew what to look for (perhaps that was the issue with fakes being used there?? Just a thought!) Finally the service manager came over and explained the situation, and I told her that at this point I'd just take a soda... she apologized and our drinks arrived shortly there after. Our food arrived almost immediately after our drinks, and to put it nicely, was not good. We both ordered the rib tips, and were perplexed to find the rib tips had bones... the whole point in ordering the tips was to avoid the bones. They were extremely difficult to eat since because of their small size picking them up was almost impossible, but so was eating them with a fork because of the bones. And the meat was pretty dry. Add to that the mac and cheese had no taste and you have two unhappy campers! I guess Dave is famous for bad BBQ??

I really like this place, and find it to be one of the better chains around. The wings are good, the brisket sandwich is good, the cornbread muffins are good, and in my opinion, the ribs are really good. Just beware of portion size - most meals are way too big for one person. Overall, it's really good for what it is.

Chain restaurants and good BBQ can't go together. Keep trying...the meats were dry and flavorless and the sides were bland. No yummy in this guys tummy..I'm a fat kid at heart and love me some BBQ but this place will not be on my come here to eat list.

I've eaten at Famous Dave's numerous times over the years. We even ordered catering from them a few years ago for our rehearsal-dinner-slash-housewarming BBQ. Unfortunately, the place seems to be on a downward slope (either that, or my tastes have gotten better). /// PROS (or "Why I keep coming back!"): * Drinks: For beer, they offer local selections as well as national brands, which I can appreciate. The mixed drinks here are all fabulously tasty. I typically get Sweet Mama's Punch, even though I like my drinks on the sour side usually. The bar is a great area to sit if you're eating (or just drinking) because it has plenty of TVs to catch a game and plenty of space to have room for your food. * Service: We've always had good service here, some go above and beyond and become great servers, but for the most part, it's good-- your drinks are filled as you wait, you're checked on frequently (but not too much), your check comes quickly, etc. * Sauces: Their sauces are absolutely delicious. If you've never been before, or you get a nice server, they will bring out some BBQ chips and a tasting plate to try the different sauces. My favorite is the classic Rich 'N Sassy while hubby loves the Georgia Mustard. * Corn Bread Muffin: I don't know how they do it. Yes, it's not really a traditional corn bread (it's much sweeter, and not at all dry) but these muffins are so delicious. VIP TIP: You can order a half-dozen and pick them up on your way home when you're having relatives over for a big Sunday dinner. ;) /// CONS (or "Why on earth do I keep coming back?"): * Portions: Plates are huge. I know some people like this, but I really don't. I'd rather have smaller bites that are delicious than a huge plate of food that I can't finish and will taste awful in the microwave later. There's been more than one occasion where we have chosen to go elsewhere for dinner because we weren't "Famous Daves hungry" (our inside code name for "absolutely-famished-and-my-stomach-will-soon-be-eating-itself hungry"). * Taste: I usually get the same thing when I come here, because I can trust it. It's a very boring choice--Dave's Famous Burger. My mother-in-law and husband always get pulled pork, and I usually pick at some of their chicken if they get 2 meats with their dish. There's something bland about the taste on most of their food that I have tried. It's a little under-seasoned (if it's even seasoned). It pretty much requires you to dip (or douse) your food in their sauces... which I don't really mind because I love the sauce, but the food should stand on its own, right? Even their Famous Fries (a close relative of steak fries) come to the table tasting like a boring potato. /// OVERALL: We'll probably end up back here again a few months from now, especially if we're not in the mood for pizza (otherwise we'll go to Portland Pie in the same plaza).. and it is pretty good if you just want a BBQ taste to fill your belly... but I much prefer to stop here on an errand, buy a few bottles of sauce and make my own BBQ chicken, meatballs, burgers, etc. at home.

First, keep in mind that Dave's a chain, and chains are rather formula-bound. That said, our experience was decidedly a cut above any formula. We were greeted promptly, and our request for a booth was immediately honored. In fact, when my wife asked to be placed in a different booth because the lighting was low where we were, the waitress scooped everything up and whisked us right to a new booth. Not too shabby. Since I was driving, my beverage was the sweetened ice tea. Sweetened Ice Tea in Maine? I thought, you've got to be kidding me, but "pop" there it was, and, it was rather decent. My wife indulged in the regular Margarita, on the rocks, with salt. It came in a large globe and trust me, it tasted yummy and kicked like a mule. I ordered a half-rack of the "award winning ribs", my wife, who spent a great deal of her early adulthood in San Antonio, Texas, went straight for the brisket. And the results are.... I once again proved to myself that dry ribs are not what I really enjoy. However, they were flavorful, done to perfection and, with the application of some of the many types of sauce that is provided at the table, were a real treat. Even better, when I re-heated the leftovers the next day, they tasted even better. The Brisket almost brought my wife to tears. All she kept saying was "delicious. Oh, my goodness, this is so good. Oh, delicious." So, I guess she liked them, and it looks as if they compared quite favorably to what you can get in the heart of BBQ land. The sides were a mixed bag - although none were bad. The beans were very tasty. The coleslaw was coleslaw. The potato salad was great. The string beans very tasty. The cornbread comes as a muffin and was both moist and tasty. So, all in all, a good meal. Service was fine. My tea was refilled, as was the water and our server stopped-by three times. Now, how many times can you expect someone to ask if your ribs are okay? Time constraints prevented coffee and dessert, but they sure looked good. Next time.

After reading some of the other reviews I wonder if we just hit it on a good day but our family of four had a blast. It was the first time we had ribs and they were excellent. Kids eat free on Mondays was a very nice surprise. We had excellent service and I love the atmosphere.

Riding around looking for a place to eat, we stopped in to try their BBQ. Service was friendly but a bit on the slow side - more a kitchen issue. Had the rib tips even though we were warned by our server that they were hit or miss. There was a mix of rib types in there - those that were on a bone had some good flavor. The boneless ones tasted like shoe leather. BBQ brisket was tasty though a bit on the dry side - still ok. Corn bread ok. Beans good. Mac and cheese pretty dry. In sum: just didn't really do it for me.

Everything is good here. In my top picks for wings. Beef brisket was super dank. Moist cornbread. And to top it off some great sauces to top it off.

My girlfriend and I stopped in here after an afternoon shopping trip to Cabelas after my only other food option in the newly built plaza was a Thai restaurant. The location was easy to get to and right off of the Maine pike (exit 42). We were seated quickly in a booth and had a very energetic waitress. I went with the advertised RibZilla glazed beef short rib. The thing was huge and was only able to finish about half. I sampled all of the 6 dipping sauces which I loved them all. I was able to take home a sample of all 6 for my leftovers. I'll probably end up buying a bottle of the Sweet & Zesty. The sides however were the only marginal part of the meal. The corn on the cob was small, there weren't many fries included, and the coleslaw was bland. Probably not the best BBQ spot in the country, but great for an afternoon in Maine.

I was very disappointed in this place. I had the brisket sandwich which was very dry and stringy. I haven't seen smoke coming from the place so it makes me wonder if this is a freezer to microwave kind of place. I don't think I'll be stopping there again the next time I visit Cabelas.

My girlfriend and I had lunch here today. The place was not to crowded at 1:30. Smelled like barbeque going in. Lots of vintage signage on the walls. Fabulous Kristin was our server, she was very friendly and gave us suggestions. We ordered drinks and decided on the lunch meat combos. Two meats and a side. We got different meats and sides so we could share. We got brisket, Ribs, chicken wings, dirty rice and potato salad for sides. They also come with corn bread muffins. My girlfriend loved them. All the food was very good, the way barbeque should be. The tables also had the sauces on them to use as you like. Had a great time and I would go back for more!

I'm no expert in the art of barbeque but I do know a little as I smoke my own ribs, sausages, and the occasional brisket. The first time I went to FD's in Scarborough was with a colleague and I ordered the spareribs. They were terribly overcooked, to the point of being dry. The ribs were smothered in sauce which wasn't half bad, but didn't disguise the ribs' dryness. My colleague had some sort of spicy/sweet chicken wings...he liked those. Service was ok but when I mentioned that I thought my ribs were burnt and dry, the waiter answered that that was how they made them there. The second visit was on 7/14 with my family. I ordered the beef brisket and pulled pork combo...pretty good I thought. My wife, against my counsel, ordered the baby back ribs. Again...burnt ribs. When she complained the waiter pointed out that that's how they made them there (different waiter same answer). He went on to try and explain the nuisances of smoke rings, nitrates, etc. It didn't change the fact that this place, known for their ribs, made some of the most overcooked and overpriced ribs that I've ever had. Will not return.

The food was OK, but not the best barbeque we've ever had. The chopped pork and the brisket were both very salty. The garlic mashed potatoes had a paste like consistency. The corn on the cob was overcooked. The other sides with the exception of the baked beans were adequate. The baked beans, however. were the highlight of the meal. Very tasty with just a little spicy kick. The food was OK, but we won't be rushing back.

Famous Dave's - not known for service Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 By Al - Jul 20, 2010 Famous Dave's Scarborough, ME should be infamous Dave's!! Great barbeque, Good portion sizes. Down right horrible service. Totally an unsatisfying experience. Kitchen could not support single orders for either of the two different steak entrees on the menu. In addition, macaroni & cheese for the kid's meal was scrubbed about 20 minutes after the order had been placed.Coupled with a 70+ minute wait to see our meals and cold side disheswhen it finally came, made for a culinary disaster. While the comped deserts were a nice move by the manager it was negated by erroneous charges on the bill for portions not served.( They remembered to charge but did not serve our coffee). Eventually the entire bill, less drinks, was comped without an explanation or apology. This was the first time in over 50 years of eating out that I have found it necessary to complain to management. Totally an unsatisfying experience.

On vacation and very hungry. We seen the commercial on t.v. as we where thinking of a place to go. The food here was perfect in everyway. The prices are good, but the portions are big. The Fire-N-Ice tea was the perfect drink with the St. Louis Ribs and Georgia Brisket. My wife got the baby backs, with bbq chicken. It was awesome. The burnt ends appetizer melts in your mouth. The staff was excellent and even went above and beyond. Our car batteries died while we where eating and they tried to help jump us, but the battery was too far dead. So one of the managers gave my brother in law a ride to O'Rileys down the road to buy a.new battery. That was awesome. There is nothing enough good things I can say about this place. Hope they open one up closer to where I live. Thank you to the staff at this particular Famous Dave's.

We stopped here to order takeout. I went in and told the host that I wanted to order takeout and he sent me into the bar. Strike one! I don't want to have to fight the drinkers and servers to place an order with a bartender. Why couldn't the host get me a waitress? So, I ordered with the drink-stained bartender and she told me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Strike two! More than half an hour later, the food was finally ready. My wife had gone inside at twenty minutes to get the order. Not only was it not ready, she had to put up with a rude bartender and a lecherous bar slob trying to catch her eye. Strike three and more! I finally get the food. My dish was cold and my wife's was lukewarm. Why? It should have just come out of the oven. Where's my salad dressing? What, no utensils? You mean they forgot the wet wipes? I had to go back into the bar twice to retrieve the missing items. The dressing she gave me was enough for ten salads and that is a waste. I asked for salt and pepper and she said that it was in the package of utensils. Nope! My wife's combo platter had many inedible parts. My chicken on a salad was nothing special, but at least it was fresh. If you have children, be prepared to show them the bar since the restrooms are located in the bar. Isn't this a family restaurant? We will not return to this place and we highly recommend you skip this place. There are so many better choices in the area.

Went to famous Dave's for the first time tonight and I ordered a Margarita and is was salty and got and me and a friend got our food and it was cold and we had to have our meals replaced and then our second round of meal were still cold and the brisket sucked it was not a good experience at all.

As close to Texas BBQ as you're gonna get in Maine. This chain has a very comfortable, un-chainish vibe. The place is stocked floor to ceiling with kitsch but it doesn't give me that Applebee type uneasiness I get if I happen to stumble into one of those joints. The burnt ends are the best they can do up here, but they are still tasty in their own way. The ribs are nice and meaty (tee-hee) and the house bbq is sweet and flavorful. Six additional sauces are available, ranging from a sweet n zesty to a XXX HOT that I must say deserves all three X's. Lisa the bartender is at the top of her game, mixing drinks and conversation seamlessly; her happiness is contagious and we had a blast shutting the place down at 9 on a Sunday. (Today is a holiday ok?)) Maine trips are becoming a tradition and along with the obvious seafood and romps up and down Commercial St, stuffing our faces, Famous Dave's is now on our list written in bbq sauce.

Usually love the food here but....this time NOT. Ordered the feast for 2 that includes chicken, ribs, your choice of brisket or pulled pork, awesome fries, and corn. It also comes with corn muffins, beans and slaw. Ordered the catfish app--nicely seasoned and fresh, a squirting of lemon and dip into that spicy roumalade...heaven on a plate! The issue was with the brisket---very fatty and just not up to their usual standards. They knew they had a problem with it because when we mentioned the brisket to the waiter, he knew it was fatty. We asked for the manager and he came out and said they were having trouble with their supply---why sell it if you know people are going to have a problem with it? Hope there are people who enjoy it and don't send it back? They did make it right with a side of pork,to take home with the leftovers. Still a good place for BBQ, nice funky atmosphere and good sweet tea.

Okay..this is the third try! I really just DO NOT like this place. My boyfriend insisted we try this place becasue he's never been. I warned him I wasn't a fan..They sat us at a table way in the back. It was so freaking cold we had goosebumps for the first half an hour. There was an enormous vent above us blowing out freezing cold air. I had a jacket. My boyfriend did not..He was FROZEN. He actually got up to warm up. He's way too polite and would not move..I'm not. I got up and moved our table about 10 feet away from the vent..that didn't work. Finally, i got up and asked to move and they moved us away to another table. And, tell us that happens all the time..Then why would you seat people there??? It's pouring rain outside and only 50 degrees and you have AC blasting on people. Our waitress was brand new and really sweet. Our food was not. It didn't sit so well all night either. I was up the entire night with the worst stomach ache..I won't be going back to Dave's anytime soon...

Horrible takeout! OMG, second time we tried their takeout. Aside from having to scream the order in the bar, the food was 25 minutes late from the time promised. Ordered the lunch special of two meats (Texas brisket was the end piecs, dried out, inedible and sitting on a piece of white bread, served cold; St Louis ribs a little better, although had the consistency and taste of Chinese sweet & sour ribs, slightly warm), corn bread (only thing hot) and potato salad. Not a cheap place. To feed a family of 4 is over $60. Will never eat at this location again.

The tables aren't big enough for all the food and things they put on your table. Service is fine. Food is just okay. As for my last visit: the restaurant had a sulphur smell. my friend and I got violently ill a few hours after eating there. The next day we were still sick so I called the the state to complain, and they told me to call the CDC. The woman at the CDC said that it's not uncommon for people to get food poisoning here. She told me that this restaurant was being watched for cases of people getting more sick than just 3 days of diarrhea. I was told to keep my leftovers in case the CDC needed samples. They called me the next day and told me it was okay to dispose of them because they had plenty of samples from other people. Unless you want 3 days of painful abdominal cramps and diarrhea, STAY AWAY!

I have been here several times and the food is usually good but not great. I recently went with my family and my mother ordered the salmon and it was raw!! They corrected the problem quickly and brought her out a new entrée but this is not make up for the fact that they served under cooked seafood! I saw the server show the raw fish to the manager and he did not come out and offer any sort of consolation. That was the last time I will frequent this restaurant.

YUM BBQ. Good place to stop on the road back to MA from ME. Excellent ribs.

Enjoy.
(5)Pool D.

(2)Karl J.

(2)Dani W.

/// OVERALL: We'll probably end up back here again a few months from now, especially if we're not in the mood for pizza (otherwise we'll go to Portland Pie in the same plaza).. and it is pretty good if you just want a BBQ taste to fill your belly... but I much prefer to stop here on an errand, buy a few bottles of sauce and make my own BBQ chicken, meatballs, burgers, etc. at home.

First time here at Famous Dave's. Staff good and friendly. Got sat right away. Food was fast to arrive and was tasty. Beef brisket and ribs. Beans were really good too.

I'll go back. A lot of food. Good prices. Not tangy southern style - more of the honey flavor Northern people like. Service was fast.
(4)Steve W.
Loved this BBQ. Great service. Great food although ribs where not really hot. Sides were tasty. I will definitely return for another dinner. Can't wait to try out their other dishes.
(4)David B.

(2)Tami D.

Very good dinner- beef brisket was DELICIOUS -beans and cole slaw were great complements- our server Lindsey was exceptional and added to our positive experience. Will be back-

(1)Leona M.
