What a rip off! There is little to no meat in either the tacos or burritos . The guacamole was green mayonnaise with some onion. The best thing about the place is the chips. Someone please open a good Mexican restaurant in Bath! Don't waste your time here.

What a rip off. We ordered 2 burritos, one chicken, one carnitas. It was full if beans and rice with 1 oz of meat, cut up in little tiny cubes. Absolutely no salsa on the chicken and only a hot taste on the pork. A lot if money for beans and rice! Don't go!

Small, friendly and the best mexican food this side of Portland. Tacos were authentic, served with a lime wedge, and tasty. Mango Salsa is nice and hot. Burritos are filling and yummy though I think the white rice should be mexican rice, but, its his place, he can do it however he wants, I just dont think its as authentic. We plan road trips that take place near a feeding time, to include a quick stop here on the way through Bath.

This review is going to be easy. Amazing food made with fresh ingredients and authentic spices. The staff are friendly and a real treasure to the city of Bath. Don't let the size of the place fool you, huge taste for such a small place! two thumbs up for this Hacienda!

Excellent! We were so happy to find this place (thanks Yelp!). The tacos were excellent, my husband got the hottest sauce the first time and it was REALLY hot - he went for the medium for our next few visits. We tried the tacos, the quesadillas and the burritos. I am not easy to please and he is from CA and we were happy with everything we had there. The only change I would make would be if I got the veg burrito again I'd ask for less rice - it was a huge serving. Too much for me but prob fine for a big appetite. An excellent example of a small, family operated business (2 brothers).

What a great little gem in downtown Bath! It's very small and attached to another restaurant, but go on in... don't be nervous... it's delish! I had a black bean and sweet potato burrito (add extra cilantro - YES PLEASE!). The staff was friendly and happy and I got my burrito quickly. I'm glad I stopped in. Not a ton of seating, more of a grab and go place, so stop by Mateo's and get a tasty lil burrito!

We stopped here with friends on the way back to Portland. The place is quaint and the guy working was friendly but there was def the vibe of "we are closing in 15 minutes and don't care" which translated into bleh burritos with more rice than one should ever serve in a burrito, "medium-spicy" salsa that was practically flavorful-less and maybe two tablespoons of actual meat filling, a little lettuce and a tiny bit of guac and sour cream. This was pretty ridiculous for an $8 burrito and such poor quality ingredients. This place made Chipotle look like a 5 star Mexican resto and I would gladly take a local place any day. Lesson learned, don't fall for ME "authentic Mexican reviews" on yelp.

Save your money by going to Shaw's and buying a bag of rice. I ordered a burrito and it came FULL of rice. Not what I expected and not good by my standards. Update...my husband ate here yesterday and raved about how good the burrito was! He had a chicken burrito with black beans in it. There didn't appear to be any rice in his burrito. Might be worth another shot!

Writing negative reviews is a drag, so I will keep this short. I was grossly misled by the many positive reviews on here. I might have gone here on a day where they were running out of inventory, in a bad mood, or, perhaps, they just didn't like the looks of me. However, I specifically asked about the quantity of meat in the burritos and burrito bowls (as the person I was with was looking for low carb offerings) prior to ordering, and was told that they well full of meat, and not to worry. Fast forward five minutes, we had just paid more than we expected, considering the skimpy burrito bowl, and are unbagging the food at a nearby picnic table. She opens up the container and sees that it's about 50% lettuce, 40% rice, 7-8% other vegetables and 2-3% meat. Thinking that they had messed up, I opened my burrito and found the exact same ratio. Imagine, if you will, getting an order of McNuggets (sorry for that mental experience). Now, take the smallest malformed "nugget" of the bunch, and pull it apart. You now have more mass (I won't call it meat) than the meat that we each had in our meals. Considering that we specifically asked about the ratio, paid the better part of $20 for the two offerings, and believed these other Yelp reviews, this was a huge letdown. I did not give it a 1 star review because I try to be fair, and the sliver of meat that was there tasted pretty good. Albeit, the only reason I know that is because I ate it, separately from my burrito, all in one plastic spoonful, so that I COULD have a chance of actually tasting it. We actually had to stop in Wiscassit to get more lunch, as the person I was with had to toss hers from this place. Never again.

1 star for trying something different in the area. 1 star for huge portions. Average tasting food.

Solid but nothing mind-blowing, good meat and proportions (too much mushy rice though) and could use some more flavor.

Mateo's is okay, think Chipotle only not as flavorful, smaller potions, more expensive, and served by guys that always make me feel like I'm interrupting their break. It's not bad, it's just not that good either. I can't really give it only 2 stars and don't really want to give it 3 either more like 2 1/2 and I'm trying to be fair.

Loved it! Great food, nice people! I love me my burrito and they got it right on! I've spent a lot of time in Texas and I can tell you this burrito could hold its head up high and proud.

Back again for their amazing burritos - and loved every morsel. Had a pork burrito this time, adding their special sweet potato as an ingredient. AMAZING! Made while you wait, handcrafted and chock full of fresh items. This place a tiny joint but you can tell these guys love what they do and love to make really fresh, tasty food. Will be back again soon!

Good food, friendly service, and priced right. The food is made to order and the guacamole is great with chunks of avocado.

This place is amazing! The place is small b ut well worth the food. I got the carne asada taco which is awesome. If you like spicy food, get the mango habanero salsa it is phenomenal.

I've had great burritos in my travels to California and in Colorado, but Mateo's burritos are the best burritos I have ever had! Everything is made right when you order it, with fresh ingredients, by friendly guys, who take pride in their work. Seek out Mateo's the next time you are in Bath!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
