My wife and I took our 15th anniversary getaway up the Maine coast. The Coach Stop Inn was easily our favorite stay. The room was very comfortable, nicely apportioned, and immaculately clean. It was Deborah, however, that made everything come together. She was so knowledgeable and helpful about Mt Desert Island. She recommended a great secluded cove to watch the sun set and sent us to several excellent restaurants. And the breakfast is an event! Hand-made, orange zest muffins; french toast stuffed with cream cheese and pistachios....oh my. If you are going to be visiting the area, look for reservations here first. You will be very glad you did.

I knew it was going to be a very good B&B, but Jim and Anna's hospitality exceeded all expectations. We did a bit of research, though not enough to know that Coach Stop is actually located a few minutes outside Bar Harbor Village. That turned out to be a nice treat for us, as it's close enough to town that you can hop in the car and drive over, but just far enough from the "hustle and bustle." Our four nights were just spot on perfect. We stayed in the Abbe Stuite, a super cozy room just off the second floor perfect for a couple, and at extremely reasonable rates. There's a claw-foot tub in the bathroom and a good-size living area as well as a comfortable bedroom, all done in a very relaxing shade of teal. Everything worked as it should, and the bathroom had both a vent system and heating fan (a luxury for the gf). The B&B is at the cutting edge, offering a Roku with Netflix, etc. if you're bringing kids and need to keep them busy. Downstairs, in the sitting room, you can relax by the fire with a cup of coffee and read a book or just mellow out, especially if you catch the well-appointed armchairs at just the right moment. The room is both homey and classy, neither too large (which can be awkward at some B&Bs) nor too small. Breakfast will be the highlight of many a visitor's stay. Jim and Anna are both amazing cooks and I was a bit surprised to learn they they were completely self taught. Their morning masterpieces were not only delicious but extremely creative and well thought-out, and often substantial enough to skip lunch and grab an early dinner. They weren't mere breakfasts but multi-course meals unto themselves, and I'd put put my four breakfasts here against any I've ever had. I'd list what we enjoyed, but I don't want to spoil the fun for future guests. Coffee and tea were available all day and different varieties of delicious cookies were available for us every evening. Gluten-free folks will appreciate the nod to them with alternatives available for both breakfast and snacks. The rooms are cleaned daily, and look immaculate when you return from a hike. The hosts themselves deserve five stars. They are friendly people with genuinely warm personalities, always ready to answer questions or offer suggestions, yet ever considerate of their guests' privacy and individual inclinations. In fact, I probably talked their ear off a bit. We've run into many other B&B hosts, but none as natural at the job as Jim and Anna. We would return in a heartbeat and, given that we fell in love with Acadia, just might.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon for about a week. Everything was very nice. The inn keepers--Jim and Anna--while new, are very good at what they do. When they found out it was our honeymoon, they suprised us with a bouquet of flowers and champagne. The little touches....the little flower left on the fresh towels every morning, the chocolates left by the bed side every day...were fantastic. Breakfast was great; not once in the time that we stayed there did they repeat meals. The food left me filled and ready for a good hike but not overly stuffed and sleepy. The room itself was perfect. We were slightly nervouse when booking the Abbe suite online because it appeared to be a bit cramped but the opposite is true. The space is actually very roomy and super comfortable; after spending the past month busy wedding planning, my husband and I actually spent a good bit of time relaxing in our suite. The room was equipted with everything...fridge/freezer, headphones, netflicks and hulu, a hair dryer and lots of other things to make you feel at home.

My wife and I spent four nights here on our honeymoon back in July. We absolutely loved it! The location was easy to get to and close enough to town that it was easy to access, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. The breakfast each day was amazing. Each morning, there were delicious muffins, then some sort of fruit dish, then the main course. In the afternoons, there were fresh treats out (whoopie pies, chocolate chip cookies, margarita cake, and red velvet muffins) along with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cold beverages (water & soda) available all day. The inn was beautifully kept and our room (we stayed in Acadia suite) was very tastefully decorated in a modern, but beautiful way. The colors were welcoming and warming. The bed was very comfortable and the towels were delightfully soft. The innkeeper, Deborah, was so helpful and friendly. She gave us lots of good advice and made sure that our stay was everything we hoped for. We HIGHLY recommend this place!!

Now THIS is what a Maine B&B should be like. Truly a (not-so-hidden) gem. On our recent tour of coastal Maine, we had the good luck of being able to book into The Coach Stop Inn. Very reasonable rates for the Bar Harbor area. It's a bit (just a small bit) of a jog out of Bar Harbor and Acadia, but pretty negligible. Once you get to know the area, this becomes a huge advantage. There aren't enough nice things to say about this inn. We had the best time here. We booked into the Somes Sound room. Cute and private, with its own entrance. Deborah, the inn-keeper, is so warm and accommodating -- she's the best -- she takes extra special care of her guests. We had to check in late because we'd spent too much time in Freeport (I'm looking at YOU, L.L. Bean!). I called Deb around 4:30pm the day of check-in to let her know of our delay, and she was just awesome about it. Deb has a 'wicked' knack for being able to facilitate her guests' conversations and interactions. Inn-keeping is clearly in her blood. Her intimate knowledge of the surrounding area (routes to take, places to park, restaurants, park-road-construction-traffic-snarls to avoid) really came in handy (she'll take a map of the park and mark it up for you with routes to take and places to avoid, depending on construction). We loved that the inn's location is just close enough to Bar Harbor without actually being in it. Oh, and another thing? The food! The gourmet breakfast and afternoon treats are simply amazing. Deb and her staffer, Joy, are excellent chefs. Plus, they served the best coffee we had in Maine (8 O'Clock -- thanks for the turn-on, Deb!)(Sorry, DD!). And they keep the property immaculate. Joy is sweet as can be, too -- and I cannot believe she turned our overnight, overturned luggage mess into something presentable upon our return from sight-seeing). Don't forget to ask to meet Deb's dogs, Leon and Rufus (Ru). They're little charmers, too. Their parlor is open 24 hours. Warm and cozy. They have a mini-fridge with waters (Poland, natch) and sodas and (wait for it!) FIZZY WATERS! Love you, Deb, for THAT touch! There are so many personal touches here. I wanted to stay longer. If the stars align correctly, we will at some point in the future return.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home here. We unfortunately were here only for one night. When I come back to Bar Harbor this is the place we would stay. It is a few miles from Bar Harbor proper but, not a long distance. Deborah was friendly and helpful to make us feel welcomed. This is her 3rd season here. The room was very clean and the beds and linens were wonderful. Nice big towels. We had a nice patio out front to sit. Leon; Deborah's dog was so friendly and sweet. The breakfast she prepared for us was definitely perfect to get us started for the day in Acadia Park and our drive back to Portland. It was very quiet at night and lots of stars to be seen. I would stay here anytime I am in the area.

Stayed here back in August. Enjoyed our stay. Nice rustic place, well kept. The owner was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent value for Bar Harbor. The B&B is about 5 miles from town, wish it were a little closer, but no complaints!

We loved this place! Deborah, the innkeeper, is just amazing. Her inn is immaculate and comfortable without being fussy, and it still feels very much like an early 19th coach stop, especially in the older part of the inn. Our room was in what had been a stable block behind the original inn, and was well appointed with a comfortable bed, good lighting, a nice sofa for reading, and TWO luggage racks (the only place we stayed on this trip that had a place to put both of our suitcases). Deborah gave us great directions to visit a lighthouse on the southern tip of Mount Desert Island to see the sunset that evening, good advice on restaurants in Bar Harbor, and a good (and scenic) route to get to a lovely small beach on our way out the next morning. It was so unseasonably warm we had dinner at a sidewalk cafe in Bar Harbor the first night and it was 70 degrees at 8 pm - in October!! That night my husband and I stargazed from the little patio in front of our room, and as the Coach Stop Inn is very near the Acadia "dark park", the clear night sky was dazzling - the Milky Way like a river of light, and so many stars it was hard to find familiar constellations. Breakfast the next morning was just as terrific - all home made, with warm lemon-blueberry muffins, a tropical smoothie, and Eggs Peloponnese. The menu card even included a weather report for the day! Deborah was so nice, too - attentive to her guests and a great help to new visitors to this beautiful island. I would definitely stay here again!

My Husband and I stayed here for one short night in November/08. We only wish our visit could have been longer! I'll break this review up in categories, so it's easier to follow. THE INNKEEPERS: We were warmly greeted by Natalie upon walking in. We met Jeff a bit later, but did not see him much after. He was very friendly as well. When you talk to Natalie, you will understand more and more how artistic and talented she is in many areas. She has painted a few of the pictures you will see in the common areas, and her cooking is absolutely superb. We would also like to applaud Jeff and Natalie for running a professional B&B while still raising a 1 1/2 year old child successfully. Their baby, Jack, was very sweet and polite! Jeff and Natalie manage to take care of him while still focusing 100% on their guests and their needs. This is a talent in itself! THE ROOM:We stayed in the Tavern suite. It was very large! The fireplace was a nice welcome from the cold. The room was positively spotless. We couldn't even find one hair in the corner of the bathroom! The towels were fresh and smelled great. There was a nice basket with their own brand of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. They made our hair smell great! We also appreciated the refrigerator in the room. The temperature was just perfect all night. We never were cold or hot. THE FOOD: We were welcomed by a fresh baked apple pie upon our arrival. There is always a plentiful assortment of coffees, teas, sodas, and water. The breakfast was out of this world. We started out with fresh juices and coffee. The first course was their famous blueberry fritters w/ fresh, warmed maple syrup. The second course was vanilla yogurt with a fresh raspberry swirl, along with chunks of fresh raspberries. The third course was a homemade belgian waffle with Maine berry compote and fresh whipped cream. Everything was DELECTIBLE!!! LOCATION: Close to Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. What else could you want? THE INN: Spotless, classy decor, fireplace, games available for your enjoyment, wooden floors. ALL IN ALL: We HIGHLY recommend that you stay here. We felt their winter rates were very reasonable for all that we got. We stayed at two bed and breakfasts while in Bar Harbor. The other bed and breakfast was $20 more expensive, and still paled in comparison to the Coach Stop Inn. Our room was only $85 for the night here. We could not ask for anything more. If we come back, there is no doubt that we would pick this B&B over all others.

Great B&B. It is 5 miles out of Bar Harbor on Route 3. The place is quiet, very idyllic. The owners are terribly nice, friendly and helpful. The place only has five rooms, three of which are very private rooms in the back of the B&B. The food is outstanding. Phenomenal pies and breakfast. I love this place and only wish I could visit more often.
