This place is the closest to a real Italian I have found in Maine. Endless choices of subs, paninis, and some baked goods. Seasoned with oil and oregano, shredded lettuce, thin slices of onions. This is the real deal. If you are really hungry order a large but a small or half is more than enough to fill up on. They close around 3pm so it's a lunch kind of place.

Very disappointed. The service was incredibly slow despite there being more staff than customers. When they were finally finished they tried to give me the wrong sandwich. I spotted the error, but when I unwrapped the correct sandwich outside it was missing half the ingredients listed on the menu board. Given the slow service I decided to cut my losses and not waste time complaining. The other reviews are positive, so maybe just bad luck. Don't think I'll be returning next time I'm in town.

The best sandwich shop in town! We were inspired to go today after seeing the web site scanwiches.com and then trying to figure out where we could find a panini here. Voila! Try the Julius or The Boss.

Okay, you know me by now. You know what happens when I judge one of these places right? I get an Italian sub and see how bad they butcher it. What will it be, mayo? MUstard? How about American cheese? Not here my friends. This has to be the best Italian Sandwich I have had that didn't take an hour's worth of tutelage to help create. Right off the menu they say made with oil and vinegar. I want to hug the owner. I settle for my wife instead. I order what amounts to be a "Whole" grinder with Capicola, Prosciutto, Pepperoni, Ham & aged Provolone. For veggies all I had was thinly sliced onions and shredded lettuce and a few tomatoes. Oil and Vinegar, a few spices and perfecto! I WILL be back next year on vacation, and I WILL be back here for a sandwich! GET SOME!

Came here for lunch on a Monday while I was visiting clients in the area. This was just the place I was looking for and I wasn't disappointed. After some deliberation, I selected the Julius Panini (turkey, brie, balsamic onions, and honey mustard). It was very tasty and I pretty much inhaled it, all while enjoying the view of the harbor sparkling in the sunshine (boy, do I miss living in Maine!). I also tried their hot mulled cider, but I think it was a lil over-spiced. If I'm ever in the area during lunch time again, I'll be sure to stop by for another sandwich.

I fully admit that I'm a food snob. I usually find that anywhere north of Portland is a culinary wasteland where a good meal is hard to find. However, today I found a beacon of hope in "downtown" Damariscotta when I stumbled into Zecchinos. The sandwich I had was nothing short of spectacular. All the ingredients were fresh (it was a Tuesday) and the half size was more than enough. the only thing that would keep me from giving this a 5 out of 5 is that the ambiance and decor don't do the sandwiches justice. Don't get me wrong, it's clean and you have a view of the water (across the parking lot), but it's one of the places where you feel like you need to eat and run. But don't let that stop you from making this your mid day stop to have one of the finest sandwiches around.

Yup--great sandwiches. Nice view of the river, too.
