I grew up in SoCal with all of the best Korean food imaginable. To have this quality of Korean food in Bethel Maine is truly amazing. Now, what makes it even better than SoCal is that the owner grows a lot of her own produce and even gets some of her spices and ingredients directly from Korea. Their hot stone bibimbop, and the unique twist on the curry chicken and spicy tuna is simply wonderful. Truly an authentic gem of a restaurant, nestled in the cozy town of Bethel Maine is extraordinary.

We didn't expect to find a place like Cho-Sun in Bethel where skiing, rather than dining, is our primary activity. However, now we try to eat there every time we're in town. Although the Sushi and Japanese food are fine, for me, Cho-Sun's Korean offerings are awesome. I usually get the Hot Stone Bibimbap and pour all of the hot sauce in. The food continues sizzling and cooking throughout the meal. The rice, crispy from the hot stone, is the best. My other favorite is the Beef Bulgoki. Be sure to enjoy the Kimchi, which is often served while you wait for your entree. Service is very warm and friendly. If you're in a rush, though, you may be better off at the bar.

A really lovely restaurant on Main St. in Bethel. I've eaten there twice and its been very good each time. The owner really takes special care to walk around and talk to customers. She seems to know a lot of them by name and chats with them. The food is good, as is the service. My aunt and uncle, who live near by, swear by the tempura seafood. My husband got the unagi last time and loved it. You get a choice of white rice or wasabi mashed potatoes with most entrees and the potatoes are really good. You also get small plates of picked vegetables, spicy vegetables and kimchee compliments of the chef/restaurant. I don't doubt we'll be visiting this spot every time we come back to visit my aunt and uncle.

Shocked to find any sushi in the Maine interior much less a pretty good place. Bad service (snotty waitress but you can't have everything), poor beer and wine selection. Not the best sushi but by no means the worst I've ever had. It's extremely dark in there--I almost could not see the table in front of me. I'd go back.

Tasty mandu, savory yuk gae jong by far it is the best Korean food in western Maine

Sat at the bar with the friendly bartender. Sushi was overall good, had the crunchy, spider and rainbow roll. The highlight for me was the steamed vegetable dumplings. If you're looking for something other than bar food in the area it's a good option!

Extremely over priced and the sushi was average at best. We ordered a Spider Roll and I would be amazed if a piece of crab could be found in the roll. I looked and couldn't see any. Our server was friendly but, for a night in which most of the restaurant was empty, our orders took an extremely long time to come out.

Hugely disappointed. Anybody looking for sushi, who knows what they are ordering, will be upset. Fish was previously frozen and very bland. Skip this place.

Very nice dinner at Cho-Sun. Passed through the front dining room which seemed very austere to the back bar area which was more convinial. A couple of glasses of Pinot Noir and the shrimp bibimbap was the perfect après ski dinner.

Oh boy. Completely different dishes and quite disappointing. Dolsot Bibimbap had no meat and veggies were day old. Don't think we'll be back.

I was looking forward to dining here on a Sat evening 7pm high dinner time. There ware only two tables occupied. And for some reason, they were staring at me strangely. I was dressed nicely. I waited 10 minutes at front for the hostess. She finally came after rather lengthy chat with the two tables and informed me that they are full for the evening. I replied stating there there was at least 80% of table unoccupied. She replied back that they will not be able to accommodate the turn over. Really? At 7pm Sat night high dinner time and only two tables occupied. I cannot explained this situation other than they are racist, or the current occupants of the two tables that chatted the hostess. It's unbelievable to witness at this day in age.

After moving to bethel, my wife and I have tried twice and just can't recommend. Maybe it's because it's the off season? First time we sat outside on a beautiful evening and ordered some very good sushi rolls. Our male server was...Inattentive as best, though very nice. We waited quite a long time for service and drinks and refills. The second time was a Sunday night and we sat at the bar and we're served by the bartender Khorie. He was a super nice guy and made excellent drinks. Our curry calamari appetizer came after the sushi rolls and was undercooked. The rolls were mediocre at best. For the prices, I expect great service AND great food. Cho sun got one of two each time we tried.

The ONLY reason it's not four stars is because - it's wicked freaking expensive. I loved my bibimbap and the kimchi assortment that came out in the beginning. I really was shocked when I looked at the pricing, but since I was traveling for work, I could half heartedly justify it. I guess when there's limited options (in Bethel) and you serve a niche type of food (they have sushi as well) in a town that caters to tourists, you can charge whatever you want. But I'm sure it alienates that locals a bit. That being said - good food, fine service.

The BEST food & service experience! We enjoyed the Wed night dinner for 2, excellent food & service in a really great dining space. There's also a nice little pub in the back. This place is not to be missed! Be sure to also checkout their ramen noodle area at the Sunday River ski lodge cafeteria! Thanks Cho-Sun for a perfect dining experience!!

Surprised to find a sushi place around the bethel area. Overwhelmingly impressed from everything about the place. Food was great, even my wife who doesn't eat fish LOVED her steak entree. We will be back soon.

Nice find in Bethel Village - upscale food options in a nice setting but without a lot of pretense or attitude. We've only been once and chose Korean entrees (Bulgoki & Yuk Gae Jang) - both were excellent. We'll be back to check out the sushi bar and the Japanese meal options. Only three stars for this review since we only sampled a small part of the offerings. Will update once we go back.

Best sushi ever! I live in boston, and I find it disturbing that I find more amazing sushi up in the mountains of Maine than I do at most places around the city. Scott, the chef and owner, is a very talented sushi chef; and his wife, who also waits tables there, is very sweet. My husband and I always get the Mul Mondoo soup, which is amazing and big enough for two, with some sushi. We crave this place! Definitely a go to for us every time we are in town! (The quality of food is way better than their neighbors.) Prices are higher than your typical bar, but the money is in the quality of food. We highly recommend this place.

We went here on our vacation. I'll never come back here again. The food was delicious, but I dislike the customer service. I went with my husband, 4 year old son, & 7 month old daughter. 1) The waitress didn't give us our utensils & gave us only 2 cups of water. 2) She didn't come by our table to ask if we needed anything, but she was very accomodating to other tables. It was difficult to get her attention.

My family and I summer in Maine And found this very good Asian restaurant in the small town of bethel! Being avid Chinese food fans and not finding any good ones we decided to eat here. The place is very well decorated, nice music and ambiance and the found was surprisingly delicious! They bring you out complimentary starters ( which were a little spicy) miso soup ( skip it) and then the main courses , we had garlic steak ( delicious) duck in mango sauce( ok) and terriaki chicken( good). We also tried some special rice combo that was great! Service and food overall a great experience we will be back!

Goddamn it's good! We have a place at SR and go up quite often all year round. We always make sure to hit our favorite restaurant in Bethel...Cho-Sun! The bibimbap, garlic steak, bulgoki and spicy tuna roll are our favorites. Seriously very good food and when you add the fact that we are in the mountains of Maine it's a bit shocking. The owner is Korean and works hard to make everyone feel welcome. Her son is the chef and sends some amazing food out of that kitchen. We get the bibimbap at a place in Stoneham at home and it doesn't compare to Cho-Sun.

Fantastic meal! Garlic steak, spicy pork, salmon tataki.....5 stars, what more can I say. To have this place in Bethel Maine is just so great. Truly authentic in every sense of the word.

When I was up here I stopped by this place, I had seen it a few times and was highly recommended. I went there and was pleasantly suprised, the restaurant was very classy. I started out with the spring rolls as an app, and had the hot stone bibimbap. This was my first time eating Korean so I just looked for the most random thing. The hot stone bibimbap came in a super hot bowl with rice on the bottom, vegetables and steak on top with an egg. You are suppose to mix everything together and add hot sauce to desired temp. It was good and very light. The chef then came out and I talked with him and he offered up a Korean Spicy Tuna roll, which was awesome as well. The sushi was very fresh and as good as any Japanease place I have eaten at. Lastly they served up some green tea ice cream which was pretty standard. The place was awesome and I will definately be back.

Shut the front door! What is this place doing in Bethel??? Okay, Bethel is cute and charming and small. This place is from another dimension that doesn't include the backwoods of Maine. When you walk in the door you are immediately immersed in a setting featuring warm wood tones, bamboo plants, low lights, exquisite Asian furniture, beautiful art and cultural artifacts. There is so much take in, and you haven't even sat down. Our waitress, Sheila, was super attentive, even though she was the only one working and had to tend bar in the back. Poksun, the owner, made the rounds and seemed to know the locals. She told us her story of falling in love with Maine over Florida. And her son, Scott, the chef and manager was great. Not only is his food outstanding, but he was so nice and willing to lend a hand with service. I'm gushing a bit, but I really loved my dumpling soup and my boyfriend really liked his sushi. The dessert, a blackberry/mango spring roll, was different and delicious. We will definitely go back.

Outstanding. My wife and I were there over summer 2010 and each found our meals really fantastic (and not "by Maine standards"). She had mango curried chicken. I had bim bim bop. Both fantastic. We had a vrey good appetizer as well, though I can't remember what. Very fairly priced, very good food.
