I remember going to The Ground Round decades ago in Massachusetts. The current chain by that name isn't exactly like the old one, but if the Bangor restaurant is any indication, it's still very good. There aren't a lot of places to eat near the "hotel row" on Odlin Rd, but there is the Ground Round next to the Days Inn. I went there with my wife and my mother on a Wednesday evening and were seated promptly in the "dining room" section (our choice.) The first thing is that if you look at the menu on Yelp it is less than half of what the restaurant offers. The Yelp menu shows no burgers, no steaks and few beers. In reality, there are two pages of burgers, several steaks and about 17 beers on tap, plus more bottled. Not on the menu but on the specials board were fried clams, which my wife had. These were not strips but whole clams, small and sweet and cooked just right. I had the "Black and Blue" burger which I was able to order medium-rare, something I don't often find. It was not the best burger I've had, but quite good nonetheless. My mom had some sort of "turkey pretzel" sandwich which she liked. The service was fine and the food was tasty. I've been around Bangor restaurants enough to know that it would be hard to top The Ground Round in its price range. I'd definitely go back again.

This is our second year vacationing in the area. Upon arrival, we made a beeline to another restaurant our first night here that we discovered and loved last year. It was delicious, as we expected. Our second evening here, we chose Ground Round. We were immediately impressed. Halfway through the meal, I looked at my husband and said "I think this is my new favorite restaurant in Maine." He agreed. Thanks for a delicious dinner!

Surprisingly better than I initially thought from the outside. It's a pretty basic bar. The beers on tap are pretty decent, the bartender was nice, and the people at the bar were 20's-50's. The beer can be short or tall, the tall being in a cool glass and is 0.5L. My food was mixed. The salad was a pretty good general garden salad with chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. The healthy mango fish was a but dry. My friends pasta looked good. There was an over abundance and looked far from healthy. I wouldn't be opposed I going back, but I have more to explore.

I chose this location as it was close to the cheap seats theater next door. I ordered fried shrimp, sweet potato fries and rice pilaf at a $16 plate cost. To drink a $4.00 strawberry margarita. For the price, I feel I got what I paid for. The shrimp was definitely something out of a freezer already pre-breaded, sweet potato fries were good and the rice pilaf was rather bland. If you want better quality food, I suggest you go elsewhere and pay a tad bit more. The margarita was good. Hostess & waitstaff were great.

Checked into one of the hotels along this strip for the night and was originally only hoping to go through a drive-thru somewhere and bring something back to the room. Since there didn't seem to be ANY fast food in the area (strange, although we didn't venture too far, at least not in the right direction), we decided to check out this place. When you walk into the lobby, you're immediately greeted by at least one of the staff, and then have to decide if you want to sit on the sports bar side, or the family restaurant side. We opted for the former. The sports side still had a bit of a family restaurant feel, but with TVs, some standard sports collectibles on the walls, and of course the bar itself. Maybe six booths altogether and eight tables? We took a booth in the back. Very friendly service. Excellent menu selection for starters, burgers, healthy options, desserts, drinks. Free basket of popcorn before your meal! Love it. Of course that filled me up in the way free bread usually does, so I had trouble finishing my veggie burger with fries. The burger was quite large on a ciabatta bun, but seemed quite fresh (can't tell if homemade or not) and good flavor. The other in my party had the buffalo chicken wrap and said it was good, although he found the sauce didn't match well with his Sam Adams beer and would've switched beers if he had thought of it. My Coors was fine with the veggie burger. Total bill came to $27 after tax. If we ever stop in Bangor for the night again, I'd definitely go back here. Maybe try the nachos or something.

Great local place. Ate here a few times. I'd recommend it. Burgers are juicy. Decently priced. Service was great.

A good chain restaurant I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants, but we had a good meal here. My husband had the ham turkey club sandwich and enjoyed it. The meat and veggies were fresh. I had a cheese burger and curly fries. It was good, not great but good. They did have a good selection of beers on tap. The beers were good and cold. The service was great. From the moment we walked in the door, everyone was friendly and happy. We were never looking for our server for anything.

We haven't had a Ground Round in my neck o' the woods in over a decade. When I saw this one existed and we'd be in the area, I knew we had to go to get one last center cut sirloin. Sadly mine was way overcooked so the nostalgia was blown to heck for me. The hubby enjoyed his so there's that. Extra star for the great service. I can't remember his name but attentive without being pushy.

In a pinch, the Ground Round will do. In this day and age, though, it's just a poor man's Chili's and we have o so many more good places to choose from than the pre-made frozen meals that they have to offer. Food comes out fast though, and the service is never bad. Predictable, affordable, eatable. But only if you can think of anything else or are in a rush.

I happen to be staying right next to this restaurant so I figured I would give it a try and it was also past 9 PM on a Sunday and everything else seemed to be closed. I entered the restaurant and was greeted by a nice gentleman who took my order because I wanted something to go, so I did not get to go into the restaurant. I got my soup (New England Clam Chowder) and salad (House salad with raspberry vinaigrette) a few minutes later so I paid and left. It was very convenient and efficient. When I got back to my hotel I started with the soup because I was craving some good old chowder and boy was I disappointed. I tried the first spoonful and I thought that maybe I had not mixed it enough because it was extremely watery. Unfortunately that was not the case this was what the soup was suppose to be like. It honestly tasted like watered down milk, flour, rubber balls (aka clams), and potatoes. I went ahead and put it straight into the garbage. Then I tried the salad and it was a good old plain house salad, but the dressing was not bad. I did not try anything else so lets hope they just do not have a good chowder and the rest is amazing but I can only judge on what I tried and it was not good.

My better half and I had a late lunch here on a quiet Saturday after checking into the Motel just across the way. The place is pretty old but relatively clean, the hostess was friendly and polite. The menu was pretty big as most typical Americana style restos with a mix of burgers, snacky gutbusters, steaks, seafood and tex-mex. The service was friendly and efficient. I had the "clubhouse burger" and my wife had the taco salad. The portions were a good size and everything was flavorful. The burger was well garnished and treated like a grill cheese so a little greasy..tasty though..with 2 enormous cokes it came to $32..not bad now it's time for a nap!

Okay, back in Bangor on business at a hotel near this restaurant with no car available, so I walk to the Ground Round. The place was packed, so I went straight to the bar because I was hungry and thirsty. The service was good, and the draft beer selection was above average. If I wanted good seafood, I would have gone to Captain Nicks or the Eagles Nest if I had transportation, but since I did not, I should have known better and just gotten a burger or tried the Shepard's Pie or something like that. Instead I got the salmon which was so overcooked I could barely taste any salmon, more like a well-done tuna or chicken! Oh well, at least the beer and service was good, as well as the TV sports selection that was currently playing, so I will go back again someday...just not to get the seafood.

We choose the Ground Round because it was within walking distance of our hotel. It prove to be a great choice. The hot wing appetizer was superb. The portions so large we took some home. I equally enjoyed the asparagus steak. Most of all was our server, Anne. She took great care of us. Thanks, Anne.

Oh to the ground round. I have had some really good experiences at the ground round and some really bad experiences at the ground round. So, the service at the Ground Round is probably what saves it. The waitstaff is usually very friendly and attentive bringing fresh popcorn to the table even when they are flooded with some of your local yokels from small town Maine. They have never gotten our orders wrong in the time that we have been going there. We used to frequent this place for sporting events because it had a big screen TV and some room to spread out. Since the opening of Heros and My Fork, I think that this establishment takes a hit as being a sports bar and is probably going to have to rely on the hotel traffic (Right next to Days Inn) and some airport folks (Bangor International). Now let's move onto the food at the Ground Round. If you are looking for some good pub food .. don't go here. If you are looking for the cooks to get your order made the way that you want, don't go here. If you want some good wings for TV watching and sports, don't go here. Every single time that I have been to the ground round with a group or with a pal, we have never had a food order correct. Sometimes too cold, sometimes missing components and just an overall lack luster menu in general. The very last time that I went, we ordered wings for the table and god some very small and tiny wings that were burnt from the fryer and had no sauce on them. Literally no sauce .. so we asked them to take it back to toss it in some hot sauce and the cooks sent it back with a little ramekin filled with the sauce and told the waitress to tell us to dip it if we want more. What? Then we ordered the hamburger club and steak sandwich and we wanted them pink and they came back rubbery and burnt ... the waitress apologized and brought it back without us even saying anything .. then came back with items that were cooked even more. She had the manager comp one of the sandwiches. I normally wouldn't complain like this but EVERY time that I have been there, we have had something wrong with our food. I guess the only benefit like I stated earlier, is the waitstaff and the Beer is cold and well priced for a restaurant chain. If you are looking for some lack luster chain food and are in a hurry and cant make it anywhere else, then go to ground round .. I recommend walking about 100 steps down the road and try My Fork for some good cuisine.

Great place to watch the game and have some really good appetizers. Ask for your bone in wings to be double dipped, they cook them twice.

The worst food! Who teaches the kitchen staff how to prepare food? What was I thinking? I knew this from years ago but was traveling on business, tired, and staying at the hotel next door--and wanted to watch the ballgame. Hoped it had improved. So...drink only! There is NOTHING w/o meat, and I mean NOTHING. Not even some nachos or a salad. Vegetarians, you are out of luck. And the salmon was ridiculously overcooked to dust, and the so-called broc was boiled to mush...all for $14.95! Disgusting. Very nice waitress though.

Years ago this was recommended by a regional butcher for the quality of it's beef. It can be loud, slightly dirty but I can count on great food & drink. It has become a fall back choice when we're too tired to decide where to go. The staff has always been pleasant and easy to work with.

I haven't been to a Ground Round since the 80's. I thought they were out of business until I came across this one. This restaurant is perfectly situated between two hotels. Place wasn't packed but had steady customers. The hostess was great with me (and the dog). She gave us a back corner booth so neither of us would be bugged (by screaming children, tail in isle way etc.) and I could get some work done. I kinda went in with my mind set on a general idea of what I wanted. I think the waitress read my mind... No sooner did I place my order and POOF, there it was in front of me... loaded taco salad and my virgin Daiquiri! Life is good at the Ground Round! The waitress was great... she'd come by once in a while wondering if I had killed my meal yet... She knew I was trying to get some work done and eat the best I could at the same time... The meal finally was consumed.. but the waitress was great and kept my water glass and popcorn pre-meal temper full even after the plate was taken away. Waitress again was great, she didn't push a dessert... My bill with drink was $15...can't beat that! Staff was great... Parking is weird as it is shared with the hotels.. Building was well maintained and clean... will say the do need to buy a quieter electric sweeper. Bathroom was very small, but clean as well. If you are in middle of nowhere Bangor Maine, this place is great.

This is the first time going to the Ground Round. I don't think I have ever heard of this place before since I am visiting from out of state. We picked this place because it was close to the hotel we were staying in. We tried to go to another restaurant near the mall, but the wait was over an hour. Luckily, this place had only a 15 minute wait. The menu showed a variety of choices. It reminds me of a TGI Fridays or something. My buffalo chicken wrap was decent and so was the Cesar salad.

I do not get why people like this place and why it's always so busy everytime I am forced to go there with my family. First of all I have to agree with Lacey about the childhood clown flashbacks that still haunt my memories. I also must add my childhood horror which was the delightful "Pay what you weigh" deal they used to have(I hope it has now been discontinued) that provided the added humiliation of having to wear a sticker with how much you weigh so the waitress could charge your parents a penny a pound. Not at all embarrassing for a 10 year old... Anyway, I do not hold a grudge against the Ground Round for this as they have changed their ambiance from kiddy play area to generic chain restaurant. I hold my grudge for their crappy food. Every single time I eat here my food is cold, chain restaurant quality slop. I now sit in the bar area when I must go here, which is always an icebox and I can't wait to get out of there to regain warmth in my extremeties. The one positive I will give the Ground Round is the service is usually very good. Dont go here unless you are staying at the Days Inn and need a place close to your hotel to tie one on.

Staying at a local hotel and it was close by. Just smelled dirty and felt dirty. Bathroom will ususally give it away and it was dirty. Food was OK and bartender friendly but not on my list to go back to.
