I'm giving Ocean Garden Restaurant five stars because it is exactly what it should be. It's not known for innovative cuisine, american twists on ethnic dishes, re-imaginings of classics promulgated by Julia Child. It is a country-town restaurant and bar. Its specials always consist of several lobsters and steamed clams. It specializes in such fare. It offers a salad bar that often comes with any entree one chooses. Prices are inexpensive and the food is great. I've gone here with my mother and father and aunts and uncles on many occasions, usually one of their birthdays. It's fun and the waitresses are sweet, helpful and their sentences are always punctuated with 'honey!' or 'sweetheart!' If you find yourself in the neighborhood, stop in and enjoy the lobsters and steamers. And the down-country hospitality!

I'm not a big fan of lobster but if you are, this is the place to go. The food is cheap and good. I had their special honey baked haddock ($12) which included the soup/salad bar, choice of potato and vegetable. The baked haddock was good and the honey glazing was a nice touch. Their soup and salad bar was pretty basic but was a nice bonus to have with your meal. Their soup was cream of broccoli which was a bit salty for my taste but was still very good. I had a taste of the lobster which was fine. Service was good and the setting was pleasant like dining in someone's country living room.

Great place for lobster. I had twin lobsters and salad bar for $16! The lobster was excellent. The service was very good. The salad bar was pretty basic, but adequate. I will definitely go back.

Had the prime rib. Yummy.Yummy. what you get for the price is great.

Perfectly done lobster with just the simple fixings. Great place for a family meal - good simple food, no airs or pretenses and good value. Stick to the steamed lobster or steamers for the best experience IMHO.

If you want steamed lobsters, this is the place to go! My friend and I came here based on the recommendation of our inn keeper. We wanted steamed lobster (not the rolls) and he said this was the cheapest location, but with no ambiance. That was fine with us, so we headed down to the place and agreed that there wasn't much of a view. Just a pretty church and a parking lot. BUT the lobster was CHEAP. The specials were: One lobster - $13.99 Twin lobsters - $16.99 Three lobsters - $21.99 On top of that, you get unlimited salad bar and soup (which were both good)! WHAT A DEAL! Also, our server was very kind. She showed me how to crack my lobster without making me feel out of the loop. The crowd in the restaurant is a wee-bit older, but I think everywhere in Maine is like that (that, or our B&B host likes dining with the elderly). So if you're in the Gorham area and you want, like, nine lobsters (cause who doesn't?), then Ocean Garden is the place to go!

My husband and I ventured here after dropping our daughter off for her first semester at USM. Service was fabulous! Food was fantastic! Will definitely be back for Parents Weekend.

Kind of hard to describe. It's a world away from San Francisco. The deal can't be beat - 3 large lobsters, a big salad bar and soup for $24.99. It's a bit cray cray. The place is like Cracker Barrel, meets Ponderosa, and has a love child with Red Lobster, if Red Lobster were delicious. The place was cleaner than j expected and you get a total locals vibe. The lobsters were damn good. Overall, we were very pleased and got a slice of loca culture!

We were tired of Maine tourist traffic and the smart phone showed massive jams in downtown Portland. Yelp showed a 5 star place just 10 minutes west of our hotel. Perfect! This is where the locals eat-- no pretensions -- two lobsters with butter, fried clams and fabulous salad bar. Thanks for a perfect meal without looking for parking!

An excellent seafood restaurant w/ huge portions and personalized service. Plenty of choices for people who don't eat seafood. We've eaten here twice and both meals were outstanding and very reasonably priced.

Thanks to the other reviewers. What a very pleasant discovery for us. This is the place to have fresh tasty good-sized Maine lobsters. Warm friendly service. The soup and salad bar did not disappoint as well.

I can't speak to other items on the menu. I have frequented this restaurant quite a bit over a 14 year span and eaten one thing: the triple lobster special. Can't beat it. For $24.95 and salad and soup. Dear Lord! I really love this place and visit every time I come to Maine. Wonderful service and a comfortable environment to have lobster. Did I say three for $24.95? Yahoo.

This can be a 5 star or 1 star restaurant depending on what your goal is. If you're interested in ordering whole lobsters at a restaurant and do not care at all about atmosphere, water views, or basically anything else besides lobster, this is the best lobster restaurant I have ever been to. The triple lobster special (yes...THREE) each had to be at least 1 1/4 pounds, if not larger. The $24.99 price is just ridiculous. This is cheaper than the price of one smaller lobster anywhere in the Old Port. After finishing his triple, my friend from Mississippi was craving a fourth and the kitchen allowed me to add one to my twin lobster special after the fact. 5 minutes later, out comes his fourth. An average soup and salad bar is included in the meal price. How's everything else? Well, at lunch today the local nursing home was quite literally bussing in the residents. It felt like eating lunch in Cocoon. The interior is dated. The service was a little slow but the waitress had a big smile. I don't know who would order non-lobster here, so I can't comment on the rest of the menu. For whole lobsters at a restaurant I have never seen cheaper. So if that is the goal, Ocean Garden is a 5 star experience for locals or tourists.

I went here for dinner last night. From the reviews, I already knew the lobster was priced accordingly and it was a cozy environment. Well, I agree. The waitress was lovely - she greeted everyone like they were family even though she may not have known them. The salad was more iceberg lettuce than I would have liked but I understand restaurants offer this to keep cost low. I did not have the soup but I did have the warmed rolls which were standard. The cost for one lobster was $19.99 which I thought reasonable along with the salad bar. I ordered the NY Strip and Lobster which was more food than I expected and really inexpensive. The steak was juicy and the lobster sweet - a perfect combination. I would go here again if I'm back in the area.

For the money, this is a great family place, couples, singles and families are all here tonight.

Just ate here just a few hours ago. .please do yourself a favor and skip the tourists traps and go here...plug the address into your GPS or OnStar and travel about 7 miles outside the old port and you will get three HUGE lobster steaming hot...with soup and salad FOR $24...GO WHERE THE LOCALS GO. .Yep. .you read right 3 lobsters for what you pay for one in the city. .7 miles away

My wife found this gem on a TripAdvisor. So we are n Maine and it's lobster season and every restaurant in downtown Portland has at least 2 hour wait (Columbus Day weekend). So we drive for 20 minutes and get 3 lobsters and a salad bar for a VERY, VERY affordable price (not sure I can mention it here, as it changes daily). The only reason I've ordered a Triple dinner was because I thought that for that price lobsters would be tiny. I was wrong. 3 monsters were on my plate. Fellow yelpers, this is the place to go!

Not a bad place for in the middle of Maine somewhere! We came here for a rehearsal dinner. Do not expect anything fancy here! The waiter was not even sure about the wines that were on the menu. When we ordered she had to look at the menu to write it down. I had the scallops and they were delicious! I only eat seafood when in Maine because why wouldn't you! They had a salad bar that was nothing fancy but not stomach upsetting either! The soup was good as well! The dessert they served looked to be a biscuit short cake of sorts. It was okay but nothing special. Not that I think I will ever be in that area again but I would come back maybe....but I would probably just truck it down to Portland!

Pros: Decor was average, but pleasant. Wait staff very friendly. Salad bar included with meals and the salad items were fresh. Generous portions Cons: In two words, The Food. Mostly cooked from frozen product (From what I could tell, nothing was made in house). Wife's chicken tenders were overcooked and completely dry. Son's BBQ chicken sandwich was just so-so. The description of my meal sounded great: pan seared scallops and fillet mignon tips made with a teriyaki marinade. Scallops had ZERO sear (read: microwave?). If the steak was fillet mignon, then it was from the grizzle end of the cow and cooked to oblivion. The "marinade" was a canned thick goop that drowned whatever life the protein had left in it. It's sad because I had hopes of a decent meal from the reviews I read. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant's food apart from the salad bar.

When planning our trip to Portland, ME; I poured over many reviews of lobster restaurants; this wasn't even on the list of places I saw. However, my honey threw in the name of this restaurant during a discussion (2 days before our arrival in Maine) and we were NOT disappointed. When we heard of the special (3 lobsters w/AYCE soup and salad!) we were a bit leary, thinking that maybe we would be served a plate of crawfish instead of lobsters; we are glad that we were proved wrong! Each lobster was about 1.25#, and the corn chowder (soup du jour) was wonderful. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The location is easy to find and the parking ample. This will remain on our "list" whenever we visit Portland!

Good seafood and fried food at an affordable price. 10 bucks for a sandwich plus unlimited access to salad bread and the soup of the day. Definitely worth checking it out for lunch.

Decided to visit this location based on recommendations that I received. I called ahead to make sure they were open on Monday's, and so it happens, this was the first Monday that they are open because they are under new ownership. I also called ahead for pricing on lobster dinners, and unbelievably so, the triple lobster dinner was $21.99 plus tax. Yes, that is not a typo, $21.99!!! I would rate this 5 starts, IF, there were nice warm rolls offered with dinner, and if the lettuce was super fresh on the salad bar. There were no rolls, and the salad bar freshness was just ok. Lettuce was not super fresh, and there were some shriveled tomatoes. But for what I got for $21.99, I was very satisfied. Eve was my server - super friendly. It was nice to spring up a conversation as I travel for work all the time, and also was a former restaurant owner. I do wish this business owner success in the future, and hope that the lobster specials continue as I will certainly make this my regular lobster stop when I visit Portland Maine. So worth the 5 mile drive from the Portland Airport, and a much better value than the Old Port. If you are looking for waterfront and atmosphere, go to the Old Port and pay $50 for the same dinner. If you want lobster at a reasonable price, in a clean restaurant, then visit Ocean Garden.

Good, but not great.

Go for the dinner specials but don't expect much outside of that. Service was not great, salad bar is not good. mostly underripe vegetables. soup was good. our waitress was nice but we waited too long for someone to come over to us at first. They brought us the wrong appetizer so our real appetizer actually came after dinner. stuffed mushrooms were super salty and just not good.. Key lime pie was terrible. They are known for great dinner specials so stick with that. we got 3 lobsters for 25 and prime rib for 15. that was worth it

We were bored and riving around and stumbled on this place. It was packed which was an indicator that it was good but also the only real sit down option in Gorham. I have to say that the food was good. Maine comfort food. From Shepherd's Pie to Baked stuffed Haddock.. I had the stuffed haddock which was cooked fine and tasty.

When you're craving lobster on a budget, you probably won't find a better deal than the triple lobster dinner for $19.95 (as of this date) complete with unlimited soup, salad, and rolls. The service is friendly and attentive. The dining room is clean and able to accommodate both large and small groups. While there's nothing extraordinary or special about the food or atmosphere, chances are you'll leave happy and maybe even brag later to your friends about the deal you got on your lobster dinner.

If you like lobster at very reasonable prices ,Ocean Gardens is the place .Unlike hundreds of Maine restaurants on Rt1 or Portland that charge tourists big dollars for lobsters ,Ocean Gardens does not .A 20 min drive from Portland this restaurant has a big sign and is set back from the road .A bright cheery restaurant with a menu sign on the wall .Lobsters in 2010 where $21.95 for 3 $16.95 for 2 ,depending on availability I have gotten lobsters well over a pound .There is a free salad bar and soup pot ,nothing to write home about but will fill your hunger pangs while you wait for your lobster. With your lobster you get fresh soft rolls with butter .I usually take home one lobster in a doggy bag to make lobster rolls on another day .Ocean Gardens also has clam plates ,steamers ,fish dinners etc ,it is also frequented by seniors (who knows better than seniors what a good deal is?)So you have a choice ,pay $15-$21 for 1 lobster along Rt1 or along Commercial St or drive to Goreham and get 2 or 3 lobsters for the same price .I forgot to mention Ocean Gardens besides being a restaurant is a lobster pound .Good eating!
