Stopped by tonight for a late dinner and were glad to find McLeod's open late. We both had different versions of fresh, and I mean fresh scallops, mine In a light, tasty cream sauce and my wife's with a sweet cracker crust. Both were done perfectly and were served with two well prepared vegetable sides. Service was excellent. I'm a fan of this place. I wish he would open another place in Connecticut.

Dinner was fine - nothing special, but not terrible. (NOTE: The ribs are country style and not standard bone-in.) The difference maker here were the desserts. Coconut custard and blueberry custard pies were both homemade and excellent. It would be worth it to go there just for dessert.

I don't understand the great reviews! Great waitress but the food was lousy... Almost like a mediocre diner. This is not a four or five star restaurant by any means The problem is there isn't a lot of competition. One last thing, we ordered a small bottle of pellegrino and the label on the bottle was completely moldy! We should of left then...

Great food. Well prepared. Had lobster with haddock chowder. Excellent. homemade cherry crisp. Very good cheerful service.

Conner was our server. He was great. I started with a super Bloody Mary. It was tasty (celery was eh). My dad ate a salad which was good. I stole a bite! The bread was fabulous. My grandmother enjoyed her scallops with cream sauce. The sides were pretty good. My mom had the seafood boat. Her portion was generous and she also liked it. The mashed sweet potatoes were a just a little bland. The baked potatoes were perfect. My dad and I had the butternut squash ravioli. It had wonderful flavor. The night ended with blueberry cheesecake. It is super tasty. My nana had the toll house pie. Prices were good and service was top notch. Definitely worth a trip in!

First meal in town we had. Best on two. Everyone's meals at our table were well prepared, hot, and tasty. I had the same spare ribs, excellent. Great sauce cooked perfectly. My wife had the special three cheese ravioli in pesto with sun dried tomatoes, excellent. Our dinner partners meals looked equally as good. They cleaned their plates with smiles. Staff very friendly. Had nice local beer selections. Stop in.

Visiting family from San Diego and they took me here. Very friendly and helpful server. Food was very well cooked and fresh! Seafood not over cooked which I find at many places.

Delicious food! Quaint little restaurant. Owner-operated.

I have never been disappointed at MacLeods! Outstanding steaks, seafood, and sandwiches with new, interesting items appearing on the menu regularly. Friendly service. Without a doubt the best place to eat in Bucksport!

Great service, good food (the oven fries where a little black at the ends). The steak was cooked properly and the slaw was tasty. I look forward to trying other dishes in the future. I do agree with others that the place could use an update.

I wanted to take my visiting family members out somewhere close-ish to Bar Harbor. I found MacLeod's through a Google search and asked a few friends if they had been and they recommended it. Nice quiet atmosphere and plenty of room between tables. One thing I noted with a bit of surprise was the lack of privacy in the restroom (not to mention the "men's" and "women's" signs that may make more squeamish people uncomfortable) - the saloon-style wide-slatted doors made me glad no one else was in the restroom with me. More suited to the bar than a restaurant, perhaps. No wait to be seated (we did call ahead for reservations, but there was plenty of seating - on a Thursday night in the fall), but it did take a while for the server to come around to take our order (there were two other tables with diners - one in the middle of their meal, one just leaving). I ordered the cilantro lime chicken breast and my family members each had haddock. I was underwhelmed with the presentation - the plates were large, which underscored the modest portions. I had plenty of mashed sweet potatoes, and a single pounded boneless chicken breast (small but adequate), but just a few carrot rounds and a bit of broccoli. Smaller plates would likely have made the portion size unobtrusive, but the smallness stood out on large white oblong plates. Making up for the portion size was the taste - the flavors were really delicious. The chicken was grilled really nicely and was moist and gristle-free. The vegetables weren't overcooked, though I would have seasoned the sweet potatoes a bit more. Not the most beautiful meal I've ever had, but among the most flavorful. My family members enjoyed their haddock, and I sneaked a 'chip' from the fish and chips (noting also that the haddock was not dripping in batter and oil - a bonus) and it was crisp and nicely cooked. It was late so I was talked out of the dessert I really wanted - I'll be going back for the Chilled Lemon Souffle!

We were in town visiting relatives and they took us to Macleods. I am so glad they did! Everything from the bread to the dessert was fabulous. We had the butternut squash ravioli appetizer - superb! My entree was the fish and chips, also delish. Server was attentive and helpful. All in all, I would definitely eat here again.

Amazing food and that stays consistent over the years. The staff that is there is pretty outstanding as well. They are usually understaffed though and sometimes there is obvious un-organization or a wait. Love the food!

Nice place to stop if you happen to stop here. Went for lunch while passing through. Quiet; only two other tables being served. Server was helpful and friendly. I had a Southwest salad that was generously portioned and tasty. Wife had a grilled cheese and tomato soup that she enjoyed. Lots of homemade desserts available, but we did not try any. Glad we found the place.

The baked haddock was darn tasty. Really old decor belies an establishment that can assemble a decent lunch.

Needed somewhere for dinner after leaving Acadia National Park. Bucksport didn't look too promising but Yelp reviews for MacLeods looked favourable. Exterior was unassuming but well maintained. The interior looked well lived in - this place has been here for ever! Most people eating here were regulars. So, how about the food? My wife and I had Salmon Cakes and a Lobster Roll. Both were surprisingly good - presentation, portion sizes, and taste. Also had Maine microbrews on tap. We shared a strawberry and rhubard crisp for dessert which was just excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Definitely recommend based on our experience.

The town of Bucksport does not immediately catch the eye as a lunch or dinner stop as you wend your way along the Maine coast. Although it claims a scenic location on the Penobscot River, this is a pleasant mill town rather than a scenic tourist destination. However, MacLeod's Restaurant is a surprisingly good find should you need a decent meal on your Downeast journey. There's no ocean view but you'll get friendly service in a homey atmosphere. We recently had a great lunch of scallops and lemon-lentil soup. I'm giving 4 stars not because it rates up there with the better big-city restaurants but because they deserve praise for providing thoughtful and interesting food, at moderate cost, in a small town. Way to go!

Messalicious Penobscot haddock Ruben. Divine. Irresistible. Ate the whole sandwich complimented by a crisp local ale on tap. My husband cooled a perfectly rare burger and cheddar fries. Our waitress was friendly, unbelievably efficient and happy to share a little local history. A fine lunch stop, especially coming off the Maine islands in mid spring where we encountered a plague of closed restaurants.

Only restaurant in Bucksport. Closed Mondays. We found scallop strudel bland (didn't care for cream cheese filling), but great haddock chowder & fresh, local green beans. Reasonable prices, good service. Nice mix of locals & tourists.

Nice family atmosphere. The only vegan option was a pasta dish with red sauce, hold the meatballs. Meal was decent, but waitress was extremely friendly, so gave 4 stars.

Best haddock chowder I've ever had. Also great burgers and friendly staff. Been here a couple times with co-workers and they all liked this place a lot too.

Very good restaurant. Wife had fresh fish was excellent, as was the steamed lobster which I had. Small paper mill town, old fort and new bridge (go up to the top for the view). Stayed the night and ate here. Very good food.

My brother brought me here on a cold spring evening (20 degrees with a heck of a wind blowing). He's been going there for years and I'm surprised no one else has review this place. It's down the street from a huge paper mill which probably scares off the tourists. I'm not much of a soup person but because it was so cold I had the tomato bisque - excellent! This was followed by the haddock and potatoes. Very good.
