One word: Service. This restaurant is doing what their neighbor, Jackie's Too, fails to do: appreciate their customers. I had a lobster roll which was perfectly fine. The view: spectacular. The server: gracious, friendly, and efficient. The hostess/manager: accommodating. In fact, she was so accommodating, she opened the outside seating area just for us. Definitely a place I'd return to spend my money.

I got the half roasted chicken. It was cooked all the way through, actually cooked a little too much. It was very dry and chewy. My husband got the seafood trio, scallops, shrimp and haddock, he said it was good. My husband also got the garden salad which had a moldy tomato in it. We showed the server right away and all we got as a "sorry." I asked for the check and we left. If they can't notice a moldy tomato in a small side salad then what else is getting past them in that kitchen.

One star. Ugh where do I start?! We went here right after my best friend got married for a celebratory dinner. We had about 8 people in our party and we're all very laid back. To start out, I ordered the chicken sandwich as I was completely seafooded out from my Maine and New Hampshire trip. I wanted the half chicken and to upgrade my side to the clam chowder. The waitress let me know that that was not an option and I would have to pay full price ($7) for the replacement. I went with the chicken sandwich instead. When they brought my sandwich out, I bit into it and the chicken was very overcooked to the point I had to hold it in my teeth and pull with my hands to take a bite. I would've sent it back but the waitress never came back to check on me....Ontop of that issue, one of the lobsters my friend ordered was not cooked properly. At this point, we let the waitress know what items would be on which check as we were almost done eating. She said she understood and went to figure the receipts out. My friend who was on the same check as me had a dessert with their meal. When the waitress came back with some receipts, I asked her about the dessert as we were getting ready to leave and she said that the patrons were suppose to wave her down and ask for their dessert; she wasn't suppose to ask if the patrons were ready. Anyways, I asked for the options and she pulled out a dessert menu and said anything on the menu came with the meal. SWEET! There were really amazing desserts on there and they were kind of pricey so I triple checked with her to make sure that was correct. I ordered the sundae. She brought it out about 10 mins after she started giving people receipts. I looked at my friends and they seemed rather confused on their receipts. It turns out that the waitress just 'guessed' what was on each persons receipt so my items were in with my friends items who were in with their friends items etc etc. I finished my ice cream about 10 mins after I got it and I still hadn't gotten my receipt. At this point, we hit the 30 minute mark of this receipt fiasco. I finally got my receipt and it was wrong as well. She also included the dessert that was suppose to be free and that I triple checked on. I had to wave her down again to get it corrected. One thing I should mention is they added a 20% tip on all of our bills and DID NOT TELL US. Most of us tipped extremely generously ontop of what was already included as this was not clarified to us at any time during the meal. One of our friends pointed it out on theirs because the math didn't add up and so that was another fiasco. We came in for the view and to hang out /relax after an already hectic day and to be honest this experience was even more of a big deal than the entire wedding was. I think their saving grace is that tourists frequent the place so there is little to no repeat business.

The Oarweed has an amazing view of the ocean and is located at the start of the Marginal Way. If you want decent food with a view I'd recommend the Oarweed, but you'll pay for that experience. Although the food is decent, the price is steep. Our lobster rolls were $19 each with chips and coleslaw. The lobster tasted nice, but unfortunately there wasn't a lot of lobster meat on the roll. I know that the pricey seafood is typical around the touristy Ogunquit area, but the Oarweed at least has a beautiful view with the price. There are seating options outdoors, indoors, and there is also a covered room with large open windows.

Don't waist your money here! Poor service or close to none, mediocre food. The only thing this restaurant has is a nice ocean view, which you can get at other places nearby :(

We had the best waiter in the house Thomas! Good food great place. Perfect.

New England seaside summer personified. We trek here yearly for our annual lobster fest - which includes homemade blueberry pie, hot fudge Sunday, and Brownie Overboard. The chowders are really awesome - especially the seafood chowder. We recognize the manager every year (always a good sign) - orchestrating seating & service. Happy, energetic staff - working hard to please. Superb service - million-dollar views (inside/porch/outside). Great place for kids too - super family friendly.

A solid three stars, for A-OK, but not quite fours stars for I'm a fan. It's good, but it's just not anything to write home about. I went on a day that was stormy. It was very fun to see the angry sea out the windows. The setting, at the end of the Marginal Way, is spectacular. Be sure to walk the Marginal Way while you are in Ogunquit!

We are longtime Maine vacationers and our family loved this place! Service was incredible as was the seafood chowder, which we all got as part of our Shore Lobster dinner. Lobsters, nice sized for their listed weight, were done perfectly. We had delicious Key Lime squares and Indian Pudding for desserts, included in the Shore dinner. A very good meal indeed!

Food tastes good but small portions for full price. You pay for the view. Lobster roll was tiny. Barely half of a hotdog roll.

  • Thomas L.

The lobsters were overcooked according to my family. They forgot to bring out my sister's lobster. I had the lobster roll. Lobster tasted fresh but overall average as the bun was nothing spectacular. We ordered the Salmon for the kid's and that surprisingly was the highlight of the meal. The kids didn't eat much of it so it ended up being my dinner. Salmon was cooked on a wood plank attached to the bowl. Atmosphere wise -- It have the benefits of having the ocean view.

We got to the restaurant just before noon and were seated outside promptly. The view is great. This is the spot if you like people watching. Everyone on Marginal way has to pass here. We had a great waitress, Shelby, who took care of us. We had steamers, lobster roll and clam chowder combo, boiled lobster, beer and margarita. The sun was shining, clouds came to provide shade when needed, and the wind kept us cool. As we were leaving we saw the long line of people waiting. So come early!

Real green lettuce, wonderful shrimp, lovely service. And the sundaes were amazing. Perfect lunch joint for a hot day.

Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Southern Maine coast, and Oarweed was a great choice for dinner one night. The restaurant is located in the popular Perkins Cove area, and two huge pluses... free valet parking. Otherwise, you're looking at paying $10-15 to park in the area. The floors are a marine finish highly polished wood which looks awesome, and the tables match so you feel nautical from the start. We sat a table by the windows and had a lovely view of the coast, Marginal Way, and folks enjoying the beach. Hubby had a Shore Dinner of chowder, lobster, and dessert - I opted for a baked seafood trio not really in the mood to crack a lobster. Everything was good and felt very "real" if you know what I mean. For dessert we shared the dark chocolate cake... OMG, so good, so rich... wowza! And after such a hearty dinner, it was great to simply turn left out the restaurant doors and walk a bit on the Marginal Way... beautiful, just beautiful. We also popped in the Christmas shop directly behind them.. how can you go wrong with a fun Christmas shop, that view, and a walk on Marginal Way? Charming area, nice people, and the tab for two was under $70. You won't be sorry!

Sorry to say, but the best aspect of this restaurant is the ocean view. Don't understand the no fried food options on the menu either. Fried food is not healthy, however tend to bend the rules and indulge myself. Furthermore the prices are not in par with the quantity/quality of the servings. Will definitely skip next time.

Not thrilled. Cocktail was too sweet. Food was just ok. Service just ok. Don't know if I'll be back next year.

Definitely did not like this place. Right on the ocean, such a shame. They served NO fried seafood! No French fries! WHAT? Had a burger, with chips. Blah

Every year we visit the area we have dinner here. Every time it is excellent! Hubby had a Niger which he really enjoyed and I had " hold the shell". It was fantastic! The view, food are worth it! Next year we will definitely stop here as well, always worth it!

I have been eating at Oarweed's since 1994. While the service can be somewhat distracted, from time to time, it doesn't change the fact that the food is fresh & terrific, the view is astonishing, and the servers are very nice. I typically get steamers and lobster, but I adore their chowders (fish or clam), as well as the twice-baked stuffed potatoes. I would not recommend going for non-fish/seafood items, although they are available. Stick with lobster, clams, broiled fish, etc. and you really can't go wrong. They have a decent craft beer selection, some nice wines by the glass, and the requisite rum punch type drinks.

A great spot over the water in a landmark Ogonquit location. Delicious drinks and food as people walking the ocean path pass by.

The view was top notch!! Felt like we were looking out at a painting! This is our first time in Maine so my son & I decided to get our first lobster roll. It looked amazing BUT disappointing. I did like the toasted bread it came on but the lobster wasn't seasoned at all. Wasn't what we expected but the ambience was amazing and my daughter got the Maine shrimp sandwich and liked it but the coleslaw that came with it was too sweet. My husband got the crabcakes. He wasn't a fan. But I have to give this 4 stars because the service was amazing and the view was out of this world. Oh, and the crispy potato skins didn't indicate that they had bacon on them and my daughter is a vegetarian.

Had a Sales Meeting in Portsmouth, NH for 60 people from around the country as well as France. Wanted to give them the Maine Lobster experience so we booked the room with the cove view for the evening. Our school bus showed up and immediately was directed to a parking space that had been set aside for us. The staff was fantastic. Pitchers of beer, steamers, chowder flowed freely. Almost everyone ordered the Lobster and as they were served, they were hot and ready to be torn into. The sides were prepared to perfection and everyone had a fantastic time. So many of our guests were absolutely thrilled with the dinner, experience and atmosphere. I personally was impressed with the staff's ability to handle a group of 60 people so efficiently. Will definitely be back at next sales meeting. This place made me look like a superstar. Thank you!

We were so impressed with the tenderness of the lobster and the REAL friendly connection with the waitstaff and proprietor that we came back a second time during our stay in Ogunquit! It was a comfortable and welcoming experience, surpassing others we had in the neighborhood. HIGHLY recommended!

I was in Perkins Cove yesterday enjoying an evening out with my boyfriend when we walked by Oarweed and thought it would be a nice spot to stop in for a drink and some food. We walked into the restaurant and a man (if that is what you want to call him) stormed over to me got in my face pointed to the door and screamed OUT at me. I can't imagine speaking to an animal in this way. I told him not to scream at me and he barked this is a private event. Apparently he had taped a piece of paper to the door that said so, but it was not very visible and we did not see it. Maybe an excuse me miss we are closed for a private function, but we'd love to have you come back another time. After looking at their website the "man" who did this was apparently one of the owners named Jeff. As you can see on the website he has all his employees wear shirts that say I know Jeff!! What a douche. As a woman I have never been spoken to by a man like that in my life. I was horrified and my evening was completely ruined. I will never step foot in there again and am making sure everyone I know and all social media is aware this man thinks its okay to get in a woman's face and scream at her.

Ended up here after lunch hour because I didn't want to pay a parking fee at the nearby lots (2 hours is equal to the price of a bowl of chowder). I would rather pay for food and park for free. Needless to say, the location of this restaurant is superb. It is right at the entrance of Marginal Way and it is a short walk to the rest of the shops (& cafés) in Perkins Cove. Because it was shoulder season and after lunch, we were seated immediately. We chose a table right by the window and enjoyed the view of the crashing waves while staying nice and warm inside the restaurant. Our server was friendly enough but quite curt. Because we weren't as hungry and knew we could get lobster rolls and dinners elsewhere, we ordered simply. My mom got a bowl of seafood chowder and my sister and I got cheeseburgers. The chowder was quite tasty. It had clam, haddock, shrimp and scallops so it was quite tasty. It's texture was halfway between broth and the creaminess of regular clam chowder. Each spoonful yielded seafood so the soup was pretty substantial. The cheeseburgers, I have to say, were pretty good. Surprisingly! I didn't think if have anything to say about it but the patty was cooked and seasoned well and the bun was soft and sweet. My only gripe about the experience is that the burgers were served in a paper tray. I know it's supposed to be casual dining but I was expecting the burgers to be served on real plates. I understand that if it was much warmer and the windows were open to let in the sea breeze and sound of the waves, it would fit perfectly. Bathroom is single use only and small but it's clean. After the meal, we left the car in the lot and burned off the calories walking to the shops in Perkins Cove. An afternoon well spent. :)

We stopped here after walking the Marginal Way for some fresh seafood. We had lobster rolls and seafood chowder. I've never had a lobster roll, it was ok... but the seafood chowder was out of this world! Very tasty! We sat at an outside table to dine after a fun day of sight seeing.

great seafood chowder, chewy clams, slow (but friendly) service, great wine, caesar salad swimming in too much dressing. it's average for your tourist place in ogunquit.

  • Erin K.

Over-priced, crappy food. I frequent Perkins Cove, but this is the first time I've eaten here. It will be my last. The prices are large, while the entree sizes are not. My fish sandwich was about 2"x2". It was breaded in something that resembled the coating on a fast food sandwich. There is no fried food on the menu. Service was slow.

  • James H.

Good joint. We started the walk through Marginal Way at the beach and ended in Perkins Cove as so many do. Beautiful walk. I highly recommend hitting this place up for a drink and an app. I would spend time here for dinner with Jackie's Too close by. Great mixed drinks. We sat outside, good for people watching, conversation and scenery. We had soup and potato skins. Both tasted like they came out of a TGIFriday's frozen app package that you can buy for $4.99 and cook at home. Not great, but fine..whatever, you know? Again, go here prior to one of the other places to chill for a minute, take the edge off, and save your appetite!

Tasty, relaxed, and fun. This is literally my family's first stop when we arrive in Ogunquit for vacation every year, and it's always great. The "go to" spot for lobstah. We've tried other places when the wait here is long, and we've always regretted it. Better to just wait it out here -- yum!

  • Cheryl K.

The best thing about this place is the location. Right on the water at Perkins Cove (at the south end of the Marginal Way path) The second best thing about this place is the free valet parking. The third best thing is the rum punch...tasty and strong. The food does not make it onto the list of best things. We ordered a grilled chicken breast sandwich and a cheeseburger. Both were freezer items, not fresh. Both were flavorless. Both came with a bag of chips. We also ordered the Parmesan potatoes...fancy name for dry boring potato skins. We will not return.

  • Violet R.

Great location and great views. Really enjoyed the grilled crab salad sandwich with melted swiss, but the grilled wheat was a little on the greasy side. The crab however, was so tasty and fresh and just the right touch of mayo. Loved the valet parking guys, very polite and attentive and the fact that you can park here for free versus paying $15 at the lot next to it is a BIG plus in my opinion. We made sure to give the Valet a big tip! Went in to have lunch around noon and there was no wait, but service was very slow, so that was the only down side. Plenty of wait staff, so I'm not sure why they took so long. A couple of them seemed to be standing around waiting for orders, so maybe they didn't realize people were waiting. Once we got our server though, she was very nice. After lunch we left the car in the lot and walked the beautiful Marginal Way and enjoyed the amazing ocean views. Took a walk to Perkins Cove, got some coffee and went and got the car from the lot. Probably stayed there close to 4 hours!

Amazing lobster roll! So fresh ...mmm..good.Wait staff was polite and accomodating. Also do get the Brownie Overload - very delectable.Could´ve done with a tad less whipped cream perhaps - still highly recommended.Giving it 4 stars coz the "Day at the beach" cocktail was meh.Too sweet and the presentation did not live up to the image the name conjured in my head.

Step 1: Walk the Marginal Way. Step 2: Rest your weary feet at the Oarweed and order a big ass beer ( it's 26 ounces). Step 3: Order Roby's Downeaster. Step 4: Don't order the crab cakes. Step 5: Eat the crap out of the amazing clam chowder, lobster roll, and bag of Cape Cod potato chips. Step 6: Remark on how this might be the best day you've ever had.

We were staying at a hotel on the other end of the Marginal Way, so we decided to walk down here for dinner one night. So glad we did! We almost went to Barnacle Billy's, but we wanted lazy man's lobster, and Oarweed had it on the menu. Awesome food (everyone said that their meal was incredible), exceptional service, and they were able to seat our party of 11 almost immediately. Get a big beer and look out at the ocean breaking against the rocks- a great way to spend your evening.

We ate here on a whim after randomly running into some good friends. The drinks were the best part--the rum punch was strong and delicious. Between us we had lobster pie and a few other seafood dishes. The lobster pie was tasty but disappointing for the price. There was only a little bit of lobster. The service was poor. It took forever to get a drink, food or even extra napkins. I thought our server got lost at one point. There are better places to eat in the area--save your money and time!

  • Stephanie V.

As a local, we thought asking an opinion of someone who works in the immediate area about this place would be a safe bet and we were glad we did! Unfortunately, some reviewers are jaded resulting in an inaccurate review. Had I followed the reviews, we wouldn't have tried this place for the first time. As I said, we are locals. As locals, we don't get out much due to the high tourist traffic and we can buy fantastic food cheap and make it best at home. It's tough to impress me. I was impressed with the crab melt. It wasn't too fishy. Very tasty. We also had crab cakes and a fish sandwich. Both were very good, but the crab melt was definitely the best. Now, keep in mind it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. There is real crab meat in the melt and the crab cakes without much filler. Everything is perfectly cooked/grilled. Add some fresh lemon to the crab cakes and dip in the sauce and it makes your eyes roll. The fish sandwich was perfectly cooked as well. Oh, and let's not forget the blueberry pie a la mode! We never get dessert, but we were referred to their desserts as being some of the best and it was. Some things are not homemade, which was fine by us, because you can tell they focus on the more important items, which are all homemade. Well balanced. Oh and one more thing......the staff was incredibly nice! They were warm, welcoming, had smiles on their faces, attentive, etc. Well done!!

I went to Oarweed with my GF on a Saturday evening and the manager didn't want to sit us outside so he sat us in the patio. He just acted like an all-around douche to us and when we were finally sat, they ignored us. When we saw other people (that came after us) being attended to we said fuck it and left, their loss.

We are in Maine all summer and there are some really great restaurants. However The Oarweed is not one of them. We had relatives from Seattle and had walked the Marginal Way. The restaurant was not that full so we decided to try it. We ordered Seafood Chowder, baked stuffed shrimp and clam chowder. I realize this is not a take out however we waited 40 minutes for the food. And not until I complained, for the second time, was our meal delivered. The Seafood Chowder had only clams in it, the clam chowder was alright and the stuffed shrimp was tasteless. The reason given for the delay was the chef and forgotten to put the Shrimp on. As it turned out he probably should have forgotten all together. We expressed our displeasure and were never offered a discount or receive an apologize. My suggestion go to another of the many really good restaurant and forget about oarWEEDS. CLIFF. D.

The kids meals are ridiculous. $8 and drinks aren't included. They only have potato chips as a side for most of the menu. If t ends up costing over $10 per kid, and you only get potato chips, it is ridiculous. When we ordered the waiter advised us that chicken fingers take 17 minutes to make. What restaurant takes that long to make such a simple meal. When the said chips come with the meal, I was not expecting to get a paper boat that they give me at the coffee shops with three chicken fingers that looked disgusting and a bag of store bought Cape Cod potato chips placed on the top. You gotta be kidding me. For a way overpriced restaurant, I would expect way more. I was very disappointed and will not be returning. For a major vacation spot in Maine I would expect them to be very kid friendly. For a restaurant on the water, why wouldn't they take full advantage and attract as many people as possible. Overall prices are ridiculous for what the food is. For $10 in Boston for one kid I could eat at a really nice restaurant. The view is great, but for the price, it's ridiculous. I don't mind paying for good food, but this food is horrible.

We went in for lunch this past Saturday. It was a glorious September Saturday and not a cloud in the sky. The Oarweed has a multi-million dollar location right on the Atlantic coastline. It borders the wonderful Marginal Way, which you can hike before or after your meal. All the tables have a fantastic view of the ocean and Ogunquit beach. Valet parking, next to a $15 lot and they let you stay as long as you want. So you can hike the Marginal Way after, or do a little shopping. Now the food. The menu is slim and expensive, the offerings range from clam and seafood chowder, lobster rolls, grilled cheese, baked or broiled seafood of all types (scallops, shrimps, haddock). I do not believe they have fried foods here. Portions are small to moderate. Pricey here but you pay for the view. Full bar available.

It's our tradition to sample at least one lobster roll each day of vacation. Well, this spot served the King of rolls- sweet, tender, warm w butter on a fresh roll & it's HUGE. Yes, ginormous! Quite enough for two to share or for one super hungry person. Chowder was excellent. They serve the usual/typical local choices but the location is nice, service is great, and the bar makes a solid spicy bloody Mary & offer nice beer choices.

Great spot, especially if you sit outside. Service can be good or average depending on the individual server. Its expensive and the food is just average. I wont return but wouldn't dissuade a less picky eater from dining there.

I've been dining at the Oarweed for many years now and find the restaurant a true Maine experience with an amazing setting overlooking the ocean. The food is very good and the service is always impeccable and very friendly. As for the idiot who commented about Chris, we have had him numerous times and always extremely pleasant, warm and engaging. Obviously the idiot doesn't eat out often because when you pay with cash, that is always the first question a waiter will ask if you need change or is this all set. I really can't say a bad thing about any of the wait staff at the Oarweed. They are the friendliest in OGT. Thanks again for another great summer. See you next year!

My husband and I were here on Labor Day for dinner as he was searching for the perfect lobster roll and this place was recommended by a local. We arrived around 8:30 and had a nice seat right outside. It was pretty busy but we did not have to sit super close to other tables which was nice as this is usual in the area. First, our waitress was phenomenal. I believe her name was Shelby and she told us she is a local high school student....impressive for such a touristy area with more experienced waitstaff. She was very friendly, efficient and she knew her stuff and she was the best waitress/waiter we had while on our stay. Also, the person who greeted us was apparently the owner - he was also very nice and attentive. My husband could not have been more pleased with the lobster sandwich - not the roll but the one on the bun. It was not overly done with fillers and had a lot of good, juicy and fresh lobster meat. I had the broiled haddock and it was the best haddock I have ever had. - very fresh and not overly done with the crumbs and butter (like a lot of places tend to do). The twice baked potato and coleslaw were also nice side dishes. The only reason this is not 5 stars is that our meal was $75 (the 2 dishes above and 2 drinks) which is fine but I feel if we pay that much our meals should come with a better presentation (i.e. - not a bag of chips in a basket).

Okay but not impressive. The menu is bland, prices are on the high side, the service was mediocre despite the fact that it wasn't crowded on the day and time we visited. Also, can be uncomfortably hot when the weather is warm as they don't seem to have AC. However, if you are hungry and need a place to sit, it will do.

  • Dawn B.

Granted this was their first night of the season, BUT the service was slow, sloppy, and paid no attention to detail. The entrees were marginal for the price. This was not the dinner I had expected in Perkins Cove, Me. Would not suggest it.

  • Chuck G.

I had the potato chowder though they had another name for it seafood chowder. There were more than enough potatoes but the dish did have some seafood in it though. My entree was baked lobster with out the shell for $29.00 I expected it to have the meat of an entire lobster, I was wrong. I probably should have gotten a lobster roll. I think they used the lobster roll portion and baked it making it over cooked and bland. My wife got the 1-1/4 pound lobster and she thoroughly enjoyed it. That is why I gave the 3 stars, my meal was 1 star at best.

I had a delicious lunch at the Oarweed on Sunday afternoon- after a chilly stroll on the Marginal way, we stopped for some seafood and amazing views!!! Even if the food wasn't good, the views and atmosphere would be totally worth the visit. But my lobster roll and clam chowder were really great and I was full on the walk back to our hotel. Very friendly service and Jeff was welcoming and made sure we had an enjoyable experience. The table across from us was enjoying a bloody mary that looked so good! I'll be back!

Very touristy location and this place gets very busy in the summer especially trying to find parking in Perkins cove. The food quality is decent. Chances are you came here because you're new to the area and it was convenient to marginal way. So if you're looking for a great location overlooking the ocean then this would be a great place to go. If however you're looking for great food and the location is not that important there are a number of places that I would rather go to such as Hurricane restaurant - yelp.com/biz/hurricane-r… further up north.

Ok, I can consider my Maine trip a success - today I had the best lobster roll I've ever had!! We went to Ogunquit specifically to try the lobster roll and chowder special (called the Roby's Downeast'r....Maine lobster roll, served with garden salad or cup of chowder, soda or coffee) and I will never forget the trip. No funny business, just a delicious buttered bun, lobster meat in a light mayo, with a pickle and chips on the side. The seafood chowder was the perfect consistency, and they had Tabasco on hand, to give it an extra "kick" - yum. We also enjoyed the fact that they have Four Vines Naked Chardonnay on the wine list. Make sure to check out Oarweed, the view alone and the friendly service is worth the trip!

Great location, with amazing views. Take a walk on the marginal way, right outside. That is a great experience. Food is standard, service is adequate. Meh, nothing stands out here except the location. One note - they do have free parking which is nice if you want to park here eat dinner and then walk around.

If it weren't for the server (very attentive and helpful) and the chowder (probably the best I've ever had and I have tried the chowder pretty much everywhere), this would have gotten one star. Crab cakes were mediocre, lobster roll was lackluster, and the rum punch smelled like it was made from nail polish remover. That being said, I would absolutely go back for infinite quantities of their delicious, creamy, wonderful chowder.

Visited on the 4th of July with my husband and our toddler. We just live about 20 minutes away but decided to play tourist for the day. Menu is very basic and plain and expensive (paying for the location). I had the lobster roll which is overpriced for what you get. Just lobster and mayo on a toasted bun with chips. I can get (and did get) the same exact lobster roll a few miles down the street for $10.00. My husband had the shrimp sandwich. The menu boasts "a boat load of shrimp" and it was mediocre at best. We each had a rum punch which was good. No kids menu but we ordered my son a veggie burger which wasn't bad. Service was just okay. Lunch for the three of us plus tip was $75 and we left hungry. My husband and I stopped at the Shore Road Market on the way home and grabbed a couple lobster rolls there to eat at home. They were exactly the same and were $10 vs. the price of $18.50 at Oarweed. I'd say with the many choices and huge variety offered in Ogunquit, we won't hurry back to the Oarweed.

Great experience! They don't take reservations so we had to wait in line, about 15 minutes, not bad for a Saturday at 6:45 pm. Our server, Eliza, was wonderful: knowledgable and friendly. The food took a little long to come but it was delicious and totally worth the wait. The scallops and salmon were especially yummy. I would definitely return.

Ok, the location is 5 stars. If you can get a seat by the window, you can stare at the ocean while eating dinner. Also, if you eat here...you get to park for free...with valet parking. But that's where the good stuff ends. The service is not good. You can tell they turn people over quickly because they don't really care about you as a customer. The food is meh and the presentation is HORRID. It felt like I was eating at a nursing home. The food comes over still in the silver pan they cooked it in...then they throw it on your plate...pan and all. So if you don't care about food, presentation, service AND can get a seat by the window...then it's a go. Otherwise, SKIP.

Had lunch here yesterday, with the wife. We thought the service was good. The food was great, but a little on the pricey side. Being in a tourist trap, that was to be expected. We both had the lobster roll which was very good. I also had the seafood chowder. The chowder had plenty of seafood and was quite tasty. To satisfy our thirst, I had a nice IPA and the wife had the rum punch. The restaurant had a great view. My only complaint would be that it was very hot in the restaurant as it was 90 degrees out.

Laarv sometimes gets forced to eat at Oarweed by her trustworthy companion. Come to Oarweed if you aren't in the mood for the fried food at Barnacle Billy's. The lobster roll comes on a hot-dog roll which is a bit of a disappointment for Laarv's companion. He does say the steamers are excellent.

We went to the Oarweed for lunch on 10/2/13 and had the great misfortune of having Chris for a waiter. Chris was the worst waiter we have ever had. He was rude, dismissive, thankless, and disappeared for lengths of time. When he brought us our lunches, he placed them on the table in front of us. We both said, "Thank you." Chris said NOTHING - no acknowledgment and no "Do you need anything right now? Another beverage?" nor "Enjoy." We had a so-called Chef's Salad and a lobster roll. The salad was $13.75 and had virtually nothing more than some greens. The lobster roll was bland. The toasted hot dog roll was the only good part. So, we eat our meals and wait and wait and wait and wait. We had wanted to order 2 more drinks plus a tuna melt to fill us up from the inadequate lunches that we had selected. So, ultimately we have to catch a waitress walking by to get our waiter, who never came by AT ALL to see if we needed anything or how the food was. We tell him, "Chris, you need to be attentive. You need to be asking us if we need anything." No response from Chris. So we order two more drinks and the tuna melt. He brings it over and again says nothing. Ultimately we get the check. It totaled $67.50. We place $80 on the check. Chris picks it up (funny how prompt he was when he was getting the money) and asks, "Do you want change?" We answer, "Yes." A couple minutes later he returns with $12.50. He puts it on the table AND WALKS AWAY!! We left $2.00 for a tip. That was $5.00 too much. Chris clearly could have cared less. Oarweed management is moronic for having him wait tables. He should be doing nothing more than busing the tables. Oarweed's food is nothing special. The pathetic waitstaff makes it sub par.

I have to give 5 stars, even though we didn't get any food. you can walk the Marginal Way and then have a few drinks with the best views EVER. I love Ogunquit and I love taking day trips up there when I have guests. It's picture perfect New England. Next time I will definitely try the food.

Great place for seafood! I went here with my family while vacationing in Ogunquit. It's conveniently located at the end of the Marginal Way in Perkin's Cove. The view is beautiful, although it was jam-packed and VERY loud inside. The lobster-stuffed haddock was delicious, as was the lemon cake we had for dessert. I would definitely recommend the Oarweed for dinner.

On our last day of vacation, we went to Oarweed on a whim. I was sad this was the last lobster meal I had. The lobster roll was tiny! It was like a slice of bread folded in half, and the lobster was cold, rubbery, and absolutely flavorless. My boyfriend had a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich, he said it was just OK. I didn't know how you could mess up grilled cheese but I learned you could by putting in a mushy, overripe tomato in. I paid $17 for a terrible meal that left me hungry. I had to eat at the airport later. For just a dollar more you can get a great lobster roll at Blue Water Inn with a couple sides and you won't still be hungry! The service was good, the hostess was very friendly and the waiter was great. The view was amazing. The outside seating overlooked the ocean and we did the Marginal Way walk after we ate. However, I will never go back to Oarweed Restaurant!

This was the first restaurant that we ever went to in Ogunquit and we like it and go back every year. It is hit or miss, but more often than not it is a hit. It is very family friendly. My son, a lobster role critic, says that they have the best around. It is not fancy, but it is a great go to place when you do not want to get dressed up.

Visited for the first time with our toddler son; scored an outdoor table overlooking the breathtaking ocean view. Service was friendly and very accommodating; food came in a reasonable amount of time, considering the number of people who were eating here (it's a pretty packed joint). Food was ho-hum; probably the best thing on the table was my son's grilled cheese.

First, they have parking. It was valet parking, next to a $15 lot (you tip the valet $5 or so, but otherwise parking is included in eating at the restaurant). We put our names in just before 7:30pm and were told it would be an hour - which turned out to be a pretty good estimate. The waitress was friendly and enthusiastic about everything on the menu - with good reason it seems from our experience! Most of us went all out and ordered the Oarweed Shore Dinner for $29 (cup of chowder, 1 1/4 lb lobster, dessert), then we upgraded to a pound and a half for $3. Both the clam chowder and the seafood chowder were thick and creamy and tasty. The rolls were boring pale things though, so I skipped them, carb fiend that I am. The lobsters came with butter, but the butter wasn't really necessary - they were that tasty! And they cracked them for us, so the cracker wasn't really necessary except maybe for the arms... I was wondering if they had steamed them with seaweed or something to give them such a good flavor. Desserts were huge! The chocolate fudge cake was too large for me to finish. The brownie in the Brownie Overload was the fudgy sort and served with mini scoops of ice cream alternatively with mounds of whipped cream, and drizzled with a red sauce (strawberry?). The blueberry pie was yummy. And the hot fudge sundaes were huge! Not that it stopped my friends from consuming them in their entirety. Food was a little slow in coming in the beginning, but afterwards it was paced well enough. Payment was accepted at the front desk, where we asked for the tickets to trade for our cards. Oh, and you have a great view of the kitchen while waiting for the bathrooms. And my personal plus - there are TWO women's room for the ONE men's room! I always thought there should be more toilets for women... since we tend to take longer and all...

I'm not sure how anyone could complain about Oarweed. I took my wife there for her birthday lunch yesterday. The steamers were excellent - great size, no sand - yummy. She had been dying to have their lobster salad again - while I tried the crabmeat melt. She loved the lobster sald and the melt was ok. For dessert we had the strawberry shortcake, which was average. Overall, the food and service were very good. Yes, the food is overpriced (an $80 lunch...) - but you can't beat the view. Only having to pay for valet parking isn't bad either. Can't wait to go back.

This place has an AMAZING view, right on the Atlantic. We sat out on the porch area and it was just such an amazing view (granted it was a little cold to be sitting there, but it was beautiful). We had Clam Chowder (Quite possibly the best I've ever had--and I've lived in Boston for 5 years)! We had the mussels, which were delicious and buttery and smooth. We also had the lobster, which was perfect and all the sides were just so much, but very tasty. Definitely a nice place to have a gorgeous lunch or dinner enjoying the view and the food! And the wait staff was very friendly and checked up on us.

We love this restaurant. We take a walk down Marginal Way and then have a fantastic dinner here. The food is always wonderful, service quick and courteous and the views from the dining room are breathtaking.

I've been to this place 3 times and had excellent chowder and lobster rolls. You can even get your lobster roll without mayonnaise. In addition, the view is wonderful. A great lunch place in Perkins Cove.

The location is great, is very family friendly and the food is good (if you get here early enough, by 5-5:30..there's not usually a wait and can accommodate a larger group). We usually go here, at least once, while in Ogunquit..and have a couple orders of lobster saute headed to our table :-)

We have been going here for 5 years and every time it is a winner. It is our first dinner stop once arriving in Ogunquit each year and we have never been disappointed. Usually we arrive around 6pm, so there is no wait for a table outside. If you don't mind people walking by your table coming off the Marginal Way, the outside area is the best seat in town. The service is good and very friendly. Yes, I do agree that the prices are a little high for what you get, but you are paying for that view! In terms of food, clam chowder to start (which is not the best in Ogunquit, but OK) and then we get either the stuffed shrimp, baked seafood platter or the haddock with lobster stuffing. The dinners come with a choice of potato or salad, and we always opt for the salad because of the delicious peppercorn dressing. Yummy!! This year we ended our meal with dessert and boy were we surpised - yummy blueberry pie with homemade crust!! To die for!! I can't wait to go back next year.....

Oarweed appeared like an oasis after traversing the treacherous and bustling Marginal Way, but was it everything we had hoped for? The short answer is - not really. Overall the food was solid, but unremarkable - not really a surprise when it's just a boiled lobster and lobster roll. However, the lobster was remarkably small in it's shell, so that an expensive ($30+) one and a half pound lobster was actually more like 5 oz of lobster - almost criminal when you consider the lobster men are getting somewhere around 3-bucks a pound. Chowder was pretty good - way better than Legal Seafoods. Also, the lobster roll was good, but small at $17. The two highlights were the excellent homemade brownie sunday, which was huge and delicious, and very good service. In fact, our waitress had such a well informed answer for why the lobster was so small, involving words like molting, constriction, etc, that we actually momentarily forgave them for charging us so much. Oh, and the view was spectacular, which might be one way that we justified spending $70+ for lunch for two... Next time I think we'll just take a picnic basket and enjoy the view along Marginal Way and save some cash.

Oarweed is a winner as far as location and ambiance are concerned. It's situated in an absolutely breathtaking spot with ocean views along Marginal Way in Perkins Cove. There is outdoor seating available, but even from indoors and even if you're not right next to the window, the views are just awesome. I would return based on the views alone. It's also very convenient that Oarweed has valet parking, because you can just drop off your car for the price of a tip, instead of trolling around the crowded streets for a non-existent parking spot, or God forbid - paying $20 in the day lot. The food? We had a typical Maine vacation lunch at Oarweed: lobster roll, haddock sandwich with clam chowder, coleslaw. Our dishes were satisfying and good, although not great. The lobster in my lobster roll was a little mushy and could have used a little more mayo, and the clam chowder didn't taste like it was made in the restaurant. Blueberry pie for dessert was good with a flaky not doughy crust. Service was friendly and, although a bit sketchy, got the job done and we didn't have to wait a long time for our food. In summary at Oarweed it's all about the view, the view, and did I mention the view?

We had lunch at Oarweed on Perkins Cove. Don't waste your hard-earned $. It was expensive and very disappointing. Service was extremely slow, although the restaurant was nearly empty, and the food was fair. I had the 'out of shell' lobster and rice pilaf. I asked if it was swimming in butter and was told it wasn't. Wrong. Also, the portion could have fit in the palm of my hand. The rice was right out of a box and cold. This was $27.00. Outrageous. Hubby had the Seafood Trio, very small portion of haddock, a scallop and 2 med. stuffed shrimp plus a baked potato that wasn't cooked thoroughly!! $20.00. A glass of diet coke and an ice tea for $57.00!!! If is was good we wouldn't have a problem.....but it was not good. I did tell the cashier that I thought the food was fair. He did apologize that we didn't like it. Oh, well.....won't return. Don't waste your time....too many other good ones. Contessa

My friends and I have been to this restaurant before and the food was fine, but yesterday 7/25/10 we went there again to celebrate my friend's birthday, and the manager was SO rude and condescending to all of us, I was totally turned off by this restaurant and will never, ever dine there again. There were 5 of us, ages ranging from 43 to 72, and he managed to speak to each and every one of us as though we were incorrigible schoolchildren. We did not even stay for dinner, we ended up going somewhere else to eat. This man needs to realize is is the clientele of his restaurant that pays his checks, and if he cannot speak to them with the respect they deserve, pretty soon he will find himself sitting in an empty restaurant with no income. In this economy, does it really make sense to alienate your customers?

this place is a hit or miss. we have had many hits but last year we had a miss x two. we were promptly seated. everyone was served around us as soon as they sat but we were completely ignored. even families with two high chairs were promptly served whereas we sat and no one even acknowledged us. we ended up walking out after 20 minutes. we then perused the other restaurants in perkins cove and decided to go back again to oarweed and pretend we were new customers. again, we were seated and ignored. we walked out and vowed never to come back. we ended up at haddock jacks and wells and enjoyed a leisurely wonderful meal efficiently served.
