Lobster is a must-eat when visiting Maine! :) This restaurant is in a super touristy/shopping-centery-y area, so expect the prices to be on the more expensive side. That being said, lobster isn't cheap, and they did give me a good sized portion of it in my lobster roll! If I was in the area again, I'd probably want to try more of a mom and pop place, but we were all hungry and this restaurant was right next to Banana Republic where we were shopping. It wasn't bad, but it seemed to cater more to tourists than to locals.

Solid lunch spot especially if you need a break from all the shopping in the area. setup here is simple. you go in, order food, get a pager and sit at a table. They have a nice patio area up front for eating and people watching, however it's outside so it may get very hot especially if your table isn't shaded. There is also plenty A/C tables inside and on the second floor. Food and beer is decent. I went with lobster roll which was well prepared and fresh. They also have tons of other foods mostly fried and a whole lobster which looked on point as I've noticed some people having it. Prices are reasonable here also. There are better choices whoever this places fits the bill. Once done head over to Frosty's for desert!

I first came to lobster cooker over 20 years ago and this is where I first fell in love with lobsters. The lobster bisque is amazing and the deals for the triple steamed lobster was great!

What happened to this place? I'm not sure when they renovated/changed the set up, but now I have to pay for table service and my soups still come in paper cups? How does this make sense? I miss the more casual version of this joint. The vibe was different, and I'm pretty sure the food was different. You used to be able to just go up to the counter, order the goods, and take a seat. Now you have to take a seat and seat subpar watery lobster bisque and clam chowder. Both soups had a layer of oil - not thick hearty fat - on top. They were super thin, barely coated the spoon, and were so watered down. Surprisingly had decent flavor, but a chowder should be a CHOWDER, not a broth like version of one. No more Lobster Cooker for us.

Went here to avoid chains fast food. Live music playing when we went. Ordered the bowl of clam chowder and a basket of clam strips with fries. Both were great. Chowder was thick and perfect for staving off the cold. Fries were thick cut and fantastic.

My husband and I were steered here by an LL Bean employee and were happy we took his advice. We ordered the triple lobster meal for $24.99 (seriously...THREE lobsters) which came with French fries and coleslaw. The lobsters were perfectly cooked and delicious. I would definitely eat here again.

We have been here a couple of times. The food is always fresh, fast and hot. The outside dining is the best, you can enjoy the sounds and sights of Freeport while eating great seafood.

Easy to dismiss as a cafeteria cheapo type place at first glance, Lobster Cooker is surprisingly good and reasonably priced for a tourist joint. They recently added table service, which I am mixed on. I had been happy enough ordering at the counter The lobster roll is good but naked. Meat is nice and fresh. I like this because nothing is worse then a mayo smothered butter smothered lobster roll! You add your own butter and mayo to it. I am also a fan of the haddock sandwich which nets you a giant piece of fish lightly breaded on a bun. Ask about the market prices before ordering though!

Great location for kids, lobster bisque is amazing and the lobster roll is quite decent (although naked). We will definitely come here again next time we go to LL Bean!

Just reopen and really good. The fries are to die for!!! The veggie burger is good and the clam chowder is yummy. My friend had the crab cakes and they were just ok. They went back to ordering your food at the counter and you pick it up, which is great. Overall, I'm so happy they're back and I will go back!

This is a busy Freeport eatery. The food wasn't that bad but the prices were unfavorable. I guess I should have expectedd that from a tourist town. I was disappointed when I ordered the $12 Meditterranean salad (which was pretty good BTW) with lobster add on. Now, I know it was my fault because I disn't check to see what the market price was, but $14 to add lobster to a salad. So that made it a $26 salad. I don't think I ever had a salad that expensive! it was good but not $26 good! Ugh

We stopped by the Lobster Cooker for lunch this past weekend. It was pretty expensive for a little old haddock sandwich & crabcake sandwich at $22 but it didn't seem to put people off as it was packed. Everything there is cooked to order and is very fresh & tasty. Apparently they are famous for their clam chowder which I wish I knew before I ordered my sandwich. Beer & wine are also served which is a thumbs up in my book! Very cute patio area right on Main St also which makes for good people watching while eating.

The five stars is for the Lobster Bisque. I can't speak to anything else on the menu because that is all I've had, and likely to remain the only thing I'll ever get. After all, why get anything else??? I would venture to say, the bisque is in the top 5 soups I've ever had in the world. The Lobster Bisque has a perfect blend of sweetness, creaminess, thickness, chunkiness (I hate a bisque w/o chunks of lobster! What's the point eh?) and splash of sherry. In fact I rerouted a vacation through Maine that was supposed to be a big loop so that I could travel back through Freeport to get the bisque again. It's not the cheapest place to eat, but I think the bisque might justify the airfare. I'm not sure exactly how you could ship a dairy-based bisque, but I wish they shipped. The ambiance is casual, touristy coastal Maine. What do you expect? Not a place for a romantic date, but perfect place to grab lunch when you're shopping or pick up some food to go before a picnic or on the way home. Bottom Line: Lobster Cooker lobster bisque + a crusty bread = heaven.

Unimpressive. There wasn't anything wrong with the lobster rolls --- but this place benefits considerably from the L.L. Bean and outlet store crowd. I'm not sure it would do the same amount of business in a more local crowd.

The soup was good but the lobster salad was grossly below expectations. It was overpriced for that small amount.

I agree. 5 stars for the lobster bisque. Best bisque that we had from Bar Harbor down to Kittery. Staff was nice. Lobster roll was very good.

I struggled with a final decision here. The mussels were extremely tempting but the employee recommended the haddock sandwich. I went with the haddock sandwich, which I wouldn't get again and the lobster bisque, which I wish I could have right now. So get the lobster bisque. It's delish. And go with your gut.

I'd say Lobster Cooker had the least substantial lobster roll I had on my short trip. The lobster isn't dressed at all, and I feel like there could have been more lobster on the bun. Nonetheless, the lobster was refreshing, and their [small] beer selection also did the trick. Friendly folks.

Worst lobster roll I have ever had. Skimpy portion of lobster meat on a hot dog bun that comes from a bag. Hardly qualifies as a lobster roll. This is a good place to take the kids for lunch on a shopping trip but don't waste your money on the lobster.

I've taken far too many trips to Freeport and back over the past few weeks, and have had a tough time finding a place I truly enjoy eating. I have no problem in Portland with finding a yummy place to eat, but everywhere I've been in Freeport has been..iffy. There is one, and ONLY one reason I would return to the Lobster Cooker. It is their lobster bisque. Its just thick enough and salty enough with that sweet note of lobster/sherry goodness. And it comes with tons of lobster pieces in it! It was delicious and I wish I didn't have to drive 3 hours for it because that would be the best winter soup. So, other than their amazing lobster bisque, their other lobster items seemed overpriced (which I guess I get, it being a tourist trap and all) and totally under flavored. Their lobster roll arrives as just that. Lobster on a roll. No nothing to combine it all together, or compliment the lobster flavor. Good thing I guess, because the lobster in the roll had NO flavor. It was clearly frozen and thawed super quickly and it was just a mess. I mean, we even had to add salt. To lobster! It should be salty/yummy/briney on its own when its fresh from the waters. Their fries are also in need of work. While they have that nice potato-y flavor that many fries lack, these were greasy and turned limp fast. So my advice if you go to the lobster cooker - get one bowl of lobster bisque and that is it. Nothing else, and then you will have a nice lunch.

This was just a nice little place. We were in the area hitting all the shops and they are right on the main street. I went with the lobster roll which was simple but tasty. They did not do anything fancy just get some good quality lobster onto a hot dog roll. I also had the lobster bisque which had a great flavor but could have used a few more pieces of lobster. Others in the group I was with had the broiled lobster which were clearly fresh right out of the tank. Overall a good stop for some nice lobster while hitting the shops.

We ate at the Lobster Cooker last week and were very pleased. Our server was very attentive and their food was good and plentiful. We both had fish and chips. We also split a blueberry cobbler which was also good. We would definitely eat there again.

Ohhhh, Lobster Bisque! I miss their Lobster Bisque! I miss it soooo much! I first got to know this place from Chowder Challenge in Freeport, and also read a review somewhere I think. They won the Chowder Challenge many times, so yes their Clam Chowder is good. But after I tried many different kinds in Chowder challenge, I'd say alot of clam chowder from restaurants in Maine are all very good, very hard to decide which is better. In other words, if you are in Maine and have a restaurant serves good Chowder in the neighbor, I'd say just go there. But for Lobster Bisque, I'm sure this is the best place! I became big fan for Lobster Bisque and tired in many different places, but I always came back to this place. When it's freezing outside like 10 degrees, it's indiscribable feeling to have this warm creamy delicious Bisque in your mouth then down to throat... Ahhh I miss that so much! This place is famous for Chowder and Lobster Sandwich, but it's actually not a restaurant, more like a fast food joint. So if you want to have some nice food, drink with music, you gotta find somewhere else. If you got tired of shopping at Freeport and need a place to rest your leg and grab some good food quick, then this place is the must! Can someone send me the bisque to California...?

A little pricey, but it totally hit the spot! While waiting for my friend's skis to have their bindings attached we grabbed lunch here, mainly because it had "Lobster" in its name! We certainly weren't disappointed! The guy who took our order was very helpful and very nice about explaining the difference in "lobster roll" and "lobster salad roll." I was pleasantly surprised and happy to find that they had these two options, and that one of them didn't have any mayo. Yup just pure claw meat in a bun! That's the perfect lobster roll to me! It's nothing fancy, and like I said a little pricey. But completely worth it, and a great little lunch spot to take a break from your shopping.

I've been driving to Freeport once a year for ten years and I've always parked in the same place: the back of the lot behind the Gap Outlet. Every year as I've walked from the parking lot to Main Street, I've passed the Lobster Cooker. It looked like a nice place to hang out and have some dinner. There's a pleasant-looking patio with a view of the street, a small seat-yourself dining room, cute little wholesome Maine high school students behind the counter. It all seemed very no-frills New England and quite comforting. I'd always wanted to give the Lobster Cooker a try but I'd never got around to it. This evening, I finally gave it a shot. Yes, there was the guitarist on the patio, doing some covers of Elton John and Willie Nelson. There were the tables and the umbrellas and the bustle of Main Street and the wholesome kids behind the counter. But I was really there for the food and somehow--don't ask me how--I spent $14.95 for two very small and tasteless crab cakes, a handful of sodden French fries and a Coca Cola. The best I can say about the Lobster Cooker is that the Coke had lots of bubbles.

This review is solely for their lobster bisque. This place is my golden standard for lobster bisque. Every spoonful is chocked full with fresh yummy lobster bits. It is Maine after all and lobster is a plenty. Some people seems to be disappointed by other items from their menu, my advice is to stick to the lobster items. The pureed crustacean soup is quite buttery, the addition of the lobster chunks would just explode then slathered your taste buds!!!! Hmmmm ...

We got up to Freeport & this is the first restaurant we saw, so we went here. It was lousy. I had the Fish n' Chips & I agree with the other reviewer - lousy fish. Fries were OK. The rest of my party liked their meals. All this place is is a fried seafood place. Keep walking - there's a cute restaurant on a side street that is good (forget the name) and Azure on the main street is also good.

WAY over priced!!! This is a tourist trap. I ordered the "special" shrimp salad for $9 and it was a cup of bag salad with a few tiny, overcooked shrimp. Defiantly try something else.

Had the cooked lobster & fries. Very good. I liked that it was freshly cooked & arrived steaming without drowning in any butter. Husband had the lobster cakes & chowder. He really enjoyed it. Also, it's lobster so of course it cost more but I thought the prices were fair.

Great little place right off the side of Main St in the middle of Freeport Village. I looked this up on the web, and I think it used to be called Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster. The place was great, we had the Haddock and Chips. The fish was very nicely breaded and very tasty. The house dressing is great and so is the tartar sauce. It's a cute atmosphere and apparently most weekends they have entertainment right on the patio. An acoustic guitar player playing quite a few soft rock pieces.

This restaurant is located on the main drag in Freeport and that is the only thing it has to offer. It is pricy. Most of the food is fried and is cooked in oil that is burnt and not strained. My husband's French Fries smelled like fish. His fish and fries were overcooked. My lobster roll was good but was very expensive compared to other restaurants in this city. Avoid this one. It was a struggle to give it even one star.

They close at 8pm, I got there at 7pm and the already ran out of lobster. So I ordered the last of their Fish 'n Chips. The Fish (Haddock) 'n Chips was lousy. The breading was bland and the fish was fishy. I also ordered the clam chowder which had a decent amount of clams but a bit too much potatoes for my taste. For the price, this place was a disappointment.

Great Lobster Roll, really excellent lobster bisque. relatively quick service. Nice Patio as well as indoor space.

Best fried clams ever! Lobster roll was good, mostly lobster and hardly any mayo. We had a lobster roll for two with fried clams for $32. It was just the right amount to go next door and get a scoop of Ben and Jerry's to top it off.

I admit. I made a mistake eating here. HOW can a restaurant screw up lobster when they are ONE mile from the Atlantic Ocean in Maine???? Seriously? As others have noted this is a true tourist trap. The "ambiance" is basically McDonald's ... paper plates and beverage cups, a walk-up counter with some bored employees and a cafeteria style dining room. Yeah I know, lobster isn't cheap, but regardless of price I have had some lobster meals that I can't stop drooling over. What I got at the Lobster Cooker was equivalent to comparing a Big Mac to a Filet Mignon. It was dry, flavorless (how is that possible?) and extremely dull. I have had lobster in ridiculously fancy restaurants and also in beach side bars where they pull the basket out of the water when you order, throw it in water for a few minutes and throw it on your plate (the best lobster of my life). So I repeat, how can Lobster Cooker screw it up? If you're shopping in Freeport (which I didn't find to be anything special) and feel the urge to have a Maine lobster ... don't waste your money here!
