My wife and I went here per a local rec combined with looking at Yelp. The place is pretty boring inside but not a bad a setup and still good for kids. The clientele is varied but one thing that really irked me was a patron talking about how he hates Canadians loudly because I was wearing a Montreal Canadians t-shirt. First off, I'm not Canadian, second, it's a sports team, get over it. So with that behind me, the buffalo burger was highly recommended but not very good. It tasted burned and didn't have much flavor. My wife had fish and chips and it was much better. I had a few beers which were tasty if a little over priced. I'm not sure I would go back but I won't be in the area again most likely but there are probably better choices.

We really like this place and try to stop by whenever we are in the area. The wings and pizza are great!!! Great selection of beer too. It's a fun casual place but may get crowded with skiers in the evening. Definitely worth the wait though.

I loved this hole in the wall! Believe it or not it was too icy to ski so we wandered around town until we stumbled into Suds Pub for lunch. They have a few TVs which is great for the man to watch the game and they had a pretty basic but enough to make us happy menu - along with a wall full of beers on tap! 29 beers on tap to be exact! The bar food was good and the chef salad that I got was very good! When back in the area I will def swing by this place again.

I can see that this place would be very popular and busy during high season, but at this time of year we were the only people in it. And this was the only game in town other than the Chinese restaurant or pizza. We weren't sure what we were walking into when we went down the stairs to the basement, but inside there's a large space with a central island bar that you can sit round. The barman was very friendly and chatty, and he produced our fish & chips in short order. He had explained that the fish wasn't in fillets like we would be used to, but instead came in nuggets. Nonetheless, they were still fresh and pretty tasty. If I lived here, this would definitely be a good choice of pub to have as my local.

Ok folks. Waitress was extremely nice friendly and talkative. Decent beer selection including a gluten free beer. Here is where things start to diverge. Ordered wings for app. They were ok but we have had meatier. Perhaps that is why they gave us 8 instead of the 6 as indicated on menu. Other than that they were tasty but no carrot or celery sticks on side Now to the food. I ordered the Blarney Burger and wife had Bison Burger. We both ordered medium rare. Mine was on thin side and ended up as medium. Hers was thicker and was medium rare so maybe they need to make the speciality burgers thicker to get medium rare????

Great little place on Main St. in Bethel. Definitely a sports bar feel... and the food was excellent ! I ordered a lobster roll and it was top notch (and I've tried many in Maine). We went back a second night to take out a pizza, and they were a little backed up but the pizza was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend if you want something casual.

Complete shock when we walked into this place. Everything else in town was closed. We walked up and it looked like a hole in the wall bar. Once we walked down we were quite surprised that it was a large room with a good crowd and live music. They had an excellent craft beer menu including switchback (favorite beer ever, from Vermont). The food was also excellent. I had steak tips with onions, peppers and mushrooms. Cooked great and very flavorful. Girlfriend had a burrito that she said was also excellent. We had a very nice waitress. Did I mention that we received this great service at 10pm? Highly recommend for anybody in bethel or at Sunday River.

Great food and awesome staff! Burger and pizza is a great go to! Along with the food came great conversation with the staff/bartender. Always a stop on the list when in Bethel, ME.

Parking is in the back. Food is good and clean (no junk added, no grease). Went there for lunch with my husband and 2 young kids. The kids shared a fish and chip. The fish was breaded and flavored (not the usual battered fish which was expected but still good). The French fries were not good. They taste like the frozen kind you buy in the grocery store freezer. I had the chicken quesadilla. It was decent and came with nacho chips, salsa and as our cream. My husband had the bison burger, it was good. Nothing special but decent, non-greasy food and the waitress was very nice. No warm welcome when you walk in though...no hostess and I'm still unsure if you are to seat yourself or not. It takes several minutes for the staff to take notice of new customers. The fountain soda tastes like brown water and undrinkable.

When I first entered the restaurant I waited at the entrance for awhile before a waitress told me and my family we could sit where we wanted, even though it was rather crowded and there was only one or two options for seats. We then ordered drinks and appetizers which were both up to par. Shorty after we ordered our entrees, although they were busy the entrees took a little longer than usual. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was described as a heaping pile of pulled pork with barbecue sauce on a beefy bun, unfortunately I would soon find out I was lied to. After our entrees arrived I immediately noticed that the so called "heaping pile" of pulled pork was actually a very small portion. Not only that but the bun was a thin and rather soggy burger bun. And the fries that came with the sandwich were bland and tasted as if they were frozen and heated up. After quickly finishing the sandwich we had to wait ten to twenty minutes for the waitress to come back. Even though we watched her walk past us and serve the table next to us numerous times. So overall not impressed at all by the food or service of this restaurant. Two stars.

Stopped by Sud's while passing through Bethel on the way home after a weekend of camping. The place was cozy, and perfect for a quick meal before getting back on the road. I ordered a salad and received a HUGE dish - enough for me to share with my boyfriend in exchange for some of his fish and chips. The fish had an interesting breading, very flavorful. They had a small stage, I would imagine they cater to local music acts. It probably gets more crowded in the evenings. Our server - I think his name was Eric - was very nice.

Love this place will go back every year when in area. Pizza is great, beer choices are awesome! Dive atmosphere is fun.

We had lunch at Sud's one day when it was too windy to ski. It has a nice cozy atmosphere with picnic tables for the large groups. I had the bison burger and boy was it tasty. I was worried that it might be dry since bison is lean, but it was very moist and delicious and cooked just right at medium rare. The fries that came with it were really good too. I also got to try some of the pizza. It was good too, but if I go back, I will be getting another bison burger!

We visited on a recent Sunday evening in late July. While the place was mostly empty, it still retained a lively convivial atmosphere. Yes it's a basement but it feels cozy and I imagine more so in ski season. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our conversation with the attentive bartender and some of the local patrons. Since we had a big lunch, we ordered some bar food snacks to share. The clam chowder was solid and the nachos el grande were satisfying and well prepared - homemade crispy chips, toppings layered for even distribution, none of the dreaded nacho sogginess. As it was a fun time we returned the following evening for a brownie sundae after having dinner elsewhere. Great place for casual drinks and snacks after a long day hiking.

Very nice bar with a great vibe, attentive service and a nice pub menu. The veggie burger with sweet potato fries was terrific. They make a very generous salad with some surprising fresh ingredients given that it is February, 17 degrees and is located in the boonies. The pour a bit of a thin scotch which is really the only area they need to improve.

Perfect local/local spot... watched the football game, ate at the bar, good menu as well as a good beer & wine selection I had the bison burger & a stout - very good! BF had the fish & chips... he should've had a burger...

Came up here with my best friend a few times during ski season and we'd always haunt Suds at least once per visit, often twice. The food is good and satisfying and they have local singer-songwriters performing live every now and then. The pub is very ski-town decorated, with pictures and old pairs of skiis and neon signs for ambiance. It's fun, affordable, and easily a local's favorite place to eat in town.

Never heard of Sud's Pub? Oh, y'know, it's only: A) One of the most relaxed, casual atmospheres to eat and drink a beer with locals after a day at Sunday River shredding up the mountain without a seriously high-maintenance younger crowd causing drama or buzzing around senselessly. B) THE BEST open mic night in the entire state of Maine. An ex-boyfriend introduced me to Sud's - an unassuming pub with low-lighting located down a flight of stairs under The Sudbury Inn (suited more for the buttoned-up, fine-dining kinda folk). He was trying to get me to play my guitar and sing in front of more people and thought I might find the courage to do so far away from anyone I might know. While I didn't work up the courage to play that night, he and Denny Breau - who runs the Open Mic here - did. As did many other extremely gifted musicians from bluegrass bands to singer/songwriters. Truth be told, every time I've ever come to Sud's to play (which I never have, by the way), the entire night is always filled with exceptional performance after exceptional performance. One forgets that they're at an Open Mic night in Bethel, ME! As far as the food... it's pretty standard pub fare, but it always seems so wonderfully executed in my opinion. Some of my favorites over the years include: The onion rings - deliciously fried and abundantly flavorful. The nachos el grande - the chips are housemade and smothered in cheese, spicy refried beans (which - last time I knew [because I once had them check the label for me] were lard-free; yay!), and a bounty of fresh veg. The BBQ chicken pizza - hands down the best thing on their menu; the staff is also super accommodating about adding or subtracting certain toppings! The crème brûlée - with it's perfectly caramelized topping, and creamy interior, there's no finer or unexpected way to end a meal (or use as an excuse to not go on stage!) at a pub. Oh, and did I mention that Allagash White is only $4.75 (only making it one of the best deals in the state!) here?! This is my go-to locale when I'm in the area. And, hey, if you're looking for a place to play your mandolin or the song you just wrote about your ex in a non-intimidating space (or without all the exclusivity and arrogance the bigger cities in the state of Maine have about music), definitely come to Sud's. Just don't expect to see me playing! Yet ;)

Stumbled upon this great little place during a break from Sunday River. Nothing quite like chili, pulled pork and a great local beer after three days of skiing.

Honestly I don't understand all the hype of this place, but it was good enough for a quick bite. Actually, it took a while to get service even though the place was only about 30% full. Staff were alright but not the friendliest. Food was okay... We had lobster artichoke dip which tasted like a stick of cream cheese with some fishy pieces. My salad was yummy, but the burger and fries my husband got were pretty boring. Great selection of beers on tap though and good music.

This is a low-key and casual pub downstairs from the fancier Sudbury Inn which operates a more upscale restaurant on the street level. It opens for business at 4pm and is right on Main Street in the heart of Bethel. One of the reasons we like Suds Pub is that it seems to draw a nice mix of people -- year round residents, weekenders who own vacation property nearby as well as visitors and tourists staying in nearby Inns or skiiing at Sunday River. The groups all seem to mix freely around the bar. Staff has been great in our experience and there are at least a dozen beers on tap as well as a healthy bottle selection. Food selection is above-average-quality pub fare at reasonable prices. Seeing people order pizza and pasta dishes for takeout is pretty common.

I'd recommend Suds: the bison burger was delicious. Medium rare and lean, lean quality red meat. And last night I tried the $5 one-topping pizza (Tuesday night special) - awesome! Great beer selection on tap. Service can be casual, so if you're in a hurry, you might want to try somewhere else.

There were some HARD pluses and minuses for this place. PLUS- awesome live music, really friendly/fun atmosphere, nice beer selection ($4 on tap), delicious mussels appetizer ($11) CONS- pretty dang greasy food, undercooked burger ($10) I would definitely come here again. Especially on a weekend night with the live music... great little pub.

Have been stoping by this pace for years whenever I am in town. Great pizza and good food, atmosphere and service! A lovely small town pub which is frequented by locals and tourists alike. Have been in both winter and summer and is far busier in the winter however on Tuesdays ($5 one topping small pizza night) it is hopping even during the summer months! Lots of TV with sports games on all the time.

My favorite apres-ski place near Sunday River. It's a bit off the radar for most tourists since its tough to find (it's located in a basement), but once you find this rustic little place you'll probably love it. Great burgers and lots of draft beers.

The wood fired pizza is unbelievable. Being from Jersey, I was very skeptical of ordering pizza in Maine. I must say I was happy I did. As a thicker crust kinda girl, their pizza crust is insane! It's crunchy on the outside, but the inside is soft and doughy. The bottom crust is perfectly crispy. I recommend getting there early, so you can sit at the bar and have a beer while you wait... great selections!

My bf and I tried the steak & cheese and chicken parm and were pleasantly surprised. Tasted great and a nice environment.

Sud's pub for lunch is definitely a place that's quiet and has a very chillaxed ambience. The service is prompt. Had a glass of Remy Martin from the bar and my friend had a cup of coffee with Kahlua and whipped cream, which also tasted nice! The wings with volcanic sauce is yes, pretty hot!! The blackened salmon was alright but the accompanying rice was pretty good. A recommended item from the menu is the bison burger! Would give it an 8/10!!

This was one of our favorite places to eat and drink while in Bethel. We must have gone there about half the nights we in town. The bar and wait staff were great. The pizzas were some of my favorites anywhere. Everything I ordered was delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is very casual and the locals were friendly and fun to talk to. I highly recommend.

Great wings and lobstah artichoke dip; mediocre pizza (heavy on cheese (90%), light on toppings (10%)...)

Basement pub with skylights, good beers on tap, fantastic pizza and always a band at night. One of my favorite places to grab a bite n beer in Bethel!

This place is a blast especially on Thursdays when they have "Hoot night" (local bands), cool grotto feel, or like a NY basement bar. The pizza was actually decent and this is Maine!

Best apres-ski place in Bethel. Shares some menu components as its fancier and more expensive upstairs restaurant The Sudbury Inn. Stick to basics on menu (pizza, sandwichs, burgers...) and you'll be fine. Great selection of beers and cozy local atmosphere.

I am completely confused by all te good reviews , I'm sure some people have a good experience but my personal experience was nothing less than terrible. For starters you venture down a dark staircase to the basement smells like a basement and looks like a basement bar. Ok it's rustic I'm down with dive bars expecting hey the foods probably awesome. Well it takes a while for our waiter to make it over another server takes care of a much newer party than us. Finally our sever comes over and stands at the head of the table and says nothing we say hi he says hi we order everything because this is truly a awkward encounter they write it down with no other words and leaves. I prefer a server not to talk to much but one word wow! We get our appetizers there not great but not terrible. The server never comes over to check on us. After we initially ordered we considered leaving but we still thought maybe the food would be good. Well our meals come correction half our meals one was a cheese pizza which the kitchen messed up on and put chicken on it. The server doesn't bring it out but asks if I like chicken . I do but not on my cheese pizza. Asks if I want something else . Nope I'm done at this point we ask for the check which gets brought over to us quicker than anything else. We get offered a box for mussels! Gross no were good and rather than a apology or anything we get weird noises and the server throws there hands up and walks away. By far the worst service I have ever had! What we got to try for food wasn't anything to write home about. Save yourself this is probably strictly a locals place and visitors to this town are clearly not welcome!

Great pizza. Lots of toppings. Good beer selection. I think it's Friday night s they have open mic which is fun to listen and watch. I always thought it interesting that the bar is actually seated lower than the tables around it. Usually you'd see this to be the opposite. Just a side note. Come in to eat and drink you'll be happy you did.

Bethel is a quaint New England town with something to explore any season. But when your day's adventure is over and you're hunkering for some hearty grub and a good beer selection without a drive there is only one place worth heading; Suds Pub. Below the Sudbury Inn you'll find a comfortable space where locals and tourists alike mingle. There are 20+ beers on tap with a heavy weighting on the local offerings. The menu is longer and better than average pub fare. The salads and pizza's are great. And best of all the prices are moderate and the staff solicitous.

We rented out the basement of Sud's Pub and had a huge party there. We had an incredible time and are very grateful to Sud's for making it possible. The best part is the atmosphere. It's a very calm and quaint pub, the kind I can imagine drinking at all the time. The people were just as friendly as everyone else I met in Maine. We had some of the best bartenders ever. The quaint pub vibe can turn boisterous quick with the karaoke and stage set up they had. The food is pretty good. We had burgers, nachos, pizzas, and so forth. Everyone seemed to agree that the food was pretty good but not unbelievable. The great aspects of this bar revolve around the drinks, the atmosphere, and the people. Respect.

Good pub spot. Crowded on a Friday night, but a friendly hostess and waitress. Live music started at 7:30pm; solo blues guitarist/one-man-band, so not too loud (we had the kids with us). Wife and shared mussels appetizer, and they were definitely good, although not unique in any way; solid execution of a dish you can get in lots of places. I will say that the two rolls served with the mussels were outstanding, hot fresh, almost like a popover. Mmm. We weren't too hungry, so the wife had the French Onion Soup and I had the Chili. Both were quite tasty. Kids cheese quesadilla with refried beans was definitely better than the average kids meal. I'd certainly go back to Suds Pub next time I'm skiing at Sunday River.

I went there last time on my trip to Sunday River. It was a short walk from where I stayed in town. Walking in, it's a casual feeling, decorated with various ski posters throughout the years. The dish that really amazed me was the mussels. They're made in a garlic-y lemon-y sauce that was something I could just drink by itself and I pretty much did after the mussels were gone. I will def order this dish again. For the rest of our meal, I had the french onion soup and the bison burger. The both were good, but I gotta say my favorite was the mussels and specifically the sauce it was made in. Our server was nice, and there wasn't a long wait for the dishes. We did go kind of early and it was a Friday night, so I suspect it would be busier on Saturdays.

We stopped in here with our two young kids early on a Sunday night in October. The food was yummy, service was great and it had a nice vibe. We were there early, so wasn't too full, and there was no music. Burger was yummy, my daughters was very happy with their quesadilla and fish. My salad could have be a little fresher, but all in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
