Diabetics at TGI Friday

If you're a diabetic, then you must be extra careful while dining at TGI Friday. Try the salad menu at TGI Friday to keep your sugar and sodium intake in check. Soups are great to keep you full and satisfied without munching on the unhealthy greased meat-based dishes on TGI Friday menu.

Foods to Avoid at TGI Friday for Diabetics:

Sugar and sodium intake are crucial if you have diabetes. While the salads are the best option for you at TGI Friday, it is recommended to avoid the Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad containing over 1000 calories and 1,650mg sodium. Also, skip Warm Pretzels with Craft Beer-Cheese dipping sauce as it contains more than 3000mg sodium. A hidden gem of downtown Bangor. Friendly. Apple strudel muffin is amazing. Decent coffee. -1 for short business hours.

It's not often you can find a place that feeds your mind spiritually as you fill your body. We left with smiles and warmth. I recommend it for your travels.

Perfect scones and good coffee, a gem in Bangor. The soup smelled good. Simple, hearty food, made just right. Loved the creepy-beautiful religious décor.

Small place but not extremely crowded. Has a strange feeling to it with the monks serving and bussing tables. They are really nice though. The prices are reasonable. I would recommend eating it to go because it's really small inside. The food is average. The bread was good. Don't get the lobster roll. The grilled cheese was ok.

Friars' was one of the must visit spots on my list in Bangor. I came into the shop not having much of an expectation since it was just a bakehouse and how well can friars bake? Apparently, extremely well. This place only opens from Tuesday to Friday and only at weird hours, so roughly around 8am til 2pm is what I always had in mind. The boyfriend and I came around lunch time and it was perfect since they just rolled out the sandwiches and soups. The friars were so polite, funny and friendly. The seatings were pretty much communal style. We ordered the Haddock Chowder, Ham and Cheese Sandwich, iced coffee and arnold palmer. The food absolutely blew my mind. The chowder tasted clean and full of haddock, the sandwich was ginormous and was filled with ham which wasn't salty at all, iced coffee was brewed nicely, arnold palmer was refreshing. We left very content and got a whoopie pie and Mexican Sweet Bread to go. Later that day, we had the whoopie pie, it was good but the filling tasted different, it wasn't too sweet but they definitely added something to make it taste different. It's not a bad taste but it was interesting and makes you question it. The best thing was the Mexican sweet bread, the absolute best bread ever. So soft and fluffy with the right amount of sugar and cinnamon on the top. It was great even the next time. We didn't even tie up the bag the bread was in and it still tasted like it was freshly baked. I will never underestimate friars and their skills now. They make killer bread.

Heavenly bread! And they are right, a DANK ass whoopie pie, certainly the best I've had. They brew a Whoopie Pie beer, but they can't sell it there, but just go down the street to Bangor Wine and Cheese and pick it up. Prices are very reasonable here for lunch! I got a zesty tomato soup with gnocchi and a roll. The roll was the best part! The soup was good, but only had 2-3 gnocchis in it (boo) and was too salty, maybe TOO zesty for my taste. But I'm still a big fan. If I lived in the area, I would buy my bread from them and probably try their sandwiches, which looked really good. Rock on with your bad selves, Friars.

Don't be fooled by the unprepossessing look of this place. Sure, there are some rules to follow, but you'll wind up with a terrific dining experience, a full tummy, and an insatiable desire for more of their whoopie pies. Cash or check only, no cell phones, odd hours, and no whining or crankiness! Friars' Rules! The prices are unbelievably affordable, the food is wonderful, and the whoopie pies will make you want to move to Bangor. Permanently. The grilled cheese that I had was buttery and delicious, on their thick-sliced bread. If you Like them on Facebook, they post their hours and daily menu specials. There are usually about five to choose from, so plan your time in Bangor accordingly to try them all! And get a whoopie pie (or several!) every time!

This is as close as you'll ever get me to 'going to church.' I had the Mexican bread, which was basically like a giant pan dulce or concha with cinnamon. It was fresh and soft. I do not recommend eating this in place that you don't want to make a gigantic mess of sugar and cinnamon. It has 'ant bait' written all over it. I had also had the pleasure of having a couple bottles of their whoopie pie beer. This was amazing. I've had a lot of good beers in my life and this is definitely in the running for top spot. Most monks brew Belgium style beers, which I am not a huge fan of. I assumed because of the bottle style and source, that this would be more like a chocolate infused Belgium beer. It definitely drinks like a solid porter. Very, very rich body and a strong chocolate flavor. I recommend this shop for anyone with a sweet tooth for fresh baked goods and delicious beer (to go.)

This is a really interesting dining experience and I highly recommend checking it out. The bakehouse has very strange hours so keep that in mind when planning to visit. Cell phones are forbidden inside and they only accept cash or checks. All seating is community style and since the place is small, be prepared to sit with strangers. It's quiet inside except for the chanting religious music. The menu is small and the prices are good. I had a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich that was so big I couldn't finish it. The bread was cut very thick and toasted to perfection. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich called a donair that reminded me of a gyro except this one in Canadian in origin. It had pieces of meat loaf, tomato and onion with a garlic sauce all wrapped in a hand-tossed flatbread. He seemed to really enjoy it because it disappeared quickly. Besides lunch options, they are also a bakery. I bought a loaf of Brother's bread and it was amazing. It's crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. I wish I had also gotten one of the sticky buns because they looked amazing.

It was an interesting place and the Friar that we ordered from was real nice but I think there is a lot of undeserved hype about this place. Yelpers seem to give extra credit for "cute", out of the ordinary places. Judged purely on the "grilled" cheese and tomato sandwich, which seemed more toasted than grilled, this is just average food. To be fair will try it again sometime, order something different and try a bakery item.

I Went to Friar's bake house with a friend recently and had a really good grilled ham and cheese on homemade bread that is made onsite. There was about 2 1/2 " of ham on the sandwich and it was really good and the price is awesome!!! Took some homemade bread home and it was great as well. Menu is limited and changes daily but choices are great. Community tables so find a seat where ever you can, turn off your cell phone (or they will make you leave) and enjoy!!!! Odd hours so check before you go!!

Oh wow. I got the pumpkin spice muffin and the hubby got the "mortal sin-a-mon" roll and two cups of hot apple cider to eat there. Both were delicious and then I saw they put out some of their famous whoopie pies. We got two for the road. Well, the parking lot because we wanted to be out sight before downing those babies so as not to be accused of gluttony. Quite possibly THE most perfect whoopie pie ever. Spongy chocolate cake, sweet creamy filling. The closest to heaven on Earth as you'll get.

Definitely the best thing we had in our short stay in Bangor. We came in for breakfast and tried out the Mexican sweet bread, a sticky bun, whoopie pie, challah bread, and Portuguese sweet bread. Everything was fresh and amazing! The monks were really pleasant too and in the end, we also bought some of their homemade jams. If we had been around at lunch we definitely would have tried out their regular menu. Just remember, they aren't open for dinner!

I try to stop here for lunch whenever I'm in Bangor. Sandwiches are huge (bring a friend to share it or take half home), soup is delicious and the corn bread is yummy. Each day there are different sandwich and soup choices. I like the homemade lemonade and cookies. If you enjoy the bread, there are loaves to take home. This is the only place where the cashier said "bless you" after making change for me. There's something nice about that.

Love this place!! They have great sandwiches during the day, the best bread around and lovely staff. I like the long tables and the random conversations that pop up. Feels like coming home... but with better food!! :-)

The Friar's Bakehouse is a great casual lunch stop. The food is always hot and plentiful (anyone who has ever been there can attest!) and, while often simple ingredients, it is always yummy. I've never had a bad meal. The menu is limited and changes daily. It's not the place for those who depend on routine! Make sure to leave room for a post-meal treat. I do believe they make the best chocolate chip cookies on the planet. Yes, they are that good. The Brothers have a no cell phone rule. So you better put it on silent and be prepared to stop texting!

It is rare that I catch them when they are open but when I do I am always so very happy with the food and experience. The Friars are always warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is set up so people actually enjoy the food and company they are with. The tables are set up family style with pitchers of water and all cell phones and outside distractions are respectively asked to be turned off. Plus, the Friars know how to make delicious food, bread and treats.

Stayed in Bangor, Maine when we went to Acadia National Park. Explored the city one day and came across Friars' Bakehouse. Best stop we made in Bangor. Loved the sticky buns! It was awesome. Next time we go to Bangor, we have to stop here for a sticky bun....and bring some home to NYC.

The Friar's Bakehouse, as the name indicates, is owned and operated by catholic monks. Due to this, there are several unusual features about the restaurant: - The hours that the bakehouse is open are limited and the restaurant is sometimes closed for days at a time. - The decor is exclusively religious and catholic in nature with crosses and virgin Mary's, so if you are offended by that, no need to eat there. On the other hand, the monks who work there will never try to talk religion with you or proselitize you in any way so don't avoid it just because of the religious affiliation. - The sign on the door requests no use of cell phones. This is supposed to be a time to sit and relax and talk and get away from the constant electronic chatter. Of course, you could choose to leave your cell phone or other devices on and ignore the sign, but considering there will be a large friar in full monk habit three yards away, looking at you, and everyone in the establishment will turn and stare at you in disapproval, I wouldn't recommend it, lol. - They only accept CASH. No credit cards! This is unusual and if, like many people nowadays, you only carry plastic, it can be a problem. The food can best be described as "hearty": Whenever I eat there, I think of someone being brought in out of the dark and cold and being given a steaming hot, hearty meal by the generous monks. Okay so this image may be somewhat romantic but I think it accurately describes the sentiment of the fare: There are no delicate herbs or unusal aromas here: The food is hot, it is good and it is plentiful.

The lobster roll was pure lobster meat on very tasty bread. Best whoopie pies I've had in a long time. Love that it is a "no cell phones" establishment. Catholic decor reminds me of the the Semana Santa bars in Seville, Spain on a non-alcoholic Bangor scale.

This noon they had three and only three choices on the menu, and that's about the norm. Chicken Corn Chowder was good, thin with broth rather than thick with cream, but tasty. The Thanksgiving Night Sandwich was also very good, nice fresh bread piled with deli Turkey slices, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce. We didn't try the Reuben, but there sure wasn't anything to eat here today if you are vegetarian. Muffins looked better than they tasted (sorry but those tiny Maine blueberries have very little flavor), and the whoopie pies were hand-made (not cake mix) but had a too-sweet filling (though i like it sweet). They also had some scones, and some cookies, and lots of loaves of bread. That's it. Pretty hard to screw up when you have only a few things on the menu. Any place that does a few things right deserves 3 solid stars, but not five. Sorry. Also, they have three tables. Each table sits 4 people comfortably but has chairs for six persons. Not exactly a nice spot to enjoy lunch, but good for takeout.

  • Scott N.

The absolute best place to eat in Maine! The menu changes daily and is very short; usually 2 soups and one sandwich. All of the items are awesome and the portions are huge! Everything is made and served by the friars; it makes me feel like I'm Robin Hood! The baked good are incredible; the bread, the woopie pies, the blueberry muffins, and the brownies. The atmosphere is great for meeting strangers because the tables are shared and the music is very soothing. Turn your cell phone off when you enter!

If you want to get your money's worth, this is the place to go. The sandwiches taste great. Not relying on gimmicky names or overly fancy fillers in their sandwiches, you get what you ask for - and a lot of it. No frills, good food. The line can get long at lunchtime, but the wait is worth it and you're not going to get friendlier service in town.

their whoopie pies are absolutely divine. i really cannot lavish enough praise on them, so you'll just have to check them out yourself. their soups and sandwiches are also freshly made and delicious. i always make an effort to pay them a visit when i am visiting my family. do keep in mind that sometimes they are closed for periods of time because the Friars are on leave.
