I can not say enough in this review to convey my love for this place. The food is top notch, every side dish is delicious. And it's very reasonably priced. Even the small beer selection makes me happy

Someday when I get old(er) and have nothing to do I'm going to travel south to the Mason Dixon line and find myself the best BBQ I have ever eaten. Until then im stuck with trying to find it in Maine. I actually have found some BBQ in Maine that is worthy of being called BBQ and I have reviewed those before. Most are found at roadside shacks or in the Portland area. A few weeks ago I found myself in Maine's other so called city of Bangor. When it comes to good food Bangor seems to really be lacking, but one hidden gem that I found is Moe's. And it also has the best pulled pork anywhere in Maine. Moe's Original BBQ can be found off the 1-95 on Broadway. It looks like it used to be an old drive thru fast food joint that has now been transformed into something way Moe magical. You walk in and are instantly overcome with the smell of smokey goodness. In front of you is a counter and a huge menu board advertising all the great choices including some amazing specials. Order your food at the counter and they will call you when it is ready. On this day fried chicken was the special . I haven't had fried chicken forever, so today I was determined too and thankfully they still had some available ( not so fortunate were the people behind me as I had the last three pieces...oops). There are many side options, and for mine I choose Mac and Cheese and Pulled Pork Chili. The Fried Chicken was cooked perfectly, amazingly crispy skin on the outside but still perfectly juicy on the inside. I did add just a touch of salt to mine but that was all it needed. It also was served with a Mayo based sauce on the side to dip it in. The sauce had a Roasted Red Pepper, Garlic flavor to it and I imagine it would be great to dip anything into it. I cleaned the cup of it. The Mac and Cheese was also great, homemade, creamy and not to sharp but not to mild, just right down the middle. I could see me eating a few pounds of that ( thankfully it was a much smaller portion). With each meal Moe's serves some amazing thick cut griddled cornbread. I mention the griddled part because it jut adds another layer of awesome to the best cornbread I have ever had. Crunchy on the outside and somehow so moist on the inside. It is so easy to dry out cornbread. This is not, and it also has small tiny bits of jalapeño peppers in it to add just a kick of heat and flavor. No butter needed with this ! The only minor let down in this meal was the pulled pork chili. It had some great flavor, but unfortunately the consistency was that of soup. I ate it all because it really did taste good but I just would not call it chili. As good as my Fried Chicken was I must admit I was still a little jealous because my wife had the best ever pulled pork I have found in Maine. I had pork envy. It was like this pork had been dropped down from the barnyard in the sky, baptized, blessed and then brought to the table with a side of holy water homemade BBQ sauce. The pork was so perfectly moist, so perfectly smoked, so perfectly tender that it was just Moe better then any other I have had. The BBQ sauce is served on the side as it should be so you can enjoy the meat in all its glory. However if you decide to go the sauce root this is some of the best sauce you could use. Its thinner then your bottled varieties and also has a bit more vinegar and heat then you may be accustomed to but it compliments the meat amazingly. We took some home and drizzled it on our other foods from the fridge for days. To complete our meal we shared a small but very inexpensive dessert that was just the right size after our filling meals. I'm not even sure what to call it but it was basically Chocolate mousse laced with Oreo cookie crumbs and topped with whipped cream. It was simple and delicious. There is really nothing Moe to tell in this review. You want amazing BBQ without traveling all the way to the Carolinas or Texas ? Just hit the highway to Bangor, Maine. Moe's Original BBQ can't be beat. It is the best BBQ in Maine.

Mo's is probably the best BBQ I've had outside the great state of Texas. This stuff is legit. Any item you find on the menu will be sure to delight. So go ahead and pick something and enjoy. You have to eat here when in Bangor.
(4)Adam W.
Absolutely amazing! I have been in the heart of BBQ country in Lockhart, Texas and have been to all the famous joints down there and I can confidently say that Moes has just as good smocked meat as any of the proclaimed best BBQ joints in the world. The ribs are smoked to perfection and taste amazing. Brisket rivals that of any Texas brisket I have ever had. Maybe even better? Pulled pork was excellent too. Had a hint of a sweet flavor that I couldn't quite figure out. Nonetheless it was unique and delicious. I went there twice in less than 24 hours. Every year when I go to climb Katadhin, Moes will be my dinner before the hike and my dinner the next day when I am exhausted from hours of hiking. If you want a taste that's really hard to find and worth every penny go to Moes!

I've said it before (not sure if on Yelp, my blog, or somewhere else on the interwebs), but Bar B Que, BBQ, or just plain 'Q is hard to come by in Maine--even harder to find the real deal similar to what you find in the deep South or other places below the Mason-Dixon. I'd heard about Moe's before, but for some reason, I couldn't bring myself to believe that Bangor, Maine might have serviceable BBQ, let alone the damn good, Alabama-style brand. It does and I'm glad I finally broke on through and made my way up Broadway in the Queen City to sample some. You've probably read about Dewey Hasbrouck on Yelp. He's the manager/owner and he was in the house when I made my initial visit. I can see why people mention him. He really makes the experience, especially the first one, memorable. He understands customer service, and how that quality really matters in the food business. I generally steer clear of chain restaurants, and Moe's is part of a national chain started by three Alabama brothers. They opened their first joint in Colorado in 2001, and they mainly are found in Colorado, Alabama, and three in North Carolina. The farthest east they've penetrated is Ohio before Dewey opened the Bangor joint in 2012. I mention all this to say, chain or not, Moe's is some damn good BBQ, and I'll definitely be back. I mean, who else serves catfish in Maine, but Moe's? The food is all based on authentic Southern family recipes, and the down-home vibe that Hasbrouck has cultivated in his staff is a nice touch, BBQ, or not. I'm a pulled pork guy, but I love real brisket, and Moe's had one brisket platter left when I rolled in around 1:30. I'm so glad I went with the brisket. Real Southern brisket is tender enough to be cut by a fork. Moe's brisket passed the test and it was a plastic one at that. Real tasty, prepped with spices and a light sauce. It also comes with a nice sweet and tangy slaw, pickles, and sauce can be added. Moe's sauce is real good, too. The platters come with two sides and grilled cornbread. I opted for the baked beans and potato salad. The beans were tangy, with a nice mix of BBQ sauce, and a little bite. The potato salad was a nice consistency, mixed with mayonnaise, egg, and just the right amount of salt and flavorings. The cornbread was grilled perfectly, and buttery. There was another drive-through place on Pleasant St. in Brunswick that was the real deal, run by a brother and sister from Arkansas. Sadly, they closed. The other BBQ restaurants that continue to pull in customers are quite lame in my opinion. I'm really happy to have found Moe's and will definitely stop again when in or near greater-Bangor.

From the outside, moe's looks like a Fly by Night restaurant, but inside was very clean. This was my first time here as recommended by a friend; it will not be my last. The food was absolutely fantastic, just a great hint if spice. The beans were out if this world. My smoked chicken was outstanding. The friendliness of the staff puts other restaurants to shame.
(5)Tyson W.
This place is really great. Clean, great staff, and home cooked sides and bar-b-que that wouldn't be out of place in the south or Texas. The manager came by to check on us and we ended up chatting for several minutes - great guy. Kids eat free from the kids menu when you dine in.
(5)Eric M.
Moved here from Chicago, and very happy to find Moe's. Fantastic barbecue. Better than home. friendly staff, fun and comfortable atmosphere. Our new favorite spot.
(5)Opie M.
Fantastic food and the owner Dewey is a super nice guy! The staff is very friendly and food takes very little time, calling it 'fast food' would be a slap in the face to the quality you are getting! Keep up the great work! Five stars for service, quality of food, flavor and cleanliness of this establishment! Only grip is the menu is a little confusing your first visit, but once again the staff is there to help!
(5)Jonathan P.
Amazing Food! Friendly Staff! Next time I'm in town, I'll definitely be returning... Manager took time to review the menu with me and my family and went table to table asking everyone how their food was... This is service that we rarely see these days!
(5)Linda D.
Excellent barbecue. Friendly staff. Allergy friendly (our son has a milk and peanut allergy and the cashier gladly went through the whole menu board with us). Would return if in area again.
(4)Domnic S.
Food is great here. I will be going back. Great smoked flavor. Had the turkey and the flavor was very intense.

When I visit family in Maine, I feel like each time I lose a restaurant I love. My in-laws family wanted to try this place, and I had little hope it would be any good. Boy, was I wrong! We came on a Thursday, so I got the Thanksgiving sandwich special. Amazing! I proceeded to return 2 more times during my 2.5 week stay. Can't wait to come back! And nothing is better than white BBQ sauce!
(5)Hannah D.
By far one of my favorite places to eat. I have tried many of their sandwiches and love all them. However pulled pork is what I usually go with. Even though the sandwiches are scrumptious and packed with meat, I really go to Moe's for their to die for daily sides. If they have the sweet potato casserole on the menu, it's your lucky day. Every time I see it I want to do a happy dance because of the sweet dessert that I will soon be gobbling up. If you are in the Bangor area and want a fairly quick meal, Moe's is a must!
(5)Susan C.
Great lunch!!! Perfect size sandwiches and sides. Pulled pork and pulled chicken were excellent. Enthusiastic staff explained menu and if you didn't like something as a side, they would give you something else!! BBQ sauce has a nice kick to it. Baked beans, sweet potato casserole and Mac & cheese were excellent. Coming from his southerner, this is a must try!! Seating is small but adequate:-). Nice spot to have BBQ in the area!!!
(5)Lucy D.
Yup, 5 stars! Best southern food I've had in the Northeast! Easy to find and not far from the highway. Thanks Yelp!
(5)David D.
Friday eve aprox 8PM. A scarce of customers, we must've missed the rush. Picked out a Smoked Turkey "Platter", a Six-Bone order of ribs and an assortment of four sides- Mac n'Cheese, coleslaw, creamed spinach and BBQ beans. The entre's and the sides were maybe at room temp. Possibly the foods are supposed at a "picinic" temp? The cornbread was good. The mac n' cheese tasted like refrigerated cardboard. Seems the "Bama stlye" is unfortunately escaping me with Moe's. I was bummed. Just don't get that the feeling any of the bbq meats is ever associated with any actual fire (electric smoked?) there's much in the way of any seasonings other than salt, sugar and vinegar. A steam table isn't good enough to heat hot food Chip in for a little gas money and go to Winterport.
(2)Kurt A.
The service makes it 5 stars. Good atmosphere, food is always served up quick, the Barbque is average to slightly above average but always consistent. The service is bend over backward good though. There is nothing the staff won't do for you short of giving you the shirt off their back...which Dewy might do if you asked nice. We go back for the consistent food and great service.
(5)J.D. R.
Wings were very good with their creamy sauce on side, pulled pork was nice and their sides were excellent examples of baked beans, slaw and cornbread - unique and delicious. I loved their banana pudding.
(4)Chris M.
Living in TX for 10+ years, I know good and bad BBQ. Moe's is maybe "good" for the area, but on the whole it was terrible. Bland chicken and odd-tasting pork, a huge surprise considering the raves this place has gotten from friends. And no Brisket? How can you have BBQ without Brisket? Severely disappointed, we will never be back.
(1)Patrick B.
Moe's served up a mean beef brisket sandwich that had a ton of flavor. Had a great conversation with the owner, Dewey. I will most definitely be visiting Moe's again!
(5)Thomas S.
There is nothing bad to eat at Moe's. The service is exceptional and the owner, Dewey, is cute as a button.
(5)James S.
We're regulars...because it's simply Great. Good meat, delicious sides and the friendliest crew in the world. Constantly changing sides means there's always something different to try. Visit once and you'll be back again and again. Not to be missed.
(5)Natalie D.
It was very good. The meat is appropriately smokey, the sauce is slightly spicy but also vinegary in a good way, potato salad is eggy and delicious, and the pickles remind me a lot of amatos! One of my favorite things is that they keep the BBQ sauce in a warm water bath which means the it is perfectly warm and viscous! Oh and the owner is super friendly and comes to your table to ask how things are! Good ole southern hospitatlity. :)

Great catfish and sides! Really good portions

We had lunch at the Moe's location in Bangor today. When we walked up to the counter the pleasant and upbeat young woman behind the counter asked if we had been there before. When we replied that we were "first timers", she launched into a very informative, yet concise review of the menu. For example , she indicated that on the $10 plate you get a little more meat than on the $9 sandwich and that both come with two sides. We both ordered the pulled pork plate with cole slaw and beans. My wife had water and I had a sweet iced tea (for only $1). The plate is served with a slice of grilled cornbread. Everything was delicious and the serving of meat was very generous! We could have shared one order and probably had enough to eat. As it was, I had to help my wife finish her meat, beans and cornbread. I didn't mind a bit but boy was I stuffed! Unless you are a really big eater, and especially if you would like to try one of their yummy sounding deserts, I would recommend sharing. To top it off we had a very nice chat with Dewey, the owner/manager, who apparently, based on other reviewer comments, checks with everyone at the end of their meal. He was very personable and it seems to us that he is doing a great job of managing this business.

The first time I ever had Moe's was at a business meeting where it was brought in. I was impressed because the smoked turkey breast, which was presliced, was still tender and juicy even after traveling and being sliced. So my husband and I decided to go in. Wow, this place is good! First of all, the improvements they made with the space is mind blowing. You never would have know it was KFC/Jimmy V's with rows of fast food booths. It's great, homey, and welcoming. The menu is fairly simply. Platter or sandwhich, pick your sides, soft drink comes with it. For the cost you really can't beat a dinner for two, and the food is really good. I usually get the pulled pork platter with potato salad and baked beans, my husband will mix it up, and we split four chicken wings. The wings alone are worth a visit! Smokey, tender, and a bit of a kick. The pulled pork is mouth watering! My only complaint would be they don't put enough BBQ sauce on it, but that's why I always bring a bottle to the table. More on the spicy side than sweet, but that's how I like it. I've never had real southern BBQ, but from places I've had in the North, Moe's takes the cake.
(4)Howard L.
This place is awesome. The rib sandwich was delicious, the sides were great, and they had a few tasty drinks on tap too. Simple place with friendly staff to grab a quick meal.
(5)Joe M.
I was there on Thursday, April 5 for the 'soft opening'. Yumtastic! The pulled pork sandwich - 'Bama style - was fantastic. The pork was so tender it came apart instantly with the first bite. The pork was extremely flavorable and the BBQ was not too sugery either and the pork was not swimming in some goopy sauce. Bonuses in my book. The side of jambalaya was also very very good, and spicy. The broccoli-and-cheese side was good also. The staff were extremely friendly and offered up suggestions (my whole meal was suggested by owner Dewey and his crew). I can confirm that they know what they're talking about! Looking forward to trying the catfish and ribs on future visits because I can say w/ 100% assurance that there will be future visits. Great job! Welcome to the Bangor area!

When we knew we were going to have a back yard wedding, we decided to have BBQ. That was the most important thing. After some research around the Hampden & Bangor area we found Moe's Original which had great reviews from Yelp, Friends, and Family. And the good news is that they were right. From the start Dewey was amazing to work with. He was easy to get ahold of, accommodating, and completely affordable for a wedding. When the Hurricane traveled up the coast the weekend of our wedding, we had to do a rain delay resulting in pushing the catering time back. When we called Dewey he was more than amazing, had no problems at all and was happy to be there anytime that we needed him to be. We had: Pulled Pork Brisket BBQ Chicken Hot Dogs Water mellon & cucumber slaw Cornbread Baked beans The best parts of the meal were the Brisket and baked beans. So, if you need to have an event catered, call Moe's they are really amazing. I highly recommend them.
(5)Jack M.
The best place to eat in all of Bangor. Excellent barbecue. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices Easy to find location. What more could anyone ask for? I had the pulled pork platter and I thought I was down south.
(4)Sara D.
I love Moe's. I've been there write a few times since they opened and have never had a bad meal. Dewey is so friendly and involved in every aspect of his business. He introduced himself to me after seeing me a couple times and that just makes such an impression. I highly recommend it!
(5)Kevin F.
This is a better take out place vs eat in. That being said for Bangor Maine this is good BBQ, I just wish they had a better selection of sauces as there is only the house sauce. I had the ribs with coleslaw and it was great. I loved the heat added to the slaw.
(3)Trey P.
Never Really Got Much From Here My Friend use too work here and got food from there after his shift I'd just end up eating cause he'd drink my beer. But what he'd bring was pretty damn good.
(4)Kelly M.
Definitely going back! I'm no expert on southern style barbecue but this place is awesome! I got the pulled pork platter w Mac n cheese and sweet potato casserole. It came with the best cornbread that I've ever had. I loved the pork and casserole too. I wasn't so into the Mac n cheese, but it was still good. My friend got smoked chicken wings and they were wicked good, I'll get those next time I go back! Loved it.
(5)Jeff A.
Finally got there tonight for dinner. They've been open about a week. The ribs were great and my wife really enjoyed the smoked turkey platter. The food had great flavor and while the servings don't look big, we both left stuffed. We're headed back soon and taking friends!
(5)Sean W.
Great food! Generous portions! Friday and Saturday nights are busy.
(4)Jeremy B.
Good food and even better service!! We told the lady at the register it was our first time so she told us if we didn't like anything we tried let her know and we could try something else instead because they didn't want anyone leaving there hungry!! We will be frequenting this joint!'
(5)kalyn b.
Not half bad, for BBQ in Maine! The ribs had plenty of meat on them, the sauce was delicious (although perhaps not as spicy as some would like), and the sides were plentiful. Maybe a bit on the pricey side for an order at the counter type place ($9 for a pulled pork sandwich, $13 for the large serving of ribs), but those prices aren't outrageous and the $2.50 cans of beer are awesome. I would even say I like the food better than Buck's Naked, although not the ambience.
(4)Jason H.
This is everything that BBQ should be, at least, indoors anyway. Not only is the food consistently great but the owner is always around and he brings a really positive and engaging attitude and personality. It's the kind of place where you're always going to be happy because you know that the people there really care about what they do.
(5)Bob F.
Ate dinner here tonight on business trip to area. I would highly recommend Moe's. The barbecue is great and this restaurant should become an instant classic in the Bangor area. Met the owner (Dewey) and it's obvious he is passionate about barbecue and the business. Wish them well and look forward to coming back to enjoy the great food!
(5)Ann C.
We were in Bangor and looking for a good place to eat and Moe's was amazing! The meat on the ribs fell off the bone, the sides were really good and the staff was welcoming and helpful. The owner walked around and said hello to everyone and offered help with the menu. I had the greens and peas (black eyed), corn bread, and chili. Yum! My husband had the fried okra and corn bread, which comes with the plates but he got a smoked chicken sandwich which was also good. My folks got the baked beans which they said were the best they have had and the sweet potato casserole. All around wonderful experience and they gave us the beer cozie with our PBR. Don't miss this place!
(5)Josey J.
still just as good as the first time!!
(5)Kevin L.
i'm very glad to have found this place. high quality foods; ribs are nicely done, not overpowered with sauce. chicken smoked perfectly; haddock fried just right; pulled pork pretty tasty as well. what's really awesome is their ever-changing variety of sides; and the atmosphere is clean and relaxing, and great job on the bathroom too. their corn bread is also very tasty with hints of spices. the owner/ manager usually comes around and talks a bit with the customers which is pretty cool. definitely going to be a regular there.
(4)W C.
I really, really wanted to find a good bbq place in Bangor. Moe's opened and I was there. I bbq as a hobby, and have found that everyone has their own style...... That being said, rating just the bbq ( the soggy sides, mac n cheese that tastes freezer burnt, cornbread that sometimes falls apart and mostly just sticks to the roof of your mouth and teeth) I would go 2 star. Meat is okay, with a nice flavor, but all you get is lightly seasoned meat with some sort of homemade vinegar bbq sauce. Not even a choice if you have a sweet tooth for a brown sugar laden sauce. And no brisket? No bbq place would leave the cornerstone of bbq off of their menu. If you are tired of mickey d's and want an alright pulled pork sandwich, stop in (get potato chips as your side) and order. If you want more authentic bbq, head to winterport. Being the best BBQ place in Maine isn't saying much as what this state offers isn't anywhere close to "real bbq". As long as you keep smoking meat with electricity, offer only one vinegar laden sauce and have no consistent quality with your sides, you might keep being the "best place in Bangor" but that's really not saying much.
(2)Billie H.
Absolutely the best bar-b-q I have ever had!. Great ribs and all the sides were terrific. Tasty corn bread that is not stick-in-your-throat dry; baked beans that were sweet and peppery-perfectly balanced and even the fried okra-which can be slimy-not, very good. If your looking for atmosphere this is not the place but I sure wish they were closer to Boston! Best ever-thanks Mos. Hmmmmmmm
(5)Chip F.
This was our first time at Moe's in Banogr on Broadway across from Governors. Really good food and helpful, friendly service. I had the smoked chicken sandwich with beans and a vinegar-based slaw. Tender smoky pulled chicken on a slightly toasted soft bun with slaw and pickles dressing the sandwich. I got the last of the chicken so my wife had pulled pork with mac & cheese and a cucumber salad for sides. Our children had the chicken tenders with chips and a soft drink. That was under $20. My wife pointed out tat they served beer. I had a Sierra Nevada and Karen had a Blue Moon both $4. They also have Pabst and probably about 5 or 6 brands. The food is spiced on the mild side, which was perfect for my taste. I also tried "skillet corn" a combo of corn, peppers, onions and sausage in a lite broth. Just slightly spiced. Very tasty. This is a great addition to the local food scene. A note: Moe's smokes food daily, but it is first come first serve and when they run out - as they did with the chicken - that's it for the day. We are there fairly late - 7:45 pm. With a phone call ahead they will try to guarantee big orders. Go enjoy. If you're driving trough Bangor on your way somewhere, Moe's is a couple minutes north of I-95 at the Broadway offramp.
(5)Travis J.
Not bad for being in town. Good pork
(3)Ann L.
DAMN! Awesome surprise off 95. My friend and I were leaving Bar Harbor and were starving but sick of paying top dollar for small sized meals in the resort town. I found this place on Yelp and so glad I did. The building looks like it used to be an old Wendy's maybe- but it's really fun/nice on the inside. Clean and lots of seating. Order at the counter and seat yourself. Both fast, friendly service and good quality food. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese on the side and cole slaw- which had no mayo and bangin flavor. Highly recommend! It's a chain and has other locations in the south!
(5)Kirk W.
Their wings are home cooked and taste extra good with sauce
(5)Eric W.
I've had really good, true Southern BBQ. I'm afraid this isn't it. I had the pulled pork platter and although the meat was juicy, it was served cold. There was hardly any smoke flavor to it at all, and I'm not surprised as there are no smokers outside anywhere to be seen. They only have a house sauce, which isn't very spicy. I'd appreciate a spicier sauce choice. I had coleslaw and beans for my sides. The beans tasted like B&M canned beans with the house sauce mixed in, I wasn't a fan. The coleslaw was "marinated" in vinegar, also not a fan. The grilled cornbread was the one redeeming feature; very good, dense, flavorful. So, besides the meh food the pricing is way out of line. So much so that you can't even buy a "full rack" if you wanted. A rib dinner comes with 4 ribs and two sides. Keep in mind the "sides" are served in 2-ounce plastic cups. For this you pay $12, and if you want 6 bones you pay $15. I could get a full rack at Ruby Tuesdays that would have more flavor and better sauce, and larger sides. I'll also mention, as others have, that the owner noticed us taking a long time to order. He came out and asked us "if we had been there before", and when I said no, he launched into an explanation of the menu. I was polite and listened, but was completely put off by this. I had no problem understanding the menu. Perhaps "can I help you make a decision" would be a better offer.
(2)Mary R.
Tried the ribs for two. Disappointed in the sides available. There should have been Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes as sides. Ribs were good but I've had better. They feel apart from the bone but weren't covered in any sort of sauce. You are given a bottle of a somewhat spicy sauce to add if you wish which is a nice option. We got the bag of chips and the grits. The chips are Lays classic and the grits were creamy but contained peppers which neither my boyfriend or I like so didn't eat. The cornbread also contained peppers so we ate some of it but threw most away. Paper towels are at the tables which is nice. Overall, it was a decent meal but have definitely experienced better. We were also under the impression it was a sitdown restaurant as opposed to a fast food joint.
(2)Edward J.
I'd categorize this under the hidden gem file. When I'm in that part of the country next, I'll be sure to time my gas fuel up with my belly fillers.
(5)Michael S.
Great place for some BBQ!!!! Stopped in on the way to Canada, & wasn't disappointed! Fast & friendly staff
(4)Erin B.
Fast and delicious! Best smoked chicken sandwich I've ever had- which meant I had to have two of them! Definitely coming here again the next time I'm in the area.
(5)Cassandra B.
This was a good stop! My husband got the pulled pork Platter with mac and cheese and broccoli salad as sides and I got the smoked chicken platter with broccoli salad and cucumber and watermelon salad as sides. The meats were both good but the pulled pork was killer and the cornbread was really good. The sides were nothing to write home about but they were special sides so they might be as good as the regulars.

Moe's Original Bar B Que - Bangor, ME - 7/22/2015 Although generally I don't care for chains unless they are high-end fine dining chains, every once in a while I "deviate from policy"... And boy am I glad I did... Not much to look at on the outside and very typical "barbecue" decor inside with high tops and stools. Where they absolutely knock it out of the park is in their employees. I don't think you will find a nicer group of people that obviously work extremely well together. The cashier Logan will just amaze you with her bubbly personality! The other two guys working the kitchen were extremely friendly as well. Some of the most friendly people I have met in my life on the road... First Logan asks if you have ever been there before. Next she goes over the menu and tells you the different combinations and very personally gives you her recommendations. Just imagine your daughter working at a BBQ place and that's her... I had the large Ribs Platter. Comes with six Pork Ribs and two sides. There are many choices and they all look good. I had the Smoked Chicken Chili and the Baked Beans. For only $3.00 you can "ADD MOE" which gives you an additional three ounces of meats. Once again, there are plenty of choices. It comes with a slice of toasted Corn Bread which also was quite good. Looks like they have four Draft Beers on tap and lots of sodas..., fountain and canned. By the amount of people that came and went as I savored my BBQ it appears that they do quite the business. The phone rang off the hook with take out orders and they have a drive thru to make things even more convenient. A "well oiled machine" from what I can see. Looking for a great place to come for really good BBQ with a friendly staff to mach...? Look no further... This is your place... I loved it and next time i'm in the area... "I'll be back for MOE"...

Why this place had been kept a secret from me by my friends has caused me to reevaluate all of my friendships and put them all on probation. The pulled pork. THE PULLED PORK!!! Living in the south, I know me some pulled pork. And the pulled pork at Moe's Barbecue is outstanding. Moist, delicious, flavorful, and not too saucy. The coleslaw is vinegar-based, not mayonnaise-based and has a zippy tang. The mashed potato casserole wasn't my favorite, as it has green beans in it, as well as cheese and onions, but I felt could've had more flavor. The cornbread is cooked and then grilled, and was very good. (Warning: The cornbread does have tiny pieces of jalapeño in it, but they are miniscule.) According to my friend, their mac & cheese is delicious, as well as their wings. But seriously, GET THE PULLED PORK!

Excellent BBQ in Bangor Maine! I was skeptical from the non descrip exterior, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Specials and sides are awesome, cornbread delicious, and they even made a fabulous tofu sandwich for the vegetarian among us! Friendly service, good prices.

This place is AMAZING!!! I had a little bit of everything and every bite was better than the last. Some of the best baked beans I every had and the BEST Banana Pudding I have ever eaten (Please don't tell my Mother-In-Law) If you're in Bangor I cannot recommend this place enough!

Good prices, very friendly, clean. The baked beans are amazing! Pulled pork and ribs were both very good. Minimal selection of beer.

Just your average bbq joint in Bangor with a more local hometown feel than B-dubs. They have 4 beers on tap (one is a very hard cider) and you can drive thru or eat in. The pulled pork sandwich was pretty darn delicious and juicy and served with pickles under the bun as well. The mac n cheese was okay, but not my favorite. Their coleslaw has a light-mayo base with incredible flavor and was definitely my favorite. The wings were on the sweet side with a hint of pepper; I definitely recommend sticking to B-Dubs if you're craving wings. The apple crisp dessert cup was amazing and I wish I had more than just a scoop of it! Overall assessment: if you're in the mood for some good 'ol bbq served fast and a friendly chat with the staff, Moe's will take care of you!

Great service and really friendly staff. The smoked turkey was tender and had a nice smoked flavor. They would get a 5th star if there was brisket on the menu.

Every time someone recommends a BBQ place up north, my initial feeling is skepticism. I was passing through Bangor for business and someone recommended Moe's. I was craving some BBQ (as I normally am) so I decided to give it a shot. They sure shut me up. I was pleasantly surprised to taste pulled pork that needed little to no sauce. It's so refreshing when a BBQ place just lets pork bask in its naturally delicious flavor, rather than dousing it in sauce. The portion of pork was plenty and was a good mix of meat and bark. The warm, grilled cornbread was a nice extra touch. For sides I got Brunswick Stew and Mac n Cheese. The Brunswick Stew was delicious and I thought the Mac n Cheese was just so-so. I usually like my mac to be a littler sharper, so it could just be a personal preference. Service was very friendly and helpful in choosing my meal. Not sure if i'll be in Bangor again any time soon, but if I am I will most definitely be back.
