The signage out front may look like it's from another era, but don't be fooled! If you like soft serve ice cream, this is the place to be! It's an institution in North Deering and rightly so. There are usually a handful of daily soft serve flavors including the regular vanilla and chocolate, but they also add in some that will smack you upside the head with their deliciousness. The past two times I've visited, I had tiramisu and black raspberry. Both amazing! I'm a purist at heart, so I prefer to let my ice cream be free and not dipped in a hard shell of goodness. How they dip it is a mystery to me but I believe it defies the laws of gravity and physics. How does the ice cream stay in the cone when you turn it upside down!?! Inquiring minds want to know! While I may be a purist, I also despise traditional cones with a passion, so I'm glad Lib's has a waffle cone option. When you choose a waffle cone, there is only one size and one price. You'll get a very generous serving for your money. If the small number of soft serve flavors have got you down, you can always try one of their arctic blasts (basically their version of a blizzard). Vanilla soft serve and your choice of at least twenty different options of toppings. There will probably be a line on the weekends or right before they close as people scramble to get a cone before they shut the blinds. Also, remember to bring cash because they don't accept anything else. All the hip kids go to Lib's, you should try it out too!

If you ever think back to the old days of playing SimCity in school what was required to have a successful town? Police? Firehouse? Water pumps? Making sure to fix roads? Not putting residential right next to heavy commercial properties? Alien invasions? Floods? Well in my SimCity it is required to have a neighborhood ice cream joint. How can you have a thriving happy population without it? Lib's Dairy Treats is the a North Deering institution. With plenty of flavors and combinations one really cannot go wrong with any of their options. Some of my favorite items are the just a plain vanilla in a chocolate dip or their version of a blizzard. Last time I went it was S'more with huge chunks of marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate pieces in a large Dixie cup. Summer hours are open until 9:00 PM. Just keep sure to bring CASH (Money). Check out this landmark spot

Don't be fooled by the appearance! Their soft serve is DElish! I went for my first visit with a few friends, and we were all pleased. Their sundaes looked great, I got a twist with a toasted coconut dip... Yum! They also have slushies for your vegan/ dairy free friends. The staff were young, but friendly, fast and attentive. I was impressed with the number of people there on a Monday night - Lib's is clearly a local hot spot! They've got plenty of parking, too. It's not the most convenient location, but it you're running errands or out that way, it is worth a visit! Remember cash - if you forget there is an ATM across the street.

Gotta show love for my neighborhood ice cream stand. Yes, I'm lactose intolerant, but sometimes a girl just needs an ice cream cone. Lib's is a no frills kind of place. It's cash only. They have your typical soft serve ice cream with all the usual accoutrement. There's not a lot of seating. The lines are long. But you now what? Thats part of the charm! Tonight we stopped by and got a kiddie-sized chocolate dipped in chocolate cone and a small vanilla dipped in butterscotch for less than $5. We ran into an acquaintance and we leaned against our car and tried to eat our ice cream cones as fast as possible before they had a chance to drip down our hands and onto the pavement. It was all so simple and unglamorous, but it made me nostalgic for my childhood summers when I considered a simple soft serve cone decadent. I was never able to finish it before it melted all over my hands and tee-shirt and would mysteriously find it's way onto my forehead and into my hair. Thirty some odd years later, I'm a little bit better (but not much) at keeping myself relatively un-sticky, and my tastes are more refined, but I enjoy Lib's for it's simplicity and air of innocence and hope someday I'll have children to treat to a Lib's ice cream treat.

In this era of chain and/or gourmet ice cream (B&Js, DQ, Cold Stone, etc), it's nice that you can still find affordable mom & pop places like Lib's to fulfill your summertime ice cream addiction. There's really nothing that distinguishes this from other local soft serve places - they all have the same sundaes/splits/shakes/frappes with different names - and this just happens to be the local North Deering one. Their portions - at least for their 'arctic blast' - are huge, so prepare yourself for that. I ordered a medium, but a small (or kiddie size?) totally would have done the trick. So. Much. Ice. Cream. If it's warm out - or if there are summer baseball or soccer rec leagues ending anywhere in a 10 mile radius - you can count on a line and waiting at least 10 minutes between two service windows.

Likes: soft serve rotating flavors, convenient location with parking, arctic blast menu Dislikes: they don't have cake batter every time I go .... Despite my constant desire for their cake batter soft serve, libs is a great ice cream shop which never ceases to have a line (at least when it's nice out). I always look forward to my first libs trip of the season!

Obsessed with fudge nut parfaits. Just as good as dairy queen's peanut buster parfaits

Just another okay place to be. A decent dairy treat shoppe with the intermediate flair hear and there. Before you enter the area. The exterior is sorta weird! It has weird. Rotting paint and a single signpost. So there! But the prices are super cheap! Like $3.50 for a small cone! And yet even the small cones are a bit big. So this place is for real ice cream fans. And the staff is very polite! With nice service here and there. Everywhere! When you get seated. You see that there is very limited seating. But there is one great spot. A big bench for friends and family... Right on the curb! And all if the food is just delicious. Overall. This is a decent place for eating out for dairy goods. If you want a good place for some lick smacking treats. Go here!

Had my first Lib's of the season this past weekend and it did not disappoint! Prices are very reasonable (cash only!) - you can expect a line when it's nice out, but don't let that deter you.

I like Lib's, but it's not a destination for me like other ice cream shops are. Don't get me wrong it is delicious, but it's a place I go if I'm in the area and it's convenient. Their soft serve blizzard-like treats are good, but their ice cream is quite expensive. I've gotten chocolate ice cream with cookie dough both times I have been and it's good, but not worth the price. It is cash only. The staff is always very friendly and sweet. They have alright outdoor seating, but not enough for the crowds they produce. You're better off sitting in your car because the tables are typically dirty. The ice cream is ice cream here (if that makes sense) and it will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
