One of my other first-choice places for lunch in Freeport. Not a great ambience, with Bean shoppers walking about, but the outdoor seating makes for great people-watching. And there's the fish tank for fun while you wait! No, not like the fish tank in the dentist's office, more like the ones you see at the Boston Aquarium :). Bring the kids so they can watch trout and salmon through the bubble. IF you can find a seat inside, order up one of the delicious sandwiches or salads. Wonderful flavor combinations. And they have gluten-free bread available that isn't store brand - excellent bonus! Open year-round.

This is a place located in the LL Bean flagship store. It's adorable-- has a great little interior and a lot of outdoor seating. The haddock chowder was the best chowder (sorry, clams) I've ever had in my life. We tried it on the way up to Acadia. Loved it so much, that on the way back home from Acadia a few days later, we made sure to stop here again and get the chowder!!! The pickles are really good, super sweet. I am now on a quest to find pickles like that. Picklesssssssssss! Definitely try this place out!

Looking for a healthy meal? This is your place. Fresh salads are great. We tried the mediterranean and muts/berries, both with turkey. Delicious!

Root beer on tap and decent sandwich selection. Free wifi, too. It's a good place to stop if you're hungry and don't want to leave L.L. Bean just yet...

Love most everything about this place! It's located right in between the hunting & fishing section of the L.L.Bean store & the main part of the store. The decor really fits into the rest of the store with the wooden tables and chairs and a giant moose head. There's plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice and enough indoor seating for the off-season as well. In terms of the food, there isn't too large of a selection, but there is something for everyone since they do have vegetarian & gluten-free options. They also serve breakfast, so it's a really great location to go to before or after you go explore the rest of the L.L.Bean store. The prices are a little on the higher side, but I really loved the quality and taste of the food that I got. The chowder is DELICIOUS, and I highly recommend that you try it :)

This is the little cafe area inside the L.L. Bean flagship store between hunting and fishing department and the returns/exchanges/customer service area and the adventure + discovery center. This cafe serves breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. Think bagel sandwiches, oatmeals, scones, yogurt for breakfast and soup/salad, two hot sandwich options, a number of tasty sounding wraps, cheese and crackers, and hummus all other times. They even have a small children's section of the menu. Each time I'm at Bean I stop here for a beverage - either a coffee, homebrewed iced tea, lemonade, etc. The case of sweets and various homemade goodies individually wrapped are always calling my name. Last week I had a whoopie pie here that wasn't very tasty, but I've had other treats in the past that were quite good. It's too bad because it sounded like a nice local Maine lady made the whoopie pie (pro tip: for the best whoopie pies in all the land drive 20mins to Two Fat Cats Bakery in Portland. You can thank me later.) Most surprising of all, the oven baked sandwiches were absolutely delicious. I brought a friend over the summer and I had the Black Watch, she had the Mainely Cuban. We agreed that both were excellent and made me excited to try other menu items. Also, the cafe claims to use "all natural" ingredients, meats sliced in house and preservative and nitrite free, and preservative free cheeses, etc. Their flatware, cups and packaging are all 100% biodegradable or compostable, and their furniture is made of reclaimed wood. I'm a fan!

This is a nice little cafe inside of LL Bean. Everything is fresh and local. I've had pretty good experiences there in the past, with a delicious roast beef wrap. My most recent experience left much to be desired, but for the most part they've been great. When I just ordered straight from the menu, I had no problems, but this last time I ordered a sandwich with the cheese left off. The waitress brought our orders to the table, and remembered that I asked for no cheese when she got to the table. She gave everyone their lunch and took my sandwich away to have it made again. By the time I got my sandwich back, everyone else was almost done with their meals. I'm hoping this was a one-off experience, but it's worth noting. So it's worth stopping in for a fresh bite, but don't bother with any special orders.

Lots to love about this place. All freshly made, all delicious and inventive. Unless you're used to fast food sandwiches, which aren't necessarily fresh, freshly made by hand, and/or produced organically, chances are you'll love it. Two sandwiches and two bags of chips will run you $22, which isn't bad for this sort of fare. The pickles are glorious, the sandwiches are delicious (particularly the Allagash veggie meatloaf), and the staff is super friendly. The surroundings are filled with LL Bean ephemera and tokens from the past, and you feel like you're eating in a log cabin. It's attached to the Main Bean Store and is worth stopping in even if you're not going to the store itself, which we often do on a trip to a picnic in Wolfe's Neck. We've had varied luck in Freeport, but this place is - and always has been - a winner. Also worth mentioning is the burrito cart in the Bean parking lot across the street from Ben and Jerry's. Just past that is the Gorgeous Gelato cart, also of the same caliber.

My husband and I were in Freeport on our way back to MA after the UMaine commencement and decided to try LL Bean's 1912 Cafe for lunch since we were just looking for quick, light fare (we wanted to save room for goodies from other places). My husband and I paid $23-ish for 2 sandwiches and 2 small waters. I ordered the Dirigo without onions (ham, brie, spring mix, raisins, Dijon mustard, golden raisins - usually has red onions too) and my husband ordered the Hen & Jenny (Mediterranean - type sandwich... kalamata olives, goat cheese, lemon basil pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, some other stuff); both came on a whole wheat wrap. The quality of the sandwiches were about average. My husband loved the flavor combination of what he ordered, but at the end of the day it was really just a wrap. My sandwich was also decent, as I ordered, but again - it wasn't more than average. Good amount of mustard, but kind of sparing on the raisins and average amount of spring mix, ham, and brie. The reason that I am giving 1912 a 2 and not a 3 for average is that I was disappointed the value. At most sandwich shops, if you're going to pay $8 + tax for an average sandwich you get a good-sized pickle and/or a handful of potato chips. 1912 Cafe states on their menu that their sandwiches are served with a house pickle (no chips). When I read that, I assumed that we would get a good-sized pickle spear or something equivalent. On the contrary; our sandwiches were served with one slice of pickle. Sure, it was big for a slice, but nowhere near the size of a spear served at most sandwich shops. They also served soup that I sampled a spoon of each to decide if I wanted that, but their "cup" and "bowl" were smaller than what you'd get at a good privately-owned cafe or even a Panera Bread of Fresh City. I would have been hungry 5 minutes later. 1912 Cafe also does not offer an option to get a half-soup/half-sandwich, which most cafes do offer these days. On the whole, the 1912 Cafe is not a good value for what you're paying. The next time I am in Freeport I will very likely buy my lunch elsewhere.

Yelp did not accept my edit to add vegan and vegetarian to the description if this café/restaurant. They label and advertise vegan items on their counter, menu, and in talking. The food was great and they were very accommodating to modifications for their vegan customers.

We always grab lunch here anytime we're at Beans, they have great daily specials including sandwiches and soups, all made from fresh local ingredients when possible. Everything always tastes fresh and the service is really good too. We love the patio seating to watch people come and go by the giant Beans boot at the flagship store! Also a great view of the park and any daily activities going on there. Yum! There is something for everyone and we even get gifts for people from their little gift shop: mugs, tea, pickles, etc.

On our way in to LL BEAN we stopped in 1912 for lunch. The pastrami sand which was yummy and the hummus was top notch and very good quality. I also had the potato leek soup but that definitely fell flat.

doesn't take me long to find what i need at Bean, so i hang here while all still shopping. with coffee and a peanut butter bar, usually. banana-nut bread too.

This is a great place for a good quality lunch when you're shopping. The staff is very nice, the menu is short and some of it is odd, but the flavors all work really well. I have taken a few risks here and just ordered something that I had no clue what it was and it turned out to be great. They also have a great kids menu for those less adventurous.

I typically never buy food in large store cafes, but needed a quick snack before heading hiking and was already in the LL Bean store. I was very pleased to see that they had a few vegetarian/vegan options on the menu - including some accidentally vegan desserts. There were a couple hummus sandwich/platter options and oatmeal but I went with the roasted red pepper meatless loaf sandwich (no cheese!) on gluten-free bread. Yum. I think it would have benefited from more sauce but I was so happy to find an interesting veggie option and was pleased they also had gluten-free bread. The prices were a little on the high side for what you get, but I suppose that's to be expected in most large stores.
