They are alright. Been there a few times for takeout. Although, yesterday we got an order of general taos chicken and there was literally NO chicken in it! It was just breading!! I thought maybe I was imagining things until our teenager had some (I hadn't said anything to her about it) and SHE said there was no chicken!!

Have only ordered delivery from them. They are the only chinese food restaurant that delivers to York. So that is a huge plus. Quality of food has been good. and delivery times have been extremely fast.

Chun Ping Lau is definitely trying to please as wide an audience as they can, and I think they're doing it pretty well. The menu is extensive. If you can think of a chinese food you want, it'll probably be on the menu (with the exception of ma po tofu - but I bet if we asked for it, they'd make it for us). They also feature many of the most popular (in the US) asian dishes from other cultures - teriyaki, pad thai, vietnamese spring rolls, udon noodles, etc. We covered a few cuisines with spring rolls, chicken pad thai, chow fun noodles, char siu ding and vegetarian szechuan noodles. Everything was cooked quickly, and you can watch the progress in the kitchen across the counter. It's a family vibe, with many generations working together. They're super efficient, and our food was done in about 10 minutes. Got home, opened everything up -- veggie spring rolls were kinda boring, but I think they'd be great with a meat addition (maybe add fried tofu strips or something to the veg version - or I've had them with pineapple, which is pretty tasty) -- the chili oil served with them was great. Not too hot, not cloyingly sweet. The pad thai was on par with others in the area, with a slightly spicy sauce that I really liked, and noodles that were cooked properly - not overdone and gummy. The other two noodles dishes were also cooked well, with a decent array of vegetables. The chow fun had less sauce than we're used to, but I threw the char siu over it and it rounded them out nicely. The char siu was sliced nice and thick, with lots of celery, peppers, snow peas and other veggies - a little more meat would've made it more balanced, but it was still a great amount of food for the price. I'd highly recommend this place - it's inexpensive enough to get an entree or two you might not have had before to share across the table family style, and I love supporting family-run businesses that take pride in their work like the family at Chun Ping Lau.

I got the orange chicken last night. It was not good at all. The chicken was covered with way too much breading and tasted stale and old. Would have gave 1 star but the people were nice and the food came out quick.

Not fresh. No atmosphere. Excessively greasy. Dirty.

Worst American chinese food I have ever had. The mall chinese food is actually better. No one in there probably know the reason. Everything was re-heated, re fried watched them do it. Rice is crunchy, boneless spearibs dripping with grease and hard. Probably also thrown in fryer. Everything tasted of old oil. Hot and Sour soup was not edible very odd taste and bubbly, a sign of spoilage. Teriyaki was old beef jerky. Never again.... Don't get all the positive reviews they need to get out more.....

We ate here today and the food was great! Portions were excellent, great value and staff was very polite. I couldn't decide on what to eat so they made a combo plate for me combining 2 different plates. All our food was very hot, tasted fresh. The batter was very light, a pleasant surprise! Inside, they keep it cold so I couldn't take my jacket. Plastic ware could be upgraded but prices are excellent! I would go back anytime.

Chun Ping Lau is located along Route 1 just north of the outlets in Kittery. Each time I've driven by this place. I've seen a steady flow of customers here. I decided to check the place out for dinner takeout. Chun Ping Lau has a pretty good menu and offers Cantonese and Saechuan dishes including moo shi, yu hsiang dishes, curry shrimp, lemon chicken, and much more, as well as 36 All Day Combination Plates ($4.75-$7.25), most served with pork fried rice. They also offer pad Thai and Japanese udon noodles. They also have several tofu dishes served with steamed rice. The place inside is order at the counter with open kitchen and several tables for dining-in. Free hot tea is offered and there's also outside picnic table seating alongside the building. I wanted some basic appetizers so I decided on Chicken Fingers, Chicken Teriyaki, Crab Rangoon with a side of pork fried rice ($6.95 plus tax) and I sip on some hot tea to refresh up. The food was ready in under 10 minutes, plastic utensils provided, but grab your own sauces and fortune cookies. The 2 chicken teriyaki sticks were tender and very good. The crab rangoons had a good proportion of cream cheese and minced crab (imitation). The chicken fingers with boneless chicken strips and the crispy batter not too thick. The pork fried rice (light brown color) was standard, with some fatty pork cubes. The portion of food was fair for the price. Overall, the food was very enjoyable, better than many places near me. I'll have to try some of the chef's specialties next time. (3.75 STARS)

The most friendly family service in the area! Their food is delicious and always perfect to order. The menu is expansive but *not* expensive. We order from there often and never get tired of the selection or flavors. The service is very quick, precise and friendly. Eat in or ask for delivery! They will also customize any meal for you, with substitutions upon request. Personal favorites include the veggie fried rice, crab rangoon and chicken teriyaki.. but everything I've ever tried is superb!

I have to say that this is probably one of few Chinese food restaurants that I recommend to anyone I know who will be in the area. I have had a lot of bad Chinese food over the years and have never had a single negative experience with the food or service at Chun Ping Lau! The staff are always polite and meals are prepared rather quickly. The prices are also very reasonable. My college roommate grew up in the area and first introduced me to their food. This is a restaurant that we come back to each and every time I visit her and her family. Their crab rangoons are the only ones I will eat--they are that good!

Our local Chinese restaurant for almost 10 years. Always very satisfied and they are very agreeable to our little special requests. I love their bone-in spare ribs. My wife always gets just what she wants by just asking for "chicken with mixed vegetables."

Let me begin by saying that having grown up in NYC, I have eaten from many Chinese take-out places. This is by far the worst one I have encountered. My sweet and sour chicken was actually sweet and sour flour. There was barely any chicken to be found. My husband's general tsos chicken was the same, with many of his pieces of "chicken" having no chicken whatsoever. I thought the egg rolls and rice were fine, my husband disagreed. Only good thing, they serve huge portions, which I ended up throwing in the garbage anyway. Don't waste your money here like we did.

Great food, location, value, and staff! I could not complain and I still remember how delicious my meal was. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, and it was an extremely fairly priced menu. Also, it is located in wonderful Kittery and we were able to make a stop to the other businesses around!

Our family decided to give this place a try. I must honestly say that this was probably the worse chinese food we have ever eaten, in fact we could not and the owner gave us most of our money back. The chicken a broccoli was horrible. The broccoli was soft and there was very little chicken. This was all in a soupy brown sause. The hunan chicken and the fried rice that we also ordered was simply not eatable. Extremely disappointing - A definite drive by.

My husband his friend and I went to Chunping Lau for the first time and I can honestly say we won't be back. We ordered the schezuan tofu chicken pad Thai kung pao chicken and the general tsao's. The lady taking our order was rude and pushy and embarrassed the lady before us by insisting she order something for her husband even though both the lady and her son clearly explained the father was out of the picture. Once we got home with our food we found that the Kung pao chicken was mostly celery and peanuts with maybe 1 or 2 pieces of actual chicken. The wings that came with it were flavorless and dry as was the fried rice. The tofu was watery and bland and not at all spicy like the lady said it would be. It was also supposed to come with rice which it did not. The general tsao's was watery as well and stuck together. We ordered this without rice or an egg roll and were still charged the combination price. The pad Thai smelled off and the chicken in it was dry. Overall the quality of the food was not very high and the price for what we ordered and actually recieved was atrocious. We will not be back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
