Stopped by here because I saw the sign for $5.99 lobster rolls. So far, the two that I had were the best that I've had. The place has a nice indoor and outdoor atmosphere; a good summer hangout. The building was fairly clean and well-lit. The staff were very friendly and service was prompt. Will definitely go back for more lobster rolls, and to try the ice cream. I do wish that they had had a menu so that I could see what the oddly-named ice cream flavors were instead of having to ask.

I cannot believe after 32 years of vacationing in Wells we just found this little gem. We ordered the lobster roll special with a cup of clam chowder for a total of 8.99. The lobster roll was filled with the freshest lobster meat I have had in a long time. And the portion was very generous. The clam chowder withstood the spoon test. Not only was it thick and creamy it was stocked with fresh clams not minced clams but large clams. One of the tastiest clam chowders I've had in Maine. We also ordered two hotdogs for their special of $1.75. Also excellent. We met the owner in May when we went there for the first time and he was extremely warm and came over to our table and we asked him about the history of this establishment. Our family will definitely go back again and again. Now for the ice cream. It was absolutely fantastic. We had coconut which was very creamy with lots of coconut and a triple chocolate which was also delicious. Once again portions are very generous.

Their ice cream is really good. My favorite there is probably cookie dough, but I usually go to Shaker Pond Ice Cream and get peanut butter paradise.

Tourist Attraction With Good Maine Style ice-cream. The location is almost great but It's kind of trashy. The food is amazing there though, I ordered the haddock and it was great. I decided to stay there for ice cream, and you wouldn't belive the prices they are so low. Classic Maine Restraunt With Original Clam Chowder which was delicious. When we got there the wait was kind of too much time but it was definitely worth it. I just don't like the location too much. The building was very trashy, and there was trash on the floor. We ate upstairs then went to their ice cream place that was kinda trashy. But it was yummy. Shainz is great for occasions for like meeting up with your friends. There is gigantic portions though for such low prices. I recommend this for big occasions with a large amount of people, when the building isn't trashy. Shain's is very tasty.

Lobsta Rolls, Hot Dogs, Ice Cream oh my! How about Turkey Dinner, Baked Haddock and Prime Rib? Our party of four hungry adults went to Shain's for dinner on a Saturday night. Are you kidding me!? Three tender and delicious orders of 8 oz., medium rare Prime Rib (each with a choice of potato and vegetable) and a Chicken Finger Plate later, we were stuffed, satisfied and shocked at the final tab. Is this fine dining? No. Is this a fine value? You bet! In addition to the four meals, we had refillable sodas and coffees all around capped with complementary mini-whoopie pie cupcakes and great service all for $55 and change. Can't wait to go back...for dinner!

You've got to get the brownie sundae -- warm brownie is great, hot fudge is great, and you get your choice of ice cream.

Worth a drive from the beaches

Standard ice cream place that attracts lots of locals. Lots of choices for where you will eat - out on the deck, inside or order from an exterior window. Conveniently situated next to a Thai restaurant for the deuce.

Haven't had a bad flavor yet! It is consistently delicious, full of flavor and every bite promises to be full of the mix-ins... you'll never have a bite of chocolate cookie without a cookie piece inside. The best part of summer is drippy, melted ice cream faces on my boys. If I have a choice those faces will be covered with only Shain's ice cream!

Awful. Ice cream was very soft falling out if the cone. First we ordered butter crunch and were advised it was too soft so we changed to a chocolate. That came with a bowl since it was too soft. Smurf was also falling out of its cone. I ended up bringing the chocolate back to the window as it was just drippy. Was offered another flavor but at this point was not feeling like their ice cream was actually frozen. Did not get my money back either. Maybe they can use the $ towards making the freezers colder

Not the best. I felt very judged by the girls working there.

This place has $5.99 lobster rolls. Yes, you are reading that price right - $5.99 lobster rolls! You're probably thinking there has to be something wrong with a lobster roll for that price, but there isn't. They are packed with real Maine lobster meat and are absolutely delicious. I don't know how they are able to charge that little, but I am not complaining.

Use caution. We went to the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and were told it was going to be a half hour wait. This would not be a problem besides the fact that the wait staff was loitering around. With only half the restaurant open (the upstairs was closed for some reason), they were very unprepared as a summer weekend lunch venue in a tourist area. Moral of the story: timing is everything, I guess.

A little let down when I stopped by this Friday. I got my usual java crunch, though still utterly delicious and great coffee flavor there was virtually NO CRUNCH. Where did it go? I went from complaining there was WAYYY too much of the stuff to NOTHING AT ALL? Come on Shain's, I rather you UP your prices than go down on quality. Maybe I just got a weird batch/scoop. Because I went a week before and I got the almond whatever one and there was TONS of almonds in there so why was there no crunch in my Java crunch? This is my last warning: Don't let me down or I'll have to give Shaker Pond one more try.

Shain's of Maine is one of my favorite places for ice cream. The homemade ice cream here is fantastic! They offers up to 59 flavors of hard ice cream, sherbets (5 flavors), yogurts (8 flavors), non fat no sugar (3 flavors) in cones or dishes plus sundaes, banana splits, floats, ice cream sodas, frappes, and shakes. Take home quarts available too. My favorite flavors are Blueberry, Java Crunch, and Smurf, sooo good and refreshing on a hot day. The prices here are reasonable for the good quality. Cones and dishes are $1.85 Childrens, $2.45 Single, $3.25 Double, and $3.95 Triple. If you come here in a group, definitely try The Wipeout Sundae ($9.25), which is choice of four ice cream flavors, four toppings, whipped cream, and four cherries. The place has outdoor takeout windows (seasonal), covered seating, and an inside parlor counter with worn out seating and black and white checkerboard floors and a bakery inside too!

This place has my name!! 5 Stars! Well, that's not atually why, but every time I come here I am required to take a picture eating my ice cream in front of the sign. Just a warning, the flavor to ice cream ratio seems to be about 1:1. This means that my cookie dough ice cream had half rich creamy vanilla ice cream and half thick globs of fresh cookie dough- no fakey little frozen cookie dough balls for Shain's. The same goes for the Oreo flavor and I would have to guess all the other ones too. The soft-serves are huge, much too much for the small child in our party who attempted to devour his and probably pretty big much for a grown up too. The sundaes have awesome fudge and an excess of whipped cream. Everything in excess, I say!! It's fabulous to order your ice cream at the window then go eat it by the beach, about 20 yards away. The 6 overflowing trash cans there are evidence as to how popular this place is, and the reputation is well deserved.

Wow, what a place! This is not fancy but what you get for the price is unreal! The lobster roll at 5.99 had as much meat as a lobster roll I had earlier this week in Wells for $17.00!, if you don't like lobster they have hot dogs at $1.00 each or $1.75 for 2! . You can't leave before you have there home made ice cream,it's the best hidden gem in Sanford. You must try it out,I know you want be dissatisfied.enjoy!

Except for some outstanding gelato on the Italian Riviera, the best ice cream I've had. Real ingredients and huge portions. 50+ flavors. Pleasant staff.

I'm stuck in Boston, where you can't get a decent ice cream for under 5 bucks or so, which makes me miss Shain's all the more. Even the kids sizes here are huge. Easily the best Indian and Frozen pudding ice creams I've ever had.

Shain's has the best prices for lobster rolls - in America!! It's insane...I couldn't believe my eyes. Maybe this isn't the best lobster roll you have ever had in your life, but the lobster is super fresh and delicious, and the price will blow your mind. $6.99?! This is incredible! I sprung for the lobster roll and a cup of chowder for $8.99 and what a deal it was for a fantastic lunch. The portions are generous and for this insanely low price, you would think the quality wouldn't be great - but the quality is AWESOME!! Shain's, I love you! I wish you weren't 6 hours away from my house.

I will never go back here. Years ago when my kiddos were toddlers up until at age 8 I'd go in numerous times a week. The little game room in back was always THE ultimatep hit for my boys. I witnessed one day unfortunately where a pie fell out of the box on the floors d the owner looked around, picked it up, put the pie back into the box and put it away. That was my last time of entering this place.

Came for the $6.99 lobster rolls and was not disappointed. Great price and the toasted roll was stuffed with lobster. Finished off the meal with a delicious scoop of butter pecan!! Definitely coming back!!

Was visiting a friend in the area an she said it was a must. Stopped by on Sunday, the place looks like a big barn-like building. There were a few people in line and we ordered at the window outside. I got the chocolate cookie dough and the brownie coffee, double size. First reaction- that's A LOT of ice cream!! It was a pint of ice cream!! The coffee brownie was good, but the cookie dough was awesome!!! There was some much cookie dough it was on the verge of being too much. The prices were very inexpensive! When in the area stop by!!

After spending a week in Maine this summer and eating lobster rolls almost every day (and never getting sick of them) I can honestly say that Shain's doesn't have THE BEST lobster rolls...however, they are seriously good, and among the best I had up there. Plus, as you might have read, there is the price, which is insanely cheap. You think a $5.99 lobster roll is going to be all mayo and no meat? Think again, at least at Shain's. The roll is perfectly buttered and toasted and just enough mayo is added to keep things together. For the mayo-averse, there is also the option of a "Connecticut style" roll using butter instead of mayo. The meat is fresh and flavorful. Oh, and you can also add on a cup of very good clam chowder bringing the total of the whole meal (sans drink) to just around $10. Yeah...I know...insanely great value. The staff here are very friendly, Shain himself is often there and introduced himself to our group and was also warm, friendly and welcoming. My only slight complaint is that the texture of some of the ice creams we tried (yeah, we went here three times in seven days) had a somewhat gummy texture. Still...$5.99 DELICIOUS lobster roll. Hell, when taking the price into account, this might actually be the best lobster roll in Maine.

What can I say? I love me some lobster rolls! Shain's does it simple, cheap and nearly perfect (there can always be more lobster!) I love that they offer the rolls w butter instead of mayo (your choice) and the price rivals a fast food sandwich. I have only had their ice cream in shakes, but the shakes rock pretty hard. The clam chowder is a nice way to round out your roll. Apparently the hot dogs are pretty tasty too. This place is cozy, no frills, deliciousness. I hope they always continue to be the least expensive, most delicious, source of lobster on a roll in York county!
