I chose two cupcakes from the bakery and was handed the box and told to bring them to the register. The young woman facilitating my debit card purchase turned the electronic tablet around for me to sign while stating: "Please note the opportunity to enter a tip.". REALLY. $8.58 for two cupcakes in tandem with a worker who is not making a servers' wage. I am continuously offended by tip jars and now a direct request for additional money for just doing your job. Cupcakes expensive but good. Tip policy needs to be stopped.

Enjoyed a tasty birthday cake and fresh pastries from this bakery. The service is good and they are more than a bakery. I saw there was a sandwich made to order section with good options. I also noticed they have single serving of prepared food which was different for bakeries. I would highly recommend this place and it's worth the drive.

While on business in Brunswick I had the pleasure of eating at Wild Oats. It is a bustling, energetic eatery serving sandwiches, soups, and bakery items. I had a smoked turkey sandwich with a couple of add-ons. The person taking my order was quick to mention that there was an additional charge above three vegetables and avocado was $1.50. I wasn't concerned about the additional charge but for a customer that is, it's great that they are so up front with this information. The bread was fresh and delicious- vegetables were crisp and the atrium was the perfect place to sit and have lunch. They have a good thing going here. Can't wait to go back!

There's a reason Wild Oats is almost always packed. Great breakfast stop and great selection of prepared and frozen foods to take to the office for lunch or home for dinner. The gouda mac and cheese is absolutely delicious. I also like the biscuits and the biscuit breakfast sandwiches. I haven't had good experiences with the baked goods. Their buttercream frosting is too much butter, not enough sugar. It comes off as greasy, kindof Crisco-like. Not worth the calories.

Nice variety of good, fresh food. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would have given five stars but there is no handicap ramp to get into the store. Too many steps for an elderly person to navigate.

A busy place with lots to offer that was nonchalantly out of blueberry pie, which made us hella sad. Check to see if they have it before you trek over there.

On our way back from Bailey Island headed for Portland, I must have zigged when I should have zagged because we found ourselves in Brunswick at lunch time. A fortunate mistake because we ended up stopping at this restaurant. The posted menu included a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps and soups, but our decision was made after my wife pointed to the spinach and feta quiche sitting in the display case. It took awhile for our slices to be reheated which only serve to whet our appetites. Scrumptious with a capital S.

We had lunch there today. Sandwiches were just o.k., bread was nothing special, soup was luke warm. Here for three days...won't be going back.

Wild Oats Bakery is one of my favorite places to eat in Brunswick. The prices are a bit higher than your regular café style restaurant but you get what you pay for-high quality delicious food. Depending on what time you stop in it can be chaotically busy, especially around peak mealtimes. But each time I have gone the staff has been consistently friendly, courteous, and helpful. My favorite part about the Wild Oats Bakery is also the most overwhelming part of your experience which is the array of choices this place offers. They have burritos, soups, sandwiches, Panini's, wraps, quiches, and that's just some of the main course options available. The dessert and snack options are infinite but a little pricey. I have bought one of their cakes for a family members birthday, under the agreement that he would let me try a piece and it was heaven on a fork. However, the cakes, cookies, and other great dessert treats can be dangerous so beware. Today the Butterfinger cake actually spoke to my boyfriend and I saying, " Buy cakes, buy cakes." Okay so it was the sales person behind the counter that was actually speaking but you get the idea. While the entrée selections range from healthy to devilishly fattening most of the desserts offered are not calorie sensitive. Overall, pricey but worth it.

Well, it was the most expensive meat-free salad I've ever purchased, but it was pretty delicious so at least there's that. I got a spinach, goat cheese, cherry, and almond salad with bleu cheese dressing and a small container of roasted beets, with a small bottle of water, and the total was $17! Those are like airport prices... The salad was pretty excellent and prevented scurvy during a week of Thanksgiving feasting. I took advantage of their wifi and did some work for a while. Got a latte and a cupcake to go as I left - there is no skim milk available, and the latte was OK but not great. The peanut butter cupcake was ridiculously good, and large. I split it and ate the other half later. All in all, great food, but be prepared to PAY.

We enjoyed delicious, healthy sandwiches and snacks. The shop was full of happy, chatting patrons of all ages and there was plenty of seating. It was a quick jaunt off the highway and Maine St. in Brunswick is charming.

This is a really solid and reasonably priced place to get lunch if you're visiting Brunswick. They have a wide array of choices, from made-to-order sandwiches to yummy-looking deli salads and hearty casseroles and soups. I tried the Portuguese kale and sausage soup and split a panini and thought both were delicious, and a good value. The vibe inside is sort of cafeteria-like, and you can tell that lots of locals eat here. No frills, but cozy. Minus one star for the lack of signage about the ordering system- as someone who had never been here before, I was kind of confused about how and when you're supposed to pay, and for which things (for example, for the sandwiches, you get paper tickets you're supposed to hold onto, whereas for many of the other items you just put them on your tray and pay at the end). Once you realize the ordering and paying are cafeteria style, things make more sense!

Their pastries are very yummy and we got our wedding cake from there, but sadly the woman that made our cake ended up leaving. I don't know if they still do wedding cakes anymore, but I was thrilled with mine!! And the carrot cake was amazing and it was a real carrot cake! No nuts, raisins or pineapples-just real carrots.....mmmmm, awesome!

If you ever visit Brunswick, Maine...YOU MUST GO HERE. Of all of the places I visited during my trip to Maine, this is was the best find of all. A friend brought me here on our last day in Brunswick, so it was a quick grab n' go. If I had extra time I would have bought one of everything in the bakery, but managed to pick up the Gouda & Bacon Mac n' Cheese, which was incredibly tasty. Also could not resist grabbing a Heath Bar Rice Crispy Treat. Other things I will have to come back for: Any one of their pies, the carrot cake muffins (locally-sourced..like most of their food is), and a couple of the soups. I am kicking myself for not having brought a larger bag - would have gladly stocked my fridge with tasty meals for a few extra days. Did I mention that you have to go here? Okay, just making sure. :-)

The good: Food was very good, especially the soup. Lattes also good (although they really should get skim milk), baked goods looked decadent (in a good way). Great sandwiches. A little pricey, but not awful. The bad: If you pay by credit card, they turn around the screen and in BIG LETTERS (so everyone in line can see), they make you select a tip amount. This is a take-out place for gosh sakes. I really don't like being guilted into tipping, but my option was to give a tip for simply standing behind a case and handing me my food, or select "0%" with 5 people standing behind me in line and feeling cheap about it. They could easily give you a receipt with a tip line (just like in a restaurant)...they clearly do this to guilt you into tipping them.

I really love this cafe. They offer many vegan and vegetarian options (and label them as such). Their soups, sandwiches, and sweets are especially awesome. I only wish that they had more vegan desserts. They only have one and it's an expensive little cake. I want a cookie, brownie, or muffin. They do have a yummy chia pudding, though!

GREAT place for just about any kind of food you want. Salads, sandwiches, soups and a whole deli case of prepared foods and a Bakery too! Fresh, wholesome and allergy-sensitive as well. You cannot go wrong at Wild Oats. Enjoy!

Tasty coffee and snacks, which are apparently made fresh in the store, met my expectations. The lemon poppy seed whoopie pie was huge, and probably best split among a group of people. The ambiance was fairly forgettable. This shop felt a bit more like a grocery store than a nice place to enjoy a cup of Java. Get yours to go.

It's not surprising this place is packed during meal hours and every hour on the weekends. Everything is freshly prepared. There is something for the taste bud craving savory or the sweet tooth. I like their sandwiches. I have had them a couple of times. They come up with some pretty creative combos that always hook me in, even if I am not hungry. There seems to always be a minimum of 5 different types of soups that you can peek at while they prepare your sandwich. The entrees are amazing. If you want one "for here" you can order it at the counter. However, don't forget to browse the cooler/freezer area along the wall near the sandwich order counter. The have a vast selection of entrees and desserts and drinks. It is wonderful because they are frozen ready for you to take them to go for reheating. If you follow the heating instructions it tastes as if they just made it for you. I have tried and thoroughly enjoyed the Turkey Pot Pie (It was like Thanksgiving under a buttery crouton chunks). The macaroni and cheese with smoked bacon. I loved it, because it was perfect in my opinion. There was a nice balance of cheese with the noodles and the bacon just danced around the entree enhancing every bite. Did I mention I love bacon!? If you are still waiting for your sandwich (because they can be quite intricate) follow the sandwich counter down to the cakes and pies display. Good luck if you choose to buy something, because there is so much to choose from AND everything is worth buying. My favorites? Anything having to do with red velvet (cakes, whoopie pies...) Anything that is a pie, in a pie crust and/or covered with a pie crust :) and of course carrot cake. If you have room in your arms, bags, and wallet, grab some cookies to go. I enjoy the Heath Bar Toffee Cookie and the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and the ..ok all of the cookies I do love them all. I could go on, but I am sure there is something in the guidelines about lengths of reviews. Please PLEASE stop to try this place, they will have something you will enjoy...I promise and you are shopping LOCALLY!

There are those places; anchors in each community of a certain size that help foster interaction among creatives and others who value civic engagement. Some people have dubbed them, "third place." The more I hang out at Wild Oats in Brunswick, the more I recognize they are one of those places. There are the regulars you see, it's pretty easy to get to and find parking, and with the additional seating, it's become increasingly welcoming and comfortable. I like the vast menu, whether I'm craving a sandwich, a salad, soup, or burrito. In the realm of convenience food, which I'd reluctantly lump Wild Oats, it's rare to find that place that has something for everyone, even that friend, family member, or fellow creative professional with the weird dietary restrictions. Wild Oats makes most of their items from scratch from the finest, most wholesome ingredients available. The prices are reasonable and they give back to the community. The community continues to validate that commitment (since 1991) by voting with their pocketbooks and/or wallets. One negative review slammed them on price. It's anyone's perogative to share their views, but if anyone has ever imbibed that regrettable robo sandwich at the chain eatery named after an underground train or something with the two golden spans (because there was nothing else around), you should know that Wild Oats is comparable and their food isn't trucked frozen from factory headquarters halfway across the country. Call that friend or colleague you haven't seen for months and meet them at Wild Oats for good food and fellowship. You'll be glad you did.

Wild Oats is - without a doubt - just lovely. It's a place where you can feel confident about what you're getting to eat regardless of your dietary needs (who doesn't love when things are clearly labeled?!). It's a place that appreciates its customers and treats them all - regardless if its your first time visiting or your fortieth time visiting - with respect and genuine friendliness. It's a place where you know attention-to-detail went into the creation of each dish, cupcake, and soup. And it's a place that leaves you feeling a little bit better than when you first entered. I had a meeting here recently, and instead of ordering one of the specialty sandwiches, a "customer favorite", or a grilled panini, I decided to build my own option. I ordered the mock chicken salad (made from tempeh) on Abenaki bread with avocado, lettuce, and tomato. The girl behind the counter - though incredibly rushed - took the time to look up from her pad, smile warmly, and say, "Y'know, you can have one more veggie on there since you're not getting a protein." I was blown-away that she noticed I was ordering vegan and absolutely delighted that she went out of her way to make sure I was being gastronomically taken care of. How thoughtful, right? The sandwich itself was much bigger than I thought it was going to be (I'm glad that I didn't get any chips to go with it), but I ate every last crumb. It was incredibly satisfying and filling, but not so much so that I felt like I needed to go running afterwards or that I was going to be lethargic for the rest of my work day. I couldn't believe the generous portions of "chicken" salad (which, by the way, wasn't offensive tasting, weirdly tangy, soupy, or off-puttingly smelly as so many soy-based "salads" tend to be) and avocado there was, either! I would - and will - come back here for lunch again! There's just too many things on the menu I want to try (those soups smelled amazing and the Boston Cream-filled cupcakes were calling my name). It can be a little chaotic at lunch and, yes, the lay-out of the store can seem a little scattered and confusing (order sandwiches all the way in the back on the lefthand side, there are some baked goods [cupcakes, for example] are also near that, a soup bar is located in a center aisle, some more baked goods and the cashier on the righthand side). But don't worry! This isn't one of those judgmental places that expects you to just know where everything is and follow some unspoken set of rules about lines and ordering techniques. So go ahead, take your time, and poke around, because it's chaotic but in the best way possible!

Everything is delicious here! I absolutely love the assortment of sweets, sandwiches, and soups that they have on a daily basis. The food is always fresh and they even deliver to the local campus. A great bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Whenever I'm back in town, I will definitely go and visit!

My go to place in Brunswick! LOVE everything. Yes, it is expensive. However, it's local, fresh, and mostly healthy. More seating than you would expect. Soups and salads are always good here and lots of desert options. Love it for a working lunch. Everyone who works here is also very nice.

My first stop on my adventure to Brunswick! An initially confusing place to walk into, but the 1/2 turkey salad sandwich (customer favorite!!) and cup of fish chowder were totally delicious. Don't be afraid to admit that you don't have a clue and they will take you by the hand and help you out. It's divided into sandwich area, cooler/cold bev area, soup area, coffee area, and bakery area, with a central pay (cash only?) area. You can eat in, which I did, or take out. I would probably eat here a LOT if I lived locally, so I'll be back for a visit for shizz.

forecast to rain buckets today (still is with howling wind, swaying trees, rough waters) so ran over yesterday for rations. turkey chili, curried chicken salad, roast vegetable quiche, yum wild blueberry pie thick with fruit. and turkey day meal for my heathen expat house guests of brunswick stew and pumpkin pie. gobble, gobble y'all.

Wild Oats is a most definitely a staple of the Brunswick community. They have a wonderful, friendly, & personable staff as well as a wonderful selection. They're very conscious of the growing need for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options & always have a vast array of choices.

Delicious food and great selection. My only negative comment would be to replace high chairs. Big, clumsy, and takes up too much space. Replace with simple, wooden chairs that pull up to table. This style can be stacked and stored quite easily.

Cosy atmosphere but uninteresting food. Tons of variety but not much flavor. I was looking for good place to have a treat and a cup of hot chocolate. I ended up also having lunch. The veggie melt was soggy and gooey. The hot chocolate was too sweet. The gluten free cookie was good but also a bit too sweet. It is a very popular place and the selection looks nice and is fresh but blah.

Llittle off Maine st in a little mall like atmosphere. Food was fresh and very good. Many soups to choose from, desserts, cookies. Muffins, large drink variety. It was very good and will definitely be going back. They also have meals ready to go.

Lots of seating, lots of choices for salads. Half of menu wasn't visible until cash register. Trivia cards at every table. The soup was cold and pretty boring. The bread seems cheap. No alcohol.

I absolutely loveeeeee this place. I work at the toy store across the hall (Slot Car Junction) and I always wind up eating at Wild Oats on break :p The only reason I chose 4 stars is because it's a little pricey... but the quality is very good so I guess that makes up for it. They have tremendous cupcakes and deserty things.. great sandwiches and lunch stuff. Even frozen dinner options! It's a must-do :) PS, busy practically all day! But, it's because they're so good!

Love it! I just went back to Bowdoin since graduating 2 years ago and the food was just as good as I remember it. I had a tuna melt with a strawberry turnover. My friend had a chowder with bacon in it. And my third friend, she is vegetarian gluten free, had plenty of options to choose from and they were all delicious choices. There's soup, sandwiches, baked goods, a variety of other dishes and I've never regretted a purchase.

My favorite place to get sandwiches and coffee whenever I get to Brunswick. Very high quality ingredients, cheerful and accommodating staff, and an interesting range of choices (including building your own sandwich if their regular choices don't quite match your hankerings). Ambiance is casual and friendly. Great bread to take home afterwards, too.

When my wife and I took a trip through Maine and played the "hypothetically, which Maine town would you want to live in," Wild Oats factored majorly in my answer of "Brunswick." A tremendous selection of healthy lunch items, alongside a very nice mix of baked goods. We ate their twice, and had only one disappointing item (a burrito-ish thing) - the rest were great.

Love the fresh tasting food of this place - I wish we had a place like this around where I currently live. We have Whole Foods, but it just isn't the same... I love building your own sandwich - all the breads are amazing, and all the veggies are really crisp and fresh!

When we moved to Brunswick 9 years ago and stopped into Wild Oats one morning, we knew this was the place that the locals wanted to eat and hang out. They have 8 - 10 different homemade soups each day that come with their homemade bread. Sandwiches are terrific with many choices of their breads. You should try one with their onion dill bread! Can't eat a whole sandwich? They sell half sandwiches too. Their curried chicken salad is wonderful and so are the various side dishes like pasta and veggie salads. For breakfast, you can choose from bagels, quiche, scones and muffins. There is also fresh fruit and yogurt with granola and fruit. Desserts are plentiful from homemade cakes, cupcakes, pastries, brownies, cookies and biscotti. At every season, you'll find adorable cookies in all shapes, sizes and colors. The bakery has recently expanded its indoor seating area with more tables. Until it gets cold, you can sit outside too. Enjoy coffees and teas as well as juices with all their delights.

Amazing selections of salads, baked goods, soups, desserts and even drinks! They have best quality for to-go food in this lovely bowdoin college town. I just got the cranberry lemon green tea, and it's so good that I really want to onions the recipe! You can ask to sample some salads before you decide which one to get, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful! Such a fantastic place and the dining area is enormous. Wish there's one like this in San Francisco...

One of the best places in brunswick for its diversity of offerings. We often take guests to Wild Oats because there is something for everyone...whether it is a sandwich, soup, quiche, etc. The food is quite good... the baked goods being the standouts. Plenty of vegetarian, vegan, gluten free options if that is your thing. I am not a big fan of the space they occupy. Due to the constraints of Tontine Mall, their space is disjointed, loud and crowded.

We were spending a Sunday in Brunswick last week while visiting from North Carolina and were so glad to find Wild Oats for lunch! It wasn't too crowded when we went, so we got right in. Yummy selection of soups and sandwiches (we had a panini and some delicious seafood stew)--and delicious baked goods (flourless chocolate cake was one of the best I've ever had!). Nice, casual setting, reasonable prices. Would definitely return were it not 1000 miles from home!

What is there not to love about Wild Oats? Their Fish Chowder is amazing, their sandwiches are perfectly made, and have you tried their desserts...omg. It is a Brunswick staple and if you haven't been there then what are you waiting for? There is something for everyone. It is usually packed so good luck finding a parking spot. It can be a little confusing when you first walk in but you will get the hang of it. It is a little pricey but for fresh made local food, you are getting a deal! The staff is helpful and friendly and always ready to help. I love going here and have never had anything I didn't like. You can create your own sandwich, try one of their 10 homemade soups, or pick a salad, burrito, quiche, or mac and cheese. You will not be disappointed.

How can this place have only four stars?? Seriously, so delicious. You will want everything. I got the carrot ginger soup on a cold winters day and it was perfection. The flavors of the soup and sweet potato salad with beets was sooo frickin good. Lots of healthy goodies and lots of homemade treats that maybe aren't so healthy, but everything's ok in moderation right? Love this place.

I think I like the idea of this place more so than the execution. I can't get over the price. Don't get me wrong, they have good daily soups and great bread for sandwiches. But, it's expensive, hence the 3 stars as opposed to 4...seriously, I am not a fan of $20 lunches, (soup, sandwich and drink). I guess I did not "build my own" correctly, or maybe the soup is really high, i don't know? If I had to guess, it is expensive more so because they have perhaps 7 employees working lunch (excessive), instead of the price of the ingredients which are more natural and less processed. While the food is good, if they came off the price $2-$5, I'd provide higher rating. Also, their loyalty program is a joke. In the end, you only achieve a 10% discount on one meal after a multitude of dines.

Was in recently and ordered a breakfast sandwich panini. It was a fairly simple egg, bacon and cheese (boursin) sandwich, and I have to say, it was the absolute worst breakfast sandwich I've had in a long time. I originally went in to grab an off-the-shelf breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, however they were sold out, so they said they'd make me a panini. The sandwich cost $7.95 and everything in the sandwich before it was grilled was microwaved! It was horrible.

Have vacationed in area for last few years and always stop in to Wild Oats Bakery for their soup bar, sandwiches and bread. Everything is fresh and delicious. We had a family birthday during our visit, called week before we arrived and ordered birthday cake. They were wonderful to work with and cake was waiting for us when we stopped in on day of arrival in Brunswick. Vanilla Raspberry buttercream was delicious! Wish we had a Wilds Oats in our town!

I wish I lived in this town. Such a great cafe - so many different things on the menu, awesome set up, and the staff was so friendly. I'm not going to complain about the prices because you get what you pay for - killer food that is made perfectly. No complaints here :)

I love Wild Oats! This isn't the store that was bought out by Whole Foods, it's a local delicious cafe/deli/bakery with mainly fresh, organic ingredients. Local/seasonal. They have yummy baked breads including Anadama & delicious baked goods, love the morning glory muffins. Sandwiches, desserts also delicious. Really fresh, yummy often quite healthy salads (tried a broccoli one recently when I was in Maine & also edamame). Great soups too. Super friendly staff and warm surroundings. Can eat in or take out. Outdoor seating also great on a nice day.

This little gem of a bakery/deli is hidden off Maine Street in downtown Brunswick. And it's perfect for a light casual lunch. Known for it's made to order speciality sandwiches, it has been an "editor's choice" in several local and national magazines. It has breads, pastries, quiches, daily salads, daily soups, desserts and coffee, but the deli favorite seems to be the turkey-cranberry mayo sandwich on their menu (the first day I went 2 out of 4 people ahead of me ordered this). Most people order off the "make your own" sandwich menu, and there are the sandwich standards (turkey, ham, veggie, tuna or chicken salad, etc.) but you can dress them up with a twist with a non-traditional mayo or mustard if you wish. I like the vegetarian options for their sandwiches, salads and soups, and they have also vegan options both in sandwiches and salads. Plus whatever they have on the menu, you can take home with you and there is a freezer stocked with previous menu items (like winter vegetable lasagna) that you can take and cook at your own leisure. The decor is nothing fancy and you can show up in any type of dress. I suspect that during the semester this place is crowded with students, but during the summer, it's mostly locals. They aren't open past 5 pm (and I think they close early on Sunday) , so it's mostly a breakfast and lunch place. For the price, the value is decent. It's situated in a corner of the Tontine Mall, so it's not easy to find. Parking is at a premium despite the fact that they have a parking lot. The food and decor aren't five star, but for the price and variety, this is probably the best bet in downtown Brunswick for a light casual lunch.

A gem indeed. Generally the service is great, even if you have to wait in the cluster of a line that forms during breakfast and lunch rushes. I haven't had anything from Wild Oats that I disliked. Great outdoor deck for warmer months, witty staff, comfy couches inside the mall to stop and have a chat. Also check out their frozen food (towards the back of the store).

Awesome soups. Imaginative & tasty. Our favs on this visit: creamy vegetable tortellini, and squash banana curry (yup, you read that right). Lots of vegan & vegetarian options. Full deli (quiches, cold deli salads, sandwiches). Great baked goods too. Coffee just ok, but everything else eclipses that single drawback.

I love Wild Oats! they introduced me to the fantastic-ness of the biali: a bagle english muffin hybrid. mmmmm, mmmmm. their baked goods are unbelievable good, both savory and sweet. they used to let the track team come in for one night during our pre-season and bake our own cookies, using their recipes, ingredients, and equipment... AMAZING! also, they have a great selection of coffee and soups.

Simply the best sandwiches you can find. Fresh ingredients, creative salads, lots of toppings, and wonderful bread. The sandwiches are large, so you might want to split one and then you will have room for some of their terrific cookies.

Organic breads and sandwiches, a nice half-dozen organic soups made here. Wholesome environment, some outside tables. Low prices. We go here often.

I absolutely adore Wild Oats!! Everything is homemade, fresh, and delicious. You absolutely cannot go wrong for lunch here (or even breakfast). All you have to do is just smell the soups and you know they'll be delicious. The sandwiches are wonderful and creative - and the breads are so good it sometimes doesn't even matter what's between the slices! They are definitely vegetarian/vegan-conscious here as well, which is a nice touch; the sandwich menu includes several soy-meat products and fake-mayonnaise to boot. The desserts are great too, although I don't recall seeing any vegan options. On occasion, I've also stopped in for to-go pasta salads, fruit cups, etc., when I need to get on the road, all of which have also been equally delicious. Definitely go here for lunch if you're in Brunswick!!

Absolutely fantastic!! The meals were delicious and the cupcakes we had were insane. We ate a late lunch here and were stuffed on the way out... Would most definitely come back and recommend it!!
