If you visit Maine, you have to go to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor (Sausalito of the East Coast), Camden, etc..and eat lots of lobster. Eating Maine lobster in Maine is lobstery and Mainer. McLaughlin seafood in Bangor, ME has 2 branches. The big one in Marina which has amazing views on Penobscot river and the smaller one on Main St. The smaller one is a lobster stand that offers so many seafood varieties. Ordered whole lobster and my friends got the haddock fish and chips. The lobster was awesome! It's so fresh, lots of tasty juicy and fresh lobster meat. It's fun to crack the lobster and eat it piece by piece. It didn't really need butter. It was juicy enough and perfectly tender. You can taste a touch of the ocean salt in the lobster. So far, this is one of the best lobsters I've had.

I'm a sucker for anything lobster. The cute layout of this seafood spot is hard to pass. There are tables and seats, picnic -style, set up right by the parking area. You order at the window and they serve you your food when it's ready. I've had the crab roll, lobster meal and also the fried mushrooms. Everything was quite good, service was friendly. I especially liked the fried mushrooms, it came with a buttermilk ranch dip, delicious. McLaughlin's also have a seafood market next door. I suggest coming earlier on in the day if you want something; I was there around 3-4pm and they barely had any seafood left. But if you ever feel disappointed in that, just go grab a lobster roll next door.

Good food, but uninteresting surroundings and early closing. The picnic tables, baskets of fried shellfish, and lobsters all hit the spot; the lobster was especially tender. Based just on the food, this would definitely be a first-class place. The relatively early closing took an edge off things --- 8pm closing is plenty for a fish shop, but cutting it a bit early for a restaurant. We were the last group to get our orders in before they started shutting down. The bigger issue was the location --- right by the road, with one customer idling their engine while waiting for takeout. Neither aspect would be easy to fix, but they both stick in my memory. It's not fair to compare this Bangor location to someplace right on the coast, but it did give a different feel. Still, the food hit the spot. Next time I'll try the marina location for comparison.

Overall I'm mostly glad I went to McLaughlin. The view sitting outside was really nice, and the wait staff was friendly. I ordered the Lobster Newburg, and it was nicely portioned, and the lobster meat was very fresh. The sides were good but rather simple and could have used some seasoning. Overall it was just okay and not worth the hefty price tag.

I only come here to get the fried clams. They are some of the best in the area. Also they have great sweet potato fries and regular fries. Get the small plate- it has plenty of food and the clams are breaded nicely. prices is around 15$ if you get that and a drink. very pricey however... can find the same food cheaper however you wont find it as fresh anywhere else. Sit outside on a picnic table to eat or to go no indoor seating. Staff is always nice and they have the seafood store next door where you can actually order raw seafood to take home and cook.

I saw the reviews about this place and decided to check it out. I am not from the area and I had a bad experience the day before with chowder so I had to try again somewhere else. I got there and the place has a small store to the right where you buy fresh seafood and then to the left there's some picnic tables and a window to order food. Very rustic but kind of fun. I checked the menu above the window and decided to get the clam chowder and a side of fries. I approached the window and a nice lady greeted me and asked me what I wanted, but unfortunately they were out of clam chowder so then I decided to go with the fish chowder. I paid, sat down and waited for my meal. After a few minutes a lady called my number and approached me with the cup of soup and fries. I started with the soup and I am not sure what is happening to me but I got another terrible chowder in Maine... It tasted like water down milk with chucks of something flaky, but with absolutely no taste whatsoever. I couldn't believe so I ate my fries and left to eat somewhere else after throwing away the soup. The fries were good but the soup was very disappointing. I did not try anything else because I was now scared to spend more money but the other people around me seem to be enjoying their meals so something else must be good here I just didn't get it.

I'm forced to give this place one star. They don't deserve it! I called to see how much the steamed lobsters are and when they are open until. I was told they close at 6 and they will steam the lobster for an additional $2 - which was ok. But when I get at 5:30, I told the guy that I was the one who called about the steamed lobster 30 minutes before. He said he could not steam them because he was leaving at 6. They should say they close at 5. Skip this place. Go to Captain Nicks. The lobsters are the same price and they will steam them for free.

This is by far my favorite place to go for good seafood take out. The food is always good and the have some of the better seafood rolls around. I definitely recommend them!

The sandwich is pretty much just lobster on a little roll, but there is a lot of chunk lobster on it. Very fresh; the soft roll was a nice complement to the lobster. The rings are lightly breaded, but just as greasy for a good top off to the meal. This place is just a pull up, outside seating with cover, restaurant with an ajoining market to buy fresh lobster.

We order cooked lobsters from the seafood market by phone. They are always sized correctly and piping hot. Staff will clarify hard or soft shell prices (you DO know the difference, right?) a great place to get lobster to go.

What a delight. My younger sister was in from California and my older sister was in from Montreal. We asked at our hotel were we could get lobsters. There was no delay in the response. The atmosphere with live music and seating outside and in was great. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. The food was fabulous. This is one place you must visit when in Bangor.

I ate the lobster here and I was not impressed mainly because we showed up at 7:30 and they close at 8:00 we were kindly told(in one form or another) to hurry up ( we had not even be there 3 mins) because they are closing soon. When I ordered the lobster the gentleman working almost seemed up set that I ordered something that actually took time to prep / cook. When I finally got my meal I was not given my drink I paid for yet so I went back up to the window to get it and no one was there. The lobster itself was fresh and didn't have a over the top flavor just a average taste for a below average place.

Great ambiance, but the food didn't match it unfortunately. Running out of crab cakes relatively early in the evening is not good kitchen management. The lobster meat we got had clearly been frozen, unlike other restaurants we'd been to before and after this one.

This McLaughlin's location serves mainly baskets and fried sides, which can be eaten on the patio or taken to go. Their adjoining seafood market has a large selection of fish, clams, and lobster at lower than supermarket prices (and probably fresher!). On the restaurant side, people come for the seafood, but none of the baskets are particularly cheap. They have daily specials, which are deceptive in that the prices are only marginally cheaper than normal. On Sundays, the lobster roll with fries and coleslaw is $13.50. The actual lobster was delicious with just the right amount of mayonaise on a perfect toasted piece of white bread. The fries were crispy and the coleslaw was also good. The only problem was that the size was minuscule. I felt like I was ordering off of the kids menu. It's easy to feel slighted after paying nearly $14 for something that doesn't fill you up. The same goes for their coconut shrimp ($8 for 6 pieces). The shrimp and coconut batter was excellent, but it's not something that you can make a meal out of.
