Delicious pastries and cupcakes. Try the salted Carmel cupcake! They are so good. I expected it to be a little fancier with a name like "European Bakery and Tea Room" and Was surprised to walk in and see a high schooler wearing sports clothes behind the register.

Have gotten wonderful birthday cakes here over many years of vacationing on the Maine coast. Have had quite a variety and all the cakes have been delicious . Highly recommend the Opera torte, the Marzipan torte and the Princess Torte . I can't say I have had better in Europe

Wonderful find along Route 1 in Maine. This is a cute little European bakery with an astounding selection of pastries and other sweets. Your biggest problem will be picking just some to eat. The woman working the counter was fantastic - sweet and friendly. Their baked goods are definitely good - better than average, but they didn't blow me away. I do have very high standards in this category though. It would be nice if they added a few more teas to their selection, especially since they are just regular bagged teas. All that being said, the bottom line is that I would definitely come back.

I have a major sweet tooth and although I've had cake from the European Bakery I had never visited it. Well, that changed this week when it was the husband's birthday and I realized we were cake-less. I stopped in on my way home from work- around 5:30 pm on a weeknight and found an impressive selection of cakes and sweets (especially for it being 30 min before they closed!). I opted to get a couple smaller items vs. a cake so we could try a few things. I believe the small 16 inch cakes were $22 and I got 4 items for around $15. Here is the breakdown of what I got and the reviews of my husband and our friends: Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake- you MUST get this. It was A-mazing. So delicious. The peanut butter was mousse-like. So so good. By far our favorite item. Carrot Cake Cupcake- great creamy icing and delicious batter. Carrot cake is the hub's fav so this was a must. I was told the batter is the same as the bigger cakes so it was cool to be able to try it without buying an entire cake. Raspberry Mocha Cake- this was definitely the most interesting item I got and it was good, but our least favorite. The icing was mocha- very yummy. The cake was kinda like pound-cake and had raspberry filling with coconut and powder sugar on the outside. I think it was just a strange combo of flavors. I would enjoy the icing on something else. Maybe chocolate cake. Pecan Torte- Pecans with caramelized sugar and covered in chocolate. Really, really good. Great combo of sweet and salty. So, if you have a birthday or just want to satisfy your sugar craving- GO HERE! The staff was friendly and they even have tables and chairs and a "tea room". I have plans to go back with a friend and try more items. They probably had close to 50 different choices and honestly, everything looked delicious.

This is really not a fine French-type patesserie of delicate creams and pastry. It is vastly overpriced for what you get. But, in Falmouth you pay through the nose for everything.

I've been stopping at this little bakery for at least twenty years or since they opened. If I've been out shopping without lunch I'll stop have have a pot of tea and pick out a sweet to go with it....instant pick me up, sounds better than a sugar high! I have ordered beautiful Cakes, Cupcakes, Turnovers, Neopolitans. A favorite if I have a women's meeting at my home is to order Croissants the night before and stuff them with Chicken or Tuna Salad. Warning...they are large but oh so light and flakey and worth a rather hefty charge. Oh....also so good warmed up with a squirt of Nutella in them.

My wife planned a getaway weekend to celebrate my 50th birthday a few years ago. She is a professionally trained pastry chef so her expectations were very high. Knowing that I love marzipan she ordered one of their specialty cakes as my birthday cake. It was outstanding, but then again all of their products are! We stop every time we are in the Portland area!

It's a bit out of the way, but this place is an absolute gem. The pastries are displayed in clean and pretty cases and refrigerators. Everything cake-based is wonderfully moist and non-cake pastries are the appropriate combo of crispy outside, soft inside. Yum!!!

My mom's 48th birthday: 1 part mother-daughter day at the spa, 1 part nigiri and sake in Portland, and 1 part INSANELY delicious birthday cake. Came home after the spa and dinner to the birthday cake my stepdad picked up at a place near his job site. It was lemony cake with blueberries tossed into the layers and a toasted coconut dusting on the outer edge. The cake was moist and dense, not like the cakey or fluffy cakes you might be used to, but really good nonetheless. It felt spongey and cold (as it was meant to be served), and did not need a drop of liquid to wash it down. The frosting was thick and dense, however, it was not very sweet at all, so the density was not overwhelming. In fact, it was cool and creamy and refreshing, if you can imagine that from cake frosting. This is easily one of the best slices of cake I have tasted, and also probably the most unique in consistency. If I lived in Maine, I would make this my regular bake shop.

Helen is AWESOME! The pastries, cakes, cookies, whoopie pies, and service at European Bakery are way above board and completely amazing. I'm originally from Maine (now live in Cali). My now-husband and I decided to get married in Portland, and our reception venue recommended about five bakeries. We made "tasting" appointments for the week we were visiting. After meeting Helen (who co-owns the place w/ her husband, THE European Baker), seeing photos of their cakes, and tasting about 20 different cake combinations we canceled our appointments with other bakeries. Our wedding was last month. We got a cake for 50 people (honestly, I think we got 100 slices out of it!) decorated with ribbon and fresh flowers (purchased separately by us) for $200. It was the BEST wedding cake I've ever had, our guests were oohing and aahing ("lt lookes like a Martha cake!") and were raving about the yumminess. My husband wants to buy a cake from EB when we go home for Christmas just so we can have more EB cake - it was that good!

ooh la la. although, i think, that the owners are actually greek, no french. good family feel to the place. the pastries are good enough that i've actually gone 295 instead of route 1 because i knew the pink building would be too tempting to pass. the best kept secret about this place is not the fact that it's a tea room too (not so hot), but that they do custom cakes. and i mean custom-- your wildest wedding fantasty kind of thing, that taste smashing on top.
