As part of our typical trek back home, the wife and I always stop in Bangor and we finally made it to Fiddlehead this go around. She called and made a reservation as we were driving to Bangor and we lucked out as it is a smallish restaurant. Bangor's finest firefighters were responding to an alarm in the courtyard where the usual entrance is, so they let us in a different door, straight off the street. Either way, we made our reservation time. We quickly got some waters and the owner of the place came over and talked to us about the menu and the restaurant before our server came to take our drink orders. The beer menu had several local options which was nice, but their claim to fame is their cocktail menu. The wife had a couple of those, the petal pusher and the c'est rah. She really enjoyed the petal pusher, which had a grapefruit flavor to it. On to the food options, the wife really wanted the papusas and our server recommended them, so that was easy. She also took the chèvre appetizer which was her highlight of the night. As appetizer, I went light with the smoke scallop salad, but then I was torn on the main. Our server's other recommendation was the lobster grilled cheese, but the pork belly was calling my name. Ultimately, I told her to decide between the 2 and surprise me. I was pretty confident that I was getting a good dish either way based on the descriptions. In the end, the pork belly, or should I say a huge piece of pork belly came out. The pork belly was awesome and cooked to perfection. I did see the lobster grilled cheese at another table and I can assure you that it looked great too. For dessert, we chose the homemade ice cream (vanilla and cherry) and sorbet (passion fruit/kiwi). Both choices were just the right amount. The sorbet was awesomely tart, I guess from the kiwi, good stuff. The wife almost got the chèvre appetizer again for dessert, so as I said earlier it was definitely her highlight. From start to finish, drinks, service and food were on point this evening. We would definitely return, especially since the menu changes seasonally and frequently.

I lived in Bangor for 10 years, and during that time I was a regular at The Fiddlehead. It's hard to say anything negative about the place. The staff are engaged/interested/invested/informed, and it shows in their work. Everyone takes pride in everything. Drinks are fantastic, and the food is seasonal, and executed perfectly.

If your in bangor you need to experience this place. The fiddlehead would easily be one of the best restaurants in Brooklyn or boston so I was more than willing to go there twice on my last work trip to bangor. The staff was really amazing they went out of there way to accommodate one of our party members with a food allergy and the meals were hands down incredible. I had the lamb and the burger (which was probably the best burger I've ever had, I've been contemplating this for a few weeks now and I really can't put anything above it... I'll compare it to the brindle room in Lower east side as the 2 best in the north east). One person at out table said the salmon was the best he ever had. Well in his own words "all other salmon I've ever had has been a lie"

Can't say enough good things about the Fiddlehead. The service is amazing, the food is phenomenal, and the cocktails are ridiculously good. Rotating seasonal menu of food and cocktails keeps it interesting. They use as much local meat and vegetables as possible. It's my absolute favorite place to eat in Bangor.

This place is perfection. Incredible local food. And I mean really local, even the world class vodka; the produce and eggs that come from their own farm, the salmon is farm raised (they can tell you how many times a day it is flushed w fresh water). Cocktails are creative and perfect. Wait staff attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Owners even more so. The three course meal is perfectly proportioned so you're totally satisfied but not stuffed. I'm bummed we were just passing through Bangor but delighted to have such a great meal on the road.

Exciting menu if I only knew what 1/2 the words meant. My Webster dictionary was of no use. I believe the chef probably has world exposure to fine cuisine. However the rice mushroom dish was over priced and tasteless. Minute rice has more flavor. NEXT time I would go somewhere else. The alcohol and wine list were fine. Pictures I saw on YELP did not match anything I could interpret on the menu.

The Fiddlehead is considered by most to be an oasis in the desert of Bangor's culinary scene. It features a thoughtful and seasonal menu, and a hard working - although overly solicitous - staff. The bar tender is talented and the bar well stocked. Honestly, I've had a few decent meals here but I have to give one star to take them down a peg after last night. If only because the somewhat culinarily drought-stricken local clientele tends to overrate the place. So, let me cut to the chase. The appetizers were nice. The soft egg in a tomato salsa for me, and the tuna tartar for the Mrs. The main course was a disaster. She ordered a trout that was so overcooked and dry that it sucked the saliva out of her mouth. It looked as if it had been kept on the back of the stove for a week before it was served - and tasted like it too. The sauce was nice, but otherwise inedible. My haddock dish was worse. In theory it could have been excellent:a pan seared haddock filet over a fave bean risotto. I immediately noticed that the risotto was mush. It had obviously been sitting for ages and the rice had simply turned into porridge. Worse yet, it had been unevenly reheated, part cold part lukewarm., Frankly, disgusting. The fish could have been ok, but it was dry. Not necessarily overcooked, but dry. There is only one reason that a piece of fish is dry like that; it was obviously frozen. Ugh, frozen fish and mushy cold risotto. NASTY!!! OK. So, kitchens screw up from time to time. I get it. On would expect that when your waiter checks on your table and finds out there's a problem he will correct it. No such luck. It was as if all three front of house staff were in on the fact that we were served crap, and strenuously avoided us for the rest of service. No "how is your food" no "is everything OK". Our uneaten food was whisked away with out even a "how do you do". I suppose I could have made a fuss, but one gets the impression that the headstrong staff here doesn't take criticism well. I expect I won't be welcomed there again after they read this review. I think I'll be avoiding the place in the future anyhow. It turns out that this oasis is merely a mirage..

Went here with my wife and her family while vacationing in Dedham and had an extraordinary experience. As soon as we stepped in the door we were greeted by the hostess who remembered speaking to my mother-in-law on the phone and was very pleasant. We were shown our table very quickly and met our server David who did a great job. Very polite and always asked permission to clear plates and glasses even if they were clean or empty. Would highly recommend asking for him if you stop in. He was always checking in on us to see if we needed anything and someone was always there to refill water when our glassed were getting low. Food was exceptional as well. I had the fiddlehead burger with the chicken dumplings as an appetizer and ice cream sandwich of the day for dessert. Dumplings were delicious and the burger was tasty as well. The burger comes with ground bacon, tomato, chiptole mayo sour cream, sweet corn aioli, sautéed greens, and sautéed rainbow swiss chard. All the flavors mixed together gave the burger a great taste! I would highly recommend The Fiddlehead for dinner. It is street parking but we arrived shortly before 430 on a weekday and had no problem finding a place to park. Will definitely go back again next year!

First and foremost, Wow!!! So what do I talk about first: Staff, Service, Food, Atmosphere? Staff: You start off by with the wonderfully charismatic Laura who is not only happy and kind person but knows how to make you feel at home from the start. You follow that up with Daylynn who is a wealth of knowledge as a foodie who will knows the area inside out if you're not local. Now you have Dave, the server with honesty and personality. He loves what he does and enjoys making great recommendations if you can't decide for yourself. Now if you are a cocktail or beverage person, Kees is the mixologist who knows her craft and will make you just about anything! Moscow Mule you say.....no problem! Food: Subtle complexity with great aromatics and great plating. This restaurant does take your order seriously as they will accommodate to your needs. If there is a substitution which is needs or warranted, they will gladly make it. I know for most of the chefs out there, it is the chefs creations that should take precedence as that is the order of the food world but with egos aside, they will make the change. We had the risotto with salmon cooked to perfection, tartare and kale. I honestly can't say enough about the staff, they just have such a great vibe and really like working with each other. It were as if they built the restaurant because it shows. I hope that if you are passing thru or even close to Bangor, you will make your way to this restaurant.

This is, hands down, the best restaurant in Bangor. The chef is a goddess -- she comes up with fun, creative seasonal dishes with a local emphasis, and creates burgers-- yes, burgers! -- that are enough to tempt you away from the incredible entrees. Craft cocktails are my jam, and Fiddleheads' menu had me in tears of relief after moving here from Providence (a foodie Mecca). The desserts never fail to tempt (if there's a creme brûlée, get the creme brûlée!). The cheese plates are artful and always creative. I'd tell you what to get, but the seasonal menu changes often enough (such a great feature) that my favorite thing changes with it. Despite all this, it may be the service that has me coming back again and again. They greet us like family, they accommodate us last-minute, sans reservation, and when they can't, act disappointed (they've never looked down their nose at us when we walk in on a whim; reservations are strongly recommended, though-- it's a small place!). It's our go-to place for celebrations, for a break from culinary boredom, and for when we want to impress. They've never let us down.

Four of us ate here last night. We were visiting from Tennessee and had just come from the airport. We chose this restaurant because of the reviews on Yelp. We loved it. The menu is diverse. The meals were delicious. The service was outstanding. Collectively, we had two of the Halibut (w/ a sumptuous cumin risotto/fava bean & sweet corn side, & cilantro honeydew vinaigrette), slow roasted Pork Butt (with pigeon peas & rice, bread & butter pickle & dijon demi-glace), and Tenderloin steak (with a shiitake dry rub, balsamic marinated portobello mushroom, cheddar & havarti potatoes dauphinois & demi-glace). Everything was wonderful, deliciously created and beautifully presented. The cocktails were also very unique and luscious. I had the Kees Me (hendrick's gin, strawberry puree, lemon, muddled mint & basil, & sparkling water). It was divine. The others had the Pickled Ginger (dark rum, lime, simple syrup, ginger beer, ginger kombucha & candied ginger) and it was even better. The staff was outstanding. Friendly, accommodating, anticipating our every need. My only complaint is that it is a noisy restaurant. It was packed (make sure to make reservations ahead of time) and therefore very noisy. It's in an old building and the acoustics are not good for a quiet, intimate dinner conversation. But, what was really nice, is the bartender came over to our table at one point and told us that the booth in the corner had opened up and he'd be happy to move us over there. We would have been fine to stay where we were but he was sensitive to the fact that it was noisy, so he took the initiative to move us. I thought that was fabulous. I highly recommend this restaurant. We'll be back in a couple of weeks, to fly back home, and will definitely plan one more night at this place. Thanks, guys.

So my girlfriend and I yelped this place on 7-14-15 and decided to check it out. It was everything we hoped it would be. We are big foodies in Boston and she is very particular about her food and atmosphere. The hostess/owner greeted us at the door and did everything to get us a table since we didn't have reservations. She was very down to earth and informed us where the food came from (local). They have great wine and cocktails. The food was great and looking at other peoples plates around me, I realized there were many things I could have ordered. I went with the chicken dish which had an Indian type vindaloo sauce (my favorite). My girlfriend had the burger topped with a fried egg, some other great things, and accompanied with fingerling potatoes. To make this long story short when I think of Bangor Maine my memory will probably be of this restaurant.

The service was good! Friendly staff! I ordered salmon! The underneath salad had too much dressing and salmon was alright! Nothing to die for but to enjoy! For the price of one salmon here I could easily get two of the same dish at another place in houston but then again! I will go back but maybe for appetizer :)

Service here is always amazing. They treat you like you are their favorite regular customer. I would never have expected to see such a carried menu in Bangor, ME. The meals here are never less than five-star. Bottom line: if you even think about driving thru Bangor you must stop here for a mind blowing foodie experience.

I spent a few days in Maine on a business trip and dinner at The Fiddlehead was definitely one of the highlights! From the minute we checked in for our reservation to the delicious dessert and French pressed coffee it was a top notch experience. Crab Casserole, Samon, tomato tart, shrimp, cherry tart, blueberry sorbet. Great service, fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation. Warm hospitality. A phenomenal Maine experience!

Best place to take a date to. The menu is unique enough and beautifully presented that it spark memories. Overall rustic feel with the mason jar water glasses and the corn bread with molasses as the table standard. Great place for cocktails. The menu changes (not sure of the frequency though) and sometimes the creations are a bit much from me. However they always capture my attention and I want to try something new. The fare is a fusion of Japanese, Philippine, American. If I could I would just tell the chef to cook whatever she wants and I would enjoy it.

Thanks to Yelp, we discovered The Fiddlehead on our way through Bangor. This place is a great find! It is professionally run, very efficient and friendly. It was the perfect blend of "local" (the very friendly owner/manager told us that the greens we were eating were from her garden) and sophisticated. Good cocktails too, and they will adjust them to your taste. We loved this place so much that we made sure to hit it on our way back home a few days later..... I know it is in the pricier range for Maine but for our area (Providence) it is quite reasonable, even inexpensive for the quality. The restaurant is small but spacious, you don't feel cramped or rushed.

Wonderful restaurant experience from the moment we called to make reservations, where you knew you were in good hands, to walking in the restaurant and being greeted by Laura who seated us and welcomed us with a warm smile and her list of the specials! From the starters of Tuna Tartare, to Crispy Kale w/ Smoked Trout, then main courses of Scallops on Risotto and the Salmon ... this meal was simply delicious! The ambiance was equally vibrant, thankfully non-pretentious and diverse! Looking forward to dining here again!

My 4th time I've been here in 4 months. I've been to fine dining restaurants around the world and I love the comfort of this place and how the staff treats you like the only customer. I would put this place in the top of my top 5 restaurants I have ever been to. I will be back again before I leave in a month.

A little tough to get into if you don't have a reservation, luckily I was alone and was able to sit by myself at the bar so no worries there. Great service from the bartender, and the food looked superb! I couldn't decide what to get, and I opted for something out of my usual comfort zone, though every other fiber of my being wanted to order the burger since that's what most people were getting, and it looked fabulous! I ordered the crab bake, which, though delicious, looked a little pale compared to the other dishes. I will definitely start asking for recommendations next time. Oh, try the watermelon salad!

I just ate here and couldn't have been happier with the entire experience. From the unique and delicious food, the incredibly efficient staff, to the great regulars who come here, this is clearly THE restaurant to go to when in Bangor. All of the food was expertly prepared. The tiny, slightly critical comment I had about one of the dishes, and was reluctant to bring up, was immediately responded to by Laura, the (awesome) co-owner of the restaurant, who apologized personally and profusely and took the dish off my check. The bouillabasse with monkfish, mussels, saffron, fennel, and others was insanely flavorful. I was so entertained by the staff, especially the beautiful (and tall) waitress Sarah, I stayed at the bar drinking all the way until closing and did not feel remotely unwelcome or like they wanted me to leave. The drinks are fantastic, by the way, especially the "Sar-hattan". This is a small restaurant with a big future.

DOWNGRADED TO ONE STAR!!!! It's too bad yelp doesn't allow for zero (or especially minus) star reviews, as surely I would start a trend, at this restaurant. Not in over 25 years have I walked out of a restaurant, after ordering my drinks/cocktails. During the 30 minutes we were in this restaurant, my wife and I experienced an over-controlling, manipulative and ultimately vindictive hostess/head server/manager (owner?)....so we got up from our table, paid our cocktail bill, and left. The restaurant business, and any customer service oriented industry requires the vendor to satisfy the desires of the customer, within a reasonable manner. Regrettably, the management here is ignorant, and dismissive of their customers, to their own obvious detriment. Based on yelp reviews, I selected this restaurant for dinner. We arrived at 6:30, for a 7pm reservation. Upon entry, the hostess yelled to us that we were early. We asked if that was okay, and she replied yes. As soon as she seated us at our table, now acting as the head waiter, she immediately wanted to tell us about the specials. We politely stated that we wished to order our cocktails first. She huffed at that, yet complied to our request. After perusing the cocktail menu, I ordered drinks from her, but again, before leaving to place our order with the bartender, she wanted to tell us about the specials. Again, I told her we wanted our drinks first. She again snorted, louder this time, and exclaimed "I want to tell you so I can check it off my list". She left in a huff. When she returned with our drinks, before we could even raise the glasses to our lips, she again wanted to tell us the evening specials, and "get us off her list". I again politely, but firmly said wait, and she left, and never returned. We had our drink, and though she and other waitstaff walked about the room which only had two other tables occupied, no one came over to us. Finally, after 30 minutes, we got up and paid our bill at the bar. It was so evident she was thrilled we were leaving. The sign on her hostess/reception stand perfectly imparts her attitude that she's in charge, and you will do it her way, or not at all (see accompanying photo: "please wait to be seated (yes, even at the bar)." There are many other restaurants in town that offer great food, with great attitudes, smiles and service!! See my most positive review of 11 Central!!!

Reservations are suggested, though we got in with no problem on a Thursday, late. We were greeted promptly and pleasantly, though my observation that the wheelchair lift on the staircase was HUGE was not met with a laugh. Anyway................. Our server (David) was speedy, friendly and on the numbers. He suggested and then brought several samples of wine for me to try before I settled on one. Extra cornbread and molasses? Why, of course! And deeeee-licious. Then, dinner was timed perfectly. I like that they had local ingredients with rich flavors. It was my first meal in Maine, so I can't comment on how inventive it is for the area, but for the big city I live in it was pretty good. You should definitely give them a try.

Amazing food! Great atmosphere! We love the owner Laura. It's our favorite restaurant. We love to go for every occasion and just for great food!! The cornbread and molasses are a great start. Fiddlehead fizz drink and the cucumber mint lemonade are fabulous. I've never had a bad meal. It's always fantastic!!!!

My husband and I are simply in love with The Fiddlehead Restaurant! It's our favorite restaurant that we've ever eaten at, not just in Bangor, but anywhere. The food is absolutely sublime, everything we've ever ordered has been fantastic and cooked to perfection. Mel is amazing at what she does, and the menus she puts together are spectacular. Though we only come in a few times a year, Laura remembers us, greeting us by our names. It's never been a problem if we've shown up a little early, and she always stops by our table during our meal to see how things are going. The servers always do a great job too. Friendly, prompt, and not overbearing. When we come to The Fiddlehead it's an event, we're there for a while, enjoy each course including dessert, we never feel rushed, and always feel welcomed. I love this place!

Simply excellent all around. Started off with complimentary cornbread that was so moist and delicious. The duck confit was a rich treat cooked perfectly. The servers work in teams and they do a wonderful job! Thank you fiddlehead !

Starting with the warm greeting from owner, Laura, to the enthusiastic and attentive waitstaff, to the wine offerings, to the delicious food The Fiddlehead delivers. We just arrived in Bangor for a 3 month work assignment and this is our first night out. The vibe is casual. We were dining with a mix of local and tourist guests. There is an attractive bar with seating as well. Good variety in the menu. We started with eggplant rolls and a spinach salad with an "Asian" peanut sauce followed by outstanding entrees--halibut and pork loin. As good as the food is/was, it's the attitude and enthusiasm of the owners and staff that raise the total experience. I suspect this will be our go to place for a special time. We'll be back for starters and wine or a full on feast-- this place is a winner!

I travel to Bangor on business every other month, usually only for 1 night at a time. 9 out of 10 times I come to Fiddlehead for dinner. I love the local feel and knowing that I'm getting the highest quality ingredients in my meal. In addition, the staff goes out of their way to make sure that you are happy with your experience. I recommend this restaurant to people all over New England!!

We recently took a "stay-cation" spending a week in our home state of Maine but visiting all of the places we don't usually go to. Much of the stay was centered around great food (Primo, Natalies, the White Barn Inn) but Mr H requested one night in Bangor as he wanted to visit the casino. We arrived mid-afternoon and I whiled away an hour playing roulette. The dealer (spinner?) was super nice and chatty telling me about his chicken and egg laying hobby. We got to talking about food and I mentioned I wasn't exactly stoked about eating red hot dogs in the casino snack bar. He literally made me get out my phone and call The Fiddlehead Restaurant then and there to make a reservation. It was a FREEZING cold Tuesday night in October so I was somewhat skeptical of the need to make a reservation but I was SO glad we did. One of my favorite dinners of the week! We arrived a little ahead of time and were offered a choice of a table at the window that would be just a few minutes with a drink at the bar or to be immediately seated at a different table. We chose to have a cocktail first. I had some kind of Huckleberry cocktail - SO GOOD - I'm not a fan of super sweet cocktails and this was just perfect - a tiny bit tart, little huckleberries floating. So good I had another before switching to wine with dinner. Mr H got the crepe special and it was really tasty. A generous portion of stuffed delicate crepes (would have done as an appetizer if you weren't too hungry). He followed that up with the filet which was excellent, cooked perfectly (he'd requested rare). I was feeling like I'd really over indulged over the last few days (a 9 course tasting menu at Natalies, big breakfasts, lobster rolls galore) so I really wanted something light yet delicious. I chose the mushroom soup to start with - just perfect. Light yet rich and flavorful. Weirdly I thought I'd stick to my soup theme and had some kind of lobster dumpling/ravioli in broth as my entree. Again, really delicious. The only thing I didn't love was the cornbread/molasses thing - but that's just me being a bread purist I think - give me some great warm bread, butter and a little sea salt and I'm a happy bread bunny. The casino dealer had told me to ask for Laura (the owner) so when we checked in I mentioned how we'd found the restaurant and she was really friendly as was our waitress. I'm guessing we'll end up in Hollywood Slots again (Mr H likes a little blackjack once in a while and he's refusing to go to Oxford casino as the hosts/managers are incredibly rude) and as long as we can make time for dinner at The Fiddlehead I'd be more than happy to head up to Bangor.

What a gem. This place is so lovely and the food so considered you will be able to completely relax knowing that the staff here has you covered. The food- farm to table- is exquisite without being pretentious. Every ingredient counts and is there for a reason. It is spot on from beginning to end. And the folks who work there are full of pride and kindness. They know they work at a great place and they want you to feel the same.

I took my wife there for our engagement dinner several years ago and again for our anniversary this year. Everything was fantastic. The ambiance, service, presentation and taste were amazing. Very pleased with the lovely evening. Few resturants in Bangor can compete with Fiddleheads.

Best experience I've had in a Restaurant in awhile. The service was second to none, not too mention how welcoming the owner Laura was. Took the time to tell me about the restaurant and some of her favorite dishes. The presentation and taste of the food was fantastic. Excellent atmosphere for a date or a large dining group. Really enjoyed my first experience in Bangor at the Fiddlehead.

This is my favorite place to eat in the Bangor area. The Fiddlehead has a very nice feel to it but a casual atmosphere. I am a vegan and know that their menu does not have a specific vegan entree. I called ahead when I made my reservation and they made something specifically for me. Or, I could have gone over the menu and just had something vegan instead of as described. That's not relevant to everyone, but the quality of the food is. And Fiddlehead definitely uses high quality ingredients and takes care to make those flavors come out. The first time I loved what I got I ended up ordering 5 different menu items (not entrees obviously) just to try them. It was expensive, but I was satisfied. The drinks are nice as well! There are some great options. Also the wine options are good.

Look at the ratings. You don't need my opinion with reviews like that... But I will. I like good, fresh, well put together meals that are worth their value. This is that place. You will pay a bit more but when you taste anything, drinks or food, you know you've had the best. If you are from out of town (like me) and want great food that you can get near a metropolitan area and big city, head here. Check the stats, make a resi and get excited about what you are going to taste.

Fantastic dinner and drinks. The cornbread and molasses was an awesome and unexpected treat. We shared the eggplant wrap, salad, and halibut. The wait staff were slammed and yet made us feel welcomed and special.

Went there twice during our week-long stay back home. Amazing and creative food, top-notch service and, for the quality (and for those who need it, quantity) of what you get, very reasonable. Excellent bar with some imaginative craft cocktails. We brought my dad the second time and he stopped complaining about the low (for him, not us) light level once he got his first bite. And, has late (for Bangor) hours. Amazed to find true dining in what had been the old Bangor Furniture Company store. It's a gem.

Amazing meal I had at the bar. I went early and avoided the mad rush. The wine list is every bit as amazing as people say and has a wide selection available by the glass. Also, the staff knows it well. I ordered my meal and then asked the bartender to recommend a glass to go with my meal. I excused myself and returned to my seat at the bar a few minutes later to find three tasting glasses setup for me to choose one. The bartender and wait staff had decided to make a game of picking three different glasses, two of which were stunning.

I was seriously impressed at the experience we had at The Fiddlehead. We were promptly greeted and seated by the owner even though we were a half hour early (arrived at 5pm for a 5:30 reservation) . She explained that they 'time' their reservations for the kitchen, and we'd need to wait a bit before they could start our service which made me a bit curious. We had the new fangled and fog horn cocktails - both excellent. She made a wine recommendation which we accepted - also very good! As many have noted the complimentary corn bread and molases were very good. We had the shrimp sevicie which was excellent followed by the grilled romaine salad which was also excellent. I need to work on copying that recipe! I opted for the lamb masak mara as a main course; the spice levels s and flavors were just right. A gem of a restaurant! Service: A Food : A Price: A Ambience: A

I loved the bar area it felt like I was in a cute New York City Restaurant. The food: The sweet corn bread with molasses was a great starter giving the comfort food of the south and the molasses flavor of the north. Followed by the egg plant parm. that was A-OK. not much flavor. I had the pork (a little on the dry side) they added a twist with a spicy peanut oil served along side a Japanese rice. My date had the chicken drum stick special that was cooked to perfection. Drinks: We had a bottle of wine. They have a great selection! Service: Our server was sweet and wonderful

Very amazing. Love a restaurant that sources locally! Grilled caesar salad is a must, Everything else is going to be wonderful. Also the bar menu is very impressive. They also make their own maraschino cherries, and other little tid bits. Also a great place to have a rowdy drink. Versatile, delicious, recommended.

Very impressed! Bangor has a gem here. The staff were very friendly even though it was very busy for a weeknight. The food was excellent. I had a lobster pasta and an excellent soup. I'd recommend it and I'd visit there again.

I was anticipating a great experience, but received nothing short of horrible. Had reservations for 8pm, and wasnt sat till about 8:45ish. It took the server almost half an hour to just greet our table, and not until I asked another waitress did we finally get bread and butter to munch on (the cornbread and molasses was very good). Once she did get around to taking our order, the food didnt arrive for over an hour! Thank god the pork I had was AMAZING, because the other members of my party were less then impressed with their food. Martini's were ok, beer selection was limited, the wine list impressive. Atmosphere cozy! I have worked in the restaurant biz for a long time, and I know how things may get backed up or busy, but 30 minutes to even greet your table. Very inattentive service and mediocre food. Sadly disappointed...

this is my favorite date night restaurant. Laura is very friendly as soon as you walk in the door and all the staff take great care of you from drinks to dessert (yea, save room for dessert). i love the local ingredients and the varied menu choices. you cannot go wrong with making a reservation here.

One word to describe my experience... Awesome! Absolutey fantastic service... A drink menu that is eclectic, creative and totally enoyable - reflecting the creativity of the owners - a great wine selection and a killer menu that rotates frequently. Tonight was a couple of glasses of Malbec, black bean cakes, grilled romaine, vegetable lasagne, and the chocolate torte... Laura, the owner is fabulous... A gracious host that welcomes you with a smile that makes you feel like this is the right place to be! When i'm in town this is the only place I will eat!

I grew up in Bangor but have subsequently moved away. I recently went to visit with my parents and decided to take them out to dinner. They recommended we try The Fiddlehead Restaurant because they had heard good things about it. I will admit I was skeptical. Since I moved away after high school I've lived in Washington D.C., New York City and San Diego, California. I love food and I go out to eat quite frequently. I say all of this so you have a context to understand why I LOVE this PLACE! I am now living in Portland, ME (arguably one of the best places to live for a foodee in the country) and the Fiddlehead would stack up against any of the restaurants in Portland (or any of the other cities I've lived in for that matter!). My first impression was based on the atmosphere, elegant with a comfortable homey feel (exposed brick, wood floors, nice artwork...you get the idea)...very nice. We were lucky (or my parents are older and we went there REALLY early!) we were sat immediately by the owner. Our server, Carlie was right there to take our drink order and discuss the specials with us. She was amazing, attentive without being overly intrusive! I drink a lot of water when I go out and one of my pet peeves is to have an empty water glass...never happened! The service is amazing! Now for the food; we tried the marinated, hand rolled goat cheese...absolutely delicious, it comes in a jar in (I believe) olive oil and is served with a nice crostini. I love goat cheese so this was an easy sell but I have to admit...I don't think I've ever had goat cheese this good...absolutely worth every penny! We ordered the stuffed jalapenos next and I should warn you, they are SPICY! They're served in a roasted red pepper jelly (I think they make it there...) the combination of spicy jalapenos, slightly salty manchego cheese and sweet red pepper jelly is like a symphony...spicy sweet goodness! Be advised, I have pretty high tolerance for heat and these had me sweating... if you don't like spicy food, stay away! The next flavor expedition the chef took me on was the grilled romaine salad with stilton cheese and an apple cider reduction...you got it, another GREAT combination of flavors! The slight bitterness of the grilled romaine with the sweetness (with just a hint of astringent) apple cider reduction combined PERFECTLY with the stilton cheese to make a salad that just layered the flavors on! The chef has done an amazing job of combining a fantastic combination of flavors (many of which I would not have thought of!) into a beautifully complex yet complete dish! My entree was the rib eye, perfectly cooked (medium rare, thank you very much!) and balanced with a very nice dijon mustard demi glas and a very interesting tomato and apple cider sauerkraut. Here will be my first (slightly) critical comment, the sauerkraut has a very strong flavor and there was maybe a little too much on the plate...not a real problem, I just took a small portion with each bite (so I could get the full effect of the layering of flavors) and left what I didn't eat on the plate...which was cleared promptly after I finished! I can't sing the praises of this place high enough; I can assure you that whenever I am in Bangor I WILL be eating here! Go check it out (if you haven't already done so!)

Visited again on a Wednesday night. Full. But, Laura is right on point with a seat for me at the bar after I gave her an hour's notice on the phone. You have no idea how valuable this is for a solo business traveler diner. The bartender lets me know that the ktichen was closing in half an hour without making me feel rushed. The grilled romaine salad was great. I have had this new (to me) concept elsewhere and it is very interesting. The crab cakes were very good. The lobster pasta was very good. The wine Laura put on the menu as her fav is great, Chateau de la Greffiere, sous le bois. Fabulous!! The amuse bouche of cornbread and molassses is not my bag, I have no sweet tooth, but it is excellent. I would rather have some bread for palate cleansing considering it's such great food and wine. Maybe they can cut up some sour dough and throw it on the bar?? Maybe next time. Otherwise, this place is another big reason why I wish Bangor was not so far. Bravo! Oh, and $22 for a lobster dish, under $8 for a glass of that wine. Just plain awesome. Anywhere else, especally Boston, they would be gouging by now. Not Laura.

It's possible I am a bit biased since I live right up the street from this amazing place and my boyfriend and I frequent it. My surprise 30th birthday party, a truly amazing experience, was held at The Fiddlehead. New customers and frequent customers are both treated excellently here. The service is friendly and personalized. The wine list is wonderful, and if you don't know what you want, just ask for a suggestion--they're more than willing to help you. The food is fresh, as local and possible, and tasty. I love that the menu changes every season. The Fiddlehead is by far my favorite restaurant in Bangor, and I'd be proud to bring folks from food-centric places like NYC or San Francisco here. It seats just over 40 people, so I definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation, even if it's just earlier in the day. They can usually fit you in.

It has been a while since I have been here, but that is only because I moved to Texas. This is quite possible the perfect restaurant. I remember every delicious drink and meal like it was yesterday. A great compliment to the wonderful food and drinks is the amazing service. Instead of listing of great thing about this restaurant, just take my word for it. This place is so amazing, I can't even write it all down. Laura is doing a great job with this place.

I cannot write enough good things about this place. Definitely the best restaurant in Bangor and it would be a stand out even in larger dining markets. I had the pleasure of being posted in Bangor for a five week assignment in the summer of 2012. I got one night a week to leave work for a bit and eat food that I actually liked. Because I was working mostly alone and the people with whom I interacted had no interest in eating a big meal during mid-work evening, I ate at Fiddlehead five consecutive Wednesday nights by myself. AND IT WAS AWESOME. The highlight of my week. Hands down. The service is impeccable. Friendly without being obtrusive. The wine list carefully selected and representative of a variety of tastes. And the food is fantastic. Made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, fine without being fussy, refined and filling. I am currently sated with the lobster pappardelle and a carrot curry soup that I want to try to recreate at home. I've lived years in Maryland, and the crab cakes at Fiddlehead far surpass anything I've ever had in Bawlmer (and they're served with sriracha!). Every vegetable is understood and curated to shine to its utmost. The cornbread and molasses? Ugh. Yes, please! I love this place and because of it I will attempt to return to Bangor someday for pleasure, even if it is solely gastronomic!

Amazingly fresh and delicious food. Seafood and meat is cooked perfectly with enough seasoning to make things exciting but still subtle enough that the meat is still the highlight of us dish. Relatively small seating area for the popularity of the restaurant, so make sure you make reservations, especially on he weekend. Try the black cow for dessert - it's a coffee porter beer float. Delicious!

Hands down best restaurant in Bangor, by far. One of the best places to dine at anywhere. I've anticipated coming here for awhile and I was not disappointed. The service was superb and waitresses attentive and knowledgable. They go out of the way to make sure the food was cooked to perfection to our liking. The ingredients were of highest quality and there is no doubt in its freshness. We had the steak and salmon both were cooked perfectly. The appetizers consists of choices of a blend of ethic and classics dishes, and what's great is that they make it every bit as authentic as you would taste in its respective regions. Good variety of cocktails and tasted great, desserts made fresh and ends the meal perfectly. Definitely coming back.

Very good service, creative menu and great ambience. Very kind and welcoming place (the owner personally greeted me and welcomed me in). Food slightly unrefined in its complex aspirations but with gentle aging will certainly help this delightful restaurant reach its status. Had the house salad which came out dry and the tuna which was cooked perfectly, although a bit too much sinew and while heavily crusted with sesame lacked flavor depth.

My Husband and I could not have had a more lovely experience at this restaurant. It was a Wednesday and yet they were very very busy. The service, however was spot on, and the servers just delightful. The food was delicious I had the crab cake and haddock, both perfection. My husband had a lamb dish that was out of this world. The made me a dessert that I requested that wasn't on the menu, and gave us a complimentary toast to celebrate our wedding. The thing that folks need to keep in mind is that this is a pretty small place, so you might be kindly asked to be a bit patient as we were initially. Be patient because it is so very much worth the wait.

Fiddlehead is definitely one of those restaurants that you personalize to be "your spot." The food is delectable, gourmet but also very approachable. The menu changes every few months so you can have a chance to try a variety of items. Everything is made fresh, in house with a lot of local ingredients. Aside from the food, the cocktails are a novelty. Very original, new mixes with fun names like "I'm your huckleberry" or fresh spins on classics like a smokey martini. There's also a good selection of wine and beer. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, it's a really personalized experience. There's a lot of love crafted into this little restaurant. Definitely check it out if you're in the Downtown Bangor area!

Unbelievable food! The waitresses were very attentive and knowledgeable about both the food and wine. The bagna couda appetizer was awesome! I ended up ordering the asparagus salad with crab meat and the lamb with a mint chutney that was subtle in flavor and complimented the meat perfectly. We didn't save room for dessert, but they all sounded delicious!! Overall we had a fabulous dining experience!!

It was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in a long time. We got there early and Laura (the owner/manager) made sure we had a place to rest and enjoy a couple drinks while we waited for a table to open up. Very nice selection of drinks - the unfiltered cider was great. Laura was also kind enough to suggest some of the tastiest cocktails. The molasses and corn bread started the meal perfectly - we would have been happy to just eat that all night. Then there was the baked goat cheese and dukkah appetizers. We weren't going to order two, but they were too good to pass up. A couple salads - both amazing. And then the entrees... The burger was amazing as was the steak. A few glasses of wine later, and I couldn't have asked for a better meal. Save perhaps some room for desert or some mead! I don't get up to Maine often (all 5 hours away) - but if I do, I'll be sure to stop in again.

What a nice find - thanks to you yelpers. We were fortunate to get a table as we didn't have a reservation but our timing was perfect. Very small and quaint but that's part of it's charm. Husband and wife team run the place and very attenetive along with their staff. The water seemed to be magically filled again after each sip. Nice menu choices and some good apps, along with a decent wine list made for an enjoyable dining experience.

A breath of fresh air in Bangor. I just moved to the area in May and thought all the city could serve up was an assortment of chain restaurants. Fear not because Fiddlehead exists. The drinks are good, (have the Kees Me), the service outstanding, and the food even better. I have had the BLT burger, the Chicken and Waffles and the Lobster Lasagna all which were bangin! I will be back again and again as long as my stint in Bangor lasts. Definitely make reservations!

So, I have now been here twice and feel I can give a more accurate picture. Cocktails are are delicious. I recommend the New Fangled with Makers Mark to start your journey. This goes especially well with the cornbread and molasses which will come to your table warm and wonderfully flavorful. The one thing that is constant on the menu is the Grilled Romain salad. This will change your RELIGION! The dark resin flavor is seductively romantic. The tomatoes, OH the TOMATOES! They are slow roasted and will delight the senses as they pop in your mouth they taste like fresh marinara. Now, my only qualm with FIddleheads is that the menu changes. There were things I liked better on different menus that aren't there now, but that is not due to execution. Everything is also cooked beautifully! I am absolutely wild about the fried cheese curds with spicy red pepper jelly. It was like little gooey pieces of heaven perfectly seasoned and gorgeously fried. I also recently had a delightfully cooked steak with red wine demi glaze and lobster mashed potatoes. YUM! Oooo one last thing. I love how the staff can read the table. When describing the potato soup of the night it was described as filthy which is EXACTLY how we like to hear our food is made. But it was also presented in a different manner to a different table. I think this is an important part of the experience! Staff that can tell what your in to really make the experience. They definitely take a huge risk in this but it lands on the money EVERY time!

Went Tuesday nite for dinner (2 of us) and the tables were full. Great sign for a successful restaurant. (We were able to get the last 2 seats at the bar.) Between the enthusiasm of the people working there, the use of natural materials in the design, and of course the food, it would be a mistake if you did not try it. The restaurant design was well thought out. The bar & dining room are all in one room but small enough that it feels personal/cozy. Food (focus on fresh/local/organic ingredients) & wine prices (great affordable selection) were all priced "middle range". My wife is lactose intolerant and the bartender (also took the food order) picked that up from her questions and made appropriate suggestions. (have been to many restaurants where they seem to be bothered by ingredient related questions, here it was encouraged.) We made dinner out of a mix of appetizers and shared on dinner. Next time we will try and get to the deserts. Will be back for our next trip to Bangor.

Might be the best restaurant in the Bangor region. Simple food that is made with perfection. I had the pork and it was out of this world. The cornbread with molasses is a nice pre meal app to munch on while waiting for your meal. This is a perfect place to out to before a live show. This place can easily compete with the big boy restaurants in Portland or even boston.

What a gem! Five of us headed to Orono for a show at the Collins Center and I turned to yelp- The Fiddlehead Restaurant's great ratings were well deserved. Lovely setting, fabulous drinks- food was amazing (fresh, varied menu with infusion of local ingredients). We will definitely eat there again, and would be worth the trip to Bangor just for dinner! ENJOY
