If you're looking for the perfect Thai food. This Is the garunteed place to go! When you enter the area. You are instantly greeted with great flora. With waiting chairs(which you won't need. The waiters are super-speed!). Aquariums. And a menu before you even get in the waiting room! First comes the appetizer. Which happens after you meet the funny & friendly staff. I ordered the butterfly dumplings and corn fritters. Basically it was all Perfect! Plus. the dip was great! It was light and juicy. Then came THE meal. A big. Juicy meal of noodles and a bowl of rice. Both of which were fascinating. And I was so happy by the place I suggested it to my friends! Well. Go here! Stay awhile!

I stopped into this little place tucked away in Falmouth by myself as my family was out of town and I had just gotten done with a full day of work and I was super surprised with how much I liked this place. Ambiance can be both a sit down dinner type of place and also can be a nice romantic place to take that special someone for a date. The back wall of the dining area is a lit wall of water and the kitchen is open for people to see what is going on but not right on top of the guests trying to eat and chat. I started off with the steamed dumplings that were covered with a coconut sauce that was to die for. The dumplings were not too chewy and were light and refreshing and wanted 6-7 more after I got done with the first batch. The coconut sauce drizzled over the top was not too sweet but added some depth to the dumplings. I then dove into the chicken pad thai and it was amazing. The presentation was superb and the dish itself was a healthy portion for the price and it was fresh and delicious. Literally some of the best pad thai that I have had in the Portland area and I have tried it many places. The service was prompt never letting my glass of water get down to the halfway point and my beer was refilled quickly also. If you are looking for a place outside of the hustle and bustle of Portland or dont want to be crowded by the hipsters, then drive small skip over to Falmouth and try this place, I think you will like it.

As far as I am concerned, this is the best Thai food in the area. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. I have been here several times for dine-in and also for take-out. It was first recommended to me by a friend but since it wasn't downtown Portland, I kind of forgot about it for while. I wish I hadn't! As soon as I want and saw "pumpkin curry" on the menu, I was sold. (BTW, it is delicious and I highly recommend it!) I have had several noodle dishes and curries that have all been great and their mango sticky rice dessert is awesome! As a vegan, I was happy to see that they can substitute any of their sauces for a vegetarian sauce, instead of a sauce with fish in it. They also offer gluten-free soy sauce upon request. They offer many dishes with tofu or vegetables and her always seemed happy to answer question for me about ingredients if I have any. As far as take-out goes, the wait is never very long and the staff is very pleasant on the phone. This is definitely a go-to spot for us on take-out night. The ONLY thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is this: twice, I have been here for dinner and have stayed for awhile chatting with friends (total dinner and chatting time of about 2 hours or so). The staff has always said it was fine and there were never people waiting for tables (nor was it almost closing time). But the staff were cleaning the floors around us repeatedly and even filling the salt and pepper shakers on our tables while we were sitting there (while saying to us that they were in no hurry and that we could stay as long as we wanted-- mixed signals!). I just found this uncomfortable. If it had happened once, I still would have given this place 5 stars and chalked it up to a full moon or something, but it did happen twice. Overall, don't miss this place. The food is awesome!!

I have to comment on the latest post of Orchid Thai for bad service and not kid friendly. I bring my kids there all the time and have always received nothing but the best service. The staff is beyond kid friendly. Yes some kids are a little more than what your server wants to deal with, but lets face it, they are not your baby sitters, they need to pick up after your kids from making a mess, and frankly your kids should not be brought to anything more than a McDonald's if they act up. I again will say that the Orchid Thai is the best thing to hit Falmouth and Cumberland County for that matters.

This place has the BEST Thai food I have ever had. Wow. Went with my husband and a friend on a Thursday night. Place was pretty busy around 7:30. Very very clean. The staff was friendly. The atmosphere and decorating is very pleasing. I did have a reservation, just in case. I ordered the Chicken Larb salad, and it was awesome. For an appetizer I ordered the dumplings with the coconut. Simply wonderful! My husband and friend ordered the Beef Pad Thai and they loved it. Since I have a second home in Freeport, and just discovered this place, I will most certainly be back. Secretly, I wanted to return the next night I was up there! Excellent food, atmosphere, highly recommend!

Probably one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Whenever I am home in Maine, I ALWAYS have it on my list to come here. Not only do they have a great selection (tons of stuff for vegans/vegetarians), but the food is great. You can tell they really take pride in their food just by the quality of the product. Lastly, the staff has always been extremely pleasant whenever I have been here. I try not to give five-star reviews lightly, so I promise you that this restaurant deserves all of them. If you are in the area and looking for a place to eat, I HIGHLY recommend Orchid Thai.

After more than a dozen visits, I can say that we have never had less than a great meal here. It is the among the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to anywhere. The service is excellent and very responsive. Whether it is putting together the protein, sauce, and vegetable from the list or choosing one of their entrees, it's hard to go wrong, and easy to find what ever you feel like eating that night. The kids love the fruity fried rice and the cashew chicken remains a favorite.

We have frequented many of Portland's Thai choices. My husband is a very particular, and finicky, eater, so I'm always a little nervous about what some place new will bring. It was very busy when we arrived on 12/26, but we were seated right away. The waitstaff seem to be working as more of a collaborative team, than one specific person to each table. This works in the customer's favor, as you are very well taken care of, and can ask anyone for anything you may need, as opposed to waiting for "your server". It did take quite a long time for our appetizer, the steamed butterfiles, to arrive, but we were checked on, and apologized to by waitstaff, and management, alike. We were in no rush so it was not a problem. When they arrived, they were well worth the wait, and absolutely delicious. Our entrees, Pad see - ewe with chicken for my husband, and the Drunken Noodle with chicken for me, came out quickly. They were hot, and fresh. One of the best parts about my meal were the vegetables that were done just right. They were cooked, but crisp. Portions were large, with enough to take home. My husband had nothing but good things to say, which is incredible. We cannot wait to return.

Wow! Best service yet! I just moved back to Maine in January. I have yet to eat a restaurant with a staff like this one. My water glass was never under half full! Wow again! Best pad Thai I've since moving back too. We had it with the scallops. Outstanding.

Very expensive food. I ordered take out and they forgot to add some food to our order even though we had verified what we ordered. This is not the first time this has happened. I'm not giving this place 1 star is because the food is very mediocre, it was actually really good, its the way we were served. I get that its fancy and its no surprise the food is expensive but my god these prices were so high i dont think i will be back. If only we knew we were missing some food for the crew, i should have just ordered at wendys.

My experience here is different every time I go. I Want to love the food but here is why I do and do not. My first time in they "over Heated" my dish so badly that I could not eat it and they did not charge me. About a year later I decided to try it again next at a friends recommendation. I had the green curry with shrimp and a mango salad which went perfectly together. It was perfect and left me wanting more. Next I tried beef panang Thai Thai. I was so excited when I took my first bite because it was deliciously flavored just like my favorite restaurant in Portland that does not do take out. I like to take out. However, after my first bite I realized the beef was not tender at all, as it should be and hoped my next bite would be. It was not. It was so chewy I was so disappointed but ate it anyway because the sauce was delicious. That was too bad for a meal I paid 18.oo to take out. I will go there again but never order a meat dish if that is the way they serve it. Quality counts for me.

+1 = friendly staff +1 = superfast food turnaround (we ordered to-go) +1 = nice ambiance +1 = easy parking, and convenient location for whenever we're passing through the area -1 = the curries were too watery, the tofu was too chewy, and I wasn't crazy ab

We went here for a Friday night dinner when we were visiting Maine last week. The service and food was awesome. We tend to eat Thai food frequently at a highly rated restaurant back home. My 20 year old daughter, who eats Thai at least twice weekly, stated that it was the best Thai food she has had. I agree. I had the lobster/spring roll summer special, my wife had veggie fried rice, my daughter had yellow curry, her friend had a noodle bowl; we all were very happy with our choices.
(5)Vishal R.
Been going here for three years. After traveling here constantly from a much bigger city, it was a tough to find a decent Thai restaurant. This is hands down the best "traditionally" based Thai food in the greater Portland area. There are a couple good places on Portland, but they are more Asian fusion, than traditional. Good food and service. Watch the spice level! There are not shy, a good thing for me.

Reader Digest Version: This is a must stop place for Thai cuisine fans. Long Version: I had noticed this place by driving by once. Then today we wanted to have Thai for lunch. SO we drove to a place in Westbrook that we had wanted to try. Low and behold, even though it advertises being open on Saturday, closed again. So we decided to make the short drive to Thai Orchid and quite frankly it was probably the better option. The atmosphere is wonderful. Whoever designed the layout and decorating is a genius. There is a nice dining area and a nice lounge/bar area. Everything seems fairly newly renovated. The bathrooms were immaculate. Everything is well decorated to the point you want to start making offers on buying stuff. No matter that, lets be honest, for great thai food I would eat in a back alley dank hole in the wall as long as the Pad Thai is good. Truth be told Ihave been dining at Thai places for a decade now, but up until a year ago i never bothered with Pad Thai. Now it is a must have. We ordered the Chicken Satay and Crab Rangoon to start. Honestly i will say a har over priced. The Crab Rangoon has real crab meat in it and you can tell. But again while being honest I like the knock Chinese ones that are sweeter. But the dipping sauce with them combined was really great. Chicken Satay was on par, a little less than we were expecting for the price. Considering the price of the apps, you would think the rest of the menu was a tad high. Nope. The Pad Thai was on spot with some of the best places we have been. But while it was on par on price, it was way above average on taste. The regular pad thai was great and the crispy pad thai was possibly one of the best I have ever had. I do not know what Rob D is talking about. Maybe he came in on a bad night, or maybe he is a vindictive ex of one of the teenage hostesses (which we could not find). This will be our go to place for at least Pad Thai.

This place has by far the best Thai food in Maine. Staff is super friendly and responsive. Highly recommend. Also, Andes mints with the bill = clutch.
(5)Rob D.
Vastly overpriced for really mediocre food. I guess the people of Falmouth don't get out much. Dumplings were glopish dough, entrees lacked in interesting Thai spices, etc. I think this place is a watering hole, with food offerings being a second thought. The teenage girls who answer the phone and greet you at the cash register are aloof, indifferent, think they're princesses, and are downright clueless. There won't be a next time.
(2)John S.
Very nice menu, good service and high quality food. A great addition to Falmouth! At first the menu seems daunting but it is well laid out and makes good sense.

This place is a hidden gem. Loved the food, drinks, staff and atmosphere. You've got to check it out. Trust me.

Today our first visit (Wife's birthday). We have enjoyed Thai food for 30+ years on two continents, trying dozens of restaurants. This is among the best. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. First, he brought two small salads, which we didn't expect. The flavorful salad dressing set the stage and expectations. Next, the Tom Kha Gai was very good, and the hot Thai hot wings were excellent. But the Larb Gai was a home run. It was beautifully spiced, served with fresh baby lettuce, which is used to wrap the Larb Gai into wonderful little finger food. It was the very best I've ever had, and my wife agreed. Presentations were simple but elegant. Can't wait to go back.

We had lunch at the Orchid Thai on Dec 6, 2014. The food was the best Thai that I've ever had (even down to the salad dressing on the salads). It's fresh, tasty and you can have it as spicy or not as you want. The restaurant is clean, decor is modern and service is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant. I just wish that I didn't live so far from it!

We were looking for a place to have dinner, saw the sign, and entered. Ambience was lovely, as others have described--we especially liked the beautiful light fixtures and the windowsill orchid plants. The Sesame Beef-$15 and the Pad Thai-$13 were delicious. Fantastic service. Full bar. Generous portions (we took half home for another meal) + moderate prices = Great Value. Each plate was decorated with a beautiful Orchid Blossom! This is our all-time favorite Thai restaurant.
(5)Al N.
Orchid Thai has delicious food and food service, but it is a little too expensive. The wings are a hit with the kids and adults alike. Fried rice and drunken noodles are also dishes that this restaurant does well. They can adjust spiciness as well, which is nice. We have gone here twice now, and would recommend it if you don't mind paying a bit more.
(4)Linda M.
We had dinner there for the 1st time & were quite happy. My ginger fish was very good & my husband was pleased with his spicy pad thai. However it would have bothered me a tad that his pad thai noodles appeared to be cut. He found the shrimp very good. Atmosphere was exceptionally nice & service was good We will return. We took a look at the bar - impressive.

My first impressions of Orchid Thai came from a takeout meal last night. The space was contemporary and upscale and I'm sure appealed to the moneyed Falmouth bourgeoisie. The restaurant has a sleek bar with a distinct big city vibe in a seperate room and the dining room felt spacious with soaring ceilings. The joint was jumpin' at 5:30 when I stopped to pick up my dinner. I ordered crispy pad thai. I enjoyed the textural whimsy of the fried rice stick noodles, but the dish was light on other traditional pad thai items, especially chicken. A green salad was accompanied by a ginger dressing. Veggies were fresh and the dressing was mayo based with loads of ginger. It was quite tasty. The final item ordered was the General Tso's chicken. WEIRD! I've eaten this dish countless times, but would never have guessed this was GT'sC. Pieces of chicken breast were deep fried and sauced with what seemed a combo of catsup and Franks Red Hot sauce and perched on steamed broccoli and sugar snap peas. The sauce was bizarre and not very appealing. They forgot to include rice with our order. And the $15 price indicates they are catering to an upscale crowd. Fail. I will return for a proper sit down in a month or so when they get the kinks worked out.

Just returned from our family dinner at Pom's new restaurant: Orchid Thai. The decor is fancy, so are the plates and silverware. The service was good: waitresses were attentive and kept refilling our tea, they also made sure that all all of our special requests for replacements were well attended to. I am not a novice Thai-food eater and eat Thai every other week - all over New England. This place is by far one of the best and although not inexpensive: I am fine with paying little extra to get a great food. We ordered Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Spicy Eggplant dishes. Also, my father found very healthy Vegie health section with steamed vegetables & tofu options. Plentiful amount of seafood in all dishes: much more than you will get anywhere around. So at the end great value for money in terms of both size and quality. I am glad to have found the new shinning Thai star in the area.

An absolutely amazing experience! Our first time here and we had not heard of this place before so we took our chances. Service was exceptional and food was delicious. A must eat!

We dined on a Monday night and it was moderately busy. They had been open 12 days. The atmosphere was delightful. Colors were pleasing and the sound level was perfect. You could easily carry on a conversation at a normal voice level. Steamed butterflies were fantastic! Also had the vegetable dumplings and enjoyed them too. Ordered my favorite Pad Thai and it was perfect. Noodles were firm and flavors blended nicely, mildly spicy and a healthy portion. It was piping hot when served. My wife and mother-in-law had a delightful chicken dish and the veggies in it were firm but not overly crunchy. The sauce was very, very tasty and the chicken was nice and tender. I love that the bar has draft beer! Great place and we look forward to many meals here!
(5)Jessica Y.
Pom's yummy Thai food elevated to a fine dining experience. Elegant decor and service. Food beautifully presented. There is a separate bar area on the far side. Very pretty, cozy, and private. Love it.

I got takeout for lunch. The first issue was that a man entered the restaurant ahead of me , returning my take out meal ! He picked his meal up and the staff handed this returned meal to me without any apology. ( I could see it hadn't been opened but !) I ordered pan fried veggie dumplings. They looked odd, like flattened baseballs. The filling was deep green and nicely flavored, but no thicker than a few sheets of paper. What made the dumplings inedible was the thick, white, gooey, seemingly not fully cooked "dumpling". Ugh. I also had pad Thai chicken . The noodles, sauce, sprouts were fine but the plentiful chicken was so dry and tough (over cooked) that I ate only a few bites. I tried to chew other pieces but they were too dry to swallow. I was very hopeful that this restaurant would be a positive addition to the area, but the poor quality and higher prices here will send me back to Portland for my Thai food
