Moved away in 2008 and just moved back. Oh, China Rose, what happened? New owners , I think, and the buffet was tasteless and many items were cold. Won't be back.

Ugh. This in my opinion was the worst restaurant experience I've had in many, many years. We used to live in the area and had been to China Rose many times. It was perfect when you wanted the typical Chinese buffet and Americanized Chinese food. You know what I mean - chicken fingers, the red pork, egg rolls, fried rice, etc. The wife and I were passing through the area last weekend and I had a craving for Chinese buffet. China Rose seemed to fit the bill. Bad mistake. The first indication something was wrong should have been the empty parking lot on a Saturday night. Always used to be fairly full on the weekends. The second clue should have been the deteriored state of the building. The third warning sign should have been the lack of A/C and high humidity in the restaurant when we walked in. Unfortunately hunger and stubborness overruled common sense and we sat down (over my wife's protests I might add). The food was terrible. Many dishes were lukewarm at best. Chicken fingers were nothing but grease. The buns were literally hockey pucks. I could go on and on but I'm getting nauseous. I was mystified at what happened to the China Rose. It used to be a quite solid choice for heart attack Chinese food. Some research provided the answer. China Rose was sold to new owners in 2012. We will never be back. Don't waste your money or time here.

Excellent buffet fresh and wide selection problem is I eat too much. As buffets go this is above average. Price is decent.

Listen, the wait staff were all so kind and attentive but the food (dinner buffet) was just not great. Everything was bland and sub par for Chinese food. That, and at $15 per person, it's just not worth it. Ambience was dingy, fluorescent. Not good enough to return to unfortunately.

This place is okay but would not say amazing. Decent selection of food but sometimes questionable how long it's been under a heat lamp. There is also soft serve ice cream on tap which is my favorite thing here. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable.

So while I currently live in San Diego, the China Rose remains some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. I've been here more times than I can count and the owners are really really nice. What I love about the food here is that it's a buffet but they care about the quality of the food being served. So many other buffets serve the food and it's cool, it's a buffet, but it's not GOOD Chinese food. The China Rose has always been great. I wish San Diego had a Chinese restaurant like this... I always try to go when I'm back!

Came here for dinner while visiting Brunswick for a long weekend. The staff was nice but the food was just okay. The sushi didn't seem very fresh and most of the other items on the buffet were greasy, fried foods. The restaurant itself was also kind of a strange place- it seemed like it may have at one time been some kind of a department store as the entrance had an old jewelry counter/display case. The carpets were old and it just felt run down inside and out. I don't think I'd return here unless I was drunk and starving with only a few dollars in my wallet. Sorry :(

For cheap buffet style dining, China Rose is your place. I only give it such a low rating because after eating there twice I experienced food poisoning. I will say it was a few years ago, but I probably won't go back there anytime soon.

The China Rose has been widely regarded as the BEST Chinese buffet around. It is now under new ownership which may explain why my latest trip there was so disappointing. The food was very very bland and the service left a lot to be desired. The waitress seemed far more interested in her cell phone. The egg rolls were utterly tasteless. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in losing such a great place to eat.

I would give the China Rose a better rating, but i am not a huge fan of Buffet style eating. HOWEVER, as a buffet, it is one of the best ive tried. they offer peking duck and seafood, and you get what you pay for. Just dont take too much food if you dont know if you are going to like something, because they get really snotty at you.

Visit tegularly from NM and enjoy this place. Plenty of good choices and the staff is helpful & friendly. Especually like the Hong Kong Chicken ( kind of a roasted sauced chicken that reminds me of roast pork ) and the hot n sour soup. Very fresh seafood especially the cooked shrimp. I would recommend the lunch over the dinner as I feel diner is a bit over priced. Also go when they are in full swing as if you come late the food has been sitting around for a while and is a bit soggy. Nice that beverage is included in price

My wife and I went on a weds evening about 7 pm we were seated and went to the Buffet.Five of the items at the buffet station were empty and the other offerings were sparse, old and cold. 13.95 a piece!!!Things have changed since Anna's left...Never going back.

The food is average and probably sits too long under warmers. The selection is excellent with salad, ice cream, chinese dishes, and american classics.. The prices are perfect and the service is prompt and friendly. The crab rangoon were soft and had little crunch. The spring rolls had a great combo of flavor, indgredients and crunch. For the price, no place compares

Great place to eat. It was a standard buffet but the food was better than normal. The mussels may have been the best I have eaten so far. It was clean and the staff was very friendly.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
