Dear Bagel Mainea, How I wish you could figure out a way to deliver your delicious bagel sandwiches to me in Boston. I dream about them during the long, cold winter nights. Hell, I dream about them in the middle of summer. If orgasms came in bagel sandwich form, this would be their home. I'll never forget my first taste of the Bagel Mainea goodness...it was filled with turkey, avocado, and a garlic mayo that was so good it brought a tear to my eye. I'm convinced I can smell the garlic mayo when I'm standing on my parent's deck in the next town. Or maybe I just wish I could. I am certain, however, that Bagel Mainea's sandwiches have healing powers. Case in point - several months ago I was visiting my parents, and had a nasty cold. Nothing was helping me get better. Then one afternoon I made a stop at Bagel Mainea, picked up my favorite item on the menu...and woke up the next day feeling 100 percent better. Coincidence? I think not. One of these days I'm going to walk in there and order two bagel sandwiches. Because let's face it...the minute I finish one, I'm always secretly craving more.

This was a quant little place that did all of their own baking and was definitely a locals hangout, not a chain by any means, which made it better than the others. I ordered a cinnamon/raisin bagel with "light" cream cheese. When I opened the wrapper it was "light" veggie, but I wanted very little of it and it was filled everywhere with enought cream cheese for 3 bagels. If I come back here, next time I will tell to give it to me on the side and I will put on my own.

I think it might have been a slight mistake for us to come at 12:30 on a Saturday. They were completely out of fresh bagels!! That's okay, apparently they have day-old bagels in the back which you can ask for if they're out of fresh ones. I meant to ask if they give the day-old bagels to a food pantry or something, but I forgot - oh well. My man ended up getting a breakfast sandwich on a day-old everything bagel, and I got a monstrous turkey sandwich on sourdough, which was delicious, but a little heavy on the mayo for my taste. We'll probably be back again on our travels! **A side note (not having anything to do with the quality of the place...): If you're there and see the Buffalo Blue potato chips on the rack, my suggestion is not to give in to temptation. They tasted like plain old salt & vinegar chips, and I regretted that choice.

Amazing bagel sandwiches, with so many choices! Great place to stop for breakfast in Augusta, ME. The jalapeno was particularly tasty with just a little kick. Great with egg and bacon!

Great place, marvelous food, good people. All of the bagels here are far better than anything else you'll find in the area. The Anadama bagels are my favorite by far. If you've never tried one, do yourself a favor - go for it!

I loved this place; it was exactly what I needed for breakfast after days of driving in the Maritimes. Sunny, with roomy wooden booths. The bagels were top-notch NYC-style and fresh; the staff were friendly and patient (we had a 2-yr-old with us, who appreciated the coloring books and crayons they supplied). The answer I got to my question about the anadama bagel was enthusiastic and interesting, even though I'm sure I was far from the first to ask. Didn't try the sandwiches, but they looked fantastic.

I am from away, Jersey/NYC, and been here 22 years. Knowing a good NYC bagel this one absolutely ranks amongst the best in the USA! By far the best in Maine. There are amazing bakeries in the state but none come close to this authentic bagel. Place is a bit seedy but live jazz at brunch. Some al fresco seats on busy western ave. Deli is usual boars head but soups are great.

You'll be hard pressed to find good, non-chain lunch spots in Augusta, but Bagel Mainea hits the spot. I had a hummus bagel sandwich that really delivered on the veggies. If I ever have the pleasure of visiting Augusta again, I would surely come back to Bagel Mainea.

This is a nice break from the plethora of fast-food in Augusta. There are a lot of very overwhelming descriptions for bread sandwiches, wraps, or bagel sandwiches. They also have panini's. The wait is pretty long and they always seem busy, but the ingredients are fresh (they have their own deli counter) and there is outdoor seating. I will definitely come back here for lunch since I am now convinced I have to try every sandwich combination on the chalk board... I'll keep you posted as I make progress.

I'd be there every day, if not for the long waits for food. But while you wait for your sandwich, you can play the Process Consultant MiniGame(tm)! Observe the kitchen workers assembling sandwiches on a way-too-small table, tripping over each other as they walk back-and-forth to the grill. Then, determine the best way to rearrange the kitchen that will improve serving time by at least 25%! (Protip: move the bagel baskets against the west wall). As you can tell, the waits are LONG, and provide lots of time to... think. Multiple times I've noticed people who walk in the door, see the amount of people waiting, and immediately turn around and walk out.

Good food but they can be rather slow at times, they need a more efficient way of making there bagels and sandwiches

On my way through to the common ground fair, looking for a breakfast that wasn't from a chain, I found this gem. Bagels are vegan-friendly, and there are lots of vegetarian choices. I had egg and cream cheese on a veggie/garlic bagel. The bagel was chewy and fresh, my egg was a perfect medium with a broken yolk. Hard to make a pick for breakfast, they had so much stuff to choose from. When I'm in that neck of the woods again, I'm definitely making a stop.

Homemade bagels and coffee are just the ticket. Way affordable. Once had a string of 4 consecutive trips with hair in the cream cheese. Stayed loyal and it eventually stopped. Free WiFi
