Their food is SOOOO good! I particularly liked the chana masala. FYI- Their hours change and are unreliable and I find that it is best to email them on Facebook before going to find out when they will be open. They answer emails on Facebook super quickly and their answer is reliable.

This is a terrific restaurant. The food is great. Truly a family affair. The wife does the cooking. The kids and brother and husband do everthing else. Only problem is that it is not open much. When it is it is worth going too. The nan is absolutely the best, not burned like some. The heat index is what you request. You can bring wine.

The Bangan Pakora is the best eggplant I have ever eaten. My wife ordered Palak Paneer, and the homemade cheese cubes were rich, moist, creamy and delicious. I ordered vegetable biryani which was perfectly seasoned. I have eaten biryani in at least 25 other restaurants from all over the country and not one of those other restaurants comes close. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that our meals were prepared separately from the meat dishes. We got to choose how spicy our food would be on a scale from 1 to 10 which allows for a perfect level of heat. I usually don't like tea, but if I could get a cup of the custom blended tea they serve every morning, I would never drink coffee again. The food is excellent, fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is unpretentious. The prices are reasonable with entrees between $10 to $20. They are not open every night, so check their Facebook page to see if they will be open.

Upsides: food was flavorful, made to order (they adjusted ingredients per our request), and perfectly spiced (1-10 spice level choice). Ambiance was casual & well-designed. Fine for families or couples - it's a small restaurant but layout offers different areas in which to sit. Downsides: slow, somewhat odd service. Server talked poorly about other folks eating in the restaurant while owner lingered in the dining room in a t-shirt & gym shorts on his phone. Pricing was on the expensive side for the presentation. Naan did not seem to be homemade. Overall, the food and ambiance was good, but the service was off-putting. I'd order out next time.

Some of the best food I've ever had in my entire life. I have tried so many dishes, and there has never been anything less than stellar. I love this restaurant, one of the best places in bangor. Try the Aloo pakora, chicken tikka, mango shake, and well....everything else too!

The best restaurant in Bangor! The restaurant is family owned and the service is excellent. The food is fresh and never frozen. They have a spice scale for their food but even at a lower level the food is still flavorful. This is an excellent place and I highly recommend it!

It was amazing, absolutely amazing. We ordered the Mixed Vegetables, Palak Paneer & Biryani (all of the vegetable persuasion), stunning food. The rice is to die for alone. Amazing tea, also! The service was also amazing, Jafar was talkative, friendly and welcoming.

I'm not surprised there aren't more reviews for this restaurant as it is one of the most difficult restaurants to get into. Not because it is so popular, but because often they just don't open for business. I think out of a month, I MIGHT see them open once. Unfortunately none of the times I've found them open worked so that I could try their food so I don't know how that might be. I've even had friends stop in when they were open, with people sitting at tables, around 6 or 7 in the evening and they were told they weren't serving... with other customers sitting there eating food. It may be great, maybe not - hard to tell, just don't make a special trip for it, 'cause they're not likely going to be open.

If you love spicy Indian-style food (and if you can find them open - try dinner on a weekend) go to Bahaar when you're in Bangor. Everything is fresh made, never from anything frozen or pre-made... You can tell this the second you take a bite of the lamb they serve, which tastes different, more tender and flavorful tho not too salty, than what many similar restaurants offer. No artificial flavors or colors are used; we suspiciously inquired about the lovely pink rice and the answer was 'only natural, dyed with saffron and dried carrot.' Highly recommended!!

We ordered the Mixed Vegetables, Lamb Biryani and Palak Paneer. The Mixed Vegetables served with Basmati rice was excellent. I can taste all the exquisitely blended spices, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly al dente. That dish deserved 5 stars! The Biryani was average at best; the few pieces of lamb were tough and not too flavorful. I was so looking forward to the Palak Paneer, my favorite dish, but I was sorely disappointed. The dish was salty beyond edible! Neither my husband nor I can eat more than a spoonful of it. We mentioned it to the server, but his response was that of disbelief and didn't offer to make another one for me. We were full at that point so we would not have accepted, but the gesture would have been nice. The service was so slow. While we were there a couple left before ordering because they were trying to get the the server's attention with no success. It took over 30 minutes from the time we ordered to the time our food arrived. Overall it was a disappointing experience.

I ordered take out from these guys and i got to say for starters the packing of the food in a shaws grocery bag was not the best of presentations. Anyway what matters is the food and wow i was disappointed. The qty provided for the price was a joke. My wife and i never throw away food because we find it wasteful but this was the first time we had to because it was inedible garbage. I ordered a dish with paneer cheese and the cheese it self was terrible. Its taste and texture hinted that it was a few days old and it was terribly salty. My wife ordered another vegetarian dish and it gave a sort of metalic taste that was terrible. I shudder to think what could give such a strong metalic taste. The vegetable biriyani we ordered had no unique flavors to it and would not even classify as a biriyani. I grew up in south asia and i can tell you this food is a terrible representation of food from that region if u want good authentic food from that region of the world there is another restaurant 1min away that actually makes very good south asian food or go down to waterville or south portland where you find a few good restaurants.

I think this is the most flavorful food Bangor has to offer. I would say Bahaar offers your typical Pakistani food, but this is the first Pakistani restaurant I have ever been too. Before you go here, please note that is this BYOB BYOB BYOB!!! They don't serve any alcohol unless you bring it! There might be a corking fee too. For those who need a date idea, I recommend walking through Bangor Wine and Cheese, pick a bottle of wine with your date, and stroll down the hill to Bahaar :) I forget the exact item I ordered but I know it involved rice and lamb. I think I forgot what it was because I ate it so quickly. This wasn't spicy like Mexican food or savory like steak, but reminded me of some Thai food which is layered with spices and herbs. Once you are in the door, everything is a 5 Star restaurant, but getting in the door is the problem. They have the times they are open on the door, but they rarely stick to them. If you put a schedule on the window, stick to it or take it off the wall!!! Minus 1 Star.
