Burgers
Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. Most burger restaurants in the United States often serve hamburgers with French fries and other condiments. If you have a liking for burgers in the United States, then you won't be disappointed. Still awesome, stopped in yesterday ordered for my party of five. Everyone loved their burgers and fries. Consistency at Rapids Rays is a staple. I've been going to Rapids for close to 30 years, food and service is always great!

Everything is just really bland. The burgers and fries look very similar to McDonalds but don't taste nearly as good. They need to learn how season their gray meat. Very fast service. Be ready to tell them what you want on your burger. Order your fries crispy!
(2)Harry J.
Nothing Special. The staff have little to no personality so much that they could even be considered rude. The burgers are basic. It's a simple paper thin patty on a cheap...I mean really cheap bun. The coolest thing about the place is that it's local and its origin. To be clear I'm not a great cook but I could without question make a better burger. It's not bad. It's just not good.
(3)Joe Y.
Classic dog and burger. You feel like you're tasting history with every bit. Make sure to know what you're issuing when you get into line because they take the order far and the name it fast so that I it's hit and fresh for you to eat. Some might call the dog small so don't be afraid to order two. If you are looking for a burger, they don't disappoint. Take some time while you eat and appreciate the history.

This place was alright. Rapid Ray's is your typical old-style fast food burgers and dogs type place. Food was served fairly quickly and tasted decent. Also, the prices seemed fair. There's no indoor seating and a couple benches outside. This place reminds me a lot of Don's Lunch in Westbrook or Joe's Hot Dogs in Joliet. If I lived within walking distance, I'd come more often. But since I'm farther away, I'll likely be taking my business to other Biddeford/Saco food establishments. Rapid Ray's is not bad by any means, but there's just not enough there to make me come back.

To like this little slice of Americana, I think you have to be either a Saco townie or a drunk Thornton Academy boarder. The principle sounds nostalgic and fun: Paleo-fast food from the "good ole days" before McDonald's & Burger King. Well, this place informs you that the "fast food" of the time could be just as wretched as the burgers and fries that are served to this day on the ugly Rte. 1 strip which informs most people's opinion of Saco ME. I think my stomach spent the better part of a day recovering from the rancid fat that this joint cooks with. And I just don't fall into the flaccid steamed hot dog camp. This is the sort of place I would love to love, but just like Harmon's in Falmouth, the food just doesn't cut the mustard.
(1)Daniel M.
Wonderful burgers and fries...great hot dogs too. Okay so you don't have to be a Saco native to enjoy Rapid Rays...you just have to know what it's all about. First let me say that there are much better burgers and fries to be enjoyed in Maine but with that said I am still addicted to their food. It's a thin burger joint...buns nicely grilled...or get the hot dogs with celery salt. It's a place for those moments when you want an old fashioned hamburger joint moment. I definitely have those cravings...and a quick trip to Saco always satisfies that need.
(4)Alise K.
A quick burger and fries! Similar to Harmon's burgers in Falmouth , not quite as good though.
(4)Tom A.
Awesomeness on a bun! Great place to grab a snack on the way home. Quick, friendly and reasonably priced. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah a place to sit.
(4)Marc R.
This place is a 1950s burger shack. Nothing fancy. Not even the burgers are that great, but they are something that I try to get a hold of when I am back in Biddeford. If you are looking for fancy burgers look elsewhere. My aunts and uncles used to drive me here when I was a little kid. We would pile in the 1968 convertible and zoom over to Rapid Rays. I was just a kid but I do remember this place being cool and fun. When you wait in line you might pop in and meet an old friend. There are better burgers to be sure, but this is a must stop place for Biddeford.
(4)Joe F.
This place is a must for hamburger and hot dog lovers. It's not revolutionary by any means, but it's a homage to where hamburgers and hot dogs started. You can order things like a double cheeseburger (The Big One), chilli cheese dogs, cheese dogs, clam cakes, fries, onion rings, and a few more items. You get full choice of what they put on your dog/hamburger. They also sell some tasty whoopie pies made in the city next door, Biddeford. Stop in, and try a hot dog with some celery salt!
(4)Kris S.
Oh I wanted to enjoy the food here, but it was just gross. Clamcakes were too dry, yet oily. Hot dog wasn't hot and my friend's burger was plain nasty. We also saw the cook sneeze, wipe his nose, wipe the snot off his shirt, and keep on cooking! Not to mention that the older guy who took our order was hitting on me and my friend... Asking what we're up to tonight and decidedly looking at our chests the whole time. You're old, buddy -- leave us alone --we just wanted a quick bite. We tossed out our food after a few bites and went over to Run of the Mill, instead. Skip this place!
(1)Gloria W.
Rapid Rays is a Saco classic. Service is quick, food is hot and fresh. The hot dogs are THE reason to go here. So tasty on a nice warm bun. Other items on the menu such as burgers aren't the best, but tolerable. Stop in and grab a loaded hotdog or two with a little carton of chocolate milk. It's the best.
(4)Fred F.
Very fine burger and hot dog. Found the relish to be just a tad overpowering (unlike Harmons Lunch which is more subtle and complimentary)....would probably order without next time to fully appreciate the fine burger. In any event, very delicious and will be back. FYI....no seating inside, so you'll have to stand or head back to your car to chow down.
(4)Josh M.
I have been coming to this place since I was 6 with my Grandparents. And they have not disappointed yet. All these years later and I still order their hotdogs. In my opinion some of the best I've had from a restaurant.
(5)Savannah R.
Gross. I can seriously get a better burger at Burger King. The fries were okay, but weren't anything special. I couldn't even finish my burger. Just nasty.
(1)Joanne F.
Food was OK. More of an experience. This was on my 5 things to do last summer. I'm glad I did but don't think I need to run back anytime soon. I went in a couple of days after the 4th of July at about 12:00 in the afternoon with my 9 year old son. We were the only young (and I'm 42) people there at that time. Mostly older men throwing back multiple burgers before heading back to work. I got a burger and my son had a hotdog and chocolate milk. I think my son said it best when he said it was like good cafeteria food. There's no seating, well a couple of benches on the street but it was such a hot day we ate off the half counters that run along the exterior walls. I bet this would be a fun late night stop after a bar crawl, but for me I could get the same thing at anyone of the fast food places a little down the road for half the price.
(3)Jacob H.
Honestly the most overrated place on the planet. Thin McDonalds like burgers at Five Guys prices. When your drunk I'm sure it must be much better,
(2)Crystal H.
The food is always excellent, customer service is always great, and even when it's busy the wait isn't that long.
(5)Steve S.
loved it. the burgers were great, but the wedding party that showed up for a late night snack really made the night!
(4)Glenn C.
Rapid Ray's has, in my mind, only one equal: Mel's, all the way down in Tampa Bay, FL. Together, these two restaurants are the best hotdog vendors I've ever personally tried. Ray's hotdogs are simple and perfect- this is hotdog heaven for any purists out there. Upon first visit, you'll immediately see how the restaurant earned it's "rapid" moniker- your order will be filled within 30 seconds in a blur of relish, ketchup, and mustard. Served on split-top, New England style rolls, Ray's franks are steamed to perfectly cooked perfection. They also make hamburgers which are awesome, too. And this being Maine, what would an eatery be without lobster rolls on it's menu? Ray's variation is much like their hotdogs- simple, delicious, affordable, and prepared within seconds right before your eyes. My mother grew up in Maine, and ever since I was a little kid I've made the journey up there every August, at first with my family and now, over the last six years or so, with friends. No matter who I'm with or when I go, I always make at least one stop at Ray's. I highly recommend everyone else to do the same.
(5)Jenna L.
Love this place! I couldn't eat this food daily and maintain a decent wasteline, but a few times over the summer it's PERFECT!! And at 2AM, there's nothing better.. Chocolate milk and a delicious cheeseburger!
(5)Cristi R.
Nothing special. As one reviewer said, I've had better at Burger King. Burgers were eh and the fries were SO bland, we couldn't even finish them.
(2)Stuart K.
Burger was very good. But the fries! Oh the fries! Better than McDonald's! Rings were crispy. No inside seating is the only negative.

I am not ashamed to say that I am yelp-obsessed. I will rarely go anywhere these days before checking with you guys to see if it's worth it and to know what to expect. So per usual I read several reviews about Rapid Rays before deciding to stop by. All the reviews I'd read were pretty fantastic -- however I never once came across the fact that this place is pretty much take-out-only.... um, what? Lets start from the beginning. The hubby & I found the place via GPS with no problems. We found street parking and strolled into Rapid Rays on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. It wasn't super crowded, but it's probably still off season for them. There were two big windows for ordering, but only one was open. As we waited in the short line inside, we instantly noticed that there was literally not one chair or seat-like-structure inside the entire establishment. There are shallow shelves along the windows that you could stand at.... but lets be honest - who wants to stand and eat your lunch? Not us. (minus 1 star). Once it was our turn to order, the cashier was friendly enough. We ordered two hot dogs, a cheeseburger, a large fry and two drinks. Altogether it was $12 and change. Pretty fan-freaking-tastic pricing. A few minutes later, once the cook was done preparing our food, he came to the window and asked what toppings we wanted. I can imagine that gets fairly confusing when it's crowded in the summer time but it was fine for us, today. Once we had our food we ran back to our car to enjoy our lunch. (there are a few park benches outside the building but it was cold today so we passed on that option) The cheeseburger was good... a small patty, comparable to any fast food restaurant but it did seem fresher. The hubby said his hot dogs were steamed, not grilled (minus 1 star), but they were OK. The fries were really good. For the price of everything we cant really complain much anyway. Overall, not bad. They'd get 4 stars if they had some bar stools or something.. (can you tell we like to sit down and enjoy our meals?) Anyway, the prices are cheap and the food does seem fresher than any fast food establishment you could stop at. I'd recommend if you happened to be passing by.

Rapid Rays is a great late night place but as I got older I realized it is just as good during hours when most people are awake. They have great lobster rolls. Nice toasted rolls. Lots of lobster with just enough sweet mayo to make them delicious. No fillers like celery. At $8.00 they are a steal. The burgers while small are also very good and tasty. Always fresh with just enough grease. The fries and onion rings are also pretty delicious.

If i was ever drinking-age when I lived in Maine, Rap's would certainly have been my go-to post-drinks, seeing as the Taco Bell closes unfairly early. Oh my goodness, I could eat 10 of their tasty burgers (and regularly do eat multiple, as they're not that big). After this many years, it's amazing the place hasn't changed and the food tasted just like it did when I was little.

Wow I have been going to Rapid Rays since I was a child when they had a truck parked selling their burgers and dogs. I have to say I think I just went to Rapids for the last time. I ordered my food as I have always done the guy on the register ( the "new kids" as the owners have retire) had an issue ringing in my order perhaps he didn't hear I wanted fries so I corrected him. He made the adjustment and I paid. When my order came I didn't get some of the items I ordered so I went back. They accommodated my request for my missing food. As I was standing eating I could hear them say how they had to give a free clam cake and water to that... I went back and surprised them as they were speechless that I was still there. I HAD ordered the items missing and for them to be talking about a customer while being present only to make me feel that I was taking advantage (for a free meal) and I had not really ordered my food. Argh! Customer service goes a long way! Listen to your customers don't worry about the fry guy who went downstairs. Food is good, it is what it is but if you go there make sure they know what you ordered or they may talk about you in an unprofessional way.

It's late at night and you have a serious case of the munchies. Where do you go? Rapid Ray's in Saco of course! After a night of Trivia over at Run-of-the-Mill, I was told I needed to check out Rapid Ray's. I didn't think I was that hungry, but apparently, everyone has room for Rapid Ray's. The menu? Burgers, dogs, corndogs, fries, onion rings, and chocolate milk. Chocolate milk you might ask? Oh yes, chocolate milk. My cousin, a native Mainer, explained that she never has chocolate milk except from Rapid Ray's. Duly noted. It was a chilly night, so I got hot chocolate instead. I was still satisfied. :-) I think french fries are too much a part of my diet. :-). The french fries here were delicous! The dogs are yummy as are the burgers! The cooks are a lot of fun and the service is pretty quick (Rapid Ray's, so one would certainly hope so!). Prices are cheap and great. Rapid Ray's tends to be a late night, after pub stop that is a favorite of UNE students. It's also a local fave. It is now one of mine. Perhaps I should just move to Maine and save myself all the gas I'm spending coming up here to each french fries. :-)

Good Burgers, Fries and Awesome Onion rings..better then any fast food. But if you want a surprise. Order a Lobster Roll..or 2 or 3. My wife said it was one of the best she ever had. only $7

My Mother has lived in Saco for 5 years, about 3 years ago while visiting I gave Rapid Ray's a try. I was unimpressed to say the least and so was my Mother and Husband. Ever since I moved here myself, people have been telling me to give it another shot- so I did. It was actually worse than 3 years ago. The burgers are overcooked, the staff is grumpy, the fries are mediocre at best and the hot dogs aren't that great. Apparently you need to be from here to enjoy the junk they serve. If i want crappy burger served to me by an unfriendly staff, I'll hit up McDonalds.

Just went to Rapid Ray's for the first time last night. After having moved to Biddeford about 6 months ago, I'm surprised it took me so long. I think it's mainly because I've already established a list of favorites that are within walking distance from my place. Not that across the river in Saco is far. Back to the food, I'll cut to the chase. Rapid Ray's has good simple food for good simple prices. I had a ham (as they call them) and a cheese. After waiting for the cook to ask me what I wanted on them (the works) as they came off the grill I installed myself at a nearby window sill and ate them while still steaming hot. If any of you know Harmon's in Falmouth, they have a lot in common. They use the small (6 oz?) patties, and are a local establishment without a lot of fuss (errr, no fuss at all actually.) The buns were toasted and with the works toppings of mustard, relish and onions, they came in tight, neat little packages you could bit into and polish off with out a big mess. They tasted great, were fresh and were cheap to boot. Both burgers filled me up and cost less than five dollars. Other things on the menu were more "tricked-out" versions of their burgers, fries and chocolate milk (I love that). I'll be back, and I can't wait for the summer to take a nice walk over and eat an early summer evening snack before heading over to the brew pub for a pint. [Check out my review of Run of the Mill!]

The second we arrive to Maine to visit my family, my dad immediately asks if anyone is hungry and SOON after mumbles Rapid Ray's under his breath! Our family lives by this place. My mom grew up in Saco so she grew up on Rapid Ray's. They have great burgers! Some of the best in the WHOLE state of Maine, that is for sure! I love their fries....and if you don't get Oakhurst Chocolate Milk with your meal...you are missing out! This place is open really late and even on holidays. We usually eat Thanksgiving meal early afternoon, so for dinner...us porkers head to Rapid Ray's for seconds later that night! Love this place!
(5)April I.
I heart Rapid Ray's!!! Maybe it's a Maine thing, but when I am heading home and get off that amtrak train in Saco I usually go directly to Rapid Ray's where I get 2 loaded hotdogs and a choc. Alternatively I will get a loaded cheeseburger and a side of onion rings or a clam cake and a choc (that is chocolate milk in Rapid Ray's speak). It's quick, cheap, tasty, and hits the spot. I don't have any complaints about the food, but I will say that I get annoyed when I am at Rapid Ray's late at night and rowdy (read: drunken idiots) people stream out of the bars and come here. This is when I don't love Rapid Ray's -- since these drunk people tend to argue and are just assholes and I've even seen a fight or two. So I'll take my Rapid Ray's before 11pm when the food and atmosphere is great!!
(4)Jennafir E.
Hello delicious burgers with cheese, with a perfect side of fries. Not to mention the cheese dog, that is just melted amerian cheese ontop of a dog. One would think would be bad, lord knows I did, but I was wrong. Your greasy goodness makes me happy for: a snack, next morning recovery, or late night dinner. Either way, I praise your awesomeness.
(4)Monique G.
Yum! Bun is toasted perfectly.
(3)Andy C.
For a burger joint, you can't get any better than Ray's! This is literally a landmark in downtown Saco, having been there for years. As mentioned in other ratings, there is no place to sit, which is a downside, and they don't have milkshakes, which seems like a major issue with a burger joint. Other than that though, you cannot get a better burger in the area! The buns are toasted, each burger is made when you order it, and the fries are crunchy and delicious. The size of the burgers is small, but so are the prices, so get a bunch! I recommend the Big One with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and ketchup, but if you want the true Ray's experience, just get it loaded. This is a double cheeseburger, and they are truly tough to beat. It takes a couple more minutes to get your food than at McDonald's, but the quality is much better and you're supporting a local business. Well worth taking a quick drive through Saco on your way to OOB or UNE!!!
(4)Danielle L.
Rapid Ray's does what it does well: delicious fast food. Their lobster rolls rival those at any higher end restaurant and their buns are amazingly fresh, warm and yummy.
(5)Karine M.
I go for the hot dogs. Cheap, fast, and not bad
(4)Katie C.
cheap deliscious food a big step above any fast food. great burgers great fries, great clamcakes, cheap and awesome hot yummy food. if i lived near here ide go at least once a week. usually mobbed but staff are fast fast.
(5)BJ C.
The best Burgers in Maine. I make it my priority to eat at Rapid Rays as often as possible when I visit Maine. They make the best burger I have ever had. Fresh meat, not sloppy not greasy. Ask for it "Loaded" which basically means Mustard, diced onions, relish and a tomato slice. I will go through 3 or 4 of these myself. Which isn't too hard the burgers aren't behemoth beef monstrosities like you get at Chilis or Applebees they're normal sized burgers that rely more on TASTE than weight. Rapid Rays is mostly take out, there isn't anywhere to sit, but you could always sit in your car. They also make fantastic crab cakes, hotdogs and other grill style favorites. *Ordering tip* When you go up to the window please tell them how many burgers you want 1st and when they're cooked then tell them how you want them topped. Don't just go up and ask for 7 cheese burgers with onions and relish. The correct protocol would be to ask for 7 cheese burgers or 7 hams, THEN when they're done let the preparer know how you want them done. I would suggest getting them loaded though that seems to be the famous style. Rapid Rays has been family owned and operated since the 60s or 70s, and when you go in to order you'll see all the old black and white photographs on the wall which really gives you a sense of time and how long Rapids has been an anchor in Saco Maine. Truly a one of a kind place you wont find anywhere else.
