I strongly believe that the best fried seafood comes from shacks, trailers, dive bars, and other such places. My parents suggested this place to me stating matter-of-factly, "It's really good but not the cheapest. Portions are huge, and we liked it." Now my parents are picky about their fried seafood and like it done just so, and both of my parents regarded this place as some of the best they've ever had. My Dad compared it to the Causeway in Gloucester. I was sold. My partner and I ordered a pair of lobster rolls with one made into a basket with fries and coleslaw. The lobster roll was $13, which in DownEast Maine is regarded as "tourist prices." And frankly around Boston that is about what I'd pay for a lobster roll. The question one must ask is, "Is this a good lobster roll?" I'd have to answer with a, "Heck yeah it is." First, The roll is a standard toasted hotdog roll. Perfect. Nothing fancy something to merely carry the lobster meat to my mouth. The lobster is fresh, sweet, and mixed with just the right amount of mayo to hold it together. There is nothing in this lobster roll but lobster and mayo, as it should be. It fills the bun to straining and wrapping my mouth around the whole thing is difficult but I don't need to unhinge my jaw to do so. That is to say, it's full but not bursting. The fries were okay but nothing to write home about. After I got home my mother asked if I'd tried the homemade fries... Damn it, had I known I'd have tried them. The coleslaw was tangy and crisp. I checked out their facebook page and apparently they also serve some old school homemade styled desserts like custard pies, grapenut pudding, bread pudding and the like. Seriously, take my money and make me fatter. Overall we were very happy with our lobster rolls and will head back on another visit to Maine. I highly recommend that if you are in or around Jonesport, Maine you give this place a visit.
