We look forward to breakfast here every time we are in Bethel! The food is great, I think we have tried everything on the menu at least once. Usual order.....long road breakfast & eggs benedict. The home made bread is awesome, be sure to take some home! Atmosphere is what you would expect for a Maine diner, and what we look forward to. The kids love to sit at the counter and watch their food being prepared. Their favorite....chocolate chip pancakes. Prices are more than reasonable. We come in all seasons and have never been disappointed!

I didn't actually eat at this restaurant, however I was planning on it. After 5 minutes of having no one acknowledge my presence and also after seeing the level of cleanliness of the restaurant I decided to walk out. Salt spilled all over the ground in heaps, huge crumbs of food all over the bar counter, every spot that didn't have anyone sitting at it was dirty and the entire restaurant looked as if it hadn't been cleaned it days. Would have waited it out for the service, but this place was gross.

Great for Bethel! If your want a quality breakfast at a even better price this is your place. One warning, if you get there and it is busy it can be a long wait but doubt worth the wait. One of my favorite places to go when in town. Highly recommend it.

I was in the mood for a greasy Maine breakfast. SCORE!!! We sat at the bar. The chef does handle food with his bare hands, however, I also saw him washing his hands and another cook also washed his hands before he started helping the chef cook. Something I loved about this place: Neither my husband nor I looked at a menu. We didn't have to. We knew what we wanted and we ordered it, got it, and ate it. There was no, "Oh, you can't have this with that, it's extra." It was, "ok, got it." I had a cheese omelet with hash browns. My husband had two eggs (cooked right) and home fries with toast. The bread was home made and very good! The hash brown was cooked to perfection. My mouth is actually watering right now just thinking about it. The omelet was pretty good too. Overall, it was a great meal. The place was quite busy and the waitstaff was very diner-esque (ie: down to business, to the point, no bs). I loved it. Great food, great environment. The chef even talked to me a few times while he was cooking. I may have told him that I wanted to marry him... oops. :-)

Excellent food and great prices. Has the feel of an old diner so don't expect new and flashy.

Food could be good, wouldn't know. Customer service was SO bad on a slow Thursday night. Brutal. Get your pizza at Suds Pub instead!

Almost an hour for 3 breakfast sandwiches to go and when we opened them in their styrofoam container they were so "wet" the english muffin litterally crumbled into mush. (PS the wait was so long because they gave our order to someone else - bet they were surprised). Very dirty inside and on "patio." Don't bother.

Its a typical breakfast place with average food. I had a simple 2 eggs over easy, home fries, and a couple of slices of toast. We ate right in front of the grill and watched the food being prepared. At the first sight of the cook grabbing food with his bare hands made me a little queesy but you have to accept what this diner is. Its not fancy or overly priced. Its just about the food and I did leave having enough to eat at the right price.

Terrible experience here. I left here mad because of the customer service. It was one waitress so I can't speak for them all. She was older and miserable. I was in Maine for the weekend with some girlfriends and decided to get breakfast. This was the only breakfast place in the area so we chose it. First, we came in and were not acknowledged. Waited 10 minutes for a waitress to come over. Someone else came in and had menus and drinks before we were acknowledged. I don't know if they have an issue with young girls or what but we were treated terribly. She took our drinks order and didn't give us menus. When she brought back our drinks she rudely said "put your phones away girls" which we were using to see if their was a menu online because she hadn't given us one and breakfast was about to be over because she was taking so long. Even if we weren't my waitress shouldn't be telling me I can't use my cell phone. Why do you guys have wifi then? So we asked for menus and she gave us a look for it when she was the one to forget. Time came to order and she told us breakfast was over which it wouldn't have been had she been more time efficient. So we all had to choose something else which wasn't a problem. My friend tried ordering a salad with buffalo chicken and the waitress made that difficult making it seem like an issue. Then other friend wasn't sure what she wanted so she said to come back to her which the waitress refused and stood there and waited. She yelled at us for the order we were placing our orders in. Finally after all this rudeness we decided not to eat and told her to forget it. Which she obviously scowled at us for. Was inside for over 20 minutes and accomplished nothing. We left after only getting drinks. I've never had such a bad breakfast experience especially without even getting the food. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. Or for them to fire that waitress. Me and my friends left hungry and angry.

This small-town diner is great for a quick lunch. The chicken cobb salad was excellent and made with homemade balsamic vinegrette. Fresh, yummy ingredients that really hit the spot. The service was great and everyone is very attentive to your needs.

What kind of urban elitist tries to order a sandwich on Whole Wheat Ciabatta at a diner in Bethel, ME? OK, this idiot. But it was on the menu - emphasis on 'was' -- "It didn't sell, just kept getting moldy, so we took it off" OK, score minus one star for the reviewer, not the restaurant. But what kind of diner has such a bass-ackwards staff that it doesn't feel like a diner, and more like you have just stormed into someone's (dirty) home and they are scrambling to fix you something to eat - yeah, this place. Same place that delivered chicken salad for an ordered tuna sandwich (mayo is confusing) Same place the cook yelled out "What the hell is a Grilled CBT"? (um, the second sandwich on your menu) Same place the waitress dropped food on the floor, managed to skip over it and not get it on her shoes - and then never came back to clean it up - but another waitress did, then went immediately on to help in food preparation (no sink intervened for the customers) One star for the fact that I walked out with only tuna (chicken) salad burps and not something worse.

Great small-town diner with quirky charm. Breakfast here'll run you as little as two bucks, plus coffee. Service is friendly and a touch idiosyncratic. What else would you expect in the mountains of Maine, in a town of 2,000? So, to the first reviewer, I see his points, but get real. You walk into a place like this half expecting for menu items to be unavailable. The fun is figuring out what and why! I had breakfast here twice and enjoyed both. Their homefries are perfect and have been sitting on the grill getting slowly tender and crisp for hours. The toast is made from their amazing home-made bread. And the eggs are cooked just right. At $4 a plate for all that, it's a helluva deal. Plus, the interior is cozy (and very clean!), and I was waited on by a couple incredibly nice people, including one I'd be honored to call 'grandma'. Things are casual, sure. But, duh. I've eaten in a bunch of small-town diners, and this is among the cutest. It is what it is, and should be enjoyed for that. Perfect place for breakfast before a day on the mountain.

Hits the spot. It's not gourmet, but I've never had an experience like the previous reviewer. The people are nice, and it's reasonably priced.

Classic roadhouse style diner. Simple American dishes served fast. Big hot entrees and huge juicy burgers. Staff was super friendly. The menu is rather limited but this isn't "cuisine", it's fill-your-belly-and-get-back-on-the-road-style dining. Loved my BIG A** Burger! Best leave your pretentiousness at the door. Its all gluten, all meat, all greasy, all the time.

The service was nice although she forgot one coffee. They make their own bread which was good. The frittata was over priced for slightly overcooked dry eggs with a small sprinkling of broccoli, ham and cheese. The long road had good eggs and French toast that was only so-so but not worth the price. The oj was fresh and tasty. The coffee fair.

I went here for breakfast with my husband and 2 kids. There is no hostess, not sure if you are supposed to seat yourself. I asked a waitress and she didn't know either! Finally a man came and pointed to a seat for us. The waitress was nice. It took 40 min to receive 2 eggs over easy (I asked for sunny side up) with home fries, 1 stack of French toast and a 3 egg omelette and an as is plain bagel. I asked for whole wheat toast when I ordered, I received it 10 min after I ate. I asked for ketchup when I received my order, I never received it. The bagel tasted awful and sour...how? The French toast didn't taste as it should, maybe because there was no cinnamon. It took at least an hour for this experience to end between trying to get seated and paying the bill.

Stopped here before hiking. My wife had eggs benedict and she liked it. I had scrambled eggs and french toast. Both were a bit moist but still good. The hash browns were terrific. Service was quick and friendly. Will come back.

Here's the thing. Crossroads serves very basic dishes; breakfast foods and burgers, etc. If you can keep your expectations in check you can have a fine meal here. My husband had a burger that he said was quite good along with fries that could have used a couple of more minutes in the fryer. I had a salad which was priced a little high for the quality of ingredients, but overall just fine. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. I'm sure there are better places in the area, but if you want a quick bite and aren't looking to be wowed, this could be an OK choice.

Came here with a group of people at 12 but they stopped serving breakfast at 1130. The food was really bad. Meatloaf was gross. Fries were really soggy. Buffalo chicken salad was just a lot of lettuce, shredded cheese, and 2 chicken cutlets plopped on top. I got chicken pot pie and it was the worst chicken pot pie I've ever had. It didn't come in a pie or come with a crust: just the filling with a biscuit on the side.

I don't know how this place is open. Should've read the reviews and should've gotten up and left after it took 25 minutes to get HALF of our tables drinks (they forgot the other half). Incompetent employees, mass confusion across the wait staff at all times, rude, and horrible food. Two members of our party walked out about 30 mins into the meal--they were the smart ones. All four of our cars were in the Burger King drive thru down the road immediately after because the food was inedible. No matter how hungover, tired, or lazy you're feeling from a long weekend up at the River, do yourself a favor and keep driving!

This was a pleasant place to stop for lunch on a rainy day. We wanted hot soup, and the Crossroads had a chicken barley that hit the spot. Service was fast and cheerful. The grilled cheese I ordered was perfect, grilled slowly in butter, so the cheese was melty-licious and the bread not burnt. Prices were very good.

This was one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. We got there on a Sunday at 11:35, the place was packed, but we had no reason to think it would take 1 hour 50 minutes to get food. Even though they stopped serving breakfast at 11:30a, we were still able to order it. But this meant that burgers, chicken, steak, etc were off limits, because eggs and can't cook alongside these meats. Yet steak & eggs are available on the breakfast menu. The waitress said she "didn't know another way to explain it" to me. After 50 minutes of waiting for food, I asked the waitress when it would be out. She threw up her hands, said "who knows" and for the 3rd time snapped at us that she had been here since 4:30am without a break. She then pointed to the 2 grills, saying how small they were and it just always takes this long. A fact she might have mentioned BEFORE we ordered and began waiting for over an hour. After the first hour passed, I asked what looked like a manager how long it would be until we got our food. He looked at me like I just insulted his wife, and then just says "I don't know." Now I'm mad. I tell him I understand they are busy, we have been waiting (along with most the other tables) for over an hour and I need some ETA on the food. Apparently we were next and 15 minutes later we had food. Some orders were wrong and the food was kind of gross. But clearly you just got what you got. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. Yes, options are limited. But there is a Dunkin Donuts and a Subway in neighboring gas stations and I promise the experience will be much more pleasant. Nevermind the fact that you won't have wasted 2 hours of your life at the Crossroads Diner.

Perhaps the best diner breakfast I have in years. I ordered a homemade corn beef hash and swiss omelet, homefries, with the home made rasin toast slathered with copious amounts a real butter. Add in a tumbler of coffee and I was put were I needed to be put for the rest of the morning. For the folks with the negative reviews... come on... it's a diner in Bethel Maine... not the Capital Grill. Great home made food at a great price. You cannot beat it.

My family and I went to this diner expecting affordable, diner food. Let me start off by saying this place was dirty. The menus at our table were all sticky, and the bathrooms were nasty. The food itself was really bad. My Reuben tasted microwaved, part of it was cold, but other parts were scorching hot. However, what really made this experience bad was getting swindled by the waitress. When we ordered our sandwiches, the waitress asked each of us "would you like French fries or onion rings?", so I ordered onion rings and the rest of my family got fries. However, little did we know the waitress was ripping us off, because French fries and onion rings cost extra. With my reuban, I got 6 onion rings, and those 6 onion rings costed me $4! This was a really bad experience, I will never go there again, and I will tell all my friends in the area to never go there.

I can't believe there are 5 star reviews for this dump. I love diners and was hoping to grab a quick lunch on a weekday at about 1pm. We walked in and no one acknowledged us, looked around at the 3-4 dirty tables but opted for 2 seats at the bar. We sat at the last two stools right in front of the grill. We sat there for 15 minutes without a nod; our presence at the bar was invisible to the girl less than one foot away. The manager at the other end of the bar did her best job not to make eye contact. We never a got a menu or even "we're busy we'll be right there". Finally I got pissed off enough to get up and leave, still without a glance from anyone. How a shithole like this stays in business is beyond me. I drove 5 minutes down the road to the Brewing company and had a great lunch with people who were glad to take my money. I wish I could review the food but I never got to try it, however, the leftover spaghetti at the dirty table behind me looked like Chef-Boy -Ardee.

Stopped by for lunch yesterday and was totally impressed. Typical Diner look and feel. Solid menu, reasonable pricing, and kid friendly. Service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy. Waitress was super friendly. Will definitely stop here again on our regular trips on Route 2.

Had never been to this area before. Found this on Yelp and it was also a recommendation from our Inn. The food was great, the service was great. I had the 4 way omelette and it was amazing. They were very accommodating to me wanting less egg than specified. Home fries were a little on the greasy side, but very tasty. Bread was nice and thick and perfectly toasted. Would definitely eat here again.
