Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

A friend and I were in Maine for the holidays and stumbled upon this place thanks to Yelp -- our stomachs were stupid happy that we did! We ordered the fresh guacamole, chipotle chicken, and the chipollo chicken and were in love from the first bite. The food had a welcomed Texmex feel and made us wish we lived closer. Miguel, our waiter, was also extremely courteous and made the experience that must better. The only down side was the lack of signage in the front of the restaurant. The building holds two separate restaurants: the other, Thai cuisine, has signs all around but we just walked into the unmarked door hoping we'd found Casa Fiesta.

A pitcher of Margaritas, fresh guac and a sizzling veggie fajita, the perfect meal on a chilly day. Though it wasn't the best food I've ever had I really did enjoy it. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for warm, both temperature wise and the decor. From the second I got out of the car I could smell the grilling steak which smelled amazing. The service was great as well considering the number of guests to the small number of wait staff. The important thing, the margaritas were great and the restaurant was clean and warm.

This place is not good. You should really consider going to another Mexican restaurant in Portland. As other people have mentioned, the food is fried to the point of being unrecognizable and everything is covered in a thin canned cheese sauce. The vegetables were few and far between and not fresh. The atmosphere was dark and dreary. From my seat in the booth, I counted 20 blown light bulbs. To be fair, my boyfriend enjoyed his margarita and we haven't gotten sick. Yet.

Casa Fiesta is the latest restaurant in the location of death on Forest Ave. Will it survive? Probably not, but I hope they have a good run. The interior has been tastefully remodeled and succeeds in the Mexican theme. It looks a lot like Margaritas. The menu is surprisingly corporate. It feels like a chain, even though there's only one other location (in Biddeford). There's pages upon pages of the usual Mexican fare. An appetizer of fried jalapeños could have been in the frozen section of a supermarket. The guac, on the other hand, was fantastic. The server made it fresh from a cart at the table, and it was a winner. The chicken quesadilla was not crisp. It was limp and soggy. The burritos were the biggest I have ever seen. Double the size of Chipotle. They didn't disappoint. We were there for a birthday party and the excellent server handled our table of 12 with ease. He had no problem with separate checks and the water and drink refills were constant. So while the food was hit or miss, the margaritas were a home run. The regular margarita was $8 and the grande was $10.50. Easy decision, right? Out comes a swimming pool of booze. It was the largest drink I have ever been served. After half I had to stop in order to avoid an OUI. These are a great value. Overall I'd recommend this restaurant. The food isn't the best Mexican in the city, but it's cheap. The service is great and the drinks are huge and strong. You can do worse for cheap and greasy Mexican.

Just had a great dinner here!- service was prompt and the food was amazingly tasty!- $18 -pitchers of Margarita s and fresh guacamole- who could ask for more!!

Gag me with a maggot. This is the saddest "Mexican" food In Portland. The nachos are smothered in some ungodly white canned cheese sauce. My daughter's burrito was also smothered in the same sickly sticky stuff. The tortillas were stale. The salsa (also out of a can) was bland. I ate a little bit...I hope I'm not praying to a porcelain god later today.

Mariachi Singer Fridays! I have been here a few times, and recently began bringing the family on Fridays - the kids love the serenade, and the atmosphere. All the staff are very nice and the food is great as well! My husband is stuck on the carnitas and gets that same dish every time, while I like to mix it up and check out something different every time. This past time I got a combination dish that had a taco, 2 enchiladas, and tacitos (I think that is what they are called? it was a roll). All were good and very filling. The kids enjoy the selection as well and can order traditional Mexican or American cuisine. The margaritas are great as well...and huge. The price is right for a family of 5. Definltely worth checking out when you are in the mood for authentic Mexican!

We have eaten here a couple of times and have been very happy each time. The food is quite good, with an extensive menu. The combo meals offer a great mixture of options if you have a difficult time making a decision. In addition to great food, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. There is a mariachi player on Friday nights who did a great job. We have found a new go-to Mexican restaurant!

Casa Fiesta is an ok option for tex mex in Portland, but there are better options in the area (I'd much prefer a Fajita Grill in Westbrook or El Rodeo in So Portland). This was our second experience there, we had the Carnitas (which were ok) and the Enchilada dish (the corn tortillas were not fully cooked) with all four filling options. Our friends had the steak burrito (it really is giant) and the nachos. The house margarita was ok - more sweet than sour. The server was friendly but neglected to refill our chip basket and our water, and forgot to return with extra tortillas for the carnitas (she brought them when I reminded her and asked for a box for my leftovers, and then removed the charge from the bill, which was very good). Overall, it was fine, and I'll likely return if that's where friends or coworkers want to go.

Yummy quick Mexican at a good price! Probably the best place that has been in this "quick turnaround" spot. Table side guacamole was pretty cool and delicious! I had a small house margarita which was huge! Next time I'll try the margarita with the corona. Went for Cinco de Mayo with a half off coupon which you weren't supposed to use on a holiday but they helped us out! Will definitely go back!

DO NOT take a trip to Texas for the Tex-Mex with this place so near by! I was born and raised in SE Texas and was amazed that this place ranks right up with my favorites from back in Texas! Everything was incredible and I wish I could have tried so many more items on the menu.

Five of us including my granddaughter had dinner this past Friday night. Very busy but we were well serviced. We had a variety of dishes including tamales, chimichangas, fish tacos, shrimp quesadillas, etc.. Everything was fine but not excellent. Much better than the chain places out by the mall and not overpriced like Zapotekas. Our only complaints, sauces were thin and the food was under spiced. I think they are being too judicious in not wanting to over tax the "Maine" palate. My gut feeling is they will take the positive comments and suggestions and become the "real" deal for us common folk.
(4)Claire R.
The guacamole was amazing! They come right to your table and make it in front of you. It's $7.99 and we were able to share between 3 of us. It's a must if you go!
(4)Mary L.
I came here with extremely low expectations since it has been a few very bad business's. I thought it was great! I had a mojito and shrimp enchiladas! Yummy! They also had great complimentary warm house tortilla chips and salsa. Salsa tasted homemade, very strong in cilantro which I love! Everyone was attentive and so friendly....authentic Mexican!

Good food. Tall glasses of beer for $5 not too bad. Went with my partner and got the fajitas for two (22.99) im a big boy and I can eat. There was so much food I reached my limit. Not to mention the unlimited free chips and salsa. Also got the guacamole salad (1.99) yummmmmo... ill be back

sickening! my girlfriend and I trust Yelp and were seeking out a place to eat while in town and decided on this hell hole. we were greeted by an indifferent hostess who literally tossed menus at us and walked away. before even asking what we wanted to drink he muttered "have you decided?" we ordered. neither of us got through half our meal before we realized we made a big mistake. we spent the rest of our day (our first day of our weekend getaway) sick as dogs, unable to even crawl to the bathroom to get sick in our bathroom. STAY AWAY!!

HORRIBLE place. I only gave it one star because I had to. My boyfriend and I got food poisoning from it. We drove all the way from CT and had to miss our whole evening plans ( an expensive concert we had been looking forward to for months) only to spend it sick as dogs on our hotel room. DO NOT GO HERE. Thanks Casa Fiesta for a terrible trip to remember. Absolutely appalling.

I went on a Friday night with my wife and son. No wait on seating and I was very impressed by the spaciousness and cleanliness. My wife had carnitas tacos and I had the grande steak burrito. Both came out in a timely manner, were presented well on the plate and were delicious. Casa Fiesta manages to balance the charm and service of a family restaurant with the polish and timing of a higher end place. We will definitely return and highly recommend a visit.

Real, authentic Mexican! I always judge Mexican cuisine by their salsa and refried beans. This place has both. And the price was very reasonable.
(5)Derek D.
My friend and i recently visited casa fiesta and was ecstatic to find out they had a large deck on the back of the restaurant. It was about 75 degrees and sunny so we jumped at the opportunity to grab a table outside and sip on a margarita. So the atmosphere was amazing, and to our surprise our food was even better! My friend and I got the tacos de carne asada and carnitas. Hands down the best Mexican food in Maine! I already have plans to go back next week!
(5)Julie L.
Really good food, great service, and yummy margaritas! Using the yelp $10 deal made it even more enjoyable! :) We went in not knowing what to expect, but the food was actually awesome and tasted authentic and with real effort and experience put into it.

Very nice restaurant. The wait staff was friendly and warm. We had Mexican French fries nachos. The portion was very generous for the price. Very tasty. We will definitely go there again.

Finally! A real Mexican restaurant in Portland. And a good one at that. As a recent transplant from Colorado, my husband and I proclaimed that good Mexican food was a major hole in the Portland food scene. Not only is it tasty, but there are some unusual offerings that you don't see on every menu. I had some vegetable enchiladas for lunch today that had nice sauteed veggies - corn, mushrooms, zukes - and were topped with a spinach sauce. Nice. We'll definitely make this one of our go-to lunch and dinner spots. Since we moved here in the summer, there's been a sign that said "coming soon"... for months our anticipation grew, and now that it's open, they've really delivered.

My wife and I went for dinner with a Yelp coupon a couple weeks ago to try this place out. A lot of restaurants have been at this location over the past few years and most have been pretty terrible. Casa Fiesta was a very pleasant exception! The decor was nice and the wait staff friendly and prompt. The menu had a lot of different choices and was reasonably priced. I'd say it is Americanized Mexican food but trying to be more than the typical Margarita's or El Rodeo in the area. My wife's margarita was tasty. Her entree of the pineapple fajitas was excellent. My chimichanga was very good. The re-fried beans were excellent. Deducting one star because the waiter seemed a bit rushed at the end and did not ask if we wanted desert (we did). I'm putting this down to only having been open a week or so when we went. But we were very satisfied and will be back soon. Give this place a try!

A welcome addition to this strip of Forest Ave. We had a weekend lunch with the kids. I had enchilada poblano which had a nice molé sauce. Much better than I expected The carnitas tacos looked good and got a thumbs up. Refrained beans were tasty. We split chile rellenos too and they were the best dish. Soft light batter with a nicely spiced sauce. Kids had quesadillas- no complaints. Service was efficient and pleasant.

OMG !! So good ! This Mexican hasn't been this happy on the east coast ever when it comes to Mexican food!!! If you want REAL Mexican food and great service, this is the place for you

We always get the table side guac, and it's fantastic. And, we always get great, friendly service. Amybeth Hurst

The food is the best Mexican around. These are the same guys from Casa Fiesta in Biddeford in front of Target. Great guacamole and salsa. Try the Hawaiian fajitas.

Our new favorite Mexican restaurant! Beautiful, rustic decor and consistently good food. Very family friendly, and great atmosphere! I've heard others say that there have been a lot of businesses in and out of this place, though I sure hope this place is here to stay! Don't leave us, Casa Fiesta!!!
(5)Miguel A.
As Mexican as it gets! Very friendly atmosphere and even better food. I took my family for a great dinner night and we all enjoyed it. I had the Seafood Molcajete and loved every bite. The Coconut Margarita it's a must! Definitely a great place to meet with friends and have drinks or bring the family for a nice lunch or dinner! I am totally coming back to this place.

Four of us just came home after having fantastic meals at Casa Fiesta. We all just loved the food. For me, it is the best, most authentic, Mexican food I have eaten in Portland. The cook is from Mexico and you can tell he knows what he is doing! I have been there 4 times and will continue to go when I have a yen for excellent Mexican food. Wait until you taste their fresh guacamole! I love the chorizo they make in house and have ordered their tacos de chorizo on corn tortillas. My husband had the Texas fajitas and couldn't get over how delicious the flavors were. Topped our meal off with bottles of Sol and a great meal was had by all. This place is only months old, so be sure to try it and then tell your friends. By the way, on this lovely night, we sat outside and had our meals on there deck.

I ordered the taquito platter and found the bottom inch of a toothpick mixed in with the salad that came with it. Thank god I didn't swallow it! The manager promptly addressed the issue and said that the kitchen staff uses toothpicks to hold the taquitos together while they bake, but that does not explain how the sharp end of a broken toothpick ended up mixed into my salad. The staff was friendly and the manager comped the meal, which is the only reason I'm giving it two stars. I won't go back. There are too many good restaurants in Portland to risk a lacerated intestine over some taquitos!

We enjoyed the meal - it's still somewhat Americanized Mexican, but it was a good meal. I had a shrimp quesadilla and the shrimp were cooked perfectly and had good flavor - doesn't always happen at mexican restaurants. we had the fresh table side guac which was also very good. Chips were crisp and fresh...overall a good meal for a good price. We'll be back...but wish the beans were more flavorful, they were the only downside to the meal.

The best decor of any Mexican place in Maine. I live in the hood and this place is decent, really three stars but I want to give them a fair shake for this location with big turnover of restaurants since Raul's so long ago. The place is very inviting with carved wood, gorgeous in a solid fancy Mexican way and ideal for large parties with some long communal tables. They put a lot into it. The only suggestion is to put in dimmable low wattage bulbs in the sides where all the booths are bathed in bright harsh light. The service was great and friendly. The food does need some attention. The tilapia fish tacos were great but had a side of very bland rice and the salsa verde was a bit glutinous. The chips homemade but the salsa mild, weak and there was also an ok "white dip" which often may have mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic, cumin, oregano and crushed red pepper flakes but not sure if this filled the bill. The guacamole stand is a treat with fresh table side service, but the use of garlic powder instead of fresh garlic was a disappointment. This business has so much potential and I hope they succeed but they will have to bring the food presentation and preparation up a couple notches to compete in the Portland food scene, especially on Forest Ave, a terrific ethnic area with the best of Iraqi, Vietnamese, (and lobster rolls!), in the state. Adding local fish and meats would of course be an extra boost, something most other Mexican joints do not boast.

Meh-exican food. With apologies to the 4-5 star reviewers, the food was bland. I agree that the atmosphere is charming, the staff warm, and the portions are generous. We (2) arrived at 7:30 on a Saturday to find a full but not packed house. Seated promptly we waited only briefly for our server. Though warm, she didn't know the prices or the sizes for the draft beer offerings -- perhaps some better training is needed. We ordered the Special Dinner (13.99) for he and the Combo Bravo (11.99) for me in order to get a broad range of items on our first visit, and a side of guacamole. Every item on the plates was bland and tasteless, the ground beef in my taco was mush and the chicken in my enchilada was chewy. His relleno was large but flavorless and the other items were the same as mine. Guacamole was awesome and I'd give it a 9/10, fresh and plenty of cilantro and onion to balance the creaminess of the fresh avocado. Skip it and drive over to El Rayo in downtown or if you want great food near Casa Fiesta head over to Po'Boys on Forest Avenue.
(2)Margo D.
Love what they have done with this place as far as decor and ambience go. Good service from waitstaff, too. However, the food is very bland and mediocre. Have to say I am originally from California, and do like spice in my food. I don't know if they think Mainers can't handle any flavor in their food, but they really need to ramp it up here. We had to ask for some hot sauce to add to our salsa because it was so flat. Frozen margaritas were very tasty, have to say. The rest was a yawn.
(2)Katrina S.
One word that defines this place is Meh. A big royal Meh. That was nothing wrong, but there was nothing right either. Food was bland but plentiful. Service was a bit spotty. Tons of people checked on us, but without consistency we ended up repeating ourselves over and over. I don't think I will bother returning.
