GREAT SLICE OF CHEESE! BUT RUDE DELIVERY DRIVER. And lovely service/ friendly bartender. Pizza has geek style. However-- the delivery driver in the white Subaru was INCREDIBLY RUDE and ridiculous...as he yelled at me x 3 for parking in an illegal spot (I really did not know!) and then proceeded to verbally harass me over the parking spot I needed for 30 seconds to pass off my friend's wallet who was inside. UNACCEPTABLE behavior and the exact opposite of all the friendly and wonderful Mainers we met on vacation. Very very disappointing behavior from an employee to a paying customer who was simply from out of town and apologetic for the honest mistake.

We had great pizzas here. I had the 10" Harbormaster pie with beer crust. Sliced chicken with BBQ sauce, carmelized onions, and smoke bacon bits in red sauce with 3-cheese blend. Awesome - everything about it. My wife had the 10" Dead River with beer crust. She said it was amazing and will be doing her own review. Really good local beer selection. Our server, Hank, was great too.

I came here on my most recent trip to Portland. I chose this place purely for the fact that it was very close and the rest of my family was ready to kill each other due to low blood sugar. We showed expecting nothing special, but this place was amazing and I will come back the next time I'm in Portland. The pizza here is crazy good, and I really like the beer crust. We ordered the Moosehead and Dead River pies. They were f#$*ing amazing! Even my picky sister ate the Dead River, and I've never seen here eat anything other than plain cheese pizza. The ingredients tasted fresh, especially the Red sauce. I also liked that they offered a flight of local Maine beers, because at the time we only got Sea Dog Blueberry in Texas. Waitstaff was very friendly and inviting. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough!

We're spoiled for "fancy" Pizza in Portland honestly. Bonobo, Otto, etc. Portland Pie is another solid option, and on top of the pizza sports perhaps the largest "other" menu of the bunch. Sandwiches, salads, apps, calzones, etc. My husband went with fish tacos off the app menu and pronounced them "meh," so maybe skip that. However, I could certainly see coming here with a group where not everyone is ready to ride the pizza train. I found my pizza a little too greasy with tomatoes had that under-ripe, pale look, in this hood I'd much sooner choose Bonobo for topping excellence. Put the big wine and beer menu and lots of gluten free/vegetarian options in the "pro" column and Portland Pie Company comes out at a solid 3 stars.

I'm not even hungry right now but I'm thinking about Portland Pie Company's pizza with artichokes and kalamata olives on a gluten free crust for dinner. If I get one, it will be the third time in eight days. When I brought the first one home, my boyfriend, who isn't wild about olives or artichokes and had ordered chinese food for himself, couldn't resist a slice and then snagged a second. A few days later I had lunch plans with a friend and asked if she wouldn't mind pizza, because I wanted another one! Luckily, she obliged and we dined in. The second pizza was just as good as the first! I've had other pizzas from there but something about the artichoke and olive toppings are kind of magical, I think. Sauce and cheese is also delicious. Their gluten free crust is the best I've had so far. Table service was friendly and efficient. When the bill came, I got a "Frequent Pie-er" rewards card. I think I'll be using it pretty soon, and pretty often!

I'm not sure why we keep returning to various portland pie locations, to be honest: I'm pretty irritated. Today, Sunday, my boyfriend and I walked into PP downtown. It's a beautiful day to eat downtown, however we usually local the Scarborough location. Our last visit there was not great and we have since decided yet are a takeout only location for us. We still live the food, so we decided to hit downtown for a sit down pizza binge. We're both training for big events and wanted a badass cheat meal. We waited at the door for a few minutes before we were seated. The place is EMPTY. Around us in this section/the dining room are two dirty tables. One large (8-top?)and one smaller 4-top. We waited for over 20 minutes before the bartender saw us waiting and sent a server. We would have left and were about to, but we both did fasted cardio today and needed to NOT walk all over before eating. We put in our entire order at once: drinks, apps, and entrees, and then will probably just get the check and some boxes immediately, and take off once they are out. I need to know: What is the service trend with all the PP locations? Why is this even a thing? As a server working in fine dining and everything down to diner breakfast for the last ten years, I would never let that happen. It's your reputation! I'm really disappointed. We love PP for so many reasons but won't be frequenting anymore. The food is amazing, the management clearly has other ideas about priority. We'll be sticking to takeout and subpar pizza at Otto from now on.

They ordered a few pies for the office and I tried the noreaster which tasted like buffalo chicken pizza. So freaking good. Perfect balance of Buffalo sauce and white meat chicken. I'm not a big pizza person so it's rare that I enjoy a slice as much as I did.

On one of our early days in Portland, the hubby and I explored our little city on foot and were so delighted to stumble on Portland Pie Company. The husband was so excited, he LOVES pie- its probably his favorite food. But right when we opened the door, we realized our mistake. The delicious smell of cheese, garlic, tomatoes and crust wafted out at us. At first we were slightly disappointed that we'd gotten it so wrong, but made a mental note to try it sometime because- lets face it- you can never have too much pizza. So we brought the parents back on their first visit up from Boston. Of course we couldn't agree on one or two to share, so we got three pizzas. Solid choice! The sampling was amazing. I'm a more traditional girl. The Moosehead and the Old Port on the beer dough satiate my pizza palate. We also tried the Harbormaster on Garlic Dough and the Mt Katahdin on wheat. Everybody left full, happy and with leftovers for lunch the next day. I was so pleased when I started working at my current company to find that PPC is their pizza of choice in the cafe, though I must admit, its not quite as good after sitting under heat lamps for an hour. Even though we have relocated off of the peninsula, we still order from PPC. Sure, it takes like 45 minutes and the pizza is a bit pricey, but it always arrives piping hot and the delivery person is so friendly and even brought us our dinner in a crazy snowstorm once. He's also very good with my crazy mutt and always asks to pet him. The way to my heart isn't only through my stomach- but also by being nice to my dog. You win PPC.

Pizza. The holy grail of foods. So simple, yet if not done right, can be a disaster. Portland Pie gets it right. They have the basics of course, but what sets them apart are the specialty pizza and dough. Let's talk about the dough. This vessel that delivers the ingredients to an anxious mouth is more important component than most will attest too. I loved their choices of toppings and dough. Ask your server to make recommendations; ours was spot on. Still second to good old fashioned NYC pizza, but their variety and quality makes it a close second.

My experience here is solely through takeout/delivery of pizza and a few sides, so I realize dining in-house may be a different experience. While the folks are always friendly, the pizza is always wet-bottomed, scorched and seemingly bland though with an overpowering taste of garlic. This has been somewhat consistent. The side salads are wonderful as are some of their desserts, but the price for their food is stratospheric, making ordering a large pizza with a couple of salads feel more like a night out at a fine restaurant. Nearly anyway. I'll keep trying them from time to time and will make an effort to stop in more often, but this just isn't our go-to pizza joint and I'd caution you before ordering delivery from them if you share my feelings toward the types of pizza I mentioned above.

I absolutely love a good pizza. These guys have a tremendous menu full of quirky combinations to the traditionals. The full bar includes several local (seasonal flavors as well) brews and domestics on draft. I enjoyed a seadog sunfish (grapefruit) with my grilled chicken Caesar salad, which was enough to fees three people for only $9.50. Drew ordered a 14" cheeseburger pizza on bacon dough. Amazing..... The pickles were even homemade and fresh! Our waitress, Kristine, was incredibly Welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. We sat in the bar area which had several two/four tops and a long bar to sit at as well. The dining room is located on the other side of the bar where several families were enjoying their dinners sans sports games on tv. Our bill was about $44, which included his 14", my salad, a 24 oz pumpkin head and my 2 seadogs. We hardly head downtown for pizza, but this is definitely my go-to spot for a casual and delicious pie.

I ordered two pizzas for take out last night it took almost twice as long as they initially stated. Even with the restaurant not being busy at all. The pizza wasn't great. We have had good experiences in the past this'll probably be the last time I order from them.

Portland Pie in Old Port is awesome. They are always on point with their food and service. One example of many happened last night. I wish I had asked for the names of the delivery guy and the guy who answered the phone because they were both super friendly. I was told there would be a longer then normal wait. Worth it. Food was delicious as always despite them being busy. The seasonal Everything crust is also more delicious then you could imagine.

Portland Pie is a solid pizza place that does not disappoint. Their wait staff is friendly and their pizza gets the job done. Recently a friend of mine had her birthday here and the waitress was nothing but pleasant (especially for serving a table of about 15 people). The have good beer on tap (try the Gritty's Christmas ale!) and their pizza's middle of the line not too thin, not too thick if you get my drift. My favorite pizza is the buffalo chicken but it is probably more than my daily calorie intake so suffice it to say, I've only had the buffalo chicken pizza twice in my life. Definitely delicious though so I recommend it - if you like that sort of thing. I've also, in the past, ordered their deli trays and salads for a party and it was relatively cheap and easy to pick up / serve to 20 - 25 people. Great people here and a great place to check out in Portland. Their downtown location has definite charm.

Visiting family and decided to have a casual dinner in after several nights splurging on Portland's fine dining. We had the Red Claw on beer crust and the Bradbury Mountain on whole wheat. Both crusts were light, crisp and held their shape while handling slices. My husband and brother enthusiastically devoured all but one slice of the RC. My Bradbury was a little bland but fresh and healthy. By pizza standards, neither was particularly heavy. Our appetizers (wings and breaded green beans) were also tasty, although the wings could were mild by our standards. Overall an enjoyable meal!

This is very solid pizza and would definitely come back again when visiting Maine. I ordered a 14" pepperoni pizza and was extremely satisfied. The cheese was very fresh and I felt it was high quality. Pepperoni was very good, and not too oily. You get to choose the dough (plain, garlic, others) and I chose the garlic dough, very good. Dough was fluffy and has s good chew to it, must be the water! Only minor complaint was the root beer selection (Mug root beer). Would have preferred a Maine or other micro brewed one.

Solid pizza. I enjoyed it. I had the garlic crust with pepperoni, onions and roasted red peppers --- thin crust. I think I would go with the regular crust because I couldn't taste enough of the garlic or any and I love garlic. Margarita wasn't very good and might be a good option to stick with beer.

If you're like me, you like to savor every bite of pizza. Portland Pie makes it easy to do just that. They have a soft dough that melts in your mouth. You can choose several flavors of dough but my favorites are beer (try it! I was skeptical too, but I promise you it's delicious), garlic, and basil. Our favorite pizza is the Crescent Beach, which is a fun cheeseburger pizza. It is indulgent and delicious. I've also tried their veggie pizzas, mushroom, and garlic bread. I haven't had a pizza I didn't love, but Crescent Beach is by far the best. If you are picking up, they will advise you to come as quickly as 20 minutes to pick it up. Wait! Every time I've based my arrival on their time frame, I've had to wait and extra 10-15 minutes. Word to the wise, take your time before picking it up. Lastly, they do have a slice bar so you can pop in at a moment's notice. Enjoy!

Ambiance (pizza casual): A Service: A Food: A Drink: A Bang for your buck: A Sail the smoky cheesy scent waves into Portland Pie, where you will find inspired pizza recipes. Good brews on tap, too, including some local options. Want lobster on your pizza? Check. How about 600 varieties of pizza crust (e.g. Gluten free, beer, garlic, everything bagel). Looking for a delicious and different veggie option? The spinach, broccoli, feta, white sauce will leave your teeth unsightly and your palate bouncing with delight.

Have visited twice when visiting Portland. Sitting down during slow hours in late afternoon, the pies are made to order and delicious. We also had some slices to bring back for friends, and those were also well received. It's not in the best location to capture the majority of the foot traffic, but if you want pizza and don't want to just take what you happen upon, it is a good selection and not too far from the beaten path.

I really like Portland Pie Company pizza. I've order takeout and it was excellent but I've also dined in which was sub par. The server was actually pretty rude in the beginning and then later in the evening became overly peppy in what seemed very disingenuous. It was just slightly off-putting. The food was good though. I ended up trying one of their sandwiches which was good but I probably would come back here solely for the pizza from here on out. The bar area is not bad either to come for a beer and casual dinner. But it's a great delivery/takeout option in the area that offers a step up from Pizza Hut.

Had an excellent experience, everyone was cheerful and pleasant. My wife had the Avery rock (Dagwood) it is huge. I had the cape neddick pizza, excellent. Pizza is a subjective item because some like thin crust and some thick, some sweeter sauce, etc. Luckily I like all types and take the pizza as it was meant to be. It needs to be fresh and good ingredients. First time here, will be back.

Dialing this place in on a bonus star because on two out of the three times I've slithered in there for a late slice after work they've given me the late night deal which is supposed to be a dine in only kind of thing I think. Indeed generous and very kind, and to be honest good business, hence the bonus star. The pizza is just so bad though. So, so bad. Transformers movies bad. Drake bad. Ordered a whole pizza from them around a month ago awash in the fog of a hangover. Got me the cheeseburger pizza on wheat crust and two bites in I was checking my apartment for hidden cameras because I was positive I was being Punk'd. Given this place a couple chances because I live right around the corner and after twelve or so hours working in a kitchen I just want something warm and fast to put in my feed hole. I really want to like this place. I really do. I just can't though. Same for my stepmother's sister. The younger sister. The older one is cool.

The atmosphere is wonderful in here, a cozy place to enjoy and some great pizza or a calzone. I would definitely come back here, my spinach and cheese calzone was so tasty. But all of the insides spilled out every time I cut into it so they are messy. Their red sauce was the best I've ever had. Great place to eat.

I was excited to try this location. Me and my two children aged 5 and 15 months came in at 530. We were sat promptly and our server soon got our drink orders. The drink orders came out right and that's where the wheels fall off. The pizza was really a let down and the chicken fingers and fries were terrible and burnt. How do you mess that up. The waitress then disappeared as my child started to cry because we sat for so long while waiting for the check. The patrons around us were really nice and understanding and shocked the waitress disappeared as she did. Go try better places. Get out expand your taste cravings. We will never be going back.

While visiting Maine I was recommended to visit this pizzeria. The pizza was amazing. My friends and I all tried something different. My friend had the Seadog Wild berry beer and it was delicous. While visiting Maine def swing by. Try to the Buffalo with pretzel crust. And end your evening with a smores pie dessert.

Not as stellar as I remember the pizza being, and the service was tolerable at best for our large party. Maybe I've just gotten too attached to my Otto's pizza. If you like thin crust, you might be tempted to order the 14" thin, but it isn't worth it. It's not a true thin crust pizza, just a stretched-out 12". I love the location and the style of the place, especially all of the exposed brick, it's very Old Port-y. We'll be back when we're craving pizza made by someone else, but we usually just make our own at home with PPie dough instead.

Enjoyed the food, not so much the 90 minute wait to get a ten inch pizza. The service was awful, 25 minutes from the time we sat down until we got water... I have always been a fan of Portland Pie but had never dined in the restaurant, nor will I ever again. After waiting 30 minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant it took 15 minutes just for the waitress to come over and ask about a drink order. Another fifteen minutes later, our four waters arrived. We started with chicken nachos which were not worth the price or the wait. Dry chicken, not enough cheese, small cups of guac, sour cream and chopped tomatoes on the side, mediocre at best. Half way through the nachos I had to get the waitress' attention (after she passed our table 4 times) for more water. We ordered three ten inch pies, Moosehead, Matinicus and Harbor master. The pies took over an hour to come out and when they finally arrived, one of them was the wrong order. Our waitress claimed the correct pie would be out in 7 minutes, at this point the service was such a joke that we decided to time it. 25 minutes later when three of the four of us were done eating, the last pie cane out. A tasty pizza but Some of the worst service I have ever had, stick to delivery and pickup when it comes to Portland Pie.

Hands down the best pizza I've ever had!!! 5 stars for the creativity with the dough and variety on the menu. Friendly staff. I got a 10" Crescent beach( cheeseburger) pizza on garlic dough and it was amazing. I'm not a big fan of chicken on pizzas but the spring point( chicken and mango) was adequately delicious. I wish we lived here in Portland so I could visit this joint more often.

Wonderful night and competent waitress. But spinach salad came withou bacon ( isn't spinach salad without bacon in my book) and the seasonal pie was tasteless. I put every available spice and herb and copious amounts of salt but still mediocre. I liked the beer price of $3.75 for an ipa.

Portland Pie is our go-to pizza place. Portland has so many really great pizza shops, and there's no shortage of gourmet pizza. But sometimes you don't want fancy gourmet pizza, you want real hearty pizza! That's when we go to portland pie. They have fancy too, don't get me wrong. But I like to judge a pizza place by their simple cheese pizza before anything else, and you just can't get a cheese pizza like you can here. The bar is really great too, fair beer prices and a great selection *I have a few rules about portland pie though.* It's only worth it when you're either: -getting pizza for takeout or delivery -sitting at the bar and getting beer and slices or a pizza pie among friends If you don't follow those simple rules you will end up sitting at a table, ordering expensive sodas and appetizers and spending wayyyy more than you wanted on what could have been a good simple pizza meal!

One of my top favorite pizza places!! Their pizza choices are so unique and very close to Maine. Their other options such as their sandwiches are also great! (The scallop pizza is so good!! I once got 6 whole pies there!)

Got a vegan pie and were surprised with a second pie.....FREE!, because the first one was stuck a little bit to the pan. We would've been totally fine wit it, but our server Caitlin insisted, as did the kitchen I assume. That alone earns them five stars. Adding an option of vegan cheese and herbed dough, just keeps gilding the lily.. Very good service coupled with incredible back of the house attention to detail, make this place a big winner!

My family and I frequent this establishment. The service is normally great. However, today was the exception. Two waitresses, two tables occupied. 15 minutes to get drinks, and the order was botched. Not impressed at all Portland Pie. Maybe time to find another pizzeria.

So then.....ordered the pepperoni special.....has a cute name, but cannot remember.....and it was just great....I know it's sacrilegious, but found it far better than the esteemed Frank Pepes in New Haven..(although it's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison, as they are different styles) .....Nevertheless, it has a very nice depth of flavor.....beer crust was great too. Definitely in my top 10 of all time! Only reason not five star review is for rather bored, indifferent service....but whatever......too good to not go back....

Our meal ranged from good to kinda gross. My wife and I started off with Shipyard Pumpkinhead beers with a brows sugar rim. I wouldn't normally go for the sugar rim, but the server suggested it in such an offhand way that it seemed like a normal thing to do, so I went for it. Delicious! It added a great sweetness to the drink (obviously), and turned it into a real autumn treat. We both got salads. I went for a Caesar, and my wife went for a regular ol' garden. Both were pretty boring. My Caesar wasn't tossed in it's dressing, and it was just fine. My wife's was meh as well. For pizzas we got one thin crust Moosehead with garlic crust, and one Old Orchard with wheat crust. Both were good, and better than some other places in the area, but they did not live up to the hype. There was no eye rolling nor moaning. Lastly, we decided to go big and go for desert to top off our bulging bellies. Me with the Mike's "Killer" Key Lime pie with vanilla ice cream, and my wife with moose tracks and vanilla ice cream. The pie was very heavy, and very tasty. The ice cream was a mess! As a side to the pie, it was tossed willy-nilly on both sides of the pie. As a stand-alone desert for my wife, it was piles in grotesque heaps without rhyme or reason. The vanilla was melty, and the moose tracks was freezer burned. It's hard for ice cream to be gross, but Portland Pie achieved this. Throughout the meal the temperature of the dining room fluctuated between too warm and too cold. The waitress admitted that the heat is difficult to control in the space. Overall, I left disappointed. Portland has some stiff competition in the pizza arena, and for me, Portland Pie company just wasn't a knockout.

Had dinner with family here. Great service and food. I dreaded being dragged to a pizzeria but was pleasantly surprised by their large and sophisticated menu. I ordered a lemondrop martini, apple and sausage stuffed mushrooms, and the lobster roll with pasta salad. The mushrooms were delicious and the lobster roll was authentic (cold lobster with mayo and lettuce in a toasted "maine" hotdog bun). The pizza was quite good too. We tried regular and thin crust. My family rated it in the top 5, so that's some good praise. The pear and gorgonzola salad looked lovely, but unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try it. If you can't tell by now, I'm not a pizza person!

Ok place, was expecting better. Salad was very dry, didn't seem fresh. Pizza was ok, sauce was sweet and didn't cover most of the pizza. A little pricey for a large ($21), enough for 3 people and was small. Asked for mushroom topping, got a very light sprinkling of them.

As soon after we arrived in Portland, ME after running the New Hampshire Marathon on 10/5/2013, my friends and I decided to do the Portland Pie Company. As soon as they decided on this place, I checked yelp to see if it was good and gave it my initial thumbs up. Apparently on a Saturday night, this place was pretty packed, so we had a large group of 14 and had to wait a while. We were finally squished onto a table that was next to the entrance, but thankful we got to sit down. Lord knows how tiring our collective legs were that evening. And most of us were planning on running Maine Marathon the next morning, yours truly included. Crazy world, huh? With that said, this restaurant pick was a solid one and it was nice. Located on York Street in downtown Portland, ME, this proved to be one popular pizza and bar joint, although at night, it can seem like the place is like in an undesirable neighborhood, especially to tourist folk. Nonetheless, this place has a private lot adjacent to the restaurant, which is always cool, as well as street parking too. The ambiance was that of a sports pub and restaurant at the same time, so loud loud and sports games on the television. There was a MLB game on that night, and I suspect Boston was playing somebody. The only gripe I have about this place was the waiting after the server took our order. We must've waited a good 30-45 minutes before getting out food, which can be borderline ridiculous. That part of the evening sucked, since we wanted to eat fast and get to sleep as fast as we could. I eventually got the 16" combination specialty pizza, which turned out to be comparable to a Pizza Hut type pizza, but different. I took down that entire pizza with reckless abandon and it was certainly well worth the $17 price tag. Along with a bottomless glass of ginger ale, it was a pretty tasty meal to re-carb up for the next marathon slated to come. Again, the sucky part was the waiting for our food. We came here at 7:15pm, but didn't leave till 8:45pm. For most normal folk, that would be ok, but for us marathoners, we need all the sleep we could get. Disappointing to say the least on that sticking point, but that's how it goes sometimes. I did have a good experience though, although the wait could have been better. Overall, I think this place is good for a bite to eat. If I am ever back here, I would like to try their local brews and sample what else they have on the menu, but for now, it was nice to come here and celebrate with friends after knocking off New Hampshire @ the New Hampshire Marathon and running the Maine Marathon the next morning. We are crazy like that, but enjoy every bit of it. What's life without crazy adventures, eh? :) Support local! C

No idea how this place gets such a high rating - was steered wrong by Yelpers on this one. Sauce isn't flavorful, crust was limp and not flavorful as well. The toppings were all fine. There is nothing here that separates itself from your average "house of pizza". With all the great places in Portland, not sure why you'd spend your money here. Service was very pleasant though.

On our road trip we decided to stop here we arrived a little after 11 pm thinking they would be closed but to my surprise they were open and willing to serve is some pizza! It was so great the next afternoon we went back and ordered a whole pie of NOR'EASTER with the beer crust! It was excellent!

The thing I love about portland pie is their service and delivery. They are respectful and pleasant on the phone, I appreciate that they keep a record account with my phone number so I don't have to give my address every time (yeah, I get delivery a lot). The delivery drivers are friendly, helpful. Once they forgot part of my order and I didn't realize it until I'd gone back inside. I called to let them know, and they immediately sent someone back out with it, no extra charge! The food is excellent - no matter what I order, I'm always happy with the result. To sum it up - great food, happy customer service, and one happy customer!

Came to Maine for the holidays from Chicago. Our server Kristine was amazing super nice and very energetic she came back to the table several times. Everyone there was great we were told that our pizza was missing an ingredient and they brought us the one with the missing ingredient to munch on till they made us a new one. Both pizzas were really good couldn't ask for better service. I will visit again for the awesome service and the amazing pizza.

SO disappointed! I like Otto's too but Portland Pie has always been my go to for nice chewy crusts and tasty toppings. But tonite it was like a totally different restaurant. First, they've apparently gotten rid of the 12" option, so you if you want their regular crust you have to get 10" or 16". I always liked 12" b/c we could split a couple and have leftovers. Instead we got the 10" which were sad little pizzas w/none of poofy, chewy crust we loved and scant toppings. We got a Bradbury Mt. which is supposed to have "A base of our three cheese blend is topped with portobello, crimini and button mushrooms. Out of the oven the pie is topped with an arugula and goat cheese salad, finished with a balsamic reduction." Instead, there was a crazy thick layer of onions at the bottom (seriously a whole onion's worth) and although they were sweet, had they advertised it as having a large amount of onions I probably wouldn't have gotten it (or would have asked them to hold the onions). And there was hardly any of the 3-cheese blend and just a small sprinkling of goat cheese. Plus some burnt garlic sprinkled on the crust. The other pizza we got was a build your own, supposed to be 3-cheese blend, spinach, fresh tomatoes and bacon. Again, sad thin-ish crust, hardly any spinach or cheese, but lots of tomatoes so it was kind of mushy, and oh yeah, no bacon! I get that sometimes you have a bad night, but the prior time it wasn't great either. I am just really underwhelmed and don't think I'll be returning anytime soon if at all, which really bums me out.

Had dinner here on Saturday night. The service was quite good but the reason for the 3 star rating is because I didn't like the pizza very much. I ordered the Old Orchard on gluten free crust, the pie was a bit soggy in the middle, too cheesy and I'm not sure I liked the kind or quality of the cheese.... I feel bad saying this but it reminded me of microwave pizza. Perhaps New York has spoiled me. :(

This place makes great pie! However there are a few problems. I went here one night with my fiance and had stuffed mushrooms, they were great but we paid almost 10 bucks for 5 mushrooms. The pizza we had was fantastic the "moose head" witch wasn't too pricey. The waitress we had was awful forgot about us several times. I would go back but the wait staff leaves much to be desired.

  • Lauren H.

I love pizza, and this wasn't bad. We ordered the old orchard. The toppings were plentiful. Sauce was just right. We got the beer crust and while more flavor able than most crust I've had, it was really chewy and thin not in a good way.

They're supposed to be known for their crust but it's a soggy mess and all the options taste the same. The outside crust is fine but the part with the toppings is wet and falls apart. Even if you just get cheese, which I tried after the first disaster. The middle of the slice gets left behind and all the toppings just flop off. No thanks. It's a problem that a pizza place just can't get away with, in my opinion. Stick with Otto!

Their pizza is of a thicker crust variety, and it doesn't disappoint! Its the right amount of crispy and doughy crust. Their dessert pies are great too. The blueberry pie is a slice of pie heaven and the key lime pie is the way its supposed to be. Definitely recommend!

Good food spoiled by subpar service. In a simplistic party of four my girlfriend's dinner arrived 10 minutes later than the rest of the group's food because the bartender had given the order to another customer. Once she did receive her food she was mockingly asked if her calzone was "worth the wait" by our waitress. The Peaks Island sandwich was my choice; it came in a toasted baguette stuffed with meatballs and red sauce topped with melted provolone. The dish came with a condiment cup-sized portion of pasta salad. The food was good, though pricy compared to other pizzerias in town.

Pizza was good, and service was as well. A little slow for lunch on a Saturday, but a short walk from the main business district. Excellent selection of pizzas with topping combinations you might not expect, but will totally enjoy. Get the beer crust, it's the best, and don't be afraid to try something new.

If you've been on the internet lately, you've noticed that pizza has garnered the sort of religious following/obsession that is usually reserved for the likes of Elvis...or Jesus. Sure, every undergrad loves their pizza, as do picky-eating children--and they always have. But lately, I have seen more gifs of flying pizza, animated monster pizza and cats WITH pizza (thanks, hipsters!) and frankly, I am not complaining. The zeal with which I seek out and devour pizza is unparalleled in most other areas of my life, and if I had to pick only one church to worship the pizza Gods in, it would most DEFINITELY be Portland Pie Co. All the cool ambiance aside, their pies are...perfect. Undoubtedly and consistently the best pizza I've ever had had, theirs are the pies that pizza-dreams are made of. Being a full-bred New England lady, I have no time for thin, timid crusts or slices larger than my head. I want thick, chewy crust, with creative (and incredible) topping combinations that I can thoughtfully enjoy. Being from New Hampshire and growing up always loving Maine, I want my pies to be reminiscent of the places I love and go to whenever I wish to reconnect to my roots. The names and toppings of their signature pies reflect the best peaks, harbors and vacation spots in Maine--it's like being doused in a wave of nostalgia every time I'm here. Being a progressive, I want my pizza to be VEGAN, too. BY GOD, THEY HAVE VEGAN CHEESE! Their crusts are almost all vegan-friendly, as well, AND DELICIOUS. The garlic crust is amazing, as is their beer crust. It's almost all too good to be true. But it is true--and real! Blessed be! Whether it's at the Portland location or the Manchester location, I have never been let down by the quality of the food or service at Portland Pie. Please check out their creative and over-the-top seasonal pies (last fall, I had one with BEETS and Butternut squash on it which was a revelation), and may the pizza-Gods smile upon you.

Only three star rating as I've eaten here numerous times and it's always a crap shoot as to getting a good meal or not. I've had really good pizzas and quesadillas and I've had terrible ones. I usually get delivery so I'm kinda forced to accept whatever arrives.

Great place for a quick lunch. The pizza slices are always fresh and hot, with plenty of variety to choose from. For a more filling lunch, the personal sized pizzas are reasonably priced too.

I won't lie, this place is fairly good, but it's never at the top of my list for restaurants to stop into, pizza or no. I've always had good service here and the pizza does occasionally hit the spot, but I just don't think it's anything that special! Their crust though? Amazing. I make homemade pizza probably once every couple weeks and I am always SO SAD when I can't find their garlic crust at Hannaford (but their beer crust is an acceptable substitute!).

    (3)
  • Heidi A.

What a disappointment!! We have been buying their dough at Hannafords and were eager to try their version. The only way to taste the dough was to buy the appetizer of the dough bites, other than that the pizza was smothered in too much bad cheese and sauce. My daughter ordered a calzone which came with a side of sauce which was not necessary as the calzone was overloaded with sauce. The wine selection was poor at best. Atmosphere was dull and the dreary. The best quality of our waitress was that she told us not to order the Lobster pizza as the lobster is frozen!! Shame on them have they looked at their location lately , anyone that has a restaurant that close to water in Maine should have nothing but the freshest of seafood! On the bright side The Monkey Fist Beer was quite fresh.

Ate dinner here late on Wednesday evening. We ordered pizza by the slice, pepperoni and a nor'easter. The pizza was hot and had a great crust. Definitely enjoyable! I wish we were hungrier and could have tried more of their interesting pizza combinations.

My husband Scott and I have always loved the Portland Pie dough sold at Hannafords- we purchase for our homemade pizzas. We were looking for a place to meet up with his parents and decided to check out the restaurant. We shared the multigrain breadsticks which were good and the tacos which were awesome ( didn't even need meat)! My mom in law and I shared the Dead River pizza and Scott got the Casco Bay calzone. Dad got the chicken finger basket with baked fries. Everything was super tasty- no complaints at all! Our server was super sweet, perfect amount of service, and very professional. I also really liked the space you were given to eat, didn't feel packed in at all.

Fabulous pizza with quick delivery, but.... Our delivery had one of the pizza that was not what we ordered, they were very courteous and sent us a replacement pizza within 20 minutes....but..... Then I found a hair in the pizza.... Appetite gone. Peach salad was amazing, and wonderful service. Just can't get past the hair....feels like a bad scene from "Waiting"

For a really good experience in getting a pie at a reasonable price, then you need to step into the doors of Portland Pie, Co. When you open the menu of this restaurant, you will see everything from whole wheat, to beer crust to your normal, plain jane slices. Their selections of margarita pizza, to maine lobster to every other type of pie you can think of, it is always fresh and delicious. The service is always friendly and the beer is always cold and the setting is always inviting. I have come here with small groups and large groups of 8 or more and they never let me down. So, the next time you are getting ready to party in the old port or just looking to grab a quick bite for lunch, visit Portland Pie, you will definitely not be dissapointed.

Portland Pie Co. was the perfect place to end a day of sightseeing in Portland, ME. We loved the Shipyard Special and Mt. Katahdin pies, ordering both with special rosemary garlic crust (yum!). Great, relaxing ambiance and very reasonable prices, especially for tourists who are feeling a little tapped out from the adventures (and expenditures) of the day. Great pizza, great place. We will definitely come back here if we're ever in Portland again!

We ordered the Moosehead pizza with garlic crust. Savory and delicious! Without fail, we will try Portland Pie again and perhaps try their incredible-sounding sandwiches. Very prompt and friendly delivery to our hotel.

Favorite pizza place in the country. I take pizza seriously and this place is AMAZING. We go to Portland every year and Portland Pie as recommended by locals a few years ago, so we had to try it. Oh man! The restaurant in a beautiful old building and it has a warm glow. The pizza smells and tastes so good I can barely even describe it. There are a few different favors of crust to choose from and I've tried them all over the years. All are great. I prefer traditional toppings but their specialty pies are pretty great too. I can't speak for the non-pizza menu items, but who cares about non-pizza? This place is just so, so good. Side note: one time they messed up our order and gave us the wrong pizzas. They fixed it and made the right ones and just gave us the other ones too. The incorrect pizzas were also awesome.

we live Portland Pie, but after experiences at the Portland location, we will only go to the Scarborough location. the food is great at any Portland Pie. The last time we went to the Portland location, it was empty, as in we were the only people in the place. we waited at the bar ten minutes for the bartender to acknowledge we were there. He said he'd be back in a minute to get our drink orders. he went in the back and was chit chatting with the staff. he only cam out because a cute girl went to the take-out order register at the end of the bar. he walked by us and completely ignored us. he chatted with her, and the moment he began taking her order, all the while leaving us ignored for nearly 20 minutes, we walked out. we drove directly to the Scarborough location and we're blown away by how good their afternoon service was. as for the Portland location? we will neither be back or recommend it. 2 stars is for the great tasting food alone. 0 stars for service.

Wow! The best gluten-free pizza I've EVER had!!! It's corn-free as well, which is extremely hard to find for us health-conscious pizza lovers!. Absolutely delicious with a consistency that's very close to "normal" pizza crust - they use a perfect combination of rice, tapioca and millet flours. My husband is fine with wheat so he got the garlic crust and was incredibly happy! The service couldn't have been better and the ambience is fun and relaxed. The next time I'm in Portland I will definitely be there for dinner! Open a Portland Pie Company in NYC please!!!!!

The atmosphere here runs like polished clockwork. It's clean, well-labelled, and the service is friendly. The pizza is stellar. It starts with great crust and smoothly tasty sauce, and piles on great toppings and cheese. No single thing can be found wrong with the food, the ingredients do not compete with each other, which is a major plus, and there is zero cheaping out on the ingredients that do go into the dishes. There isn't too much special innovation with regards to the base of the pizza itself, but the topping combos are great. This place has attention to detail in spades, and refuses to cut corners or lose sight of what holds up a great slice of pizza. They are the solid rock in the upper-mid tier of pizza joints. Some eating establishments which probe the frontiers of pizza cooking are like mad science labs, you never know what you're going to end up with and there's always a hefty bill. If you want reliably tasty food served by people who know what they're doing, you come here.

A nice little find in Portland. I was on a business trip and had a hankering dfor pizza, but did not want to head the nation chain route PPC is located near the waterfront in Portland but a very easy drive from the mall area. Located in an older brick building on the corner, there is a seperate bar areas with tablers and a dining room with fireplace. I ate in the dining room. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who seated me immediatly. The menu is pretty extensive and they have full bar too, but I was there for the pizza tonight - I got a small 10" with their beer crust (there are about 4 other crust choices, in additon to other sauces besides red). My server Lorrie, was attentive and friendly - as were all the folks I encountered at PPC. I get the impression this is a pretty good place to work since they seemed to enjoyn their jobs. But onto the pizza - perfectly sauced and cheesed (I usually get extra cheese but there was no need for it tonight). The pizza was brought out piping hot and I was offered freshly grated parmesan if I wanted, but I passed. The crust was nice and crisp (they way I like it, but if you were to order 3 or more toppings, you might want to ask them to leave it in the oven a bit longer since we all know the more toppings, longer cooking time to be a crisp crust. They have free parking in a lot next door and street parking is free in the evenings also. I encourage you to give it a try if you are looking for pizza in the Portland, ME area.

Are you kidding me? I am a pizza nut and this place blew my hair back. Dough - you pick from a nice variety of flavors, all rock, you choose the thickness. Toppings - they have it all, its all fresh. No frozen junk. Service - awesome. Beers on tap, awesome. Specialty pies - all insane. Only part that sucks is I live in Mass, from Maine, and now I want to move back. Vote with your $, come here.

My favorite pizza. I know it's not trendy in Portland to favor a thick crust, gooey monstrosity with oozing cheese and overboard toppings over a thin, nitrate-free sausage and leek slice, but in my mind, this is what pizza is supposed to be.

  • El J.

I stopped in here with mom on a lark and was pleasantly surprised. PPC's exterior gave me a bar impression, but it's actually very family friendly. We happened to be somewhat early, and there were kids at many of the tables and a birthday party going on, for better and worse. Service was friendly and helpful. Mom and I decided to go with one safe and one "risky" choice. Safe option: the Moosehead, with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms. Adventurous option: the special of the day, which had bacon, bbq beef brisket, mashed potatoes, and cheddar. Both were great, with the "special" impressing us most. PPC also has a decent beer selection, bottles and draft, with a strong local emphasis. I recommend the whites by Allagash or Long Trail.

Great if you're not gluten free, otherwise I think that there are better spots to get a good gluten free pie!

    (2)
  • Jeff L.

Like their regular pies, also their gluten free options seem to be really gluten free- they are even paranoid enough to warn about their regular cheese being potentially cross-contaminated and recommending their soy cheese for the truly gluten-sensitive. Also, the atmosphere at their main restaurant downtown is very nice and a good combination of family-friendly and a good bar

Prior to their move up to York St., Portland Pie Company used to be THE place to grab a slice. They made an awesome variety of unique pizzas that played off of and embodied the great state of Maine. You could walk in at any time during the day to grab a slice that always tasted fresh and delicious. Back then, they were definitely a four star place. In my opinion, they've really lost their sparkle over the course of the past couple of years. The quality just isn't what it used to be. While the staff was totally accommodating to us (we wanted one large pizza to be half of one kind on their menu - the "Mt. Katahdin" - and half of another - the "Great Diamond"), the pizza was incredibly soggy. Not from sauce or grease - it just felt wet. The middle of our pizza seemed really watery. Maybe the dough wasn't cooked all the way through? We actually had a difficult time finishing our pizza because of the strange dampness and the, oddly enough, burned-to-a-crisp toppings. We loved the relaxed atmosphere, the beer (having worked in the alcohol industry I can tell you this: they pour one of THE BEST Guinness' in town!!!) and the staff was super. But, it DEFINITELY isn't what it used to be, and there are DEFINITELY better pizza places in town now.

Pizza in Portland seems to run to the exotic, with each place one-upping the other for what qualifies as hip and modern. Portland Pie has its range of specialty pizzas, but it all starts with the crust and then goes from there. The crust is good, a bit less crisp than I'd like and a hair chewy, which might even drop it to three stars, but the sauce and the topping blends bring it way up. If they could get the crust just a touch crisper and a little less doughy, this could easily be a five star place. I can't say whether it would top Otto's the big gun on the block, but for delivery it's the best.

as someone who loves dairy but can't eat it any more, i miss pizza *a lot*. it had been years since my last taste of the real thing, not just homemade stuff that's never the same. but the Portland Pie Co can make delicious, dairy free pizzas!!! i ate one last night and it was like an early birthday present... so good! they use Daiya, a superior non-dairy cheese that melts, stretches, is all around delicious. just ask for it, there's no extra charge or anything, they will replace it for their usual cheese blend. this made my day yesterday (and today, yum, leftovers). i will definitely be going back!!

I recently tried Portland Pie Company on York Street in Portland and it is right up there with some of the top pizza's places that I have eaten at in Maine. Oddly though, its not because of the pizza which is very good but not the best Ive ever had. The reason I love this place is because of the GREEN BEANS. Onion battered and baked in the same smokey oven that the pizza goes in. This is definitely not your traditional appetizer at a pizza joint. I have had fried green beans before but these are so much better then the greasy ones from the fryer. Crunchy, crispy and with a hint of smoke and onion, they are almost health food! They are served with a chipotle ranch mayo and are so addictive. They are in my top two or three favorite appetizers of all time and I could eat these all day long. The pizza menu features a decent amount of specialty pizzas named after Maine landmarks and noteworthy places. You also have your choice of different flavored pizza dough which makes the Portland Pie Company unique. The dough is Available in deep dish, regular hand tossed, or thin crust. Simone and I created our own thin crust garlic dough pie with Chicken, prosciutto, mushrooms, olives and artichokes. It came out looking very good and tasted as good as it looked. A nice sweet and simply seasoned tomato sauce was the base for our creation. The crust was a bit thick to be called thin crust but it was cooked perfectly and was not soggy at all. The dessert menu also features a few sweet pizza's and some more traditional local New England stuff like Blueberry pies and Ice Cream sundaes. Simone loves smores so of course we had to get the smores pizza. If you have a sweet tooth then you must save room for this. Melted chocolate chips, melted mini marshmallows, sprinkled with ground graham crackers on a pizza crust, baked to a smokey campfire brown. You'll need a lot of napkins and a fork for this one as it gets messy quickly but its a beautiful mess and good to the last bite. We ended up finishing the entire thing. Overall we had a great meal and would definitely be back as I'm already thinking about those green beans and getting hungry all over again.

I was too scared of their specialty pizzas so I ordered a personal 10". I got a wheat crust (trying to be healthy) along with pepperoni, pineapple, and prosciutto. Turns out the wheat crust is a really terrible idea-- its too dry tasting. But the rest of the toppings are good and I finished off the whole pizza. The service was friendly, quick, and efficient. My waitress even brough my water with no ice as requested, something that most waiters seem to be unable to do. The inside is kind of franchisey looking, not like a cool local hangout, but its still nice.

  • Felecia C.

Portland Pie has decent gluten free pizza, but it is made only with vegan cheese. Because their regular cheese? It's not gluten free. As in, there is gluten in the cheese. That is next to impossible (except blue cheese, and that's debatable). That's like saying there's gluten in an apple. The vegan cheese was fine but...really? I want CHEESE cheese. Portland Pie, look into decontaminating your cheese, please.

This is one of my favorite pizza places in the Portland area. Particularly because of their delicious crust. The beer crust and whole wheat crust are incredibly light and fluffy with great flavor. Most recently, I tried a new one of their specialty pizzas, the Aroostook County: Southwestern spiced chicken, tomatoes, red onion, bacon, and a swirl of ranch dressing. Delicious! Great heated up the next day as well. They always have great specials (amazing lunch specials during the off-season, great happy hour specials during the summer). The atmosphere here is nice; clean and mellow; and the servers are pleasant although not always the quickest service. There is a good selection of beers on tap as well. This is a great place, and since it's a bit off the beaten path, it is rarely too crowded. Enjoy! Buy a big pizza and eat more tomorrow!

Portland pie is great. Go for the beer crust. My sister lives in Westbrook, right next to a Portland Pie. On holidays, we get about 10 pizzas a week. Good food, delivered straight to the door. Honestly, it is the best pizza I have ever had. I would highly recommend the Harbormaster for meat lovers. Overall, the best part about Portland Pie is the variety of pizzas. They have several variations I have never come across elsewhere, and they are well executed. I have never had something here that I did not enjoy. Moreover, they are very accomodating. If you choose to eat in and the place is full, they will allow you to order your pizza and have it cook while you wait.

I wanted pizza. We went to yelp and this looked good. WOW - what an understatement. This was probably THE BEST pizza I've ever had?? for real. Their menu is huge. They even have several types of their home made crust! I had the Great Diamond pizza with Basil crust. I can't tell you just how delicious it was. The atmosphere was nice, casual, low key. lots of families, but it was still ok for us without kids (yet). They had a lot of wines on tap, but none too exciting. (6 mos preg, it didn't matter to me, but the one italian my husband chose was just OK). Still, we will definitely come back when we are in town. I wish they would deliver to Boston!! btw - this was a Friday night - as with everywhere, be prepared to wait a little bit.

I tend to have my Portland Pie delivered, even though it is better when served fresh at the restaurant. The pies here are well above average but Portland has so many pie places that I could never make this my 'go-to" pizza place. I especially like the Great Diamond Pizza. Packed with basil, three cheeses, white sauce and tomatoes, it is really packed with flavor and representative of their "specialty" pizzas. Most of the other ones showcase a meat or two and are named after areas throughout Maine. Definitely give this place a shot - I know you will if you are anything like me in ravenously devouring pizzas from every place in town!

Not only does it have vegan pizza but it has MORE THAN ONE OPTION for vegan pizza (including the option to build your own pie using vegan "cheese"). The "Old Speck" is amazing!

My husband, son and I enjoyed out Pizza there the other night. We walked over from the Holiday Inn BaySide and had a couple of great Pizza's. My son wanted the glutten free and we had the Meatball Pizza. The service was good and so were the pizzas. I would go back if we lived here. The Pizza was brought out piping hot and it was not an expensive and filling dinner.

So personally I think this is better pizza than Otto's. The first time I got it I was definitely hooked. And they have a lot of fantastic toppings, I got the veggie loaded with artichokes, basil, green peppers, mushrooms, etc. The crust is really delicious and the sauce was way better than Otto's. I'm only deducting one star because I think it's actually pretty pricey even compared to other pizza places in Portland.

Hotel staff highly recommended Portland Pie Co so we tried it last night. They were right! Great pizza & wings! Loved the crust. Toppings were so flavorful. Wings were jumbo. We had the Harbormaster on beer dough last night along with a white pizza (alfredo sauce) with tomato slices on garlic dough. It was so good that we'll be ordering from them again tonight! And stopping at Hannaford's tomorrow to grab some of their pizza dough to try at home. They have 4 or 5 different doughs & I want to try all the different flavors so I can choose a favorite.

Since I had a pizza delivered to my hotel room, I can't speak for the dining experience, but the pizza was excellent. Got their 'Old Port' pizza, and was very happy with it. The dough they use is especially good. The only thing that stinks about Portland Pie Co is there are none near my home in Massachusetts :)

Such incredible pizza. Nothing compares in Portland. The Buffalo chicken pizza is fantastic, so is the BBQ chicken. Lovely atmosphere inside. The whole wheat crust option makes you feel like you're being healthy while eating pizza.

Lunch with a few pies. Started out with some app that had lobster on it. That was good. Got 2 pies with four toppings. I liked the spicy chicken. The lobster dried out a bit. maybe it should be added at the end. The other topping we meat and vegetables - fresh and hot. Going back soon.

Great selection of slices, even during the down time in the middle of the day. The bar is really clean too, which is much appreciated. The whole wheat dough is exceptional . . . not dry at all like I'm used to.

I stopped in to order a take-out pizza. Ordered the Shipyard special on whole wheat crust. I sat at the beautiful copper bar for a pint while I waited. The pie arrived before I was able to finish my beer (10 minutes)! Very friendly staff, a great layout, and an awesome variety off beers on tap. I couldn't wait to dig into the pizza, so I had a slice at the bar. Veggies were slightly browned, the crust was crisp but not overly cooked, and there was just the right amount of cheese.

This is where you order pizza from in Portland. Delivery is reliable and the pies are usually excellent. Their subs aren't bad either. I theoretically prefer Flatbread Company but it's actually hard to compare the two businesses. Edit: They just moved to a new location that is much better for sitting in and has a sports-bar type feel. Not bad.

The service was as half baked as the pizza, and at least the pizza was warm. The pie was standard. A domino's with flavor, and the rest of the diner's seemed satisfied enough, but I guess as an east coaster I expect more from a restaurant that professes to specialize in pizza.

These guys are a bit too absurd for me to deal with. We had a three strikes you're out type of deal. First a wrong order ending in a promise not being kept and well lets just say we got nothing for all the times we came back and just got screwed every time. So, on to bigger and better things.
