Had a perfect dinner at the Black Horse Tavern tonight. Shannon waited on us, suggested Shipyard Pumpkin Ale (yum!). I found the gumbo too hot for this meat-and-potatoes girl. Shannon had it taken off the bill, which I found a very professional response to the situation. Food great. Company fun. I wish more restaurants were like the Black Horse Tavern.

Well soon McDonalds will take the crown of best food in Bridgton but i guess Black Horse has it right now. I keep it simple here get the cheese burger. It was probably frozen but you can screw up a cheese burger. The sweet potato fries are decent. My wife likes to challenge them and that usually ends up costing me my fries. Overall just not that great and decently expensive to boot. For the area i should maybe bump them up a star but i really don't like the atmosphere either.

I had diner on a Friday night around 6:30pm. I must have just caught a bad night because Ive eaten here before and have had a good meals. This meal was their Angus Beef Meatloaf. It took forever to arrive and only one other party of 6 was in the front dinning room with us. The meatloaf arrived cool on outside, and luke warm in the middle. It was also soggy. Im thinking it sat for awhile as our waitress was a ghost all night. I was absolutely starving and just bit the bullet and ate what I could of it. It took over 20 minuets to get our bill after she acknowledge we were done dinning and never asked if we would like a dessert. I wanted something to take home for later, but quietly lost patience. My date had their Sirloin tips, but they forgot to put the sauce on the meat, which I know comes on it, as I had it the last time I ate there. The waitress took care of that right away. I know there's a reason their always busy, I just got a bad night. Every business has them.

I am a camp counselor who brought her parents to this restaurant on a chance night out. I only know a few local spots, and since the owners of the inn my parents were staying at recommended the Black Horse, we went. At first, my stepmother was dismayed at the old, black carpeting in the dining room, which appeared as though it had not been vaccuumed in a day or two (pieces of food on the floor). We put that behind us, though. The service was slow, though friendly. The seafood chowders were lukewarm, though the french onion soup was delicious and piping hot. My stepmother eats all desserts, and rarely leaves a bite, yet she could not finish the creme brulee because it did not taste fresh, nor of the regular, smooth consistancy. I would not go here again, though I have heard of others' positive experiences. Go at your own discretion.

Always a good meal here. Price is right, friendly staff and nice menu selection. Can't go wrong here - something for everyone!

mmm - My choice, "The Owner's Favorite" was a filet smothered with gorgonzola butter that made my mouth water. Add a side of mashed potatoes smothered in brown gravy and I was done.

this place has grown on me....it's really great in the winter months and you sit by a fire and enjoy your meal...some locals come here so it's got a good reputation....I prefer my drinks less watered down but I know every place that serves has a balancing act between flavor and getting sued. Decor isn't the newest and does look tired but the food has been consistetly good during the past several years I have been going. Did have one bad meal long ago....prime rib that was very fatty.....they discounted the meal price. I have been told the deserts are made on premises and I remember a lemon square that was very tasty. Bar is small and be prepared to wait on a weekend night.

I have been going here for more than 15 Yrs now and it remains about the same. Nice decor, great bar good service and average food. The quality is chain at best with nothing special or worth bragging about. It is still a good place to meet friend and have a good time.

We come up this way every summer, and tried this place tonight for the first time. Our party of 4 LOVED the seafood chowder, and enjoyed the Caesar salad and warm rolls. For dinner, we give thumbs up to the ribs (fork and knife tender, fall off the bone), the steak tips, and the shepard's pie crepe. The special fried oysters were just ok, not great, too battered and not golden enough. The lowest priced Merlot was very good, as were the mixed drinks and beer selection. Fries were very good. I'd go back, but will probably try other places first.

I don't understand the rave reviews, maybe I missed something? Maybe the reviews reflect that it's the best of Bridgton, where there's a dearth of choice. We were eager to try, on a busy week end in July (camp visiting day) (they don't take reservations) and found ourselves waiting for an hour for a table. Once seated, service was prompt and attentive. The food was fair, but definitely nothing to write home about. I had the grilled steak salad. Steak was slightly chewy, lettuce tasted coarse (Like some feed you would give to livestock), my husband ordered the fried fish platter (special of the day) and liked it. My kids ordered hamburgers and were unable to finish them, they were so dry. Expect to pay $$ for something mediocre.

Smaller than it looks, always crowded. Great atmosphere and decor. Food is simply average. Service is not so great in the restaurant. Great fn Bloody Mary's!

We had an unexpectedly amazing lunch here. Highly recommended! The burger was fantastic, and the pulled pork sandwich hit the spot. Our bartender was friendly and knew the menu inside out.

I just went with a friend. We ordered drinks (Bloody Mary and a Manhattan), which were delicious and well prepared. Our meals (the Angus Meatloaf and Salmon) were beautifully presented and delicious through and through. The only negatives with our visit was the noise level when we arrived (very loud in the small room we were in) as well as that our order did take quite a while to come out...perhaps about half an hour. If you have an evening to spare and are not rushed for time, this is a wonderful restaurant to kick back, relax, and have a delicious meal with friends.

Their Sunday brunch is to die for! The menu has variety and there's always a few specials to choose from on top of that. I always get the hash because it hasn't let me down yet!

Fabulous smoked wings. Chicken fingers, haddock sandwich, and oyster plate were also very good. The oil is obviously very clean given the light and crispy breading across the board. Drinks and service also very good. A favorite stop every time we are in town.

Fairly basic American restaurant. The ambiance and service about on par with a chain (think Applebee's). However, they have a shapard's pie crepe. It was ridiculously good. If you up that way spending a week on the lake, this will hit you like a 5-star restaurant. Rest assured it's not. Very junior varsity drink selection, and given Maine's prominence in the craft beer world, that's inexcusable. Despite all of that, this is a serviceable alternative to a fast food joint.

I'm a fan of Black Horse Tavern. I don't think we are going back to Bridgton anytime soon, but if I did, I just might stop back in. I've been here a few times, and the stuffed scrod, their signature dish, is always yummy. One time, they had a special of angry orchard cider with a shot of their homemade apple vodka. I rarely drink cider but it was really yummy. The next time, they didnt have the vodka anymore--but they recommended a shot of cinnamon whiskey which was even better.. Nice low key place with good food and drinks!

Good food & great service We came here for dinner and had friendly and expedient service from our server Dee. The staff worked together to expedite her busy section with a congenial and helpful demeanor. I had the soup special, cream of chicken and my sister had the clam chowder which was perfect for us on a rainy day. The house steak was good but it was not the best I had. I also tasted the haddock stuffed with crabmeat and it was DeLiCiouS. Wine, bread, apps, & entree finished in less than 90 minutes, perfect timing for us to catch a movie nearby. Definitely recommend it if your in town.

After 24 years of coming, they've only gotten better. Fantastic attentive staff. For dealing with crabby tourists from away, they certainly hold it together incredibly. This restaurant has wonderful steaks, always a creative menu and they make you feel welcome. Wish the bar was a bit bigger, it's nice to drop in for a quick bite at lunch if there are stools open. If not, meet some new folks and chill out. They go out of their way to please and it's cook to order so naturally it takes a bit longer. It's Maine people, relax, enjoy and don't bring the stress from southern states here, we are doing just fine and the Black Horse remains one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Keep up the good Work Nick, Angie, Pam, Brit and the gang, you are MUCH appreciated! See you soon!

My boyfriend and I went to Black Horse Tavern for dinner on a week night. We each had the sea food chowder- loved it. For dinner I had the stuffed haddock as it came recommended from other yelpers- definitely a good dinner as I was stuffed! My boyfriend had a sirloin which he throughly enjoyed. I got the dessert to go which was a fruit tart- heated it up at our cabin and it was just as good. The waitress was really sweet too as she offered to put ice cream in a cup for me to bring home =)

Delicious food, and great service!! Our server was so kind and attentive. She was willing to accommodate my dietary needs. They have vegetarian/vegan options too. The garden burger and portobello sandwich were delicious! Highly recommend if you're in the Bridgton area.

We ate there today and dollar for dollar two of the worst seafood meals we've had. First the crab stuffed mushrooms for 8.99, you got 5 button mushrooms that were mediocre. The daily special of Cajun sea scallops ($23.99 or 22) were overly seasoned, overcooked and so small it was a stretch to call them sea scallops versus bay scallops. My girlfriend ordered the lobster pie that was very dry and tasteless. Then they put two tables together and sat a party of 8 right on top of us to the point the waitress was practically sitting on out table to take their order and I could get out without moving our table. At this time the pace was kind of empty and there was other seating options open for a large party. The drink prices are decent otherwise I may have gone with one star. 2 drinks, one appetizer, two bland overpriced entrees for 70 bucks not including tip. Nope won't be back.

I really liked this place. We stopped in for dinner after a long drive from Connecticut. The food was good and our waitress was awesome. They had some good IPAs on tap and everything we ordered was delicious. Some of the dishes ordered included the ribs, steak tips, and blueberry salmon salad. No complaints from anyone at our table.

Growing up in Bridgton my family went to the Black Horse about once a month. Why we went so often I have no idea, the food was mediocre and the service was terrible. One of my worst memories of this place as a child was ordering something, hearing nothing from the staff for literally an hour and then only being told, after everyone else was served, that they ran out of whatever I ordered. I believe ownership changed in the past few years, and it took me a while after moving back to Bridgton to work up the nerve to visit again. I'm glad I did because this place has MUCH improved over the years. The food isn't super memorable, but it's definitely not bad. A bit overpriced for the quality but it's still probably some of the best food in town. Service is also much better. All of the waitstaff is very friendly and any issues have been cleared up quickly and courteously.

Great place. Small but high-quality draught beer selection (Penneseewasee Ale, Shed Mountain Ale, etc). Friendly, attentive service and great food. Had the Boursin cranberry-apple chicken sandwich; it was small but absolutely delicious. We live about an hour and a half from here but will definitely be back.

We had a great lunch here today. We split the twin lobster rolls and the fish and chips - perfect for two people. Lobster tasted fresh, was light on the mayo, and the bun was toasted without butter, which I like much better than a bun smothered in butter like most places. This fish and chips were fresh and lightly battered. Also, the ambiance is pleasant and the bartender friendly.

My wife and I spent the weekend in Naples for the Blues festival. The food in Naples was sorely disappointing. and after 3 days we felt pretty poorly about all the greasy, bland, vapid food we consumed so far. A local said to go to Bridgton to avoid the festival traffic. We took a chance on this place and it was by far the best choice we made the whole weekend. I had the Shepherds Pie Crepe, and my wife had the Autumn Chicken. Not just the best food we had all weekend but a couple of the best meals we've had out. The salad we got before our meal was hearty, and they don't skimp on the vegetables. our server was attentive and friendly and our food came out just as we ordered it cooked to perfection. The steamed vegetables that came with my meal were exceptional. I know it may seem hard to think about really good steamed vegetables, but they delivered. I ate the zucchini, and I usually cant stand zucchini. I would recommend this place to anyone. and when we come back for the festival next year we will definitely be visiting.

One of the best places in the area. Interesting menu with good specials, excellent service, and good beer and wine selection. Our regular place for solid food.

We spent mother's day 2010 here. Their bloody Mary is killer! I had the eggs benedict, portobello mushroom, prociutto, sun-dried tomato special. Mom had the fish chowder - she rated it better than Legal Seafood. Dad's Parmesan encrusted haddock was excellent , "better than anything I've had in Boston". Criticism: no Children's choices, so full priced pancake plate for junior, he ate 1/3 of it, and no kiddie cup, a nice big glass glass (yikes!). Still nice atmosphere though, relaxed, welcoming, yet formal enough for a date.

Stopping at the Black Horse Tavern was a great decision. We were a bit nervous about finding a good restaurant when it seemed as though much of the town looked closed but this restaurant had positive reviews on Yelp and we were not let down. The gumbo, grilled cheese, lobster roll, huevos rancheros, and haddock were all excellent as was the service.

After receiving a gift certificate we went on a Saturday night. Slow service, in fact it took so long for the main courses to arrive, we nearly left. Waitress never asked to refill our drinks..we did want another glass of wine, but waitress was too busy talking with other people. Talking, not serving. She actually looked away as she passed our table.Dull food, bad service. Waste of time.

The Black Horse Tavern is a wonderful restaurant. The menu is incredible, the waitstaff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, the food is cooked to specification, and the drinks are A+. If you are in Bridgton and want a great meal, great service, and a tap into the local scene, The Black Horse Tavern is your destination.

Just recently had the MOST Amazing Mother's Day Brunch at the Black Horse Tavern! I am an Eggs Benedict junky and the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict was wonderful-truly one of the best I have ever had! The service as pleasant as could be, as well! It all made for a great Mother's Day. Good thing we got there as soon as the doors opened-within minutes the place was almost full-and I can see why! Definitely going back next year!

Went here with my wife and daughter just before closing time on a Tuesday night after being turned away at the Campfire Grill. We were the only customers in the dining room. The service was awesome. My wife and daughter both ordered the steak and both said it was the best steak they had in quite a while. I got an order of the smoked teriyaki chicken wings and the Cajun burger and both were excellent. We will definitely be back. The decor could use some updating, but all else was excellent!

WICKED AWESOME! The food, service and everything else was great! I had the salmon salad, dried pears, pistaschoes, red onions on mesculin greens. It was served with a blueberry vinegrette. They had two delicious bottles wine. and the waitress was so kind and just the right amount of attentiveness.

First off food was the best part about this place. Above average food at decent price. The biggest problem was the atmosphere and cleanliness. I felt like I was in an Apple Bees in the 70's. Floor was extremely dirty as was our waitress. All that said, if your hungry in this area and need good food. This isn't a bad option.

Stopped here on the way to Oxford. Only had a couple of drinks at the bar because we had already eaten. Wish I hadn't eaten....the food served to others around me looked so yummy and plentiful. The bartender, "Peter" was one of the best I've ever seen. He was prompt and friendly, and boy does he make good drinks. He has a personality that makes you feel welcomed even when you're an out of stater. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
