AKA Jack Russell's Steakhouse. Great casual dining. Good brew. Good food. We went on a Wednesday night and they must have assumed it would be slow because of the off season time of our visit and the day of the week. Consequently, there was only one waitress serving the whole place. She was fantastic. She waited all the tables including one very large group. Handled the bar. Seated newcomers, and I swear I wouldn't be surprized if she was the chef also. I joke that her twin had just come buy to check on us. Jennifer you are amazing!

We chose this restaurant because it was one of the places that accepted our meal vouchers from the Bar Harbor Motel (located immediately next door). This is basically a steakhouse with a brew pub. I'm not a beer drinker so I can't comment on that aspect of the restaurant. It wasn't very busy the night we were there- it was June 12 so the high season for Bar Harbor hadn't hit yet. The service was very quick and attentive. The portions were more than adequate. I enjoyed my steak very much. The prices were fair- not too high. Bottom-line- nothing special but a good place to eat a good steak dinner. Dennis

Jack Russels is terrible! I hate to say such negative things, but I've been once and will never go back. The only good thing was the pretzel (yes... one pretzel) that they gave us while we were waiting. The drinks were awful... the steak was the most fatty gross thing I've ever seen. This place has turned into a joke for us every time we drive by... "want to go there.." "oh hell no!" Sorry JR's, but it's the truth.

My visit to Jack Russell's was horrible. By far the worst meal I've had in years. The crab cakes were awful. They were dry and tasteless. The NY strip I ordered medium rare arrived well done. My friends had similar complaints with their meals. Our server was absent and what little service the table received was beyond bad. I would pass on this one.

Jack Russell's has amazing food. We got the clam chowder and the filet mignon and both were incredible. The wait staff was super nice, too.

When my friend, her aunt and I were looking for a place to have dinner, we looked through our hotel's menu selection and happened upon Jack Russell's. I'm glad we did! We went on a Saturday night, and it was surprisingly dead! Out waitress was very nice. She was new, and told us she hadn't tried anything on the menu. I can appreciate her honesty, but I probably would have lied. :) Instead of pre-meal bread, we all got a hot soft pretzel! I ordered the pork tenderloin, my friend got the NY Sirloin and her aunt got fish n' chips. She's 86 years old and they were happy to serve her the "kids menu" sized portion, I thought that was really nice of them. I loved what I ordered and my friend liked her steak too. The desserts were so-so. I got a brownie sundae and my friend got cheesecake. They were just sorta average desserts, nothing too special, but that's OK. I'm not sure if I would eat here again, because a) I was on vacation and b) there's a billion other places to try in Bar Harbor, but if you like steak, definitely try this place out!

This place was pretty bad. i ordered a steak medium rare, it was well done and hardly seasoned. if you're going to call yourself a steak house please know how to season and then cook the steak! they only had one vegetable to accompany the meal and it was....bruschetta. yes, not even by definition a vegetable but what is bread with olive oil that usually is topped w/ a tomato mixture. the version here was tomato mixed w/ basil and a crouton sitting next to it. UGH. the beer was so-so, nothing we'd go back for. the fries were so-so. the service was nice and friendly, but i got the impression our waitress almost felt sleazy working there because she could see how bad the food was. ditch the complementary frozen soft pretzel, serve a good and if need be easy vegetable, season the steaks and make sure they're being cooked to order. trying to be fancy and cute here is not working. if you are going to mount desert island i would highly recommend staying away from this one.

Aka Jack Russels, we found the food to be fantastic. Service was a Little slow from the start, but in fairness 5 different groups all came in at the same time we did. Besides the yummy pretzel, the stuffed mushroom and the clam chowder were very flavorful. I had the prime cut of steak with the crab cakes. The steak was cooked to a textbook medium and spiced perfectly. The crab cakes fell apart like they should and had plenty of crab in them. My spouse had the steak tips with the Oscar crab sauce, also cooked perfectly and delicious. I was full after the meal but could not resist taking home a piece of the blueberry pie and glad I did, I am still thinking about it. Price and service were spot on.
